AFL-CIO plans economy mailer on McCain's 'strong' remark

The AFL-CIO will send a two page mailer out Monday.
The AFL-CIO will send a two page mailer out Monday.

(CNN)—In the face of growing economic concerns, the AFL-CIO will being sending out a new mailer Monday taking direct aim at Sen. John McCain’s recent comment that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy are “strong.”

“John McCain says the economy is fundamentally strong,” the mailer reads. “John McCain is fundamentally wrong.”

McCain made the comments at a campaign event in Florida hours after Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy last Monday.

"You know, there's been tremendous turmoil in our financial markets and Wall Street," McCain said in Jacksonville. “Our economy, I think, still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but these are very, very difficult times."

The Obama campaign has used the comment to attack the Republican nominee, calling him “disturbingly out of touch.”

The mailer, which the AFL-CIO calls their “broadest yet,” is set to reach more than one million union households in the swing states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The mailer will coincide with an e-mail reaching 500,000 people, phone calls and door to door visits from volunteers.

McCain has always been WRONG and out of touch with America!!! He should have gone to jail with Charlie Keating in the Keating 5 and now as head of the Commerce Commission he should go to jail or be fired for this mess because he deregulated every rule that was put in after the crash of 1929 so this could NOT happen again. BUT noooo he and his cronnies got rich and richer. WE need jobs, jobs and more jobs!!! We need projects to rebuild the American infrustructure to get Americans back on their feet and this would be the best money spent by government!! AND get rid of old, old seniel McCain!!!! The man wears $600 shoes and is trying to tell us who can not even aford food anymore "the economy is strong". McCain, get out of America and go to Dubi with your friends!!!

John McCain has stated over and over how little he knows about the economy. What about his Trillion dollar war we frankly can't afford. He is out of touch. Palin is a trained puppy. She is surrounded by the Bush gang. They tell her what to say and how to act. We don't need puppets. We need REAL CHANGE>
A vote for McCain is a vote for Bush/ Bush policies. A Vote for Obama is a vote for our future.

If the economy is so strong, maybe McCain would like to donate the next quarter trillion dollars to Wall Street.

Obama's thought out plan during this economic crisis:
Obama said his economic team would not present a detailed economic plan at this time, "given the gravity of this situation, and based on conversations I have had with both Secretary Paulson and Chairman Bernanke."
He would not present his plan until the Treasury and Federal Reserve have presented theirs.

McCain's thought out plan during this economic crisis:
    Fire SEC Chairman Christopher Cox.

Some of you just stop the madness. He has been saying this since throughout the campaign. It is only now that he is trying to flip what he realling means. The dud is a loser.

John McCain is correct, the American worker is one of the fundamentals of the American econony and it is strong. The only exception is mostly oshama supporters who expect handouts not handups.

"'John McCain says the economy is fundamentally strong,' the mailer reads." Too bad that's not what he actually said.

"…the economy is fundamentally strong…" does not mean the same thing as "…the fundamentals of our economy are strong…"

Though I suppose basic reading comprehension and proper English skills aren't exactly in abundance among the AFL-CIO.

The funniest part is that people like AFL-CIO members are exactly the "fundamentals" McCain was speaking about. I guess blind partisanship means you'd rather inaccurately attack the candidate you don't like instead of accepting due praise. Good job, AFL-CIO.

And you, Marc, are one of those people that we laugh at that is willing to buy that Bridge to Nowhere. All 16 times, Johnny Mac was talking about the fundamentals being sound - he meant the American worker....yeah OK pal. Your tinfoil hat is too tight, "my friend"

    Human beings are not "fundamentals".

No Child Left Behind in full effect!

Try learning how to read before downing someone sane for exposing the trash spewed out of a Repugs sewer trap.

And even if they were...they are anything but strong.
    Unemployment: 6.1% and climbing
    2 million house foreclosures.
    $4 dollar gas
    retirement benefits worth nothing.

Even with his stupid quasi-logic and lie laden linguisitcs, this is all wrong and its all from Bush-McCain. And he has the nerve to blame Obama for his 26 year record of voting to de-regulate...

    Wait a minute...
