McCain and Obama are nearly tied in two key battleground states.

(CNN) – New CNN poll of polls out of Indiana and Ohio Friday show both Midwestern states appear up for grabs with less than seven weeks to go before Election Day.

According to averages of several recent surveys from both states, Obama holds a slim 1 point lead in Ohio (46-45 percent) and McCain holds a small 2 point lead in Indiana (47-45 percent).

Check out CNN's Electoral map

Both states may be critical for John McCain - no Republican has captured the White House without winning Ohio, and Indiana hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in more than 30 years.

Related: Obama wants to to turn Indiana blue

The Ohio poll of polls consists of three surveys: Big Ten Battleground (September 14-17), CNN/Time/ORC (September 14-16), and Marist (September 11-15). The Indiana general election poll of polls also consists of three surveys: Big Ten Battleground (September 14-17), CNN/Time/ORC (September 14-16), and Indianapolis Star/WTHR (September 14-16).

Neither have a sampling error.

I'm voting Democrat because English has no place being the official language in America.
I'm voting Democrat because I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America.
I'm voting Democrat because I think the government will do a better job of spending my money than I could.
I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they'll think we're a good and decent country.

And we thank you for your vote.

My fellow Americans in Ohio and Indiana, forget Red and Blue. If you don't want to see your Green completely evaporate, PLEASE pay attention.
Trickle down economics does not work. It never has and it never will. Take a look at Wall Street. You loss your life savings and they go home to their Mansions. The oil companies made over 123 billion dollars PROFIT last year. What did they trickle down? High Gas prices, High food prices and last but not least, NOT ONE JOB for the Americans who they are robbing legally without a gun.

Pay attention People McCain/Palin is not the ticket to vote for.

Were so Sick of Obama we could Puke!! The democrats our the reason for this dying country. Don't be fooled by these sweet talking democrats they been in control of the white house for two years now and did nothing! Pplls are false and misleading and Obama has told some big lies before. We don't care what the dem. say anymore were sick of them and were voting for McCain!

April Garlow   September 19th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

Obama has a record of doing nothing to help anyone. The only legislation he bothered to vote for was the Cheney/Bush energy plan, . His record would be a joke–but it's not funny,–it's scary, he did not even vote on the last stimulous package. His education is no substitute for intelligence and the ability to actually make a wise decision.McCain is willing to make his views known with his votes even if they draw criticism, Obama freezes and does nothing.Democrats wake up to this fraud–Hillary supporter still voting for McCain.

Woman in Ohio   September 19th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

I WILL vote for Obama defenitely because I am tired of McCain's lie after lie. I kind of liked him before but I am turned off completely.

Bill in Ct.   September 19th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

My personal opinion is that this election is not close, I truly think it a blow out for Obama, just look at all the people who have register all across the country for Obama. The only way Mcsame/Palin is going to win this that is that the republicans are going to have to CHEAT like they did in 2000 and 2004 by rigging election machines, denying people to vote in some areas, just look what their trying to do in Mich. now, telling people that are in foreclosure in some counties that they can't vote b/c their house is in foreclosure.

Shilo Pitt   September 19th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

Mrs. Palin you are so beautiful, and intelligent. Thank you for stepping up to the plate and offering to take out the political corruption in D.C.

Mrs. Clinton whether you agree with Mrs. Palin or not, maybe it's time to take Sarah's hand and work together. You two would be unstoppable.

Thank you Mr. Clinton for your words today about Sarah Palin. We knew the Clintons saw what most of Americans saw when we first learned about Sarah. She is the breath of fresh politics this country has needed. Please work together with her and share your visions, because through her she will make them happen.

Staying home on Election day September 19th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Food for thought:
Obama is a lawyer. Most of his friends and his wife are lawyers. How many lawyers do you know that are honest?

Obama says he will raise taxes only on the rich? As a lawyer, he knows that most rich people have lots of lawyers working for them. Lawyers know how to find and use those magical little loopholes out their to get around paying taxes!

Don't trust Lawyers!!!!!!
------

I'm glad you will be staying home on election day; you've clearly shown you have no grasp of reality.

BTW, I am a lawyer, and I have no idea how to avoid paying taxes.

A Khan   September 19th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

I can't believe this. In this economic disaster situation, american people can't make mistake any more. Then it will be different than reality.

HOW COME THESE POLLSTERS NEVER CALL ME?! OR ANYONE ELSE THAT I KNOW?? Nobody around here is voting for McCain, trust me on that one. The press is trying desperately to keep this race close, when in fact it is not. The country is not going to allow another criminal Republican into the White House for the THIRD time in a row. I just saw Sanchez show yet another poll on his show. This one was by gender. How many men supported Obama vs how many supported McCain, etc. I have seen polls by just about everything, including Hispanic voter tendencies (BTW, I am a Cuban born American citizen). But why will you not show a poll by race? Is everyone afraid to show how blacks are voting? Could it be that they are voting along racial lines?

Hopfully Indiana will see the light but I doubt it . They are mostly blue(red) collar & rural, which tend to be conservative and tend not to be progressive enouch to vote for change... they have proven that for 30 yrs! They went for Bush second term over welmingly and you see how that turned out ...They believe the swift boat lies , but to be fair so did many others. I am proud to say I did not! But the state I live in is very red too! So I know the mind set. They will not change because their daddy voted this way!
Ohio is where the Democrats need to double up efforts to move Obama up in the polls , more progressive and willing to listen and I believe they will realize we need change in this country ......

So OHIO it is on your shoulders so DO NOT LET US DOWN!

Do you think John McLiar put those people up to that with a payout, since VP Spermbank had her rally protested yesterday?

Glenn; Bakersville, NC.   September 19th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

The debates will have a major impact on the polls, and I personally cna't wait. I got my tally sheet ready to track how many times McCain says "POW", "Hanoi Hilton", or "Tortured" when he is asked about the economy, parallels in his policies and Bush's, or Palin's lack of qualifications or ability to pick up the mantle if he croaks. This is going to be big fun.

Here we go again....Eight years ago we said don't vote for Bush…the writing is on the wall and they did. So whoever the president may be, i want everyone who voted for bush to LOSE their savings, retirement, pension, homes, and jobs if need be. No Government bail out with my tax dollars for banks.NO NO NO, these people need to vote issues in the elections or they can go down like everybody else. No to the 1 trillion for saving banks. NO NO NO.

Liz   September 19th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Remember in the last election, John Kerry was ahead of Bush and just before the elections Bush went ahead in the polls. The same thing is going to happen again this year and I suppose we will have alot of Obama supporters starting to take anti-depressants on November 5. Maybe Obama and Michelle will also be so traumatized that we won't see them for a few months. Maybe in January we will see them appear again out of hibernation.

When you don't do things in a fair manner they always come back to haunt you and I can Obama and the DNC will be taught a lesson when McCain and Palin are elected in November as president and VP. Cheating may work for some time but it always catches up with you.

It's funny how John McCain and the GOP spin everything to there advantage. Now Obama is the reason the economy is in termoil. Each week John McCain and the GOP change their toon. One week they harp on experiance, the next week they say change and try to take Obama"s slogan for the change by picking and unknown figure to run as VP with John McCain. Come on now, that nothing but the Repulican Okeedok. Gov. Sarah Palin for one is not in the same legue as Obama for one thing. Since the GOP wants to compair the two, let indulge them. Sara Palin got her BA from an institution of higher learning only after failing out of four different schools and taking seven years in the process. Obama is a Harvard graduate. The first goround and recieved his degree. Never mind that Obama is running for president not vice president . So there you are.

A.M. Deist   September 19th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

It seems clear to me that the choice this election is for a Republican who is proactive on war and reactive on the economy versus a Democrat who is reactive on war and proactive on the economy.

Yes its close in a number of midwestern states. John McCain says help the auto industry (and presumably other manufacturing industries) with tax breaks and such. But workers throughout the midwest have already seen 3 decades of job loss, wage and benefit cuts and tax subsidies to those industries that invested in Mexico and the third world while letting US factories rot. What makes anyone think that McCains tax cuts to auto will be used to invest in job creating investments on US soil?

Its funny how CNN announces that wall street skewered McCain. I read the article and it is true, indeed it did and possibly rightly so for what he said. I missed the tv broadcast. But what I noticed that was not mentioned by CNN for their own reasons be it they are busy or whatnot I am not pointing blame, was that the Wall Street Studies have shown that Obama's campaign has become more negative than the McCain campaign. Protesters getting violent and the suspicious hacking of palins email. Anyone think I am lying? Go read it for yourself.

MBFLA   September 19th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Do you know someone who has lost his or her job? Do you know someone who has lost his or her home? Do you enjoy paying a fortune for gas and food? Then vote for McCain/Palin for more of the same.

Surprised its not near 90% Obama. There must be a lot of billionaires in Indiana and Ohio.

Mary Steins   September 19th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Notice something....

McCain spent his day placing blame and attacking his opponent, but offered no resolutions to the problems.

Obama came out after sitting down with his team of Economists and proposed four things we must do to turn this country around and had a news conference. Something John McCain has refused to do for 46 days running.

In my mind there is no other choice, but Obama/Biden to provide real Leadership and Accountability in this country.

CM   September 19th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

The Dems have picked up states since 04 and are making a few more competitive. Obama can win this many different ways now and he only needs one. McCain is a lot more limited in what he can do.

Of course there will be GOP supporters who will post some unrelated attack or McCain will win stupidness just to convince themselves. Let them let it all out.

This election will be decided by the older white folks: so called conservatives who always faithfully vote republican irrespective of their positions. Looking at the 2 candidates: on issues after issues it appears that the election is Obama's to win. No doubt Palin has rallied the same republican base to vote for Mccain. The big question is WHY? Obama's Race? Clinton factor?
I have talked to some of this diehard republican supporters, they have no good reason to support Obama except that he chose Palin to 'Shake up washington'.

People in these states should really wake up. Can't they see that McCain doesn't even know what the word "original" means. He will do the same thing that this current administration is doing because that's all he knows. He is only speaking about change, regulation, and the economy because this is what Obama is speaking about. We don't need him or want him. Just like late-deciders went for Hillary Clinton during the primary, the late-deciders will go for John McCain. No matter what the media tries to show, in these midwestern blue collar states, they will not give Obama the win. He is too high and mighty. He called them 'bitter' and Rev. Wright has not been forgotten.

The media calls this racism, I call it not trusting Obama because he had never worked with his 'hands' and he does not have experience.

Although the economy is going to hell in a hand basket and the federal government is bailing out wall street, it is still a crisis and we do not know enough about Obama and his ability to handle a crisis. He votes 'present' or he takes a ' I need to know more' before he takes a position on anything. Other than that, all he has done is go negative; and this from the man who is all about hope. Please!

He is not right for America, things are too serious to give the reins of the country over to a novice.

This is not good news for McCain. Actually its terrible news. All he had going for him was the Palin Bounce, and without that he's done. He can't win the election without Indiana or Ohio. He has to have both just to have a chance to win.

If I were Obama, I would campaign heavily in those two or three swings states and let McCain play defense. That would force McCain out of Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Hell, McCain seems to have a fight on his hands in Florida, as well.

These results show, with a lights out debate, that we have all the makings for a late and significant break towards Obama

No way, no how, no McCain!   September 19th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

The lead is probably much larger due to the polling methods. Obama will win it with a larger margin.

Jerome (Toronto)   September 19th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

hmmm, 80% of the world would vote for Obama/Biden ticket. I mean there is no comparison here on which ticket has more substance and better qualifications to lead the USA back from 8 years of misery. On the world stage the U.S. reputation has fallen so drastically, to me it just very sad.

It makes me especially in Ohio who in the world would vote Republican. There is only one answer to your solution – Vote Obama

DO YOURSELF AND THE REST OF AMERICA A FAVOUR AND VOTE WITH YOUR HEADS NOT YOUR LOYALITY

Texas Annie   September 19th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

And both states are on the election commission's list of states who haven't resolved their voting error potential from the LAST election... which means they're wide open to manipulation by those who are the masters of manipulation.
God forbid this election is tainted like the last TWO presidential elections.
Never thought I'd be saying this, as I was such a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter, but PLEASE, people get out & vote for Obama/Biden if you care a whit about this country, our economy, and our personal well-being.

James   September 19th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I can't help but wonder, how is it that some people, myself included, see the choice as being obvious. Obama is far and above a better choice than Mccain. IT's so clear, that it's like those who don't see it aren't looking at the same thing.

They have to be ignoring some facts or just listening to Rush Limbaugh and his ilk.

I'm sure they say the same though...just wondering..

Don   September 19th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

The longer this campaign remains about the economy and not "bright shiny objects", the more the Republican party is going to wake up November 5 and find themselves in charge of what is technically known as squat.

Obama '08

John   September 19th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

barack and Biden are the best choice for leaders that will work with both sides to fix what the GOP has messed up in the last 8 years, I don't think we have ever faced a president coming in having to fix so much but Obama and Biden are the only ones who are up to the task. McCain and Palin can't even get things right now, we can afford having them be in office, it would take a century to recover from four more years of republican policies. Obama,Biden to great men with a plan to fix the problems we now face. Thanks Dubya for messing up our country so badly. I can truely say no one could ever match you in doing the worst job imagineable.

Tough sledding for McCain. Does he have the money and energy to fight in 10 battlegrounds? Obama is wearing his resources thin.

Glenn Doty, Columbia, SC   September 19th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Notice that ALL of the close states that are "up for grabs" are states that voted for Bush...
The states that voted for Kerry seem much more comfortable holds for Obama.

The only "Kerry" states that are even arguably "up for grabs" are Minnesota and Wisconsin.... I imagine that new polls, after this last week of focus on issues over MILFs should help those two states come home.

McCain is playing pure defense. Obama is CERTAIN to take Iowa and New Mexico... So one single other of the 8 close states loses the election for McCain.

Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada, Indiana, and North Carolina...

Any of these states will win the election for Obama... McCain has to win ALL of them to hold, and his constant flubbing and flip-flopping on every economic speech and question cannot help his chances.

:)

Aaron from Ohio   September 19th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Indiana is in play? Indiana is reliably republican, at least until now, and Obama has a lead in Ohio. No republican has ever won the White House without Ohio. Mccain can't win without Ohio, Indiana and Florida. If any of those states go into the blue column it is over for Senator McCain. Obama can possibly win without any of those three. McCain does have something else to worry about though. I have been listening to Governor Palin refer to the ticket as the "Palin and McCain" ticket and has been referring to McCain as "my running mate". She starting to read the press and believe that she is more popular than the man who is actually the presidential nominee. Watch your back John, Sarah has plans and you aren't in them.

Tony, LA   September 19th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Once the debates are held, I expect the support to shift heavily for Obama in some traditionally Red states, i.e. Virginia, Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Colorado...just to name a few....

The media is trying to down play the importance of the youth in this election in US history. The media is doing every in order to dicourage them from voting , this poll of polls stuff everynow and then. It will be fair for the media to let the general public to know the poll of polls doesn't take the youth voting block into account, since pollesters are using landlines phones to conduct the sampling.

Hopefully ALL voters are paying attention to who is behaving in a way befitting a president. Tell me about yourself – DON'T just sling mud and lies. So far, I think Obama has given me more specifics about what he would do, and I like what I hear from him. McCain is too busy trying to dance around the issues. I'd really like to know why Gov Palin and co feel they are above the law. I thought she wanted to be held accountable. Seems to me, where there is smoke there is fire...

Please join me in protesting the refusal of Todd Palin and Palin cronies to respect their subpoena to testify.

The average citizen would be subjected to the threat of a finding of contempt and a possible jail sentence if they disobeyed a subpoena. Why do these individuals believe they are "above the law", and/or subjected to a different set of laws than the rest of us.

Isn't it time we reinstated an equal application of the law to all US citizens. Isn't it time that we sent a message that disobeyed the law does in fact result in consequences.

The simple fact that McCain is within 20 points of Obama just goes to prove that 99.9% of Americans are ignorant, apathetic, unaware and irresponsible.

America is quickly becoming just another third-world country. Women whine and moan about being taken seriously, yet time and time again, they prove most shouldn't be.

Most women, especially white women who vote republican, are ONE ISSUE VOTERS, completely oblivious to the real issues, etc.

No wonder it is a man's world, for all the whining women do, they are constantly taking giant leaps backward.

Every day the lying, contradicting, McCain double-talk express says something completely wrong or out of touch and there are still 50% of certain states that are saying they will vote for him????????

IT is mind blowing. I can't even believe it's true that there are that many oblivious people.

David, Silver Spring, MD   September 19th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Rural Republicans are beginning to realize the Republicans have sold them a bunch of malarkey. Their "do-nothing" approach to government is what drove this country into the Great Depression, and it's what's driving us back there right now.

mango123   September 19th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

The worm is starting to turn. Seems that Obama was behind or further behind in these states last week. Now he is ahead in one and closer in the other. I think this mirrors, to a degree, what is happening on the larger scale. The Palin flash in the pan is fading and the stars are realigning back to what they were and frankly for me, where they should be. I expect Obama to be even further ahead after the debates.

Sherri   September 19th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

I'm from Canada and I'm shocked it's even this close...the McPalin ticket is clearly out of touch with the average american...flip flopping on many issues (economic crisis, change movement, experience), lying (Troopergate, Bridge to nowhere), and denying to uphold the legal system (Palin refusing to participate in the Troopergate investigation)....it's very, very sad...and as your neighbour to your North, I'm very, very scared.....please don't vote based on party, sex or race...remember, your countries future is dependent on this very important decision....

marianne kehoe   September 19th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

On an Obama bio it was stated that in Illinois, a "present" vote actually means "nay,w/reservations(or similar). Why do the Dems allow the GOP to keep saying otherwise.

Allen Friedman   September 19th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

With the Obama team adding hundreds of thousands of new voters, it is possible that the polls do not take this into consideration. If most of the new voters vote we will have president Obama.

McCain has consistently been against farmers. The midwest is waking up and with the ECONOMY BEING STUPID, nobody is going to support a third Bush term. We are not whinning, but feeling the pain eveyday. It is time for the republican to own thier failure. There is no make up term for the republicans: you rip what you sow. After McCain has claim being a deregulator at birth, he is blaming Obma for the financial crisis: AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE NOT STUPID and we will make sure not to reward his failure by granting him the White House. When you fail economically, you pay for the consequences. We have to change Washington and McCain is Washington itself.

Americans are smart. They realize what is at stake: The economy people's livelihoods, and dignity.... So, as the "lipstick" hot air and lies fade away, real issues become more eminent.

The big "race" elephant still hangs around some areas, but voting on racial basis will not put food on american tables. Neither will it restore the value of our retirement funds. If we stick with the issues, the results of this election will be a victory for all americans.

linda from South Dakota   September 19th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

yes we can,,,,, people in those states need to know that mccain ,, even tho he talks big,, is only out for himself,, hes copied many of obama's comments,, otherwise he wouldnt have anything to go on,, hes a loser,, yes we can and we will, obama/biden.08 and beyond,,,,, ( vote for mccain and have 4 more years of the same,,)

Barney   September 19th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

The polls will be different next week

CNN trying to run headlines to keeps it's ratings up.

Too bad we the people are jerked around so much.

Chrissy, Texas   September 19th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Hummm.....I wonder why? In a time when everything seems to be going wrong in this country, oh I know. Because Obama is all talk! He has no substance behind his rehtoric. Obama is nothing but a liar, hypocrite and egomaniac. He loves to dish it out but he can't handle the fire. Everyone is wrong except him. He's done so much for this and that, but the problem is he's lying. The best one is that he sat in church for 20yrs and did not know that his pastor (mentor-uncle) was a racist! Give me a break. McCain/Palin 08'

I am a die hard hoosier, red neck, yes.... .live in Martinsville Indiana ... yes and we are all voting change. All my friends, including most of my relatives except my parents ... of course, will be voting for change! We can't wait for November 4th to remove the lying republicans from power.

Impossible if the underlying polls on which it's based contain possible sampling errors.

Arrest all the repubs that aren/t complying with subpeonas!!!!!!!!!!!

McCrazy   September 19th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

SO did everyone catch the Hannity interview with Sarah Palin? Did she honestly say it was unfair for Obama to go after McCain's comments about economy fundamentals being strong because how he said it wasnt how he meant it after he said it?

She is covering up not knowing anything with bad explanations to really easy questions.

Just like with Obama, she is evening out now that the media honeymoon is over and she actually has to talk about issues.

xenia culiner   September 19th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Have been waiting for brilliant man to capture the presidency in our United States. This new face of hope and equality makes me be proud to be American. I know, we the people know the lies the Republicans have been capable to deliver against good candidates with character and honesty in their souls. If the Republicans are so great, why did our wonderful country under their leadership for 8 years has not delivered the promises made then. How can we trust in them now. Keep the
religeous rights out of this election. They have done enough to have it their way with Bush. Ruined the whole worlds economy. Millions dead, because of them. DEMOCRATS JOIN NOW TO OUST THE SCUM FROM THE WHITE HOUSE.

Isabel   September 19th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

CNN (and it's so-called polls) reports what they want you to think. At this point, CNN should just post a big banner behind the news anchor that says "Vote for Obama". They are about that subtle. Whatever happened to objectivity?

Obama widening his lead   September 19th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Meanwhile, Obama continues to pull ahead of McCain in a national trend

Obama Ahead by 1 Tuesday
Ahead by 2 on Wednesday
Ahead by 4 on Thursday
Now ahead by 5 today and pushing 50% (a magic number for Obama)

The tide has turned. If he is at 50% or above on Monday, its all but over for Mr MaGoo and the drama queen.

Obama/Biden 08'

frodo   September 19th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Why isn't CNN reporting that McCain and Obama are being put illegally on the TX ballot by the TX Sec'y of State?

They both missed the legal deadline to be put on the ballots, but are being included.

When third party candidates miss a deadline, there is no way they'll get on a ballot.

Heck, its hard enough to get on the ballot with tens of thousands of signatures, meeting the deadline and dotting the i's and crossing the t's for third parties.

K.NIX   September 19th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Food for thought:
Obama is a lawyer. Most of his friends and his wife are lawyers. How many lawyers do you know that are honest?

Obama says he will raise taxes only on the rich? As a lawyer, he knows that most rich people have lots of lawyers working for them. Lawyers know how to find and use those magical little loopholes out their to get around paying taxes!

Don't trust Lawyers!!!!!!

Two names Barack Obama does not want to hear...

Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac

Wait til the market rebounds and the public learns the truth by the time the first Presidential Debate goes down.

And the 'Children of the Corn' have the nerve to call John McCain dishonorable.

The American People do not like being betrayed.

Bye-Bye Obama.

Jude   September 19th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

BO needs this to be around 48 percent to have a chance of winning either state....The reason is the "race" factor. We know that America despites its forth coming towards racial equality, there are still 20-30% of those who will vote against BO because of his skin color. So we need to get this up to at least 48%. The only other option is to get many new young voters since these people are not part of the survey. If we can get 5% of new young voters....its over. If we get 2% then its a real tight race. Either way...lots of more work needs to be done.

Terry, Dallas Texas   September 19th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Indiana is that close? Oh the McCain camp really should be worried!
That place has been GOP for so long I doubt you can buy a can of blue paint at the hardware store! If Indiana goes blue this thing is OVER!

Pat F   September 19th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

It's not even close to close.

Look up the Bradley Effect or the Wilder Effect. McCain is going to win in a landslide. People lie to pollsters when the candidate is African American.

And yes, Obamatons, they DO poll cell phones. You should let go of that little security blanket.

J from DC   September 19th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

How is it that Fox news is able to report that McCain leading Obama by 14 on the electoral map? Why is no one challenging them on this? Or at least reveal how their numbers are not creditable.

Chris S.   September 19th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

If Mccain looses Ohio before Nov. 4. This race is over. As our leader said "On November 4th. ON NOV. 4 We must stand up together and say eight years is enough!!!"-Barack Obama.

Debby   September 19th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

So close and yet so far. LOL I think the debates will tell us who our next Pres. will be.

Shari, NY   September 19th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

I don't trust polls but if the Repubs usually have Ohio in their back pocket and at this time there is a slim lead by Obama, McCain's in trouble.

Irma in North Carolina   September 19th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Come on Obama lets get these two thugs, we dont need people like them in the white house. I just hope the american people wake up in time. They are so all fired up about Sarah, hoping John kicks the bucket so she can get in there. Lets not forget Johns mother is 96, so John could be around for a spell yet and then what are you Sarah lovers going to do when you got us four more years of Bush.

Dan, Mpls   September 19th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Poll shows that there are plenty of idiots out there. Someone who has been in the Senate for more than 20 years running under the platform of change? We had the crisis int he 70's. Why has nothing been done?

IDIOTS!!!

chrissy   September 19th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I find it uncomprehensible and borderline dangerous that Obama and the DNC are politicizing this financial crisis to point fingers and play the blame game to boost their interest in the election. How about putting country first and the people first for once in a crisis of this magnitude. This is the very reason why I'm supporting Mccain. Partisanship is at the very core of this non-productive and non-moving government we have today.

I think the polls will be very inaccurate in this election.
Most of Obama's largest support group does not use or own land line based telephones and do not appear on registration data at all in most cases (other than new voter registration).
In most states Obama is probably carrying 5 to 10 percentage points higher than the polls show.

J from DC   September 19th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

I just heard Biden speak in VA. His message was powerful. He just ripped the socks off John McCain. He said some things to women that I have not even heard spoken by Hillary Clinton. Obama is always presidential in his speeches, but women need to hear Biden. He just went hard on McCain and Palin.
McCain claims he would fire Christopher Cox, the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Committee. Yet, McCain won’t even fire his economic advisor Phil Gramm. The real man who created policies which contributed greatly to this recent Economic Meltdown. Unbelievable! Maverick or Mouse, or pathological liar?

shawn - ga   September 19th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Until the debates and McCain will outshine Obama. Even Obama knows this that is why he hid away from all debates save the 3

If the polls stay this close at election day obama will have a big lost.

Foreclosures and voting.   September 19th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

The Republican party is trying to keep people who have lost their homes from foreclosure from voting.

McCain's new ad is racist, and he made a Bush-like statement today: "Obama first or USA first."

He has taken a low sleazy road so many times now, I just can't believe anything he or Palin is saying.

Most of all, how can you say USA first when you are trying to block millions of Americans voters? This is unpatriotic and a McCain is a fraud.

Melissa - Wisconsin   September 19th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

On page 373 of John McCain's 2002 memoir Worth the Fighting For, you'll find the following quote:

"I didn't decide to run for President to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be President because it had become my ambition to be President. I was sixty-two years old when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize."

^ a b McCain, John; Salter, Mark (2002). Worth the Fighting For. New York: Random House. ISBN 0-375-50542-3. p. 373.

Please please please don't vote for a man who only wants to win "the prize" of the presidency.

We can only hope that the voters in these 2 crucial states are getting past all of the distractions, diversions, and outright lies and are now getting down to looking at where the candidates really stand on the issues. Once they do, it's GAME OVER.

Just say NO to Bush 44.

GO Obama/Biden!!!

Silence Dogood   September 19th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Obama is riding a temporary surge fueled by his negative deceptive ads and false claims of actual experience. As usual he gets a lot out of the emotional impact of attack instead of ideas.

How can anyone take a candidate seriously who gets big money from Wall Street (factcheck.org). I am talking about McBama – they are looking more the same than different.

Vote Green Party for a change to the corporate politics. You have been lied to by McBama.

As soon as people get wind of the "shadow governor" and start asking whether they want a non-elected spouse determining policy, these polls will start to swing. Where are the children? Whenever anyone questioned Palin's ability to mother and govern, Todd was the answer-she has a supportive spouse. But he doesn't seem to be caring for the children when he's two steps behind her at all times. Where is the baby?

Ohio and Indiana is going blue.

We have lost enough jobs due to the Republicans giving tax breaks to companies who outsource the American jobs. It is as simple as that.

Once all the University students and blue collar workers have they say it will be over for McCain and Palin.

By the way since when is Todd Palin above the law. He is running like Sarah is the president and he will be the vice-president. Give us a break, we are not stupid.
