Obama-Biden surrogate mocks Palin

A supporter of Obama-Biden got tough on Palin Thursday.
A supporter of Obama-Biden got tough on Palin Thursday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (CNN) – An Ohio mayor who introduced Joe Biden at a rally Thursday night said Sarah Palin’s hometown of Wasilla, Alaska was “not the real world.”

“One of the things that bothers me is the fact that Governor Palin talks about she's ready to be the Vice President because she's been a mayor.” said Jay Williams, the Democratic-turned-independent mayor of Youngstown. “I’ve never been to Wasilla, but I’m sure it’s a nice little town, In fact it’s so little we could invite them all to sit down in [Youngstown’s] Chevrolet Centre and probably still have room left over.”

“I would love to be the mayor of Wasilla,” he continued. “I could probably do it from my home and not show up to work too often because in Wasilla, they don’t have a crime problem. There were two homicides in Wasilla in the last 13 years.”

Williams added that the average Wasilla income and price for a home are above the national average.

“The education, they have small student/teacher ratios,” said Williams. “That’s not the world that we live in ladies and gentlemen, you all know that here in the real world, we have to deal with issues of crime, and poverty, and education. That’s what happens.”

Before Williams moved on to why he is a fan of Biden’s, he took one last swipe at the notion that Palin claims foreign policy experience because Alaska’s proximity to Russia, an argument offered up by McCain.

“That would be the equivalent of me wanting to do your heart surgery because I live next door to a doctor,” said Williams. “It just doesn't add up. Being mayor is a very good preparation for a lot of things, even potentially being vice president. But only if you're the mayor and have to deal with real world issues.”

Barack Obama and Joe Biden have both refrained from saying much, if anything, about Sarah Palin on the stump - their go-to line is they don’t know enough about her to differentiate her from John McCain.

But some of the surrogates introducing them at rallies have been less restrained; earlier this week, a Michigan supporter introducing Biden at an event called Palin a “bucket of fluff.”

  1. Interesting

That was good! I listened to her answer a question the other day while she was on the stump. A woman in the audience asked her to give specifics on how she would empower women. She proceeded to explain the grade they gave her in high school and McCain had the nerve to chime in about how she helped her basketball team become champions. What an insult to all women...they he would pick this woman as a VP. I'm Vice President of my PTA and serve on various community boards but they last thing I'm going to do is try to run the country. What a joke!!! McCain you should be ashamed of yourself.

  2. Empty suit, empty promises

She also "cute" isn't she Michelle?

Glad you caught yourself aren't you Shelly?

Again the community organizer crowd is undermining a Mayor and Governor who has ACTUAL EXECUTIVE experience who is the VP CANDIDATE while touting the NO EXPERIENCE as an executive Presidential nominee.

Anyone catch the chosen one in Bristol Virginia without his teleprompter "binky" yesterday? IT WAS PAINFUL to WATCH and LISTEN.

You won't see it on the MSM radar as it would prove that he is yep, an EMPTY VESSEL and an EMPTY SUIT.

  3. Pitbull without lipstick

The only thing I have been hearing from Palin is lipstick, how is this advancement for women, she has been talking cosmetics??? She is the most chauvinist person all of 4 candidates. I know a lot of people started hating McCain after he picked Palin. Only the right wing nutjobs like her and they are responsible for "W" in the white house. Need I say more.

What I would like to know is why the Palin clan, like Carl Rove and other Republicans are consistantly getting away with not showing up when Subpoened to appear in court.

Are they beyond the law? For us normal americans that is followed by an arrest warrant, contempt.

    What makes Republicans immune?

  12. Nice!

Yup – typical leftist! Small towns are evil, but vote for us, because WE LIKE blue collar workers! Community organizers are GREAT, but F@#$ small town mayors... I love the unity they display! Lol, the contempt they have for small town people is amazing! And they wonder why "those people" keep voting in Republicans.

Good Job Williams! You just made McCain's job that much easier!

McCain/Palin '08 – Landslide Victory carried on the backs of small town folks!

Give me a break....the only thing political about this was her being dis- invited. Palin was invited and excepted, just as Clinton was. Clinton didn't want to share the stage. The Dems didn't want Palin to be there without there being a Dem Rep. That's polictical.

  15. Linda from URBAN Boston

So America if you come from a small town where you don't experience murders, horrible education, etc., your mayor is worthless and should never think about becoming governor or vice-president or perhaps even President. I guess the American Dream that anyone can grow up to be President doesn't apply to you. You all (little town Americans) according to the Dems. live in a different world.

Maybe you live with the Bible carrying, gun toting people in rural PA you think?

What gets me is Biden didn't say anything to discourage this viewpoint. Sad!!

Linda, (not from smalltown America) but URBAN Boston

  16. Dirty Mind of this democrat

    Such sick people support Obama-Biden.

ok, mayor, so you want a Crime problem in your town ?

Is this all you could wish for your citizens ?
I wish your wish does not come true, which will benefit you, but will hurt Americans. We have enough crime in the world.

Instead of talking of others, highlight your accomplishments williams.

  17. TAYO, NY

Its perfectly alright to draw the line and highlight her negatives and achievement, if any, as these woll help us to know how prepare she is.

However, democrat should avoid name calling as the McCain and RNC are very good at spinning things and playing to the sentiment of Americans.

  18. Uncle Sam

I shall now disclose, by way of a simple experiment, the winner of the upcoming presidential election. Ask anyone – across the political spectrum – the following question:

The record of one candidate does not match his rhetoric.
    Who came to mind?

    The other guy wins.
    :-)

Wow, small student-teacher ratios, no crime problem, only two homicides in 13 years, average income above the norm? Mayor Williams, sounds like a good place to me. Just by that description, it sounds like she did a great job in Wasilla. Sounds like she was a success to real world problems. Next time, just attack John McCain, there is plenty of meat on them bones.

T"here were two homicides in Wasilla in the last 13 years.”

Wait a minute...only 2? In the last 13 years?? Geez, we get that here in the next 10 minutes it ain't even funny!

And is it true that their evarage income at Wasilla is well above the average?? For crying out loud, what city is it, Troy? LOL!!!!

  21. IWASP!-Intelligent Woman Against Sarah Palin

Haha, very funny and he still told the truth. Interesting though I highly doubt her 80% approval rate as governor is true considering the HUGE Anti Palin rally they had last weekend which oddly CNN did not report on. Looking at the size of the crowd, which for Alaska set a new record up there, The Anchorage newspaper stated, they are not liking her at all and it makes you wonder will she even win her own state in the election.

We all know that Palin is a joke as a VP candidate but we lose valuable time when we waste it discussing her and not the issues!

They can keep on beating her up it just helps the McCain/Palin ticket!

  24. AMERICA'S LOVE AFFAIR WITH SARAH WAS A ONE NITE STAND!

Once again, McCrypt, seems to be reviewing Sarah’s “resume” visually.

    Perhaps, McCrypt’s Phoenix is rising?

So, since McCrypt chose Sarah for her “attributes” , we Americans deserve a more qualified VP that fits these standards.

    DOLLY! DOLLY! DOLLY PARTON!

Now that is what I call a qualified woman, because her “BIG HAIR“ puts her closer to God than Palin!

What did YOU think I was talking about?

It's always nice when a mayor of a town makes another town sound like a much better place. What a moron!
