Obama-Biden surrogate mocks Palin

A supporter of Obama-Biden got tough on Palin Thursday.
A supporter of Obama-Biden got tough on Palin Thursday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (CNN) – An Ohio mayor who introduced Joe Biden at a rally Thursday night said Sarah Palin’s hometown of Wasilla, Alaska was “not the real world.”

“One of the things that bothers me is the fact that Governor Palin talks about she's ready to be the Vice President because she's been a mayor.” said Jay Williams, the Democratic-turned-independent mayor of Youngstown. “I’ve never been to Wasilla, but I’m sure it’s a nice little town, In fact it’s so little we could invite them all to sit down in [Youngstown’s] Chevrolet Centre and probably still have room left over.”

“I would love to be the mayor of Wasilla,” he continued. “I could probably do it from my home and not show up to work too often because in Wasilla, they don’t have a crime problem. There were two homicides in Wasilla in the last 13 years.”

Williams added that the average Wasilla income and price for a home are above the national average.

“The education, they have small student/teacher ratios,” said Williams. “That’s not the world that we live in ladies and gentlemen, you all know that here in the real world, we have to deal with issues of crime, and poverty, and education. That’s what happens.”

Before Williams moved on to why he is a fan of Biden’s, he took one last swipe at the notion that Palin claims foreign policy experience because Alaska’s proximity to Russia, an argument offered up by McCain.

“That would be the equivalent of me wanting to do your heart surgery because I live next door to a doctor,” said Williams. “It just doesn't add up. Being mayor is a very good preparation for a lot of things, even potentially being vice president. But only if you're the mayor and have to deal with real world issues.”

Barack Obama and Joe Biden have both refrained from saying much, if anything, about Sarah Palin on the stump - their go-to line is they don’t know enough about her to differentiate her from John McCain.

But some of the surrogates introducing them at rallies have been less restrained; earlier this week, a Michigan supporter introducing Biden at an event called Palin a “bucket of fluff.”

Sarah Palin gets the energy problem because she is a governor of a energy rich state. Hummmmmm, last time I heard that was.......let me think...oh I know, Bush was the governor of an energy rich state and we all know how well that has worked out. OBAMA/BIDEN '08

The statements are all true but this is definitely not the way to say them. This is lowering ourselves to the level of the Republicans and their fear and smear tactics.

Really, pointing out very obvious facts, in a respectful way is mocking?

Please start behaving like adults so that we can have an adult conversation about the real dangers of hiring a small town person who has never left that small town making decisions that are way, way out of her scope of knowledge.

The RNC cannot hide from those facts, and I am quite insulted that they would even consider putting the country in such a dangerous position.

    Peace.

Matt – Alaska is not "first in the line of defense," and Alaska produces 3% of our energy output, not 20%. That was a Palin exaggeration that the "white, uneducated" base fell for.

Amazing – we have more MIDDLE School students in our Boulder Valley District – CO than there are in the whole town of Wasilia – she may have time there – but it isn't ENOUGH. I however, have had ENOUGHT.

Not to mention that Palin has lied about her record. She claims to be fiscally conservative, yet raised taxes to build a hockey stadium! She claims to have opposed the bridge to nowhere – but she forgot to mention that she supported it until it became unpopular. And then there's the ethics investigation she refuses to cooperate with…….. for the sake of this nation, I hope this clown named Palin never makes it anywhere near the White House.

Sarah Palin is a loser, pathological lier and a moose hunter who will led the USA to nowhere.
Experience in foreign relation, woman get a life! Commander in chief of the Alaskan Troops (maybe 40 men and women) hahahahha.
I think that the Republican Party is missing the touch with the american people, because what's happening right now is a proof that these people act as if the american nation consists of mongols.

The Obama campaign will regret for the remarks made by Jay Williams. You can be sure Palin will make hay that the Obama folks belittle small town like Wasilla and has no empathy for the small town folks. If I am Obama, I will tell his surrogates to stop mocking at Palin and try to be agressively positive because people are tired of Chicago style politics.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm sick of hearing her and McCain DELIBERATELY repeat lies over and over after they have been proven to be liars.

We need transparency – not suboena-dodgers – not more of the Cheney/Rove type.

I'm disappointed that the possibility for our first female in a high position has only given us more of the lies and deceit that we've had in politics for generations. Aren't christian women supposed to be above that kind of stuff? shame shame shame

she is currently the governor of that state that is the first line of defense in our national security and produces 20% of our nation's energy supplies.
    ------------

I don't know what to say about the first line of defense nonsense, but Alaska produces 3.5% of the nation's energy, per the Dep't of Energy.

Welcome aboard Republicans, This is a Republican in panic mode acting as if he is a Democrat and will vote for Obama.

Please be reminded that McCain pay's his DAUGHTER, her friends and negative Obama blog staff to pretend to be Democrats and make comments appear as if they come from a Democrat......But of course this one needs to go to Alaska and pick up his check.......

Obama picking Joe Biden was another poor judgement error.......what a joke!
Wake up people, Obama is "owned" and controlled by the Leading Democrat power machine.......he doesn't even take a crap without their express permission.
Since the Democrats have taken control of Congress it has been down hill in every sector of the government/state of affairs..........YOU want more of this, very sick.

I'm sorry but all you idiots supporting her and worried about belittling her experience is crazy. You are the same people that belittled Obama's experience for two years! She deserves all the ridicule.

Obama campained and earned his position for two years. McCain earned his positioned in the same manner. Gov. Palin was a reckless choice to win an election and has not EARNED anything unlike the two men running for POTUS. She would not have survived two years of primaries and raising money.

Explain to me how you support a party that is pro life and pro war. In case you dont understand what that means let me tell you. It means ....Dont kill your baby.......instead ...........let em' grown up so the Republicans can kill em' in war. Absolutely ridiculous!

McCain had soooo many good choices to pick from–Kay Bailey Hutchenson, Olympia Snow for women and Romney, Pawlenty. McCain has become very, very senile in his old age!!! This was a mistake waiting to happen!!!! McCain has screwed up his entire life–The Keating 5 was the beginning of this economic mess and he should have gone to jail!!! Now he has been head of the Commerce Commission which over saw this entire mess–he should be the one to be fired! He deregulated soooo much our forfathers put in place to not ever have another 1929 crash McCain deregulated all of them!!! What a mess McCain has created!!! This republican of 40 years is going for Obama–American will not be stand after 4 years of McCain!!

For such a small city, Wasilla has certainly had it's share of controversy. First, a Mr. Lungren says the stadium was built on his land without his approval and he is suing. Many others are afraid to talk, I suppose because they are afraid of being killed. Those pistol-packing Palins!

Palin is a wheeler dealer on a small scale. She lies and steals to get what she wants. I don't want her doing it on a large scale in the White House. The world leaders of countries who don't like us know about Palin. They listen even closer than we do to our politics. Can you imagine what they will think if McCain/Palin win and the those leaders have to sit down with a person (Palin) they feel is just as much of a criminal as we think they are? It's not going to work.

OK, I wish Obama supporters would shut up about her don't even bring her up in the conversation b/c all that does is drive media focus. Just keep the talks on McCain and let her keep sinking her own ship with these ridiculous interview where she does more dancing around question than the people on Dancing with the Stars do!
