Obama is making a pitch to women voters.
Obama is making a pitch to women voters.

CORAL GABLES, Florida (CNN) – Barack Obama took his week long economic message and gave it a different spin, pitching himself to several thousand female Floridians as the candidate who best understands what women want.

“This isn’t just about politics for me this is personal because I come here today not just as a candidate for president but as a son and a grandson, as a husband and a father who’s seen first hand, throughout my life, the challenges so many women face everyday in this country,” he told a rally at the University of Miami.

Obama needs the women’s vote. The addition of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket and Obama’s decision to pass on Hillary Clinton for his running mate slot put some segments of the female vote up for grabs. Recent polling shows Obama winning women overall but he continues to trail McCain among white women by about 15 points. John Kerry lost that group by 11 points in 2004. This weekend, female Obama surrogates will be hosting events in all 50 states and the campaign is releasing a television ad on equal pay.

As women waved “Women for Obama,” “Moms for Obama,” and “Caregivers for Obama” signs, the Democratic presidential nominee said he understood the downturn in the economy has hit women particularly hard with the cost of child care, education and running a household getting further out of reach. As he has done all week on the economy, Obama sought to paint his Republican opponent as out-of-touch with women.

“It’s not that Senator McCain doesn’t care about what’s gong on in the lives of women in this country, I like to think that it’s just that he doesn’t know,” he said. “Why else would he oppose legislation to help women get equal pay and suggest that the reason women aren’t paid fairly isn’t because of discrimination on the job but because they need more education and training. He must not understand, he must not know.”

Obama touted Joe Biden’s authorship of the Violence Against Women’s Act, something campaign advisors hope to showcase in the ticket’s effort to win over women. While he rarely brings up the politically tricky issue of abortion on the campaign trail, Obama fully embraced it in front of this audience.

Change means a president who will stand up for choice, who understands that five men on the supreme court don’t know better than women and their families and their doctors about what’s best for their health,” he said. “I will never back down from defending a woman’s right to choose.”

Despite her popularity, Obama only mentioned Sen. Hillary Clinton only once and gave her a nod for putting “those 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling.” Clinton however is a crucial part in the Obama campaign’s efforts to court the women vote. She and Biden held an Internet conversation this week on women’s issues.

I am a WHITE mom of 4 and Obama has had my vote from day one. He CARES, hands down, he cares… McCain/Palin can't honestly say that with a straight face. We need someone that truly cares about us MOM's. He knows this because he's watched his own mother struggle. That alone puts him high up in my opinion, he knows what women go thru more than McCain ever could. McCain PUTS women thru hell, not help them out of it.

Palin the Truth hurts.   September 19th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Wait a minute…

What kind of person, Mayor, Govenor Fires anyone that is not 'Loyal" to her even as if she is Above the Law?

Sarah Palin has ORDERED her State Employees to NOT COOPERATE in the Legal Discovery of Facts in an Official Investigation. ORDERED them to conceal the truth.

She is a CHRISTIAN..? :(

Brian   September 19th, 2008 11:04 pm ET

This man does not understand that the Supreme Court does not make the law, they interpret them in relation to the Constitution. There is a woman on the Court, does he not think that a women judge could not possibly interpret the choice law different then he does( I know this one supports abortion)? That only male judges will block a woman's right?

Independent Just Decided to Vote for Obama   September 19th, 2008 11:03 pm ET

It AMAZES me how Dems and Repubs change from one candidate to another.

Why aren't you following your party's PLATFORM?

Those are things that your candidate is supposed to be guided by as he/she governs.

The party platform is the doctrine/dogma/beliefs of your party. Those of the Dem and Repub parties are so different.

So how can you just switch from one candidate to another like you do?

I am an Independent. This gives me alot of room for decision making. I can pick and choose which beliefs on the parties' platforms that appeal to me and those that don't.

I could not in all conscience be a member of a specific party and switch to the other party's candidate.

I came to this blessed country many years ago from Argentina, one of the only countries that print money to solve its problems.
I thought that USA was a country of opportunities like the ones we (with my husband) lived under the Clinton administration.
Yesterday I saw a clip from the first Presidential Debate between Bill Clinton and Bush father and I think we are watching the same movie again!
Forget the experience, race, gender, jugdement, and everything else. What the republicans do not underestand that this is a philosophy issue. We can’t take this anymore!!! We gave the opportunity to them for 8 years! We need a democrat to heal our country again…

Why is it when I comment on your blog that I am always "awaiting moderation". If you have to moderate my comments because they do not coincide with your views, then just don't change anything but , instead, eliminate it. You may not alter, ie moderate, my blog. In other words, YOU may not speak for ME.

I fully support Barack Obama's campaign and salute his health care plan. SUGGESTION: Michael Moore's movie "Sicko" should be a must-see for everyone but especially women, to fully understand our current health care crisis. THEN read "Why Obama's Health Care Plan is Better" (September 16, Wall Street Journal) and you will see many of the outstanding benefits mentioned in the movie, in his health care plan. The preventive care alone will save the country billions of dollars. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO IGNORE THIS. Under McCain's plan, many millions more will be without employer-sponsored health insurance, and the "coverage" will be even worse than now. Pay attention women! This is about you!

Sarah   September 19th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

I can not believe the women who once supported Hillary Clinton, have so easily forgot everyhing that she stands for and are going to vote McCain/Palin just because there is a woman on the ticket. I see people dressing their little girls in t-shirts that say "Strong women vote for McCain/Palin.' Strong women do not forget everything that they believe in just because the other party has someone of their same gender on the ticket.

Canta   September 19th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Well as an outsider and reading some of these blogs I honestly don't believe Americans have much of a future ahead of them unless they start forgeting about the lies and smears and look at what issues you need to survive.

Your country is a wisker away from a full blown depression and not much farther away from a draft to support many potential conflicts throughout the world.

At some point in time Americans are going to have to put more of an emphasis on helping their citizens survive than fighting and financing wars. You can't keep spending so much money on unnecessary wars and hope to survive in the long term.

Just some thoughts but somehow I don't think many of you agree with me on this one.

Was ready to vote for Hillary, but now voting Barack Obama. McCain/Palin will not do anything for us. It would be like voting for Bush, there won't be any change, Repubs don't have that change in their mind set. Repubs would overturn Roe v Wade, no right to choose, no equal pay for equal work, also I do/would not agree with their pick of Sup Ct. Judges that they would put in place. I am voting Obama /Biden

Barack Obama would bring intelligence, education, clear-thinking and a view that the world can be better to the office of the presidency. it is impossible for me to think of the consequences this country would face with 72 year old John McCaCane in office, good man that he is, a twice cancer survivor, and with Sarah Palin, totally unqualified, as VP just waiting to pounce. On this evening news, 9/19, Obama had a photo opt with former members of Clinton economic team. He was surrounded by them but where was Hillary. No wonder Hillary supporters are going to vote for McCain. Every chance he gets, he ignores the Clinton's.
He thinks women are stupid and don't notice these things. This is why Obama will lose the election. He just is too inexperienced to be President and he knows nothing about the women that supported Hillary Clinton. He can't win us back.

My favorite not reported news item of the day.

Taken directly from a letter written by John McCain, this is his Health Care plan…

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

The man is obviously not playing with a full deck.

Peace.

How can any woman vote for a man who picked an inexperienced lying person to be his running mate.
The woman lies so much she now cannot distinguish the truth from her lies.
She tells Charlie Gibson that she didn't blink and eye when asked to run for veep. But she tell Sean Hannity, that she waited and talked it over with her girls and they decided as a family.
She tells anyone who'll listen that her state brings in 20% of oil to the lower 48, yet it's been said that it's as little as 3.5% to 13%
She told Charlie that she's been to Iraq and Germany and other countries, yes but only to have her plane refueled.
She can see Russia, Siberia from her backyard, how does this give her international experience.
She said that she would put the Fed budget online. She doesn't even know that it's been online for 2 years already, due to a bill brought in part by Barack Obama.

Chuck Hagel from her own party doesn't consider her to be veep material, so anyone who reads the newspapers, watches cable or non cable news must know that this woman is not ready to be the Vice President of the US.

Please people, follow the issues.

KC   September 19th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

It seems the same group of people blog or are you just bots.

Have any of you even bothered to do some research, have any of you studied who voted for what? Did you study all the canditates fully?

My Daddy used to tell me "I noticed the young men looking at you, soon they will be asking you out, I want you to do me a favor. I want you to listen to them boast and brag, let them talk, cause they are just trying to give you a little sweet talk." I said "Oh what should I do?" He said " They only want something from you, maybe a smooch maybe something more, don't fall for it. Do something first, first find out what this guy has done, find out everything you can, your a smart girl." This was real good advice from my Dad

You girls have got to get smart. Obama has done nothing in Congress and if you find out just what he did do in his community service job you will run for the hills.

inuk of the north   September 19th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Well, well. well. Sarah Palin continues to peel votes from the Dems and now Obama realizes the full value of those votes.

It's funny how politicians only respond when they need the votes.

A few months ago OB felt he didn't need help with women and now the red flags are flying, the radar's beeping and the Dems have launched 'WONDERFUL WOMEN'S WEEK' and the Anointed One is playing suck-up.

HRC was the most natural and best choice for VP and the OB team arrogantly dismissed her. Good judgement, huh?

If a so-called weak, lying, inexperienced, morally defective candidate like Palin can peel votes from His Royal Luminosity, how good is this guy really?

When the elction is over, there will be plenty of blood-letting in the Dem party and lots of familiar faces will be gone.

I'm going to start a pool where we pick the politician and the date they quit or get fired. First, Dean. Second, Pelosi. Third, Obama. Fourth, Reid. And many more later.

If Obama had picked Govenor Napolitano from Arizona then we never would have heard about Sarah Palin.

Napolitano is a 2 term govenor.

She has impeccable foreign policy credentials having hosted several international delegations.

She has worked across party lines in the state.

She is more popular than McCain in Arizona bringing the state into play.

This is a border state and she has a very good understanding of Immigration and a good relationship with the hispanic community.

As far as I'm concerned, Obama lost my vote when he chose Joe Biden. If he loses the election he has no one to blame but himself.

There is no way Obama could get my vote. Unless he started preaching tax cuts, a decrease in the size of government, and a free-market economy… but this is about as likely as our economy surviving an Obama administration. Obama is exactly what women are beginning to suspect he is; a know-nothing pretender instead of an advocate of real change. Remember; change is not always positive.

People who are going to vote for McCain just because of the Hilary thing really need to think twice or maybe 3 times. If Obama would have picked her, he would have recieved so much flack, people would have precieved it as political pandering, postering, buying votes. I knew before he picked Biden he was in a NO win situation with this thing. So you would pick a man who wants to take your rights away from you, suck away the rest of our future, I guess 8 years of Bush and Co. hasn't done enough to sway people away from this whole thing.
McCain is a hot head, he reminded me of a Bull in a China shop today when he was speaking, not reasuring not at all! Obama was calm and didn't want to speckulate on a course of action without further information. THANK GOD how refreshing someone who thinks before he acts!
If McCain wins this due to a Gender Card, people deserve what they get… Sad!

Obama if you support equal pay, why do the women working on your campaign early 83 cents for every dollar a man earns? (FYI it's $1.03 for McCain staffers). If you cared about the women why did you run a sexists campaign against Hillary. If you respect women why did you belittle Governor Palin dissing her as a small town Mayor after she was announced and failing to acknowledge she is Governor of a state. Your actions speak much louder than your words!

Wondering Where Hillary Is   September 19th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I heard a great speech by Hillary praising Obama at the convention but I havent seen any coverage of her campaigning for him. Whats going on here? Does she or doesn't she want to get Barack Obama elected this fall? If anything, the democrats need her now more than ever since Palin is taking up so much of the media coverage in favor of the republicans. We need Clinton on camera talking to women and pleading with them to vote on the issues that matter to them and not get caught up in the hype that is Palin.

He's unleashed an army of women against Palin.
He wants women to think he has a better understanding of females than Palin or any other woman. If that's the case, why doesn't he pay his female staff the same as the men, as was pointed out on one of the networks. Most of all, why was Hillary not on his list for vp? He gave the impression she was on his short list.
He chose a man as vp….one who doesn't threaten him and one who only rcvd 1% of the votes as a candidate for president.

Where is the fairness in his treatment of Hillary, and now Sarah?
Don't buy a pig in a poke, ladies. Look past the charm and you will see nothing spectacular. And please, it's hard enough being a woman in this country….don't turn on your own gender, don't make it harder.

But seriously, if Obama really cared about the women's vote, he would have Hillary running as his VP candidate instead of that moron Biden. Biden got a grand total of about 7000 votes during his run for Pres this time around. Why on earth would you put someone on your ticket who has proven to have very little support from your own party's constituents?

Bush is the worst President of the U.S. in recent times, that he caused the voters to vote for anyone just to get rid of all his stupidities in the White House. This will be the worst election in the history of the U.S. I will not vote because none of them will do what they are supposed to do for the general good and for the sake of this great country. Obama just want to be Prrreeesssiddddddent of the USA.
He will not be able to do change, he will be a puppet president. McCain in his late years, is given a chance to be powerful and to use that power for the general good and for the sake of this great country. He won't do it. He is loyal to the GOP than to the hard working taxpayers and to this country. He does not get it. The situation is too polarized. The intelligent voting public is in a huge dilemma.

PROUD AMERICAN   September 19th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Obama is a three-year Junior Senator without a single important legislative achievement to his name, a former Illinois state senator who voted "present" nearly 130 times. As president of the Harvard Law Review, as law professor and as legislator, has he ever produced a single notable piece of scholarship? Written a single memorable article?

HIS MOST MEMORABLE WORK IS A BIOGRAPHY OF HIS FAVORITE SUBJECT: “HIMSELF”.

He worked 142 days in the senate and has spent the rest of the time running for president. If he can’t do his senate job — he certainly cannot lead our country. He has based his entire campaign on lies and has too many ties to terrorists and anti-Americans.

I’m voting for John S. McCain in November.

When you people post information such as Barack pays his women staff workers such and such…please include your source. All I know you can be making this information up.

The truth is, Obama is on record and voted for women's right more than McCain. Also if you look at his family, he was raised by his mother and grandmother, married to his wife and has two daughters…I would think he's someone who cares about women's right over the womanizer McCain who is against abortion, equal pay, and ONLY picked Palin for political gain.

Also if you compare the issues side by side…Obama is clearly the winner. We cant afford another 4 years of the same.

Vote Obama/Biden.

CNN read post or do your own story but this is HUGE news for the voters:

This is a cut and past from the NYT:

John McCain’s article, Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American, in the Sept./Oct. issue of Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries. You might want to be seated before reading this.
Here’s what McCain has to say about the wonders of market-based health reform:
Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

My thoughts: WE ARE DOOMED because middle america will be voting for Palin and Obama will lose!!! After all these gaffes, lies, scams and scandals if McCain wins it is only because OBAMA is black PERIOD!!! I will go to my death thinking that

By picking a devious, lying, and scheming woman like Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has insulted every American woman. By picking her as a show piece to forward his campaign (she could be nothing else because she has no idea what she is doing and only lies about what she has done), he has demonstrated that he doesn't take women seriously nor does he support them.

You don't hear McCain promoting equal pay for equal work; he is really for pro-life and will repeal Roe v. Wade the minute he takes office. All he does is criticize and lie about Obama. These are facts, not opinions, and they do not support Obama's rhetoric.

SORRY. They are not FACTS they are averages. McCain's campaign took the number of female employees, added their salaries and then divided it by whatever amount of women to get that "talking point."

McCain has said women should get paid less then men because they need more education and training, THAT is a FACT.

Carl Justus   September 19th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

If the women want equal pay and equal treatment in jobs and any other endevor they should vote for Obama.
McCain has voted many times not to raise the minimum wage and to give women equal treatment in the board rooms.

Greenwalk   September 19th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Let's face reality. People are only voting for McCain because he's white and Obama is black. Why else would someone vote for a person who has no honor, no integrity and will lie his way into office. Some white people would rather have a person with these qualities than to have a black man in office. I knew it was too soon for a black president in the U.S.

JPM   September 19th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Number 1 Issue for me: Economy. McCain fails miserably. His policies have been tried and we can all see they don't work. He also wrote just last month that we should privatize health care "the same way as banking"….McCain just does not have the right instincts for the economy. He is wrong, wrong wrong.

I hope everyone thinks about their sons and daughters as i can see this man bringing back the draft. If you vote for him and that happens, you only have yourselves to blame for it for voting for him. Let it end now and vote for Obama for your daughters and your sons. He will finish what George Bush started. Do you really like that??? Dont vote for him because Sarah Palin is a woman.and thats it. This woman thing has really gotten out of hand. I tell you this type of talk will make it very difficult for any other woman to be successful in another white house bid. If women are going to be bickering and acting like brats, why give the chance. Emotions sometimes cloud the mind and thinking becomes cloudy. Anyone in their right mind would not vote for someone who is stand total on the opposite ends of their issues. Clinton and Obama had closely the same position on most issues. IF THIS KEEPS UP I VOW TO NEVER VOTE FOR ANOTHER FEMALE FOR ANY OFFICE. Minds are cloudy and emotions sometimes cloud their thinking. YES I SAID. As a working mother of 4 kids, I WILL NOT vote for more handouts for people unwilling to work for it. Don't get me wrong, I know there are people out there who are hard working and struggling to provide for their families, but I've seen too many people who just want things handed to them for nothing.

Why is our high school drop-out rate so high?! Because our kids don't want to make an effort to get the most out of the FREE education provided to them.

I come from a single parent family who qualified for food stamps but my mom was TOO proud to take them and did without herself so that we could have clothes and generic brand foods. I paid my own way through college by working and taking student loans. I completed grad school while working full-time and paying for it on credit cards.

I do not think it's fair that after all those years of sacrifice and hard work that I have to pay higher taxes to provide for those who are unwilling to sacrifice for their kids or ensure that they finish school to provide better for themselves and their families.

Obama? NO WAY! He's as big a liar and flipflopper as the rest of them. Anybody who can't see that can't see past their own hand extended outwards looking for a freebie.

How can any TRUE Democratic Party Woman vote for McCain/Palin? I agree with Shirley P. Oh my women!!! Put away your resentment about how Hillary was treated, I did. Start doing your research on John McCain and womens issues……look at where I am from. Do some homework on the Keating 5 and stop putting the whole blame for the financial fiasco on Democrats. Look at the big picture, and see which party controlled Congress the most these last eight years. McCain was a deregulator and free trader and still is, I don't care what he says. As to Palin, well, she has little standing and this is what you want a heartbeat away from the Presidency. But if you want more of the same Phil GRamm's financial plan that got us into this, and the same cast of corrupt characters, then vote Republican. BUT: when everything gets worse, DON'T ASK THE DEMOCRATS TO TRY TO BAIL YOU OUT!

No Hillary = No Obama   September 19th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Pitching to women? We don't need or want a "pitchman". He had his chance and he thought he was invinciable and could jettison Hillary as soon as the media aided and abetted his nomination. The ONLY reason he is "pitching" is because McCain showed him up with Sarah Palin and now the polls teeter-totter day by day. This is what I don't like about Obama – he thinks he can rely on his charm and ingratiating ways to win over those he betrayed. I'm writing in Hillary Clinton's name on my ballot – it does count – I would never vote for a traitor.

Joshua College Station Texas   September 19th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Angela–

It wasn't arrogance and pride that kept Obama from choosing Hillary, it was trust. He couldn't trust her. She even hinted that a serious tragedy could happen to him. And remember, it took her weeks and weeks after he had won to accept that she hadn't won, and she had said a lot of terrible things about him during the primaries. During the time he was making his decision, she was still being defiant. Not only that, but choosing her threatened his message of credibility as a change candidate. And being VP isn't about earning it–there is no precedent for automatically picking a runner-up to be the winner's VP. The best reason for Obama to pick Hillary is because he felt they were the best match, but in this instance, it just wasn't the case. 4 years is a long time to be with a VP you don't feel comfortable with.

Mike, Syracuse NY   September 19th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Ha, Ha. Obama had a huge chance to show his support for women and blew it. Obama ran a sexist campaign against Hillary, didn't pick her as VP, and now wants it all to be forgotten. Hillary got a lot more respect from McCain than Obama. Who picked a woman for their VP candidate? Actions count, words don't.

VISION doesn't get anything done. Experience does. Experience tells us how people will do things. Obama has very dubious and questionable experience at best with no accomplishment.

McCain has a history of working with dems. That's why so many republicans don't like him. You can talk all you want about McCain being a 'third Bush term," but that's a lie. You people make me sick. Like it's so horrible to reach across the aisle. Like the whole world is either this or that. It's not. There is a lot of gray. McCain doesn't pretend to have all the answers (unlike Mr. know it all, who seems to act like in two short years as Senator he's suddenly an expert in absolutely everything). McCain knows when to compromise and work things out with others who hold different views. Oh. How terrible.

Say Cheese Obama   September 19th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

Obama is good at one thing lying! He can pretend to care about everyone, but if he's elected he will be looking out for all his friends. What's scary is that someone with his lack of experience is being considered to be President. I would vote for Joe Biden over him anyday. Funny how Obama and Co. continue to pick at Sarah Palin. I think people who feel inadequate themselves turn the spotlight on others to distract from their lacking qualities. He lacks substance and integrity and he knows it!!

Marie in California   September 19th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

I'm one woman who wants absolutely nothing to do with Obama! Obama would be more credible to American women had he chosen Clinton as his VP nominee……but…….he didn't. Bad judgment.

McCain is way ahead of the game regarding women…..with his choice of a refreshing, admirable, successful female VP candidate. Palin was sure a surprise when she was announced. But I like her a lot.

I'd been hoping McCain would have Condi Rice as a running mate, but I hear she said she was not interested in any further politics and just wanted to go back to a quiet life at Stanford.

Yaaaarg, my name is Average Joe and I'm tough; I've fought wars and felt pain. Listen, you don't have to serve in the armed forces to be President of the United States. It's the wisdom to lead that matters, and McCrook (i.e., the person with no honor) has none!!

Lifelong Republican for Obama, Columbia, TN   September 19th, 2008 8:56 pm ET

I am convinced that under an Obama-Biden Administration the right of all women will dramatically improve, thus improving the quality of life of all Americans. Women are the backbone of the American Family and deserve a President and Vice President that recognize this. McCain and Palin are not only fools but will set the women's rights movement back about 100 years!

It's past time for a change of direction. This election is not just about women….it is not about race….it is, in every respect, about an ideology allowed to go too far. When our economy is callapsing aound us, we are "all" affected. It is time for the people to do what is expected in a democracy….throw the bums out (as my grandfather would say..) and start over. ….. it's not about personalities….it's about ideology. Just as shareholders and board members of failing companies make changes, by cleaning house….. it is time for the American people to CLEAN HOUSE in the way our democracy allows…..

As a woman, I hope this focus on "sexism" and "women" goes away…..in my 30 years as a non-management but successful worker I just can't relate to it. I loved the Clinton years…prosperity and good relations with the world were SO inspiring. I like Hillary. But I just don't get this sexism thing…….Sorry…..she lost me there.

I guess some women just hate being patronized by this over-sensitivity. I'm sure there are a few areas where discrimination still exists and by all means focus on those areas. But don't generalize it! Some of us much prefer to sink or swim on our merits than to be treated with kid gloves just because of our sex….
I hope Obama wins, and I hope the Clinton's play a big role restoring our prosperity and humanity with the world. Please don't lose!!!!!

Kim J   September 19th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Not every woman votes based on a candidate's position on abortion. There are actually bigger issues out there to focus on. And, my insurance covers my birth control pills, so if you want that covered switch to HealthNet.

Becky, Midwest   September 19th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Don't bother, Obama. Save your breath. Former Hillary supporter, now voting for experience, that would be McCain, not the junior senator. You had your chance. You blew it when you trashed Hillary. You blew it with your choice of Biden (career politician), no change there. You've bored me to death with your smooth talking, while actually doing and saying nothing. Goodbye. Good riddance.

Thumbs down to cnn for adding that last paragraph.

How DISGUSTING. BO is a sexist pig (sans lipstick). He disrespected Hillary and further fractured the democratic party by slapping her in the face by choosing long term insider biden. The only CHANGE that BO is capable of is asking his wife to change his diaper. Inexperience, frightfully scary for America. He is a sleazy LAWYER just what washington and America does not need. Mavericks will win it!!! McCain/Palin 08!! Leaders we can trust!

Hey Average Joe: We are looking at the track record and we can see that McCain is NOT about change.

And you don't care about track records because Palin's lack of track record doesn't bother you one bit. Its okay if you just don't want to vote for a Black guy.

Katie   September 19th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

I'm very excited and proud to say I will be voting Obama-Biden in November. They are the best choice for women.

Jessica   September 19th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

The current state of affairs in our country is going to dictate the outcome of this election. Obama will be the victor, overcoming covert racism, overt (yet untrue) attacks of his religion. The far right's efforts are posted all over the web. It's just plain pathetic.

Republicans are selfish and narrow-minded. Any talk of addressing social issues are superficial, or nonexistent. The only attempt at actual "caring" about others is with the issue of abortion. Yet, never a mention of how they would address the social problems that would result if it were to become illegal. They would just leave these women to live in poverty…homeless..jobless…no hope. Poverty is already a dire issue, and this would allow it to grow exponentially. PLEASE!
Then fools like OREILEY would turn his nose up at the new epidemic of poor, immoral, single mothers looking for a handout.
Tunnel vision to say the least, folks.

This country can do better…vote Obama

No Way, No How, No BHO!   September 19th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

He is NOT for women, just himself. He uses Hillary and Bill to get what HE wants. Me Me Me…look at me! I raise millions and schmooze with stars…It's all about ME!

Get real people. Obama's promises are empty. Who's going to pay for all the things he promises? Not me. I already pay enough taxes for welfare fraud. Now you want me to pay more? Help people "who need it? " That's what volunteerism is for. All the rich people, including Obama himself, would do the world wonders if they simply donated money to "those that need it" instead of making tax payers pay. What? You don't have any? The economy is so bad that Obama raises record amounts of money? Where is it coming from? If not from struggling families here in the US, then where?

McCain/Palin '08 & '12…Palin '16 &'20!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TrueDemocrat   September 19th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

McCain thinks women are stupid and will blindly vote based on gender. Palin knows she wasnt picked on merit, or substance. She was picked because she was a young woman who can rally the conservative side, with her book burning ways. Have you seen the list of books she banned? Is this the 50's?

I thought McCain was scary because he has sold his soul to get elected, but Palin is even scarier.

McCain truly underestimates women. He'll find out on November 4th!

Independent for OBAMA/BIDEN!

I am woman   September 19th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

People, he did not say that he could get her voters and not the other way around. Any way, I believe that he truly cares about women and their issues. Given his background I would find it hard for him not to. Furthermore merely talking about the discrepancy in pay is a step in the right direction. McCain is not for us. He doesn't care about equal pay, has talked about using choice words, and choose a woman against many things we woman have fought for.

It's great woman are overall for Obama, but how stupid are white women that we overall are more for McCain? Come on women, step up for our sons and daughters. End this war. Fix this economy. Vote for Obama.

Chris in vA,

Agree with you! But guess this, red necks are everywhere. Was on the 405 in Los Angeles not thirty minutes ago and was stuck behind a monster truck with confederate flag painted on the back, a license plate that read "Pyro-Pop" and an anti Obama sticker in the window. And of course the driver was cutting everyone off, he almost took out a family of four! I couldn't believe it. I HAVE A DREAM… that someday this country will get of rid of bigotry once and for all!

Fraser   September 19th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Obama has been very respectful towards women and he supports equal pay for women and a woman's right to choose. Those are core issues and they are enough to get my vote.

I guess McCain thinks that women will vote for anyone with ovaries–even if they are anti-choice.

pa.joe   September 19th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

I think that American women are smart enough to vote for the person who represents their opinions and values.
This is why I think most will support the candidate who will protect woman's reproductive rights, who will improve public schools, who will see that all Americas children have health insurance, who will demand that women get equal pay for equal work, and who won't sent our sons and daughters off to fight wars based on lies.
And that candidate is Barack Obama.

Dani   September 19th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

How anyone can support Hillary and her platform, and then jump ship for Palin is beyond me. If your basis of voting is on something like race or gender as opposed to the issues (and I mean the REAL ones like economy and foreign policy, not the moral religious stuff that has no place in politics anyway), then you deserve the grave you dig for yourself when you suddenly find yourself with no rights, no house, no anything.

I'm all for women's rights (what woman isn't?) and everything we gained in the Nineteenth Amendment. The sad truth is that most Americans don't even know what that is. How many of you had to look it up? That's one of the real issues. Education.

Issues like abortion, aside from being religious and having no place in politics ("separation of church and state" anyone?), is a state mandated issue. (Tenth Amendment. It's your Constitution, learn it and love it.) The states are the ones that make those decisions. Not the President. It's aggravating that issues the President doesn't control are constantly brought up in elections. It's politicians taking advantage of our lack of knowledge. Knowledge we should have in schools. Education should be the main focus of any election. If we don't educate our students, how can they make the important decisions that will affect our economy? How will they decide what the right foreign policy should be?

I hope not.

JD   September 19th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

As a woman, I would like to ask all you women who fight so hard for the right to "choose" – do you know that Planned Parenthood (HUGE supporter of women's rights, and praised/supported by Obama in a big way) was established by Margaret Sanger, for the purpose of eliminating the black race??? This is factual, and well documented. Please do your research. Why would Obama support abortion and Planned Parenthood when its abortions and birth control were established to eliminate his race? Why would any non-racist Christian? And as for Biden stating that he believes abortion isn't right, but he can't force his religious beliefs on someone else… this isn't a matter of forcing your beliefs on anyone. It is a matter of justice – giving the most basic right of our constitution (LIFE, liberty, happiness) to the littlest of our society. Who will fight for the rights of all those little girls (women in the making) in the womb? Or do they have to be of reproductive age to have their rights recognized?

Jennifer   September 19th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

CNN, just REPORT the news. That last paragraph is just your weak attempt of stirring things up. God, I'm so SICK of the media. Remember the time when the news was just that? Obama is going to win this election IN SPITE of your biased reporting!

This is a man who truly respects women. Just look the way he treats his wife, his grandmother, and sister,..not to mention his daughters too! He was very gracious with Hillary and speaks of her with great admiration.

McCain, on the other hand, called his wife a c_ _ t, and joked about women enjoying rape. He ONLY has Palin has his VP because of she's a woman. He uses women and has no respect for them.

Obama is the right and only choice for women and america!

Phoenix   September 19th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Angela, you go girl. Hillary is NOTHING like Palin. Hillary was truly an "every person candidate," and not just a woman baiting candidate. That's all Palin is, and that's why she is fading quicker than a shooting star. Hillary was the real "Barracuda," and could take on the big boys, Palin is a puppy that needs house training. Palin is virtually voiceless because powerful men are telling her what to say and what to do, how is that progress. Second, I'm tired of hearing that Hillary should have been VP. I'm a Hillary fan, but Hillary did not want to be anyone's VP. She wanted to be the top of the ticket. It is an insult for women and men to continue acting like Hillary needs "sympathy" from Obama.

Harold (Canada)   September 19th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Watch out. Palin was appointed to run as VP for McSame only because she has the looks to fool people. She is very shallow, and is hiding from the press.

Now we hear that Todd Palin self appoints himself to become an official too, in Alaska. What an abuse of power. This Palin woman is so shallow, and whoever follows her like sheep – shame on you!

Hopefully before this campaign is over his rhetoric will not conceal his inexperience and lack of good judgment. We have a neophyte here and American are finding out rather quickly. Grace   September 19th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

I heard Sen. Obama's speech to Women in Florida. IT was absolutely amazing. He spoke as if he was speaking to every single woman. This is WHY this man is FAR MORE QUALIFIED and EDUCATED to lead this country forward. He's got this 'sixth' sense about him that brings a new element to this country that has been "lacking" the past 8 years. We've seen NO CHANGE in this country and we've watched our economy go down the toilets on the Republican watch. I'm ALL for CHANGE.

He's brighter, intelligent, not a "hot head" and a "reckless" thinker, he has this calmness about him that is absolutely amazing. He's always so well mannered, soft spoken and has a "calm" being about him. This is the PRESIDENT QUALITY we want in our President.

For the first time in a LONG time, I feel confident the future of my country. I feel like we FINALLY have someone who is "bringing something NEW to the table" for a change.

I think NOW's (National Organization of Woman) endorsement of Obama speaks loud enough! They say that Palin will only make woman's lives more difficult as she turns back the hands of time (if she had her way). As for McCain, his track record says enough.

I find it interesting that all the woman teachers who teach at my wife's school are all supporting Obama … and are all worried about Palin. In the end, McCains pick will back-fire on him. It's too bad, I'd love to see a woman as President or VP … but Palin.

And there's no way I'd vote Green … even though I'm registered as one. She's a little too elites for me!

I know you all want to comment on specific stories, but just wanted you to know that I am on a mission. I wanted to try alternative news sources in this election, so decided to try Fox news. My experience is that they publish very biased news, they censor comments to their stories, refuse to publish any comments that contradict their view point, and are generally a poor source of legitimate news. Go to any other web site for your info. Avoid Fox news at all costs.

Patti Zimmerman   September 19th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

I am confident in Obama's judgement.
Every step of the way Obama has communicated clear plans to take this country in back to economic stability and growth, exit Iraq safely, rebuild our alliances around the world and end our dependance on foreign oil. These are just a few of the important changes he will implement when elected President. Do yourself a favor and check out the details on his website. Then check out McCain's 26 year record and plans. What stopped him from implementing his plans all that time?

Obama has surrounded himself with the best and the brightest problem solvers. McCain chose Palin, lobbyists and Bush's cronies.

MOTHER'S AND GRANDMOTHER, YOU DECIDE, IF MCCAIN IS "COUNTRY FIRST" OR "GIMMICKS FIRST"   September 19th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Laura Bush stated on 09/01/08 that Palin’s experience as a mayor, qualified her for the Republican vice presidency.

Cindy McCain stated Sunday, 8/31/08 Palin had national security experience because Alaska was next to Russia.

QUESTIONS TO ALL THE MOTHER'S OF AMERICA'S CHILDREN

Are you willing to take a chance that the welfare and safety of your own children, may at sometime in the future be the responsibility of the Republican party that actually believes that anyone, male or female, with experience as a city council member and the mayor of a village of 9.000 for 8 of her 10 years of “executive” experience, actually qualifies the candidate for the top office in the land?

The same Republican party believes that the fact that the state, which has a total population of less than the city of Atlanta, and which she is the current governor of for all of 20 months, during which time she has already managed to create a cloud of suspicion for possibly abusing the power of her office. and is currently being investigated, is actually qualified for national security because the state she is the governor of is next to Russia?

No matter how you feel about the Democratic ticket at least the one with the lesser experience was ELECTED, and made a VP selection of someone who would bring balance to the ticket and provides some responsibility. The Republican VP was SELECTED by one man that actually believes the Republican statements and beliefs as outlined above.

You parents out there need to think long and hard about this ticket but more importantly about the Republican party which is apparently so welling to cater to the Far Right that the entire Republican party is willing to chance putting your own kids future in jeopardy, just so they can win an election?

How exactly is that considered "Country First"?

Darlene   September 19th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Firstly – I continually watch CNN(totally addicted). I find it absurd that women are leaning towards McCain just because a woman is on the ticket. McCain is not original, he steals all ideas and words directly from Obama's mouth. McCain and Palin continually LIE, a trait I can't stand. It is clear that Obama is very intelligent and if the citizens of the United States know what is good for them, they will vote for him. Smart leadership should be top priority, not bucking your party.

HIllary has done more for Obama than any other losing candidate in history has done for a nominee- Obama won this- it's his job to go out and earn our votes- not Hillary's.

I am not sold on Obama myself- but I was glad to see him, yes him the actual candidate out there working to earn our votes. It's not Hillary's responsibility to win this election for him- it 's his!

I read where Rick Warren said to vote for the person who has character. That spells OBAMA. Obama and Joe Biden are quality people who walk their talk. They haven't thrown out dirty, sleezy, lying ads just to get a vote. McCain, on the other hand, sacrificed country for politics, and just look at his past. He is an adulterer, a liar, a compromiser, he is forgetful, his lobbyist running his campaign tells him when to jump and how high, and he is truly NO LEADER! McCain can't stay on subject and when he tries, he gets his facts straight. He doesn't make any decision without his lobbyists running his campaign tells him what to do. We can't aafford to make a mistake and have McCain in office. He is not honorable.

leigh   September 19th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

R, Ohio   September 19th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

Honestly, Hillary removed herself from the possibity of being Obama's running mate. The campaign she led was so incredibly dirty and offensive; how could he choose her? She forgot the unsaid rule of being her brother's keeper. They came from the same party, so they were supposed to be like family, but she turned badly against her family. Had he chose her, he would've been severly criticized for that as well.

Bill and Hillary could be out there campaigning furiously and we wouldn't have close polls at all.

Sure, Biden has the experience and wisdom by far over Sarah Palin,
but Hillary would shredd her to peaces.

And absolutely right, with Hillary as VP
it could have been a blow out.

For once I have to agree. Wrong VP pick!!

Bill and Hillary could be out there campaigning friously and we wouldn't have close polls at all.

Sure, Biden has the experience and wisdom by far over Sarah Palin,
but Hillary would shredd her to peaces.

And absolutely right, with Hillary as VO it could have been a blow out.

The women of this Nation wants to be paid equally, have freedom of choice with THEIR reprodutive body parts, and want to be treated with equal respect…not like Barbie or a less-than-equal.
Obama will win the women's vote BIG- wait and see.
All they have to do is check the voting record on Women's issues – NO HOW- NO WAY- NO McCain/Palin!

Pennsylvania

you are not voting for Obama because he said the word bitter to discuss people's frustrations with the country. You will vote for McCain whose economic advisor called you a nation of whiners and have a mental recession. Wow so you are voting for the guy who insulted you. Well, the makes sense. Not!

Laughing at Democrats   September 19th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

I LOVE how when protesters interrupt McCain's speech, you Dems are all giddy and joyful, but whoa! When black protesters interrupt an Obama speech, all of a sudden it is a right wing conspiracy that they were paid off. Surely no blacks in this country are against Obama's plans to raise taxes which will put them out of jobs!?!?!?!?!?!

It is gonna be awesome when you wake up on November 5th and realize that there is no conspiracy and that yes in fact there are truly unpaid blacks who are against Obama. Sure Oprah supports him, but she can afford the tax hikes. These guys are smart.

And I bet you that Jesse Jackson followers do not trust Obama. Go ahead Democrats, vote to increase your taxes. Dumb dumb dumb…when you push that button, just leave a $100 Ben Franklin sitting on the voting booth machine for the next guy.

National Organization for Women PAC Endorses Obama-Biden

STATEMENT OF KIM GANDY
Chair, National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC)

September 16, 2008

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce today, on behalf of the nation's oldest and largest women's rights organization, that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) proudly endorses Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.

It is no coincidence that I am joined in this announcement by so many allied organizations that collectively represent a broad and diverse cross-section of U.S. women. From teachers to social workers, from business owners to college students, women in this country are lining up behind the candidate who is out there every day standing up — clearly and consistently — for women. Women of all ages, races and ethnicities are coming together in support of Sen. Obama and his pledge to fulfill this country's promise of equal opportunity for our daughters as well as all our sons.

Although it is very unusual for us to endorse in a presidential election, this is an unprecedented candidate and an unprecedented time for our country. The NOW PAC reviewed Sen. Obama's record and public statements on issues that disproportionately affect the women of this nation, and I spoke with him at length about his commitment to women's equality. For example:

On pay equity. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation to end wage discrimination against women.

On reproductive rights. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, to strengthen access to contraception and reproductive health care, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. He strongly supports Roe v. Wade and will oppose any efforts to overturn it.

On violence against women. Sen. Obama supports the continued reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act — of which Sen. Joe Biden is the chief sponsor — as well as the Security and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Act, which is legislation to provide legal, medical and financial support to victims of domestic violence.

On the Supreme Court. Sen. Obama opposed the nominations of George Bush's extreme right-wing nominees to the Supreme Court, who have consistently ruled against women's rights,

For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said "yes" to women's rights, while John McCain has consistently said "no" – NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women's rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance.

NOW supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary, and now we join with her in saying "NO" — No Way, No How, No McCain! And we proudly stand arm-in-arm with her in putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work and our hard-earned money, behind the next President of the United States — Barack Obama, and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden.

texas democrat   September 19th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

I look at the women who support Mccain and they are so different from me. I had 2 daughters and a husband with bi-polar,chronic psychosis and I had to basically be the breadwinner in my family. He has been in a healthcare facility most of our married life and I could not receive disability because it would stop my salary cap at work. I am surviving but it has been so hard. Now I have health problems and I still find some small amount of money to support Barack Obama. We need a change and sometimes it's up to the women to say "I get it".

Ashamed   September 19th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

I will never vote for you Obama. I am a black woman and I am ashamed of the kind of campaign you are running. I am really sorry that you decided to run for the presidency. You are making this election as dirty as it can possibly be. It took a black man to bring the presidential election to the lowest level it can get to and thats why we will never achieve anything if this is the only way we can win a race. You should be ashamed of yourself and you call yourself a christian. I know for sure that you are no christian or you would not be stepping so low in your attacks on a WOMAN. You and your people did the same thing to Hillary Clinton and now you have started on Palin.

All you Obama supporters are also the lowest you can be. I suppose you all have just dug yourselves out of your holes and so you don't know any better. When I read some of your blogs, I have to tell myself that these people are not real human beings. They are the most nasty, vindictive people around and if these are the kind of people who might be involved in running our presidency, then America has definitely lost its way. We have really lowered our standards on who can run for president.

Marlo Mazur   September 19th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

I really wish every one, on both sides would stop talking about Palin. She is no Hilary and she has already proven to be just another politcian by claiming to be a open book and now Macains people are trying to put a halt to the investigation of her abuse of power. I want to hear facts, what you plan on doing to help get our country out of the hole Bush put our country in. I think its sad that we are so quick to bail out ING and other companies, yet real people have been loosing thier homes for the last two years !!! Where was the emergency meetings for all those people ??? When was the last time Palin,Macain or any one of the Republcan party went to the store to find milks 4.00 a gallon or bread almost 3.00 ! Start keeping it real. As a women my concern is seeing other women having to choose to feed thier kids or pay the rent ! Start giving answers insteadof telling me how long it takes Palin to skin a dam deer!

Vote gender and further push this country in the ground   September 19th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

John McCain was brilliant for picking Sara Palin because he knows how STUPID WOMEN CAN BE. I'm and educated women who can think for myself and knows a hockey mom from Alaska can not be 2nd in command of the free world with no experience.

I'm all for women rights but I have two kids, was part of the PTA and doing all the budgeting for my family and I can Identify with Sara but in no way shape or form will I vote for her just because she is woman.

I want my daughters to have control of their own bodies, get equal pay for equal work and be looked upon as equals in this country.

Hillary is that woman and she says vote for Barack Obama and he has my vote.

Diane Dagenais Turbide   September 19th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Good evening,

not only does Obama knows what it was like to be raised by a single mother…he remembers it well and he still shows respect, dignity and pride! He can actually offer real solutions to advance womens living and prosperity conditions!

Allen   September 19th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Even if you don't know what Sen. Obama's positions of matters affecting women are, you do know how Sen. McCain treated his first wife and how he treated the women he had affairs with. Gov. Palin's positions on women's issues are pretty plain by her stands on social issues.

If I were a woman, I'd be doing my best to get Sen. Obama elected.

Kim   September 19th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Palin can see Alaska from her house and is 'Like Totally Ready to Lead' America with the old Dude.

REAL Change   September 19th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

WE will be the ones that have to live with a mistake used as a STRONG lesson to Obama if McCain/Palin get in the White House.

She will only care about herself, her family members, the woman in Alaska, she will move to Washington on OUR tax dollars, while we struggle to provide for our families while her and her family continue to live a lavish life on the tax payers dollars.

Be mad at Obama…that's fine….BUT really think about what you will be giving up for ALL woman.

Troy, I can't speak for other states but I'm from Virginia and I can promise the cities are going for Obama, it's when you get out in the sticks the racist redneck crowd with their confederate flags on their high rise pick 'em up trucks will be the problem. They would rather see the whole nation laid waste than vote for an African-American. Sad thing is THEY are the one's who would benefit the MOST from an Obama administration in the White House. Bigotry is a disease of the mind.

McCain supports Viagra being covered by health insurance but not the birth control pill…..

How can any woman in their right mind vote for him?

Obama/Biden '08

Judy   September 19th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

First; it appears that McCain is unaware of all the single mothers out there who are not getting one cent of child support. When that mother goes out to work she is the primary breadwinner for the home, for that woman to make less than a man (who may or may not be paying child support if he owes it) makes no sense. With the cost of goods going up more and more women are having to go to work, a person should be paid according to their work and not their sex.
Also; Palin should stop telling the public that Obama wanted sex education taught to kindergarden children; what he wanted was for these children to understand "good touching and bad touching" and for these children to know that it is ok to tell if someone is touching them in a bad way. For those who has never worked with a sexually abused child, this could be one of the most important things that a child in kindergarden could learn. The damage that is done to these children is something that lasts a lifetime and anything that can be done to pervent this EVERYONE should be for it rather than making it look like something dirty. SHAME ON YOU PALIN

sandee in Portland   September 19th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

I can't believe more women will vote for McCain over Obama. What has McCain ever done to further the rights of women in the 26 years he's been in office. I would also like to know where Arthur James got his facts on salaries in both offices. Instead of making statements that are unproven, cite where your information comes from. I love the fact check site. It has opened my eyes to many of the false statements not only given by people blogging but by the candidates as well. And, CNN thank you for adding your own fact check to the political ticker as well.

Womens rights? I guess you mean the right to have sex without having to worry about the obvious of what may happen. Hello? Baby? Hello? Having sex is how we reproduce so of course a baby can happen. And your answer for yourself and your daughter is killing the baby.
So let me get this straight. democrat stands for killing an unborn child (or born if you are on Obama's level of thinking), and sparing the life of a murderer who actually had a choice)

Wishful thinking by Obama to paint McCain as "anti-woman", when McCain PICKED A WOMAN FOR VP!!!

Empty vessels sound much! People (read elitists) who never really did anything, and probably never will, spend lots of time talking about change, vision, and other bs. Fight for our country, get hurt, never leave friends in distress and feel pain, then you will know what it feels like to serve this great country. People like McCain understand and fathom what is the meaning of change. People like him uses their career to make change – and there are others who want make their career by using "change" mantra. I have seen time and again, in every walk of life, there will be few people who will be working hard to get something done, and then there are some who will come, talk flashy, smile at people and pat the workers' back and takes the credit – so I know a phony when I see him. Bleed for the country and then come back and say "I love this country" – and then only it means something.
I have hope that American people will not be easily duped – please judge properly and vote – do not elect somebody based on just promise… see the track record and experience. In one interview, BO says he agrees with the students who did not want to join military and then in a sec he promises he will create a stronger America by inspiring and attracting the strongest students – and the interviewer asks how he can do that when he agreed other way.. then he started deviating from the point in question. It clearly shows that he wants to please every body and make everybody happy to get their vote and actually contradicts himself and stands for nothing – there I realized that he is a phoney, and not strong enough to stand up. Women, do you really want to vote for somebody like that?

The same man you support now, trashed your beloved Hillary Clinton. His tactics were downright dirty. And you dont care?

Carol O   September 19th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

I think Barack Obama should ask Biden to step down, as he is aggravating ohioans . And he should appoint Hillary to take his place.
This will give him a winning ticket for sure and give him back the Hillary voters to tie up this election ticket.
He made a mistake , about not appointing Hillary and he should step up to the plate, admit he was wrong and get her in there before it is too late.

Women who claim they love Hillary SO MUCH but are voting for McCain and Palin only shows your voting for gender. Obama mirrors Hillary on womens rights and many other issues. McCain and Palin will set you back 40 years. Before you cast your vote for the Republican ticket I suggest you do a little research on what rights you could possibly lose and also chek the economy, healthcare, Iraq, Afgan, eduction, etc.

Then if you feel Obama is sexist and only cares for himself then you cast your vote for the Republican ticket and try explaining to your daughter, sister, cousin, friend why the can't have control of their own body and make sure you tell them who you voted for.

Notice the GOP supporters who claim that mcCain gets America or is honest and is getting their vote cannot explain their decisions or back up their statements.

Obama supporters know why they're voting for him. His plans make sense to get us back on track. Anyone that thinks voting for the same old party that got us in this mess and are running a shameful campaign that discredits their own candidate's honor is fooling themselves.

Gail   September 19th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

I have always been an Obama supporter, so he didn't have to convince me.

It seems the GOP is accusing the Democratic party and Obama in particular of doing the exact things they are doing. I am very familiar with this behavior, it's what my abusive ex-husband used to do to me — accuse me of drinking up all my money, accuse me of running around, accuse me of gambling – all the while I was at home taking care of the kids and going to work. It was pretty ridiculous, as is McCain.

I don't see where Obama is lying or has ever lied. But the falsehoods of the GOP and McCain and Palin in particular are quite obvious and very easy to call them on. They just done seem very intelligent.

The Democratic Party is very united. Whereas the GOP seems to be coming apart at the seams.

If Florida goes to the republicans this time it just shows how much racisim is still alive in this state. We have alot of problems down here with the housing and job losing that the last thing I heard was there were thousands of south floridians especially in Broward County that have left due to these problems. They even had a shortage of teachers this year. How can anyone in these conditions go into a voting booth and vote for a republican that voted with Bush 92% of the time. I hope my husband understood we should go back to New York where we are from. People don't make that much money but housing has gone up and grocery and gas. How can we survive?

Obama is all love, equality, and unity. McCain is all about divisiveness, aggression, and inequality. It's so easy to see that. How can this be the land of the free if women aren't free to choose whether they want to give birth or not? As a white 37 year old single mom of 3 that just bought my first home two years ago – McCain/Palin scares the hell out of me. If they had their way, I would have more kids than I could handle, but that isn't their problem right? Birth control is apparently evil to many republicans, but at least I am still able to pay my own way since I only have three kids…

When I bought my house, I was barely getting a regular loan, which was amazing because I had been fixing my credit from the loser ex-husband since 2000. The day before I was to close – they re-ran my credit and discovered that I had recently gotten student loans in my attempt to finally get a degree. This bumped my credit score under the line and I ended up with an ARM. Two years later, I am stuck with this ARM even though I have never payed a mortgage payment late and will likely lose my house in the next year as the rates continue to climb.

Do I trust McCain to work in my best interest? NO.

No Way, No How, No MCCAIN.

Dear God, 'Woman in California': do you hear yourself? Is this how far this election has degenerated that it would cause you to say such a horrible thing?

People, stop and think. We're in a mess financially and whose fault is it? OURS. Every one of us who has been on a prolonged spending spree for decades, buying toys we don't need, houses we can't afford, and numbing our minds to what's going on around us. It's time to grow up, tighten our belts, and demand congress listens to us. But they can't listen if we're all wired to our i-pods and cellphones and paying no attention to what's going on.

Could we all be a little kinder to each other? These blogs are out of control. It isn't the Republicans or Democrats individually who have caused these problems, it's we the people who were too busy playing to take heed.

Independent, white female !   September 19th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Any smart woman who knows better, will vote for Obama. Obama grew up with a single mom and knows first hand how hard it is for women in our world. We women need someone who knows what women go through in this country to raise a family, to educate our children so that their futures are bright and prosperous. He worked his way to the top, he borrowed to educate himself, he watched his own mother and grandmother put food on the table and he knows how important it is for a woman to make her own choices. Woman of America, we are depending on your voices, your votes and your efforts to put Obama in the white house so he can fight for us to receive equal pay, to have the right to choose. Please women of America, let our voices be heard.

"Comparing Palin's experience to Obama's is not a valid argument."

True – Obama has less experience than Biden, less than McCain and less than Palin, Lets not pick too much on Obama – all he has is the vision given to him by Pelosi and Reid as a puppet.

Walmart mom for Obama, Washington State   September 19th, 2008 7:23 pm ET

Obama has my vote. I am a women and its shamefull to me that Mccain has voted against every equal pay for equal work bill. Its sad really. Oh and raising wages its sad. I am voting for Obama because we need smarts back in the whitehouse. Seeing all Clinton advisors with him today is smart, it shows me that he is thinking to put people who have been in that job. Smart man and he is ready to be President…

A Disgrunted Democrat   September 19th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

If the past is any example, with Hillary, Obama is just paying lip service where he has to, and telling other's like Palin comments about lipstick and pigs.

Any true woman worth her salt would see this remark for what it is, an Obomination of a man.

Sarah   September 19th, 2008 7:21 pm ET

I am an independent person. I don't understand why Americans do not reason for this election. Seems like they hate McCain and Palin simply because of Bush and they love Obama simply because he is opposite party member of Bush. I don't think they see person by person with reason. Wow, it's amazing that Americans don't think…

Cyrus K.   September 19th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Put your country first…..vote Obama/Biden!!

If you vote for Republicans, you can kiss your freedom goodbye, and prepare yourself and your kids to go to war on the Persian and Russian front.

"Obama knows what women want……NOT!
Every speech Obama gives he has to Bash McCain. If his message is what he thinks we want to hear, then he should stick to that and give us credit to make our own decision. His same old lines against McCain is getting very tired."

I was at the rally today and he didn't mention much of what McCain was spewing which was to blame Obama for the financial mess. McCain is a tired old man without ideas or vision and is just spewing nonsense and offering no solutions for a situation of deregulation that he supported for YEARS while he was in the Senate.

EDW   September 19th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

Fact is – McCain said the same thing at least 3 times since January:

"I still believe our fundamental underpinnings of our economy are strong."
-Sen. John McCain (1/23/08)

"I still believe the fundamentals of our economy are strong."
-Sen. John McCain (8/20/08)

"Our economy, I believe, still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong…"
-Sen. John McCain (9/15/08)

I am so sick of hearing Palin. And what is up with her refusual to cooperate with the investigation that was began before she was selected to be VP? Obama/Biden is the only serious choice, most educated and most relevant experience

Business cycle is always up and down. You can't blame on President Bush or Republican Administration. Obama knows that but still take advantage on this to mislead American people on McCain economy plans. That means Cheat, Lie, Fool. Who do you vote?

Obama is sounding wonderful and Joe's doing a terrific job. It's great that they can seperate and talk to different parts of the country. Unlike John and Sarah who have to stay together a little longer to prepare Sarah for the world outside of Alaska.

Obama would pitch himself to gravel if he thought that would win him the election. He is nothing more than a mirage. He has shown no vision and no plan except to win the White House. I don't feel the need for government to take even more of my money to spend it on government programs. I don't feel the need to let Obama tell me what to do or think. Vote McCain.

Clinton Supporter   September 19th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

With the looming specter of a McCain presidency, complete with likes of Sarah Palin, I am trying very hard to put aside my distrust and powerful aversion to this man.

After what he and his pal Howard Dean did to Hillary Clinton and by extension to every American woman, I had decided that I would either vote for McCain or just leave that slot blank on the ballot.

Now, when it's safe, he decides to try to win the women's vote. One thing is for sure, this guy is now on his own, no Hillary to vouch for him. The one thing he could have done would be to set aside his childish fear of actually working with Hillary to get things done.

If she were on the ticket, we wouldn't have Palin, and we WOULD have an unbeatable team. I like Biden, but as he himself admits, he's no Hillary Clinton.

I guess I, and the many women I know, have 44 days to make a decision. The lesser of two evils, as we chosen so many times before, or sit this one out?

I do know I cannot cast a vote for John McCain.

On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2.

If it is true it must be a last ditch effort to make a come back!

You people have lost your mind. WHY would you pay higher taxes? I just don't get it. Who cares about abortion, iraq, gasoline prices. Even in light of all those things, you think the solution is to raise taxes.

It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life.

You people rah rah rah for Obama to take more of your cash. Take $$ from the executives making 250k+ a year and they will raise their prices to offset their losses. The guy at the pizza shop? Oh man, my taxes went up, so I have to raise the slice of pizza by $.50 cents to pay my kids college tuition.

You people just don't get it. If you people want to help the government out, just ADD MORE $$ to your taxes when you file in April. But DO NOT force that on me!

Obama did more than give Hillary a nod. The Clintons had TWO days of the Dem Convention. He seated all of the delegates and let Michigan and Florida vote. He had a fundraiser for her. Obama has tried to meet the Hillary voters half way. They seem to think that their wishes are more important than Obama supporters wishes, and that's just not true, he won.

So I'm over it, I have accepted Hillary and Bill and I'm ready to move on. The McCain camp is floundering and it's time for us to speed forward, full throttle.

@Listen Up…

There is ONLY ONE REASON I am voting for McCain.

I HATE TAXES. You can talk about all the other crap, but Democrats want to raise taxes period. I don't care about anyone else but my pocketbook. You guys go ahead and pay for all the illegals, all the welfare folks, give losers health insurance who don't do squat all day.

Me, I want my hard earned money to come to ME. PERIOD. If you want to donate money to the government, just ADD IT TO YOUR TAXES WHEN YOU FILE. Do NOT force it on me.

So that is your answer.

Ya_Ya   September 19th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

I would hazard a guess that many of the republican women and those leaning towards Senator McCain are married, and typically more financially secure. That's great, and I'm happy for them, But for many of the rest of us, the safety nets just are not there, we're single right out of college, or single moms, or married but working poor, and 'little' things, like having say over our own bodies and our reproductive rights can mean the difference between our families surviving (or not).

I would not ask that you agree with my choice. Only that you allow ME to make it as I will be the one that has to live with ALL of the repercussions.

Barack has stepped up and met us half-way. I strongly feel that Hillary Clinton will play a significant role in the Democratic party and in an Obama administration, she will be as powerful as Nancy, and Joe, and Harry. I believe that with all my heart. I hope I'm not abused of that notion.

Hillary voter for Obama/Biden. Yes we can! (I pray and will work for…)

WOMEN WHO DON'T HAVE $100 MILLION DOLLARS OR AS LITTLE AS $5 MILLION TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES WILL VOTE OBAMA. WE ARE NOT WILLING TO MAKE THE MORE THAN RICH RICHER WHILE WE ARE STRUGGLING TO TAKE CARE OF OUR FAMILIES MOST BASIC NEEDS.

Sue   September 19th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

I don't buy that survey. No sincere Hillary Democrat will be swayed by the lies coming from Sarah Palin, for her disregard for womens' issues, for her lack of caring for her family (where is her precious baby while she and Todd are playing celebrity?) by her non-answers to simple questions, and now by her refusal to cooperate with what she said was a groundless investigation. We may be the same gender as she is, but the similarities stop there. We're tired of the blame games, the feeling that someone is above the law, and the willingness to bomb a perceived enemy. All wrong for America.

He can talk the talk, but women in Obama's senatorial offices make eight or nine thousand less than a year their male counterparts, while the women in McCain's senatorial offices actually are making about two or three thousand more a year than the men there.

These are facts, not opinions, and they do not support Obama's rhetoric.

Besides the fact that he blew his first big decision by not picking Hillary Clinton. For this, I have labeled him Barack Obrainless. And that is an opinion, albeit one that will be proven correct if he blows what should have been an easy win.

Griff   September 19th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

You can't Mister! You failed every: Woman on the Planet! You walked away from #1? Women…. What does a Women have to do, just to be recognised?? I Promised my little one; 29yrs ago.Now I have another! Howard   September 19th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

The American people get exactly what they vote for. If you like the way things are today, then for for McCain. If you support change, vote for Obama. remember, don't complain if you suffer another 4 year. you voted for more of the same!

kayla   September 19th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

i agree , mcsame picked pittbull for politcal purpose. not because he cares for women, but because he wants women votes. and we know that.

eugene   September 19th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

women would be crazy if they vote for a republican, look what we are going thru,my uncle informed me this morning that he has lost 50% of his pension because of this,am so sick in tired of these republicans who have to us down to the gutter, and am so amazed that mccain is still this close, now that is scarey because i dont know if this country can take another republican president, imagine if a democrat was president, the republicans will be calling for the death to the democrats,in the media will be doing the same, just like when 911 happend, the republicans came out of that as heroes,if clinton would have been president when 911 happened it would have destroyed the democratic party

Women have made such progress over the years! Government should not tell a woman what to do and it should not be inforced!(republicans). With so many people dying of STD's and HIV in this country and the world, what intelligent person would take the risk and oppose sex education. The world has changed so drastically! It's all about having common sense and helping to educate the world and our children as parents. Knowing the number of deaths that are occuring and pregnacies that are occuring, people should be more willing to educate others about all of the risks. As a parent, I would not want my young son having children at an early age. I would feel more secure knowing that there are resources out there that can be use to prevent unwanted pregancies and STD's as well as the killer, "HIV"

A Woman In California For Obama:   September 19th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

All I have to say is ANY woman who votes for Palin/McCain gets what they deserve. I hope their sons and daughters come home feet first.

Jill   September 19th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Notice how McCain looks more and more confused.

Pennsylvania   September 19th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

This woman is not impressed with Obama. I guess you could say that I am bitter, in the words of Mr Obama. I plan on voting for Mr McCain. He understand ordinary Pennsylvanians and Americans.

Tanya   September 19th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

Just got done visiting with my accountant. We both agree that a "Crash" of Wall Street is coming. Bush and the boys cleaned our retirements and 401K's out. They're going to waltz out of the WhiteHouse and leave someone else to clean up their mess.
What gets me is the number of people willing to elect the Party that got us where we are at today. We deserve everything that will be coming to us. My advise, stuff all your money in an old sock and bury it in the backyard. At least you'll be left with something!
We ARE dumb!

The secret to Democratic success can be summed up in one word: turnout. The GOP does really well because Republicans, by and large, always vote. The turnout rate usually runs anyhwere between 75 – 85% turnout of registered republicans. Dems tend to show up around 50-60% of the time. There are always more registered Dems than Repubs. Dems: you wanna win this one? Show up and vote.

r sisk, nevada   September 19th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

So let me get this straight. A majority of white women are supporting McCain over Obama? I find that hard to believe. Where are you doing the polling, Utah and Arizona?

paula   September 19th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

Thank you, President Obama.

wheres Hillary   September 19th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Is Hillary hiding? Where is she? And why is Hillary scared of Pailn? I want to hear from Hillary, where are you?

Brandon   September 19th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

this statement is major, "Change means a president who will stand up for choice, who understands that five men on the supreme court don’t know better than women and their families and their doctors about what’s best for their health,” he said. “I will never back down from defending a woman’s right to choose.”

that's how i want my leader to talk, i dont know about you…

Yeah but..   September 19th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

McCain is a POW… is a maverick… invented the dingleberry…

Joe Biden.

Obama\Biden 08—There is nothing else to say.

naomi, al   September 19th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Obama dosen't just need womens votes, CNN you always spinning something, hell he needs every vote every last vote. And where is Hillary she is kinda making me mad, I like Bill and Hillary but there not doing anything to help their party, forget about Obama help your party. And where is that big mouth Geraldine from California, I don't hear anything about them anymore and the election is Nov 4th. Democrat women get off your _sses! Its been time to speak out and talk about the issues that women are facing and that Pailn wont do anything about.

Obama #1   September 19th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Obama if you support equal pay, why do the women working on your campaign early 83 cents for every dollar a man earns? (FYI it's $1.03 for McCain staffers). If you cared about the women why did you run a sexists campaign against Hillary. If you respect women why did you belittle Governor Palin dissing her as a small town Mayor after she was announced and failing to acknowledge she is Governor of a state. Your actions speak much louder than your words!

forever3   September 19th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Obama knows what women want……NOT!
Every speech Obama gives he has to Bash McCain. If his message is what he thinks we want to hear, then he should stick to that and give us credit to make our own decision. His same old lines against McCain is getting very tired.

Angela   September 19th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Its about time Obama got out there and started working to earn our votes! Hillary is my candidate and will always be. Palin is certainly no Hillary, but at least McCain had the guts to pick a women for the job. It still bothers many of us women that Obama let his arrogance and pride get in the way to picking HIllary as VP. I still remember very clearly many of the condescending things he himself said directly to Hillary such as "… I can win your supoporters, but you cannot win mine." Very sexist and racist! His arrogance got in t he way of sound judgment- we have had more than enough of that with Bush , so I am not yet sold on Obama but at least he's FINALLY making an effort.

Values.   September 19th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Obama has had one wife that he loves, and two beautiful children.

Joe Biden lost his first wife ina terrible car accident, along with his daughter. He remarried and has a loving relationship with his family.

John McCain left his first wife for a prettier, wealthier one as soon as he realized he could slide right into politics after Vietnam. He doesn't bring her up and has never apologized for what he did.

Liz   September 19th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

As a woman Obama is our ONLY choice this year. The alternative is scary for me and my daughters.

Keith   September 19th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Obama's wasting his time. Real 'Merican wimmen eat raw moosemeat, breed pitbulls and call their husband "dood".

USA USA USA!!!!!!

John in DC   September 19th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

CNN,

Why add the last paragraph? Why not report the news and stop stirring things up. He didn't mention his grandmother in Kenya at all. What should we take away from that??

Listen Up...   September 19th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

I'm running out of reasons why anyone who vote for McCain, Iwpn't mention the "elephant". Unless it's:

1. Obsession with his POW story, want to hear it again and again.

2. Thinks he's hot, can't wait to hear him do the state of the union.

3. Likes the uncertainty of his memory, he's so unpredictable.

4.Keep hearing about that explosive temper and would like to see it in action—given 4 years at the white house something is bound to set him off.

5.Palin's voice is like nails on a chalkboard, love that sound!

6. Can make a killing in vegas betting which way he'll flip or flop.

Somebody help me please, I'm sure I forgot something.
