The irony of it all is McCain bragged to being fundamentally a deregulator as well as his fellow GOP/conservatives. With that in mind, the deregulations that have taken place since 1999 have made the US government the biggest player in business. Yes like it or not this is what a bailout means. Taxpayers own Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, let’s not forget Bear Stearns. Like it or not “taxpayer ownership” means nationalization. Oh no I didn’t say that. Yes I did, the truth makes you wonna wake up don’t it and they call DEMs socialist. I guess deregulation can’t keep the government out after all now can it?

Obama bin Ladin is no different...he's got ZERO ideas on how to run an economy!!! He's never even written a bill in his whole life!! Illionios Senior Senators had to write the bills for him and then gave them to him to put on the floor...he wrote NONE OF THEM.

HE's needs to go back and be a community organizer. Noone wants him around. He can go take his island in Hawaii and condescending attitude towards the American people...calling us STUPID at every turn...and shove across that Bridge to Nowhere...b/c that is exactly where he's headed. NOWHERE!!

To all who keep saying the adds are lies, some of the adds are about what Obama said when he was running against Hillary, he has changed his stand now, because the polls went down, so it seems like lies, but they really aren't.

Didn't anyone see or read the Suzie Orman interview with Larry King? She totally agreed with McCain that Cox did not do his job and should be fired. She also agreed that there is something wrong with short selling as it is now and that regulation needs to be in place. John McCain tried to get some action on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago and the deomocratic congress did not act. And by the way, isn't Biden a long standing member of the Senate Finance Committee? What was he doing during this time?
The mechanisms that we have are not working and McCain has offered some reasonable steps. Let's see if congress does its job.

CNN - thanks for "reporting" that McCain doesn't sound Presidential. I suppose Obama does when he tells his supporters to "get in their faces". Where's your "report" on his "Presidential" sounding comment?

Christopher Cox has made it clear awhile ago he is stepping down at the end of the Bush misadministration.

McCain cannot constitutionally fire Cox anyway. It's all McCain senility b.s.

McCain really really pooched the screw with his initial comment about the economy being fundamentally sound, and he has been pooching ever since trying to dig his way out (but only digging deeper).

Is this CNN or the Daily Kos? From reading the posts here, it's apparent that either 99% of CNN viewers are extremist liberals who can't get past their hate of all things Republican to even contemplate taking an objective view of this election, or CNN is filtering the comments so only liberals get to express their views. Either way, it's clear that CNN is playing to the extreme left in its reporting and coverage of the election. And it's the liberals who want to bring back the failed "Fairness Doctrine?" Apparently they don't think the leftist views of of CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and MSNBC are sufficient counter balance to FOX.

Well let's see what Barack's going to do.

First he'll wait til everbody else has spoken, then he'll critize what they say.

Then he'll offer (get this) an Economic Stimulus Package (how original) which means he's going to try and buy my vote with my own money, that I'll be earning in 4 or 5 years from now.

Go back to Kenya.

The American People reject you.

Fire Chris Cox and hire Phil Gramm???? Enlist totally unqualified Sarah Palin to be VP??? My God Americans, McCain would be a disaster for this country. I never voted for a Democrat for president (I'm 59 years old), but this year will be the first. I'm a Republican for Obama, a Veteran for Obama, and an American for Obama!

McCain actually said that if he were President HE would fire the SEC chairman. The president does not have the authority to fire the SEC chairman-just another detail McCain does not seem to know

John McCain scares me and seems out of touch with reality. Have you noticed that Cindy McCain is always with him? I think she is there to try to keep him from making a fool of himself or going ballistic or both. He is really out there spinning in his own little world.

C'mon CNN..try to be just a little less biased about how you moderate the ticker.

Seriously, you've got Obamatards outposting McCain backers at least 20-1. Kinda odd with a statistical tie in the polls.

It's either that or Obama has his crew spamming the ticker day and night until they get closed for comments, so normal people can't post meaningful thoguhts.

I have watched McCain in Senate years back then compared that with his speeches now. It is painfully obvious that he is suffering from some old age related problems. This is sad but true and he is being propped up by the Republicans. His choice in Sarah Palin further confirms this for me. She is one of the least qualified and uneducated candidates I have ever seen.
I am putting "Country First" and voting for Obama.

The bottom line is that greed caused this crisis, and we all allowed it to happen. The idea of making money by shaking back and forth has plagued us for far to long. Fire everyone on Wall St. and make them get real jobs. Let's see how they like the unemployment line. - Even better, let's find something that looks like the Bastille and line them all up in front of it.

If we do not learn from history, we are DOOMED to repeat it!

Does anybody remember the Lincoln Savings and Loan scandal from the 80's (SAME thing happening now) and the Keating Five??? I bet McCain does - he was one of the five. Most people learn from their mistakes, but he just keeps repeating them......over and over and over again.

Wake UP Americans so you don't repeat the same mistake by voting this crook into office!!

If McSame were serious about Wall Street greed, he would be calling on these fat-cat CEO's to fork over some of their absurd earnings to fund this fix! But no, they get to keep their money and the American tax payer will pay to fix this problem. UNREAL! The free market is broken!

Bill says:

The WSJ is pandering to its readership, just like the rest of the media does. Facts are irrelevant. The only difference is that the readership of the WSJ is seen to be the naked short sellers and other financial cowboys who have driven this crisis.

Sure, Bill. Sure they are. You'll find the typical reader of the WSJ chained to a tree, chanting kumbaya and eating granola. How's the weather in your own little world today?

News Flash:

Members of the SEC board, including the Chairperson, CANNOT be fired. I repeat, they CANNOT be fired because they are an independent body. The president CAN appoint members, but they (and read carefully) CANNOT be fired. John McCain doesn't know what the heck he's talking about.

McCain andhis cronnies are at fault for most of this mess! All the way back to his mess with the Keating 5 when he should have gone to jail!!! He has been head of the commerce commission and deregulated all the rules that were put in place after the crash of 1929 so his cronnies could get rich, rich, and richer and now look what has happened. McCain is the one who should be fired!!!!

McCain is right with that comment! Where has Chris Cox been through all this mess!?!? Hiding to avoid any criticism? Yep. The SEC's mission is to "protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation." Really, well, where have you been? Paulson is doing a heck of a job working to fix an unprecedented mess. Cox has stayed in the shadows like a coward.

It is time that the voters take a good look at the lack of grasp for the facts that Mr McCain reveals when he speaks about the economy. It is about time that the media should focus on real issues and not on "Lipsticks on a pig". Our nation is going thru dificult times, and there is a man who understands better that this old goat, who does not remember he is one of the ones who contributed to our economic situation being a "deregulator" as he proudly stated some months back, and now talks about the need to regulate more,Who is he trying to fool?. We should continue to speak about the promise for a better future that Mr Obama brings to this election.

Forget the political ads and save the money.......just let McCain and Palin keep talking. The slight lead for Obama will become a wide gap if McPalin doesn't get a cheat sheet on: 1) who are and are not our allies; 2) who are their leaders; 3) what is a solid foundation for an economy; 4) who the President can and cannot fire............ The list just keeps getting longer. I thought it was Palin who was going to get on-the-job training?

As Ann Coulter wrote...if Democrats were Smart, they would be Republican!

Wake Up people! The Dems have been in control of the House for the past 2 years...someone explain to me WHY they haven't done something?

Look up the definition of communism/socialism - that's what the ultra-left has to offer. If you want to live in a completely government-run and government regulated state, then go live in China or Cuba (to start).
Yes sometimes we do NEED more government to help deter the mess like we have today. But Obama WANTs more government to create a socialist state. There's a hug difference between wants and needs. HUGE.

"""Hillary Supporters for McCain""" Don't trust Wal-Street. They want another "green" politician in the White House so they can do whatever they want. Why do you think they are investing so heavily in Obama.Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Another blind republican with an IQ of their shoe size. And BTW, you were never a Hillary supporter. Another repug liar. Believe me, that is all that party can do well. Lie Lie Lie

Even the conservative, economic press sees through McCain's incompetence, and even reports it. Freedom of the press is a great thing!

He thinks Cox should be fired. He thinks Spain is part of Latin America. He thinks Iraq shares a border with Pakistan. How much more ignorance does this man have to display before the voting public gets it. Just because he's a war hero and he's been around a while, that doesn't make him presidential material.

Christopher Cox's job is ending anyway at the end of Bush's term...McCane CAN'T fire him because he'll be gone anyway...more talk and lies from the senile one!!!

Firing people at this point won't help the crisis anyway..you'd have to bring someone in and WAIT for them to formulate a plan and try to implement it...also forming a COMMITTEE doesn't work either because by the time they come up with solutions/actions, we'd be back in the STONE AGES....

McCain is very good and pointing and yelling out things without thinking about the full picture first...people talk about Obama not having a plan(which is a lie..he has laid out his plan and it's on his website), while McCain's camp said that they didn't have to have details right now and the plan will be released AFTER McCane gets into office...anyone that wants to vote blindly on hope/faith that McCain won't screw them over are fools!!!!!!!

Palin and McCain (and I put her name first on purpose) are pathetic and clueless. Thanks goodness the WSJ called McCain out. McCain admitted months ago he didn't know much about the economy and he is depending on losers like Carly Fiorina to help him along? Palin was a "dim light" political pick who will provide no support for McCain on the serious issues.

There is blood in the water - GO OBAMA/BIDEN!
