Bill Clinton says Dems shouldn't attack Palin

Bill Clinton said Dems shouldn't attack Palin.

Bill Clinton said Dems shouldn't attack Palin.

(CNN) - Bill Clinton said Monday the Democratic ticket should steer clear of launching personal attacks on Sarah Palin over her relatively thin resume, and instead acknowledge she was a "good choice" for the No. 2 spot on the GOP ticket.

"Why say, ever, anything bad about a person? Why don't we like them and celebrate them and be happy for her elevation to the ticket? And just say that she was a good choice for him and we disagree with them?" said Clinton, who faced repeated charges during the primary season he was overly negative toward Obama on the campaign trail.

Clinton's comments appear to echo advice Karl Rove gave to Barack Obama in his regular Wall Street Journal column last week, when the former Bush strategist noted attacking the VP candidate has rarely proven to be an effective strategy.

In one of the former president's few extended comments to date on Palin's surprise VP candidacy, Clinton also told reporters in New York Monday he knows why the Alaska governor is attracting massive crowds on the campaign trail.

"I come from Arkansas, I get why she's hot out there," Clinton told reporters in New York, according to the Associated Press. "Why she's doing well."

"People look at her, and they say, 'All those kids. Something that happens in everybody's family I'm glad she loves her daughter and she's not ashamed of her. Glad that girl's going around with her boyfriend. Glad they're going to get married,'" he said.

Referencing Palin's 5-month old child who has Down Syndrome, Clinton also said voters will think, "I like that little Down syndrome kid - one of them lives down the street, they're wonderful children.”

Earlier Monday, Clinton suggested his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, would have been a better political choice for the Democratic VP spot than Joe Biden.

β€œShe would have been the best politically, at least in the short run, because of her enormous support of the country,β€œ he said on the daytime talk show The View.

It's the same old mess! I respect Bill but Palin does not deserve to be placed in a bubble. She can't expect to be able to stand infront of thousands of people say whatever she wants and you can't touch her because she's a "girl". Bill and Hillary said, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. McCain said to Obama, if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. If anyone said that to Palin, it would be sexist. I'm a woman. If this woman wants my boat she better grow a pair and act like she wants it. And I think Bill is speaking with his other head.

And furthermore, he should have taken his own advice during the primaries. He had nothing but criticism for Obama on every level. He is clearly campaigning against Obama and in a not very subtle way.

I personally think that Bill is still a bit bitter and wants Obama to lose. Funny how he's backed off the "win handily" to the close race thing.

It does make sense because my momma always said if you can't say any thing nice then don't say anything at all. Maybe we should all think about that. Let her be the one who bad mouths people. Think of what that will look like. Very ugly and ugly is as ugly does.

If this is the best that the American political system can produce shame on America. Whats with a 72 year old war monger who will most likely die in office, a man who runs on being the first black president but is half white and flops around on issues like a fish on a dock, neither of these idiots should be the leader of the worlds most powerful country. Putin will make fools out of both of these clowns

    We hear you!

We aren't voting for they empty suit named Obama who plays the race card.

We saw the same crazed Obama supporters posting "Shillary", "Hillbilly" and calling Hillary a "liar" in every post. Must be the crazy kool-aid and poor parenting.

    McCain 2008
    Hillary 2012

Like any politicians, Palin deserves to be flogged and dragged across the finish lines.

it's a ritual that all politicians go through to wear the crown...

So get your caning stick out and give her your best shot πŸ™‚

Bill Clinton was elected POTUS (for real) twice. Something no other Dem has done for a very long time. I guarantee you Obama will never be elected POTUS twice.

You would think that all Dems would have at least some respect for Bill Clinton and his viewpoint, even if they do disagree with a viewpoint.

But, the left wing extremist fraction of the Dem party is so Out There, they are really on their own planet.
