Watch: Hillary Clinton talks about her perscription for healing the economy.

(CNN) — Hillary Clinton refused to speculate Tuesday whether the Democratic ticket would be doing better if she were the vice presidential candidate.

“I’m not going to hypothesize about something that didn’t happen,” Clinton told CNN’s John Roberts. “What I want to do is make sure voters understand the stark differences between our candidates and the Republican candidates.”

On Monday, former President Bill Clinton said his wife would have been “the best choice politically” for Barack Obama.

But his wife praised the Democratic nominee’s choice of Sen. Biden, emphasizing the Democrats are “much better prepared” than John McCain and Sarah Palin to take on the challenges facing the next administration.

Sharpening her criticism of the Bush administration Tuesday, Hillary Clinton said the current economic crisis could have been avoided had Wall Street been managed in a “more sensible way.”

“The great bulk of the responsibility rests with this administration, and with the ideology that the Republicans have been promoting since they took over the Congress in 1995,” said the New York senator.

Hey Billy Clinton, maybe you should pay attention to what your wife is doing during the game. She's got her bat and ball and she's ready to play for her team – hustling, diving, making all the right plays. All while you don't even know what team to root for!

My advice – play hard for your team, or don't play at all.

Hillary just doesn't want to leak that it's all arranged for Obama to dump Biden and bring her aboard as his VP candidate. Obama is a true sleazy jerk, willing to throw anybody under the bus for his own fame and resume and then have the gall to ask those people to come back and help him like he has done Hillary (and will do again).

Hillary would be a better president than a vp.
The DNC took her out of the running to make way for Obama.

Hillary/Palin 2012…baby……cross that lousy party line and hand one to the good old boys just because.

Show just how strong women are. We've been propping up the male egos for too long. And ladies, we all have the right to be pro-choice or pro-life. We each make the RIGHT decision. Stop beating up on Sarah. I really like her.
--------------------------
Let's not start this bleeding heart crap again girls, Hillary LOST, she was NOT cheated, she did NOT get mistreated by Obama OR the DNC and as for Olivia, it sounds like all you wanted was to get a woman in the Whitehouse for the sake of have a woman there, not because of her knowledge on the issues facing our country. That is truly sad and is one more reason why she lost. Country FIRST, radical feminist attitudes have no place in this election, understand?

Nina Deponca   September 23rd, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Any voter that is critically considering the Palin / McCain ticket will likely NOT BE IMIPRESSED by the fact that the GOP has arranged for a “window dressing” photo opportunities with some international leaders while they were in New York for a United Nations meeting.

Now, if Ms. Palin gives a major foreign policy speech and holds an open press conference after her meetings, we might hear something of substance that will favorably influence us to vote for her. Otherwise, please save the energy & oxygen that would be consumed by this spectacle.

I’ll be interested in the opinions of these international ministers … did Palin say anything of substance to them?

For example, we know that on Sunday, a British government minister referred to Sarah Palin as a “horrendous” choice as a leader on the world stage. If Governor Palin won’t talk to the US press, let the US press interview those she sat with! It’s the next best thing.

manhandler   September 23rd, 2008 12:22 pm ET

The Clintons don't like Obama, and justifiably so. They're supposed to be head over heels in love with them when his campaign accused them of racism? I think not. Hillary should be the nominee. not this other joker. Obviously the Clintons are only going to give him lukewarm support. McCain/Palin.

I'm a Clinton support that will be voting for Obama.

alot of people are having buyers remorse now things just keep on hitting that fan. I was at your rally in Albany, and I knew that you were the right person for the job of President not just because of gender, I am a male, but you have the chops for the job and all the credentials. It wasn't your falt as much as you were out snookered by a bunch of Liberals from Vermont and Chicago, that are dangerous for America. Well when this Crap Storm is over and Obama has nothing but his single term to cry about the HILLBILLIE Brigade will be ready for real change.

Hang in there Hillary New Yorkers still LUV U ;-) 2012

Irma in North Carolina   September 23rd, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Hillary you turned out okay, I wish you could get Bill turned around more. The Mccain people are up to some dirty tricks, first they will prepare the questions to be asked in the debate, so John will come out the winner. Look how it went in California, that tells you something right there. John and Cindy also have enough Money that they can buy this election. All the people voting for Mccain are hoping that he will kick the bucket while in there and then here comes Sarah, and we got four more years of Bush. But stop and think Johns mother is 96, so John could be around for a while. Sarah always says every thing is a task of God. When God performs the Task of taking these two out of the election. Then America can live in peace.

NewThinker   September 23rd, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Let the cooler head prevail. Obama has a cooler head than "hothead" McCain which enables Barack to think more clearly during crises. Furthermore, high technology is the future opportunity for good jobs in the U.S., not low wage non-technical service jobs. If McCain has not invested the time to learn PC basics, how in the heck can he be expected to lead the U.S. in an advancing high tech world? If he is not inclined to learn PC basics, how do you think he can be interested enough to learn, analyze, and help lead on issues such as high tech energy, genome research, and highly complex financial and economic issues to name a few? McCain is a war hero and a good man...but he is not the right man for what this country needs now. The choice is clear, VOTE Obama if you want to put "Country First" and put the U.S.A. back on track as the technical and innovative leader of the world economy.

Cindy in the Carolinas   September 23rd, 2008 12:19 pm ET

I guess the fact that Bush has asked Congress 17 times THIS YEAR that something needs to be done with Fannie & Freddie (which congress ignored of course) is lost on the Dems. Sorry folks, I hate to be a joykill here, but not everything can be blamed on Pres. Bush. He doens't run the country by himself. He just gets the blame when things go wrong, and never gets credit when it goes right.

I know, CNN will never post this because I don't worship His most High God Obama.

So remember that while your telling us how your not voting for him. Don't discount us either. He won fair and square – 18 Million Strong. And do you honestly think Hillary will ever get the black vote again after how she treated Barack? Because she will need them also.

W Spivey Merritt Island, FL   September 23rd, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Hillary, you just keep stumping for Obama like you promised. If not then you are washed up and we still need you in the Senate.

Andrew in VA   September 23rd, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Once again, Hillary cannot bring herself to say that she would not have been the best choice–implicitly questioning Obama's judgment in selecting Biden by declining to answer the question affirmatively that Biden was the best choice. And Bill, well, Bill is Bill, and no one could possibly be a better candidate than Bill or his wife. It is time for these destructive egomaniacs to recognize that the democratic party does not revolve around them.

Keeping our way of life safe and free is the most important issue . I enjoy the freedom off going to a friday night high school football game or the quick trips to the mts. or beach, there are so many little things that make our freedom in this country special. The safety of my family is the highest concern with me. Don't like many things about McCain, however. think he will protect me and my family above all else.

judy mitchell   September 23rd, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Obama has bigger plans for HRC. They have discussed it and it will be great. Cabinet Post more important than VP.

Cathy in MD   September 23rd, 2008 12:11 pm ET

I am/was not a big Hillary fan, but she is doing her best now to rally support for Obama and I am grateful for that. John Roberts was apparently doing his best, too - exactly what gives the media a bad name: to pin her down and pressure her into answering a ridiculously irrelevant and leading question, the answer to which has no bearing on our current dismal situation except to further enflame it. Stupid question, John Roberts.

Re: Bulldod,

You are sensible.
Everyone is now pointing fingers that Hillary should have been picked.
We all would have loved the idea of Hillary being the VP for Obama but there was too much danger in picking Hillary.

Remember when Hillary said McCain and Herself were more qualified to be commander in chief than Obama?
The Republicans were going to play this over and over and milk every little juice out of it.

Every would have been a good vp pick but she destroyed every chance.. she went too negative on Obama. Obama doesn't hate her, its just that she would have given too much ammunication to the GOP.

jm for sc   September 23rd, 2008 12:08 pm ET

No true Hillary supporter will ever vote for McCain. It would be wise if all Obama supporters ignore comments being made by republicans posing as previous democrats on the blogs. All the lies about the DNC selecting Obama are only being fueled by republicans, people making over 250k per year, racist people or fools. Obama was the winner ever since he gain over half the pledged delegates. (example: if there are 500 delegates and one person wins 251, the other can not catch up; ever)

The main thing needs to be done at this point is Hillary needs to ask her husband to keep his mouth close. Why shouldn't dems attack Palin, that's how she came out. Should we just sit back and let her do all the attacking and just roll over a play dead? Not in this life time.

Sen. Clinton is so impressive in so many levels; but this campaign is for president of the United States. she is no longer running; Sen. Obama is. I believe that the Dems will do a better job for the economy; they proved it in the 90's and they can prove it again. Sen. McCain I appreciate your service; your leadership and your choice of Gov. Palin. But with all due respect you beloeng to the GOP and that is the party responsible for the white house and the congress 10 out of the last 15 years. So as much as I would like to give you a break it is too hard for me to believe you alone (with Gov. Palin) will be able to change your own party...

Debby   September 23rd, 2008 12:08 pm ET

OH by far Hillary would have made a better Presidential candidate never mind VP. I am petrified of Biden's Gaffe's and that if something happens to Obama we have this hot head in the White House taking his place talking to foreign leaders. He is getting so insultive after the Obama campaign let him off their leash. Obama/Biden is nothing more than Bush/Cheney all over again except that we will get taxed to death with the Dem. ticket.

Luv ya Hill, we needed you and the media and Howard Dean ran you off the road, but we know you will be back in 2012, start to let the nation know that you are our voice in Congress. We your supporters will be ready there is NO WAY either Obama or McCain can make things anything but at best unchanged. They just don't have the TIMBER that we know you have. You would have given us the Leadership we need NOW.

Hillary is a smart woman but the media goons do not give her enough credit. You will not draw her into nonsense. Hillary recognize the importance of this election and she will fight tooth and nail if Obama was not trying to run a different kind of campaign but I gotta tell you; if Palin makes one more stupid comment regarding Hillary, I don't think Obama will be able to hold Hillary down.

I always thought that Bill was the real brains in the Clinton family. Now, I know that behind every great man is an even greater woman. Hillary lost her bid for president and I am sure it hurt, but she still stands up for what she believes in the (The Democratic Party and the concerns of the voters). She is supportive of Obama, because she recognizes that the issues facing America, jobs, healthcare, etc need fixing.

There is no way to compare Hillary to Palin, she (Hillary is more accomplished is all aspects of life compared to Sarah).

I supported Senator Clinton in the primary, and I am now fully behind the McCain/Palin ticket. I love Hillary and Bill, but I vote my conscience. The world in which we live is a dangerous one. Bottom line: I trust the former POW over the former community organizer. Make fun of me, call me a traitor, call me a racist, etc., etc., etc…I have heard it all before. Many times in fact. It has not changed my opinion one iota. I do not trust a first term senator whose only claim to fame is having run for president to guide us through the financial crisis. McCain is not much better, but I trust him to safeguard this country. I truly believe that McCain/Palin put "country first" while Obama puts "Obama first." There, I said it. Now, all you bloggers, 3 2 1 countdown…start the rants about how racist I am. That really helps your cause, doesn't it?

You aren't racist...simply ignorant of the facts and definitely un/misinformed take your pic. If you were truly a Hillary Supporter and now support the McCain/Palin ticket, it speaks to the fact that you were not voting for the principles for which she stood, but he the icon or the idea of a woman presisdent. If you are truly a Hillary supporter..the answer is simple. We cannot afford 4 more years of Republican ineptness. Hillary would want you to vote Democratic and for the pricinciples on which the party stands

Obama will "excuse" Biden in October for "not sharing the same dream" and ask Hillary to take the VP spot. Obama will then win in November with 70% of the vote.

Charlotte   September 23rd, 2008 11:59 am ET

Hillary needs to be Obamas' tutor for the debates. He sucks and she knows what she is talking about. What a different election this would be, if she were the nominee. Half the democrats think she was the best, half think Obama was. We would not be in a tie if she were the nominee, because she would have been smart enough to have him as #2....He is a #2 that is why the dems. are so fixated on Sarah. The Dems. #1 is less qualified then the GOPs # 2

CNN pushing the conservative agenda! Why everytime McCain's campaign throws a fit about the media do we suddenly get BS stories about Clinton VP talk and other non-news news. I might be mistaken but sudden increase in violence in Iraq and Aghanistan. Pakistan starting to look scarier. Economic crisis beyond measure. People looking for answers and CNN runs another (there have been at least a hundred) Clinton VP monday morning quarterbacking.

Hillary knows that Palin is under-qualified and truely a non-factor in this election. Hillary will not even share an event with her. I have to ask WHY CNN is giving Palin so much press for a SECONDARY candidate. Yesterday you had FOUR seperate stories about her. Not very news worthy. What WAS news worthy to me was my neighbor around the corner whose house went from FOR SALE to BANK OWNED yesterday. My nephew who has two little twin girls who lost his job and their livelihood three weeks ago. My best friend whose folks who are on a fixed income are faced with a medical crisis that could shorten their independent live styles. Please report important things about these candidates....not issues that will have NOT AFFECT us after Nov.4th.

If the Obama campaign keeps focusing on the Palin/Hillary thing they are going to lose! Palin is there to secure the Republican base .... to keep the women and men that they have already that may have gone over to Obama. And to draw the extreme religious right that wasn't so crazy about McCain back in.

McCain doesn't put country first. If McCain put country first, he wouldn't have picked Palin just to win over the woman vote. Common sense will tell you this.

McCain is a liar – and people in their right-mind can see that a McCain/Palin ticket is a ticket of disaster.

Matthew   September 23rd, 2008 11:51 am ET

The Democratic ticket would be doing better if Hillary were at the TOP of the ticket! She's doing great right now though. She's doing just enough to help Obama without putting her own reputation on the line. I suspect she didn't want to be his VP in the first place. She's perfectly positioned for 2012. Can't wait for the "I told you so's" on November 5.

Jackie in Dallas   September 23rd, 2008 11:50 am ET

The primaries are over, folks. The election is frighteningly near, and you are still focused on "might have beens" or "would have beens" when you should be focusing on what will be if you don't get your act together.

Second guessing Obama's VP choice, second guessing Hillary's reaction, second guessing all of the baloney is not helping matters. We have serious problems here, folks, and serious problems require serious responses. We have people who watch McCain and Palin being clueless and who still think that McCain is more "trustworthy to safeguard our country" because he puts Country First. Well, at least he does in his ads. If you don't stop being divisive, if you don't stop giving McCains corrupt campaign more ammo for his ads, then we will end up with four more years of losing our fundamental rights, watching more of our jobs go offshore, and our tax money being put directly in the pockets of the rich who have been systematically screwing us for eight years.

I'm not looking for someone who thinks he knows all the answers, I'm looking for someone who can FIND some, and therefore I'm voting for Obama, whether I personally like him or not. The consequences are too dire to stay mired in this petty discussion. Hillary sees that ....why can't you?

Palin has obviously energized the Republican base and look at the results.
So I ask you, Hillary supporters, what do you think would have happened if Hillary was the VP choice? We're talking about the most hated woman in the republican party. Republicans would be coming out of the woodwork to vote against that ticket. And they'd use everything she said about Obama during the primary against them now. That's why Obama could not have picked her. It just wouldn't have worked. For those looking for her to run in 2012, I ask where is she going to get the money and how is she going to pay off her current debt. I don't see it happening.

Hillary answered the question with grace and tact I believe. I like Hillary better now that she is not running in the primaries. I think she would have made a great president, but the problem was, she didn't sell herself the right way and surrounded herself with an inept group of people. If Hillary had not run at all or had run a better campaign, I think she would have made a great vp and would have sealed the deal for the Democrats.

Was a democrat–go ahead and vote for McCain/Palin, and conveniently forget the fact that McCain is a walking corpse, and will likely suffer another life threatening health issue, which would put Palin in the driver seat–she does not have the experience to deal with the financial meltdown, terrorism, Russian agression, or any other thing that will come her way. Sorry, but gotta agree with Bill Maher on t his one: "She's a category 5 moron".

Obama/Biden at least will have the experience and intelligence to handle all aspects of leading this nation, and they are not only excellent negotiators, but excellent listeners, and they both skilled navigators when it comes to politics. McCain and Palin don't hold a candle to the democratic ticket, and with Hillary in a cabinet position, they will really have all the marbles in their hands.

bob in L.A.   September 23rd, 2008 11:42 am ET

Hillary would have been a great pick- Biden is better. First off, comments like todays about the Obamam ad can be writtenoff by Biden for his unbridled candor, where as Clinton would have been accused of deriding the ticket/
International experience is a strong point of Biden's and he will be invaluable to Obama abroad.
Cheney was invaluable to Bush to help put more wealth in the pockets of his very wealthy friends and therefore was a great fundraiser

Sarah Palin is being treated like a "Princess" compare to Hillary Clinton. It is a fact that Hillary Clinton is more intelligent than Sarah Palin. I admire Hillary way before her political days. It all started when she gave her college speech and as a member of prosecuting team during the Watergate Era.

Here is my take on this whole Biden/Hillary deal.
In order to avoid the Republican attack on Hillary and Bills past, Obama selected Biden to be the front boy until just before the election, at which time Biden will voluntarily step down and Hillary will voluntarily step in to steal the election.
Sounds lilke a pipe dream, but what if it were possible?

Obamacan   September 23rd, 2008 11:35 am ET

Here what I would like the Clintons to explain to the Democratic base. Why aren't they campaigning for Obama? Expecially, President Clinton?

It seems to me that Bill does not support Obama at all. If you want to know why my ex-party has won 7 of the last 10 general elections, just sit down and watch the cable news from 4:00pm to 10:00pm. From the republican, you see well articulated Governor and Senator making the case for McBush with nothing more than lies and distortion. On the other hand, I don't recall the last time I saw Hillary or Bill or for that matter anyone other than Governor Richarson articulating the case for Obama.

Take it from this ex-republican, if this trend continue, Obama stands a very good chance of losing the election.

This people (Bill, Hillary, and all of the governor) needs to go upthere and make the case for Obama.

Where are the governors from PA, MI, NJ and the list goes on....and on..

Only Hillary and Obama know what was said in that first meeting they had after Obama won the nomination. If Hillary truely did not want to be VP unless Obama pushed or tried to press it on her, then I find that very impressive that Obama most likely gave her the first chance at the position, but once she declined the offer he started vetting other people for the position. Of course the Presidence would of been a shoe in with Hillary, but Obama was the bigger man for accepting her decision of the offer and is going on with the race.

TexasVet   September 23rd, 2008 11:31 am ET

Seriously I wish Bill and Hillary would just sit the rest of this one out. They've been working feverishly behind the scenes to derail Obama's chances by sending they're elitists friends into the enemy camp. Now they're on every available news outlet talking about THEMSELVES and and endorsing McCain/Palin not OBAMA. Talk about selfish TURNCOATS. This Election is not about the CLINTON LEGACY it's about our COUNTRY. I guess since Obama and Biden aren't apart of the $100 miliion dollar good ol boys club they didn't make the cut.

Voters fall for the clever tag lines, like "Voluntary Compliance.." That's the Bush Administration's clever tag lines for "No Enforcement of Regulations."

Get government out of the way of free markets and off the backs of business? Ok, how's that working out for us? The FDA doesn't inspect products so much anymore or monitor what's being imported. We count on "Voluntary Compliance." So, pets are dying from melamine in their food and children are suffering from excessive lead content in their blood due to lead painted toys and jewelry from China.

That's just a couple of the results of "Voluntary Compliance." Another one is the trillion dollar bailout of banks and AIG. But there are a lot of other federal agencies that are not protecting consumers: Mine Safety, EPA, etc.

Voters: think about what those clever phrases mean before you buy a pig in a poke.

brooksey   September 23rd, 2008 11:29 am ET

I am totally finished with Bill Clinton. He is really not supporting Obama, just look at his body language and the choice of words he uses when talking about Obama. His spirit is deeply wounded by Hillary's lost, as well as Hillary is probably going to divorce him as soon as this election is over and she heads back to the Senate. I can see the writing on the wall. Hillary know that it is because of Bill that she lost out of the Presidential seat as well as being selected for VP. Hillary this is a shout out especially for you, make your own decisions about your life without the help from Bill because it is clear that he dont want you to achieve what he has acheived because if you do, he wont have anything to hold over your head. You dont need him to validate your life and get where you want to go. You can do it as soon as you realize to move him off the front burner

Joseph   September 23rd, 2008 11:29 am ET

I am glad she is not the VP. not because I don't like her, but I would like to her in the cabinet, or putting her full attention into health care reform. I would love to have her be president after the Obama tour is over should he win. It was funny during the primaries their differences were very small. She would pick up where Obama left off and I know the country would be in good hands for another 8 years

Democrat for McCain/Clinton/Palin   September 23rd, 2008 11:29 am ET

Hillary HAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTEEEES Barack Obama!

Can it be anymore clearer that Hillary and Bill think Obama is such a terrible choice for the Democratic party. Other than her duty to say good things for her party candidate at the DNC. The Clintons have said more positive things about McCain/Palin then Obama.

It's clear to this HIllary supporter. I can hold my nose and vote for McCain. He at least is in the middle on most issues. Then in 2012 Democrats will make the right decision.

But there is no way, no how, that I will vote Obama. He is a terrible leader, a terrible politician, and a terrible representation of what an American role model should be.

strong   September 23rd, 2008 11:28 am ET

As usual Hillary is saying all the "right" things. It's called protocol, a nice word for BS.
But you can only wonder what she is really thinking, if she told the 100% truth. Anyways, she would have been better than that old, stale Biden guy.

Independent   September 23rd, 2008 11:28 am ET

Hilary would have been a political pick, Biden was a governing pick. This is why I am supporting Obama/Biden. Together they are ready...the other team just does not cut it. McCain clearly made a political pick and the country is in too much distress for that right now.

Hillary   September 23rd, 2008 11:27 am ET

Why should Hillary keep campaigning for Obama. She should not have had to in the first place. You Obama supporters have some nerve to keep complaining that Hillary is not doing enough, especially after the way all of you treated her and talked about her so terrible. Obama needs everyone to hold his hand and give him the Presidency on a silver platter. All he wants to do is have big gala affairs and act like he is the chosen one.

Hillary you disappoint me that you caved in to the dem. party and let them push you around like they are. You could do anything in life you want – even become an independent. Let Obama shift for himself. Who cares if he just has one house and one car – his is working on getting more you can bet on that.

Annie   September 23rd, 2008 11:27 am ET

I would have voted for the Democratic nominee this time around no matter Obama or Clinton. I just felt we needed to change direction. However, there was a story (it must have been on CNN, since that's all I watch during the day) after Obama won the primary race where it was said Bill Clinton would not be vetted by Obama's team for his wife to be considered. Something about donations to his foundation. At the time I figured that would end talk of her being picked. Nothing else was ever said or written anywhere. Just was wondering if this was the case.

LB   September 23rd, 2008 11:27 am ET

Hillary knows she will play a key role in Obama's administration and have a prominent position in his cabinet .....the Democrats have a very strong base right now in compared to the Republicans.......after all if Palin what the pick of the crop.....I rest my case........

Samilton   September 23rd, 2008 11:26 am ET

Bill Clinton doesn't want Senator Obama to be President of this free world. Why would he discuss VP picks (Clinton a better choice than Biden) during the election. The man has no wisdom. We are to put the American people first, and not our pride or our will. Senator Obama is an intelligent, wise, knowledgeable man. He knows who he can work with to get the job done. Obviously, it wasn't Hillary! My God let it go.

Bill Clinton's actions is a good indication that Senator Obama made the right choice. It's not about just winning, but having the right people in office to bring about the change needed in this season of our country's condition.

Please, somebody tell the man to step aside and let it go!

Joe Regis   September 23rd, 2008 11:26 am ET

Picking Hilary Clilnton as VP would have energized the Republican base just as much or more than McCain's selection of Palin. She had very high negatives that would have been exploited unmercifully by the Republicans. That would have been unfair but that's how the right runs their campaigns it seems.

Failing to acknowledge that Mrs. Clinton would have been more effective than Bidon is sheer blinkered stupidity. Hillary cannot in all honesty come out and acknowledge this as it would destroy Obama's credibility and all those democrats on here who think otherwise are in total denial. Obama's choice hardly exemplifies an agent of real change as he claims to be. It seems that Bill is more honest with his views.

Wow, CNN really is incapable of leaving this alone. When are you going to realize there is NO STORY here? You are abandoning all journalistic principles by trying to manufacture a story out of sensational motives. This is really disgusting and upsetting because CNN has long been my main source of news. Unfortunately this has been gradually changing all year, as I've watched CNN go way, way out of their way to stir up things that don't exist, simply for the drama factor. It is sickening and the news needs to be the NEWS, not a reality TV show geared to drive up profit margins for greedy shareholders.

The real reason Hillary was not chosen as VP is because Obama did not want to subject his campaign to scrutiny to the Clinton's donors for their library in Little Rock and Bill's financial relationship with the President of Kazakhstan.

bert   September 23rd, 2008 11:07 am ET

I don't think it is called socialism when you want to watch over a 700 billion dollar loan guarantee. It's called good business. The government has very little to do with money in this country other than enforcing the rules of it, but Obama's finacial plan makes since and would benefit all American's. Vote for Obama 08 and 2012.

James From Chicago   September 23rd, 2008 11:07 am ET

Is it me or am I crazy, but the difference between Palin & Clinton
is night and day. Palin cannot hold to a candle to Clinton.

Obama/Biden 08

Keith   September 23rd, 2008 11:06 am ET

Looking at how well it's gone for the McCain camp, Obama would have been better to have chosen Paris Hilton over Hillary! Then we could have dueling pitbulls in lipstick...

Jon   September 23rd, 2008 11:05 am ET

The media is struggling. They've got Hillary Clinton on TV for an interview, and all they can do is try to get her to act upset that she wasn't chosen for VP. This isn't TRL, and it isn't Entertainment Tonight. These people are in charge of very serious things, like the current financial crisis, but all the media wants from them are soundbites and insults. What a nightmare.

Sarah   September 23rd, 2008 11:02 am ET

I am an independent person in terms of politics but support Republicans' ideas however Hillary Clinton is an exception. She is a woman of grace with leadership. Hope she may have a chance to become a USA president near future.

Jeff   September 23rd, 2008 11:02 am ET

That's a silly question for reporters to ask. What is she supposed to say "Would democrats be doing better with her on the ticket." Probably but that's beside the point. Biden's great, Obama's............Obama. She still thinks she'd be the stronger candidate and probably that's true. I've just never been an Obama supporter, but what am I supposed to do, vote for McRich and McHick, who I fear will win anyway?

RealityKing   September 23rd, 2008 11:01 am ET

Hillary's biggest mistake was telling Bill Clinton that she'd marry him if he bought her a house..

Barrack Obama won the nomination. He chose Joe Biden who has the expertise to be the president. I am so dissappointed in the way the Clinton's are acting. It is so obvious they are already looking towards 2012.

Democrats....a party divided....I LOVE IT!!   September 23rd, 2008 10:59 am ET

Democrats will LOSE this election solely on the fact that they can't get along with Republicans OR EACH OTHER!!!! Biden and Obama don't even know each other and Biden will not let the Obama camp slam one of his best friends.....McCAIN........it's fun to watch you democrats having a meltdown within your own party!!!!!!

LoooseyGooosey   September 23rd, 2008 10:59 am ET

Poor Hillary... But hey, she did know what Bill was capable of and chose to stay the course anyway. Maybe she'll get the Presidency in her next life.., and Sarah Palin's bueaty too.

rachel   September 23rd, 2008 10:58 am ET

Hillary has raised money for Obama(5 mill reportedly). She has campiagned in Nevad, Ohio, Florida, California, and new mexico. Backed out of a rally out of respect of how it would look had senator Obama or Biden not been their. She has a call to action going for Obama, yet people still complain. Obama has barely lifted a finger to help with her debt(the little oh yeah hillary needs money at the begining of june was worthless) While Hillary is doing all this for Obama, I am waiting for Obama to do something for Hillary, the little convention primetime for Hill and Bill did more help for him than her or bill. CNN post dont leave in moderation.

If the american people would wake and stop aligning themselves with a party this country would be better off. They don't do anything unless there parties are going to benefit from there actions or there donor's for that matter...SO WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!

SHE CAN KEEP HER HEAD ABOVE WATER AND DO THE COUNTRY FAIR, I'M SURE.

Rudy NYC   September 23rd, 2008 10:56 am ET

The context of what Bill Clinton stated is a little more than what is in the article. He stated at the time of the convention, Hillary would have been the best political choice "over the short term". He then drew a line and pointed out that Biden just might be the best choice for the next administration.

He noted that Biden has strengths that Hillary lacks. While the short goal is to win the election. Bill noted the long term goal is to serve the people in the best way possible.

JD in NC   September 23rd, 2008 10:56 am ET

If Clinton were on the ticket they Republicans wouldn't need to use Palin to rile up their base. The right hates her so bad they could've gone with a centrist and locked down both the far right AND the independents.

NObama

Lyle   September 23rd, 2008 10:55 am ET

Sadly, the real question should be whether or not Mrs. Clinton should have been the Democratic nominee. After Mr. Obama loses in November, he will desperately try to point the finger of blame at Mrs. Clinton but his efforts will fail. Clearly, Mr. Obama is no more electable today than he was during the primaries and ultimately, Mrs. Clinton and her supporters will be proven correct in that she was the only electable Democratic candidate.

Mr. Obama will lose because he is too liberal, too divisive, too tainted and simply wrong for America and he has no one to blame but himself.

Both Clintons are people of honor. They are both trustworthy and loyal to their party, and they prefer a Democrat in the White House before a Repug. I think Obama and Michelle would also have done a good work to ensure party unity, and I think the CLintons did good work.

Hillary in 2012 McCain in 2008   September 23rd, 2008 10:52 am ET

In these very turbulent and dangerous times, let's install an interim President – John McCain – for the next four years so our nation can come together and heal. We all trust John; he is honorable, honest, able to work with anyone, and will reach across the aisle to do what is best for America in his 4 years as President. He is also battled tested and experienced in international affairs and can protect us. I say give John the next 4 years, and then let's put Hillary in the White House in 2012. McCain is a horrible Senator. He's spent his years involved in Keating Five, Vicki Iseman, Donald Diamond. Regardless of whether Hillary was VP, we should keep our eye on the ball. A white house filled with McCain and Palin will absolutely suck the life out of our country. We cannot afford this sort of buffoonery as leadship. Tubby the Tuba, actually what Bill Clintons' second person opinion was, was that Senator Hillary Clinton did not want to be the VP, but would of course have answered yes if called upon. A slight nuance.

Not that it mattters to me. If I am to listen to Former President Bill Clinton all I would like him to speak to is what matters today – the significant crisis we are in and the very important upcoming election.

Bulldog   September 23rd, 2008 10:48 am ET

Hillary would have been the focus of HORRIBLE attacks from the GOP if she was picked as VP. If you think Sarah Palin is being treated harshly that is nothing compared to what the GOP would have done to Hillary. Make no mistake about it.

GET REAL.   September 23rd, 2008 10:48 am ET

I wish she'd be more aggressive in her campaigning for Obama. She appears fully ready to support the Democratic Party (and I believe her), but this time, she wouldn't even say Obama's name.

Noah   September 23rd, 2008 10:47 am ET

The obvious answer here is yes, Obama would probably be running away with a victory had he chosen Hillary. But again we see that he did not have the judgement to pick her. He is going to lose this election regardless because his radical views are becoming more and more clear. This guy is the most liberal of all the senators and America is a Center-Right country. Joyce, nj   September 23rd, 2008 10:46 am ET

i like the fact that hilary is focused on the important issues such as defining the differences between obama and mccain.
that really should be the focus.

i'd like to see barrack toughen up but not go too low in negativity. that's just not what he is about. what made many people support him is his integrity and wisdom he'd shown throughout the course of these campaign. that's the startling difference between obama and mccain. it's ironic how it is hilary who seems to be the one highlighting that more than anyone else.

barrack, at this friday's debate, toughen up but don't go dirty low. don't play into popular politics. talk from your heart as you have always done. show what it would be like to have a leader who has a good heart for the american people. if you have the people's interest at heart alone, you would govern to their best interest.
the complete opposite of this administration

Trish   September 23rd, 2008 10:46 am ET

I agree with Hillary. The current Administration could have avoided this crisis had they put more of their attention on Economic and less on the Iraq War which has eaten Trillions of American Dollars!

This election season has been so nasty. It is so interesting the things that people say to and about each other on these blogs. I am sure no one has the nerve to talk to his/her neighbor as rudely as he does hiding behind a keyboard. I thought I was exhausted after the Bush/Gore election. This election takes the cake. The majority of us have a candidate that we chose for whatever reason/reasons. Can't we all just be adults and let that be that? It's just that anyone who chooses to vote for McCain/Palin is a complete idiot.(just kidding, ha ha ha)

Senator Biden is smart, down to earth and a people person and proves that he is a regular human being......who is not programmed to repeat the same old junk over and over like the McPalin ticket.
Hillary did well, but she is not the nominee and that was Senator Obama's choice......great one at that.

Yes, I hope that all women realize the stark differences between Hillary and Sarah. Huge differences! How can you look in the mirror as a woman and vote for McCain/Palin. How can Sarah Palin as a strong woman even stand next to John McCain knowing how he has voted against women for years!

I also wanted to throw out a little factual information directed towards all those that continue to say that Obama has taken so much money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Take a look at the "real" numbers people, and you see a whole different story!

The New York Times has published a separate list looking at contributions from "directors, officers, and lobbyists for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac" for the 2008 campaign cycle. That list — using figures from the Federal Election Commission — shows McCain receiving $169,000, while Obama received only $16,000.

And these numbers are from the FEC

J from DC   September 23rd, 2008 10:42 am ET

I love HilIary. She is good. But have to say, I am a little thrown back by Sara Palin. She keeps saying everyday that she wants to bring transparency and reform to Washington. But she does not even have transparency in her own state. She has “instructed” her staff people (who work for her) not to answer subpoenas for the investigation on the trooper case. Citizens of Alaska have inquired about the issue, they want transparency. Now the small case has reached public interest and the rest of the public is now being ignored. Palin is saying that the investigation is now political. But, that happens when you are in office. The other side will ask question and try to shade light on any flaw they see. It is up to her to show that there is nothing to the allegations. If she won’t be transparent on that issue, I don’t think she will be transparent on any serious concerns the American people may have if she gets in office. For undecided voters, she is not being very transparent right now.

Tubby The Tuba   September 23rd, 2008 10:42 am ET

Oops! CNN left out the fact that Bill Clinton, on The View, stated that his wife Hillary DID NOT want the position of VP. He said she ran to be President, but would have taken the position if Obama had coerced her. That would be an important point to add to this article so that it is balanced and truthful.

WASP Member!!!   September 23rd, 2008 10:42 am ET

Palin is lying and Alaskans are upset that the McCain campaign are now running the Governors’ office. Everything is now being run by the McCain Campaign. Staffers are answering funds. Your tax dollars are being used to answer the phones for Palin's family members.

Why is the information below being revealed on CNN???

Edward O'Callaghan, who until recently was co-chief of the terrorism and national security unit of the U.S. attorney's office in New York, and a former Palin spokeswoman now working for the national campaign, accused Monegan of a "rogue mentality" and "outright insubordination." They said he had flown to Washington, D.C., without Palin's approval to lobby for more police funding.

Democratic leaders, incensed that outsiders were attacking a respected former state official, produced a travel document Friday showing that in fact Monegan had a signed authorization from the governor's chief of staff before making what the Palin camp had called an "unauthorized" lobbying trip.

Let us move forward. you can not keeping going back to the old story trying to stir up things. We can keep wondering what might have been, could have been.

Dave   September 23rd, 2008 10:41 am ET

Remarkably, I think Hillary Clinton has become a better politician than her husband. Bill Clinton seems to have lost that filter between his brain and mouth and just lets anything come out. Hillary, on the other hand, realizes that if she acts like she harbors any resentment against Obama for not picking her as his VP candidate, it will lead to big headlines and energize the wingnut PUMAS. At any rate, I don't think Sen. Clinton would have accepted the no. 2 spot, and I think controlling Bill Clinton would have been a nightmare for Sen. Obama.

Shari, NY   September 23rd, 2008 10:41 am ET

Mrs. Clinton is being diplomatic but I would really like her to encourage her congressional followers to put their full weight behind Sen. Obama. Many of them seem to be still in mourning and I do wonder about their party affiliation. Some minds are diverted towards aiding third world sufferers, but how on earth can America help if America is broken?

Bob Indianapolis, IN   September 23rd, 2008 10:41 am ET

Watching Bubba on Letterman was a REAL revelation! He mentioned her name 5 or 6 times and Obama's name once. Wow!

Hillary just doesn't want to leak that it's all arranged for Obama to dump Biden and bring her aboard as his VP candidate.
