Daley slams new McCain ad

CNN

Watch: The McCain campaigns latest ad takes aim at Obama's hometown political figures.

(CNN) – Former Commerce Secretary Bill Daley, the unwilling co-star of a Monday attack ad from John McCain's campaign, told CNN he was "shocked" by the spot: "I always had a good relationship with [McCain] - or I thought I did."

The McCain spot attacks Barack Obama for his connection to "Chicago politics," pointing to his relationships with convicted developer Tony Rezko, embattled Governor Rod Blagojevich - and Daley.

Daley accused McCain of hypocrisy for attacking Obama on lobbyists: "When I was at [telecom company] SBC, I had to hire [McCain campaign manager] Rick Davis to see John McCain," he said. "He wouldn't see anyone unless you hired one of his lobbyist friends. Telecom was his and Rick Davis was his telecom lobbyist. That was in '02, '03, '04."

He said that McCain voted for his confirmation as Commerce Secretary, and pointed to the Arizona senator's public praise of his work in the Clinton cabinet.

(For instance, during a May 1998 confirmation hearing for another Commerce official, McCain said that since Daley's arrival, "relations for the department have been improving. Mr. Daley's frank, honest style and hard work have been reaping rewards." And in 2000, he pointed to Daley's "valiant effort to clean up the Commerce Department's reputation as a dumping ground for the politically connected.")

Said Daley Monday: "I think [McCain] has totally sold his soul to get elected. The things he found important in 2000 he isn't doing now."

"I think [McCain] has totally sold his soul to get elected."

This is the best quote I've seen to accurately describe McCain. McCain killed the Maverick. He's just a Rove neo-con now.

This is the first time in my life that I have lived in a state that is not considered solid blue. (We are in MN). I have never seen so many attack ads (98% of them from JOHN McCAIN).
I am appalled by this and tired of it. Senator McCain, how desperate and pathetic a man you are to be this low? I have yet to see you put forth a positive message about yourself in any ad. Only attack ads. This joke needs to be exposed now. You are not about putting Country First, you are only about putting Me (John McCain) First.
Disgraceful!!! You will never have my vote.

CNN – do some research before posting your articles. Bill Daley is not the former mayor of Chicago. He's never been the mayor of Chicago. Check your facts!

Why do the evangelicals still support someone that is a constant liar? Isn't this in direct contrast to their beliefs?

McCain's ad simply pointed out that Obama is a career politician like his Chicago friends. It points out that he is not a Washington outsider and he has never stood for change in his political life. He has always towed the party lines and never stood up to another Democrat. It is also true.

McCain is a fool and will do anything to get elected. What I don't understand is how anyone can vote for someone who has a lot of mistrust in his campaign. If he want let stupid Palin fend for herself then how will she or would she be able to tackle hard crisis with the campaign. I just don't get it. People you need to look at what McCain is doing and make sure you want this lobbyist in the White House.

Daley needs to tell the country the truth about Obama, what he did/did not do for his "community organizer" (thug) slot in Chicago. You will note the crime rate, the slums, the illiteracy, the poverty are all just as bad as before Obama was on the scene. In other words, he did not organize anything - just got paid for pushing people around for political purposes.

Confused is McCain and confused he will remain. He does not rememebr what he has said yesterday, his age and health condition are catching on him. Tamper is called psychological desequilibruim and it is a serious issue to be taken into consideration when time comes for a vote.

Another fine example of McCain's campaign shooting themselves in the foot.

What a bunch of clowns. Why would anyone vote for the guy leading, or allegedly leading, this group of yahoos?

People of Ohio,Penn, Minn, Nev and Virg don't be taken in. they will try anything so that all the republican did in 8 years don't come out.

    Don't vote against your self-interest.

Clearly, John McCain version 2008 is not the same candidate as was John McCain in 2000. The Bush campaign threw unbelievable political smut at him in 2000. The fact that he was a victim of such a disgusting and reprehensible political strategy back then, and is now willing to throw the same kind of slime as a part of his own campaign now, truly amazes me. It has convinced me that McCain, regardless of what he was in his POW days, is no man of character now. He does not deserve our votes, he deserves our condemnation.

it's about time someone told the real truth about mccain.

It something I have been saying since he won the repugs' nomination. Mccain is dishonorable and pathetic. He lies, denies and criticizes.

Mccain and his pitbull has betrayed the trust of all American people because they will do anything to win

People keep saying McCain has lost is soul. You forget he is 72 years old and his mind is in rapid decline. Factor this in that even when he was younger he could best be defined as a mental midget as his D grades prove. Have you heard he was a POW!
