The New York Times has revealed Senator John McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis was paid nearly $2 million to serve as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. As president of the Homeownership Alliance, Davis earned more than $30,000 a month for five years to beat back regulatory challenges as they began buying riskier mortgages with implicit federal backing.

Economists estimate that the $700 billion bailout will cost every American $2,300. ABC News reports the bailout comes less than a year after Wall Street’s five biggest firms—Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley—paid a record $39 billion in bonuses to themselves. Those 2007 bonuses were paid even though the shareholders in those firms last year collectively lost about $74 billion in stock declines. The bonuses paid by these five firms averaged over $200,000 per employee.

Good job, Republicans!

And for you from 4:31,
If Palin has so much more experience, why haven't we seen it?
I mean, she gave a great speech at the convention (a good portion of it misleading) and then she gave the same speech out on the stump.

Now, if you mean experience in terms of
avoiding investigations
refusing to allow her spouse to testify under subpoena
looking to ban library books
firing people who won't fire people she doesn't like
stabbing her freinds and colleauges in the back with mistruths

then yes, she does have more expreience than Obama.

But, seriously, if she had experience, would she have had to ask for meetings with foreign leaders? Really, would she have been able to take the same track Obama did and get the same welcome (from Iraq where their leader endorsed Obama's timeline
to Afghanistan where their leader welcomed Obama's approach to the war in his country
to Jordan where their leader was so impressed that he personally drove Obama to the airport
to Isreal where every one of their senior leaders met with Obama and felt he was wonderful for them, including those who felt it was good for him to get teh Palenstian side of things (unlike McCain)
to Palestine where their leader enjoyed a brief meeting
to Germany where ANgela Merkel had glossy eyes for Obama and 200,000 showed up to cheer him on
to France where their President called Obama "his friend"
to London where Gordon Brown took Obama to a place where only dignitaries in very special situations get to go?
Nope? Well, then Palin doesn't have Obama's experience. Sorry, try again.

Senator John McCain has been campaigning to stop “multi-million dollar payouts to CEOs who have broken the public trust.” But on Monday, when asked on The Today Show about the compensation package that his senior economic adviser Carly Fiorina received after she was fired from Hewlett-Packard, McCain took a different stand.

Meredith Vieira, The Today Show: “But she left with a—I think it was a $45 million golden parachute, while 20,000 of her employees were laid off. She is an example of exactly the kind of person you say is at the root of the problem.”

McCain: “I don’t think so.”

Vieira: “The CEO—how can you say that?”

McCain: “Because I think she did a good job as CEO in many respects. I don’t know the details of her compensation package, but she’s one of many advisers that I have.”

Vieira: “But she did get a $45 million golden parachute after being fired, while 20,000 of her employees were laid off.”

The Republican controlled Congress is sending America down the toilet. Oh wait a second....The democrats control Congress.
If Obama wins, God help us all. Change is on the way. Remember, "change" is a neutral term. It can also be bad.

SHUT UP ...SHUT UP YOU PATHETIC REPUBLICANS! ! !

If you only had the decency to own up to all the problems caused during your watch. We could actually respect you for being "American enough" to admit the incompetence.

Most importantly, if I hear "socialist rule" from another one of you piss ants, I'm going to sign up to impeach the "shrub" in office. We are now contemplating $700 bn worth of "socialism" to save companies from "fat cat" decisions.

Listen you republicans don't have to go away mad. Just GO AWAY

Haven't you figured it out yet? It is not the party people belong to that is causing all of the problems; it is the career politicians. No person in their right mind would want to be president....So we are left with nothing but greedy egomaniacs with too much money and not enough sense to fight their way out of a paper bag. The founding fathers of our once great nation must be rolling in their graves. I say: kick them all out and give us the average Joes and Josephines. They would do a much better job for the country because they would be representing their family, friends, neighbors and peers. The political jokers probably do not even know their neighbors.

If you think the excessive spending increases of 2001-2006 under Republican control of both Congress and the Presidency were awful, wait until Obama and a heavily Dem congress take hold. Fact is that there has never been a President that has stood up to a Congress of his own party. Obama will be no different. The difference is that Obama will not have the luxury of a 10% annual increase in tax revenues that occurred between 2003 and 2006. Think the deficits are huge now - just wait.

McCain himself said he was weak on the economy. His memory is weak too. He doesn't even know how many homes or cars he owns. He can not remember that Spain is in Europe. America do not allow this amnesiac into the White House. VOTE OBAMA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Democrats idea of compromise in Congress is adding pork barrel spending to every bill that they don't like rather than cutting something else to help burden the cost.

So much for discretionary spending...

"If we didn't bring it to the floor, it obviously doesn't have enough welfare funds in it.! "

"Trickle down Economics, cronyism, greed , and Americans spending beyond their means has brought the Nation to it's knees.

Say "NO" to this bailout! It's another case of the rich guy helping his friends. Wall Street and these banks deserve to crumble. HEY PAULSON LOANING MONEY OUT IS WHAT GOT US IN THIS MESS, MORON!

I might not agree with Ron Paul much but he's dead on with this crisis.
Bailing out failures will lead to more failure.

"OUR TRUTHS HURT SO MUCH WE LIVE TO DENY REALITY UNTIL WE WAKE UP TO A FALLEN NATION"- :)

I hope it works out this way in November. Because what I really want after that is to see investigations and plenty of them. Aimed at exposing the magnitude of the mess that the Republicans have made. Scores of thousands dead so that Haliburton could be given non competitive government contracts. The economy in melt down because a Republican adminsitration can't bring it self to regulate its rich friends. Hopefully convictions to follow. The more the better. Republican is a synonym for criminal and we need to mover forwardc with that undersxtanding. Pay back time soon.

I will take socialism over dictatorship ever time.

The republicans did nothing when they had all three branches of Gov. for 6 yrs. and are doing all they can now to make sure the Democrats can't do anything either.

It takes 2/3 majority to over ride a veto/filibuster.

I say give us Obama/Biden and 2/3 majority and let the Republicans go home for the next 16 yrs.

I bet we would have one of if not the best 16 yrs in our history if we can get the voters to see that Obama/Biden and only Democrats is the way for us all to progress.

Sounds like the Repulican party has become quite intimidated now that they have met their match in the newly coalesced Democratic party; the Repulicans may truly realize facing their fear of political ruin - just like the Whigs. It's time to run this country with reason, not with fear and emotion.

It may also be because it's a CNN poll. They think they can't change their web page without another gloomy comment to put up about Republicans. Maybe they could just have a standard headline of "Yea Democrats!!!". Nobody believes their crap.

CNN - do you actually get paid for your not-so-transparent support of Obama and the Democrats? If not, then you should. Your left-leaning reporting is repulsive and completely violative of the basic tenets of journalism. Shame on you.

It was Congress that caused this mess. In fact it was the Democrats who blocked the reform that probably would have avoided this to begin with. Who is going to be brave enough in the media to report that? My guess, no major network.

It's never good to have a super majority along with the white house.

Republican or Democrat majority is bad...there are no checks to stop the extremest in each party from forcing everything through.

History has shown this time and time again.

I believe that we will have a GOP white house with a DEM congress. History also shows that voters favor this also.

The problem we've had for the last eight years has blame on both sides. While Bush has been president, his real failure is in his inability to work with democrats who have blocked most of what he has tried to do through filibustering. Democrats share the blame here, especially their role in Fannie/Freddie which are the root causes of the financial crisis. The best intentions of trying to get people into housing who can't really afford it has failed - those are democrat policies, and when McCain tried in 2005 to address it he was blocked, by democrats. Meanwhile, Dodd, Obama, and other democrats (primarily) have gotten rich off of Freddie and Fannie.

Real change will come from voting for McCain/Palin. They have the record of working against all involved, both their own party and the other. Obama's idea of change will simply be more democrat policies, like Fannie/Freddie and running on "change" platform and then selecting a VP who has been in the Senate longer than the person he is running against. There is no change there, only more of the same partisanship that has gotten us into this mess.

Debby, do yourself and all of us a favor, please. Google veto proof majority and filibuster. The do nothing congress is doing nothing because they can't, not because they won't. Every time I read these posts I come across someone who obviously doesn't know how congress works. Yet, they get to vote. Educate yourself, please.

A BIG VICTORY IN NOVEMBER FOR McCAIN/PALIN-2008. This country needs to be protected from some very wicked people; the President needs to know how to do this. As far as the economy, this has been out of line for years during the Clinton, Bush, and Bush, the U.S. congress both democrats and republicans have set up there in the capitol and squabbled for years. They have not worked for the people of this country. The President sits in the White House waiting for them to back up the consitiution of the U>S>. This situation can not be blamed on one person, one party, but all--all--have been involved in the stagment of the govenment. When did exports start going out more than imports? Tell the truth, and why do you hate women who has a brain and does not mind you knowing about it? Get real or is the body all you are concerned about in a woman? "Straight Talk", the American are not dumb, and we want to make decisions where our children go to school and we want to be in controll of our lives, and to make decisions for ourselves rather the government giving up a limited amount of toilet paper to use during the day. You may want socialism, not me! What are you afraid of?

The Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square -

Oh my Nightingale. You sure are bitter. Maybe Obama was right when he said people get bitter. You certainly are provijng him right. But rather than turning to your religion or guns it appears you have turned to a sharp and nasty tongue. A bitter sharped tongue nasty female. Oh my, what could be worse?

So Biden and Obama called women pigs. Scratching my head here as I don't recall either one calling women pigs. Now if you were referring to McCain who has called his wife a c--- and who picks a female to be his running mate in order to "use" her, then I would think that McCain might be closer to thinking women are pigs than either Biden or Obama.

Talk about using labels. You state you are patriotic and infer others who may not pay taxes unpatriotic. So you use labels too don't you?

No need to go on here. Can't discuss anything using common sense or objectivity with a patriotic sharped tongue nasty female. Take some time off Nightingale. My goodness you need it.

Hard to believe that the Democrats have controlled both houses of Congress the last two years and yet people want to blame the Republicans. I guess the Democrats have just done a better job of lying.

Get real or is the body all you are concerned in a woman? "Straight Talk", the American are not dumb, and we want to make decisions where our children go to school and we want to be in controll of our lives, and to make decisions for ourselves rather the government giving up a limited amount of toilet paper to use during the day. You may want socialism, not me! What are you afraid of?

McCain is the only one who really cares about the latin community. Obama CANNOT be trusted, he is liberal who is afraid to reveal who he is really about, he refuses to take a stand on anyting - and he wont be able to help any poor people -- is it really patriotic to pay more taxes? Hello, Biden barely gives to charity (what a hypocrite), I give more than he does (and I make alot less than him), what a SHAME. Conservatives by far give more money to charity.

Oh and here is my opinion on Palin's meeting with the Afghan Leader:

This is such a joke that it's not even funny anymore. Yesterday, Wolf Blitzer stated in the situation room that Sarah Palin was getting a crash course in foreign policy tomorrow. Today she has. The very comment about her getting a "crash course." is troubling. Does America want to have a VP in the White house who needs to bone up on foreign affairs just 47 days before a general election? Come on!

It's no wonder why McCain wanted to keep reporters out of the meeting! He knows that she does not know what the heck is going on around the world other than getting snippets off CNN world news! The dumb-ing down of America was in full effect today!

While in minority, these same Republicans have created record-breaking filibusters of ANY Congress in history. Thanks, but no thanks.

Again, eight is enough.

if every democrat won their state senate seat by one point. It wouldnt matter if they had a 51% or 99% vote. They would still have 100% of the seats.

The dems are going to crush the republicans finally and get the country back on track!

Say no to the party of deregulation, party of lies, party of pandering, party of no compromise!

get rid of republicans!
