Obama/Biden are the ONLY hope this country has of survival!!!
The republicans will absolutely destroy what ever is left and move to Dubi!!

pamela   September 23rd, 2008 12:26 pm ET

just checked the quinnipiac/wall street journal poll, and it's the senator from Illinois, not the senator from Arizona, whose up by four there. So the poll number is right on the ticker, but the copy isn't.

Americans tired of democrat owned congress ruining gas prices (how you can blame republicans is ridiculous) and democrats have had oversight of market committee for two years now and you are blaming republicans for the metldown?

CNN WRONG ON QUINNIPIAC POLL

It is Obama who is leading in Colorada and not McCain. Please correct that error at your website!

The following sentence at your website about the Quinnipiac poll is false:

"while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado."

Colorado   September 23rd, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I live in Colorado....I will change that 4 point lead McCain has here. Obama baby

willowood   September 23rd, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Senator Obama does not have all the answers, but I feel he is the best person for the job between these two candidates. There is no person in the world truly qualified to lead a nation. Not one country has been perfect. The unfortunate reality is he will not win because he is black. That is the long and short of it. I hope that all black Americans, white, Asian, and Latino, run to the polls to insure this does not happen. Because if not ,as diverse as this country becomes, when an Asian or Latino runs, we will have the same backlash.
The Republican party should be shown the door for all reasons. Lets hope we AMERICANS keep it open long enough to vote them out. Skin pigment should never enter into our minds when measuring a person for any reason..

Hey Scott L.   September 23rd, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Hey buddy, I blame republicans because they have been the party in power for the last 8 years and 6 out of 8 of those years they ran the congress as well. Pretty simple isn't it. Blaming the Dems is like blaming the dentist because he had to pull one of your teeth because U didn't brush them for 6 years. It makes no sense!

Wisconsin will in no way turn red!!   September 23rd, 2008 12:24 pm ET

I agree with "Florida will not be red".........Obama WILL WIN as long as his votes are actually all counted.

Wisconsin will in no way shape or form turn red this year, unless we are the state picked this time for the cheat.

Yeah Feingold!! Yeah Obama!! Yeah Biden!!

"" Add in the enthusiasm for Barack Obama's historic candidacy ""

By historic, are you referring to the fact that this is the first time that the DNC has put forward a candidate that has absolutely NO experience?

Also, some of you "paid" dim-ocrat bloggers forget to mention that newly registered young voters are the LEAST likely to actually go vote on election day.

janis - Missouri   September 23rd, 2008 12:23 pm ET

I am a democrat, but did my research on both candidates. I am going to have to vote for McCain. Google is much more informative than our news media. Also, check out newspapers in other countries. For starters, try Googling these:

Google "Obama Bernadine"
Google "Obama Frank Davis"
Google "Obama Khalid al-Mansour"
Google "Obama Donald Warden"
Google "Obama Mohammed Hasan Chandoo"
Google "Obama Rezko"
Google "Obama Saul Alinski"
Google "Obama Wright"
Google "Obama Pfleger"
Google "Obama Khalidi"
Google "Obama Malcolm X"
Google "Obama Percy Sutton"
Google "Obama Alwaleed bin Talal"

Google "Obama Woods Fund"
Google "Obama socialist"
Google "Ayers bomb soldier dance"

As a Coloradan I am confident that Obama will win the state of Colorado. Even in my neighborhood with is approximately 80% Republican the enthusiasm for McCain/Palin is low while general enthusiam for Obama/Biden high. Voter registration is high, the youth vote and cell phone only voters are not being properly accounted for. From all indications I think there is a large margin of error here and I believe Obama to be further ahead in the state of Colorado more than the polls would indicate. I don't think it is as close as people would think playing the numbers game.

This artificial crisis in the markets is a joke, a play by the Democrats and Obama's friend Paulson to swing the election. How much of Paulson's 500 million is invested in Wall Street? What about Schumers money, and Dodd's money, and Pelosi's? Now it's a crisis because they might lose something, they ignored these problems for 2 years as the American people begged them for help. This is nothing more than a"let them eat cake" solution. No bail out, nothing they say tells me a bail out will help our economy any more thatn letting the free market work it out will.Paulson's excuse that it is just too complicated for him to give any details is ridiculous.

First time voter   September 23rd, 2008 12:22 pm ET

I just became a US citizen and wanted to vote but I am not sure any more. This election opened my eyes to American politics and I am really worried about the message the republicans are sending. The ideal that one has to vote for someone just like them is mind boggling; this is what has left countries in Africa in dictatorship. When average Joes get into power it is destruction and trust me being there, done that. People should vote for leaders who are qualified and I mean smart people. I am no fun of Obama either because he is not laying out realistic solutions that can be achieved in four years. I have voted for a black and white candidates so race is not an issue, either can be corrupt.

What has McCain done for Veterans in 26 years in office?
Why has McCain sided with Bush 90% of the time!
Why wont Sarah Palin talk to the media?
Why has Palin refused to allow press around her 1 day crash course on foreign policy?
Why do PUMA's think Hillary will win in 2012 without the 40% fo the party vote? Hate to break it to ya PUMA's but the Black vote will go away for Hillary and McCain or Palin will win the 2012 election......and you ask yourselves why.....the African Americans will not vote Clinton after being screwed over...food for thought.
Why are current Militray members 3-1 for Obama over McCain?
Why are 50% of Americans so stupid to be hit over the head a thrid time?

carol   September 23rd, 2008 12:19 pm ET

The polls are all well and good and they do look really good for Senator Obama.......but the young voters are never counted in on those......cell phones etc etc.
These young people who have more sense than a lot of their Republican parents can see what is truly important in this years election.
They aren't stuck on race, must vote Republican at all costs.....no, they are smart young people who will finally turn this country around.
These young voters can be really proud of themselves and can really say " COUNTRY FIRST", not just as slogan but what COUNTRY FIRST really means.

JC   September 23rd, 2008 12:18 pm ET

I wouldn't be holding my breath for earth-shattering numbers of college students and first time voters flocking to the polls. There is a reason why they poll "likely" voters. If it happens, that is wonderful – the more people who vote, the better it is for a democracy.

The fact that Obama doesn't have a comfortable double-digit lead at this point is still a point of concern. Democrat nominees almost always have a huge lead heading into the final month of the election.

Bill   September 23rd, 2008 12:18 pm ET

When you factor in Obama's registration drive for new voters and those younger new voters with only a cell phone then Obama is going to have a substantial lead in all these states – doesn't look too good for McCain does it?

scott   September 23rd, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Nice to see things are continuing on the up and up for Obama. Hopefully he can help rescue us from the tail spin the Republicans have put this country in.

If Obama is such the "Messiah", why is he not way ahead of McCain? The reason being is that alot of voters do not trust Obama and that's why he is not pulling way ahead of McCain. Obama, I feel does not have the experience to be president and I think he is going to bring America down to a level which would like living in a third world country. I feel that there is alot of hysteria over this man but there is no substance to him.

In the midst of the Wall Street crisis, Obama is saying he is going to wait to see what the administration comes up with. Tell me Obama supporters, where is the leadership here? Is he always going to wait to see what the other side is doing before he makes a decision. We might be all dead by the time he makes up his mind about anything. I don't call that leadership, I call that a follower. He does not know how to lead and you people want him to be elected president. I hope when the phone rings at 3:00 am he does not want to answer it because he has to wait to see if anyone else will answer the phone for him because he cannot make that decision himself. If you think this is leadership, then I suppose America should now be considered a third world country because we no longer have any decisive leaders in our administration.

Shay   September 23rd, 2008 12:16 pm ET

The reason for not having a double digit lead is that people cannot go beyond skin color

THE AUDACITY OF HOPE

In the Bible, first we have hope and faith tailgates hope. If we do not have a hope, there is no room for faith. Faith stands on the platform of hope. Hope is not visible, but faith grows out of hope to be visible. Hope is the root where faith is the tree. If there is no root, there cannot be a tree. So also, if there is no hope, there cannot be faith. If someone says that he has faith, ask him what his hope is. If he stumbles for an answer, he does not have Bible faith. Faith is the proof for hope.

America is drowning and has an overall crisis at hand that is in desperatate need of a life preserver.

Does it really matter if an African American has the life preserver?

America is smart

But are they Bold enough to grab the life preserver and not drown.

Stop the madness. We don't need polls. Polls are only there to tell us how we SHOULD vote.

I have a suggestion: Dems, in the next election we can invalidate polls by simply saying we are voting Republican. When the polls show 99% for the republican candidates they will STOP doing this.

Remember when ALL exit polls said Gore took Florida????? Only one network didn't call it for him....."Who could it be???? Whooooo could it beee..... SATAN?"

Why do we need to know how trends are headed? Remember a week ago: Minnesota is NOW firmly in McCain's column. WHAT HAPPENED???????????????????????????????????????

sm   September 23rd, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Throughout this campaign Obama has been talking about

"THE URGENCY OF NOW"

It is now clear what he really meant.
He means You must all vote for him ( The Messiah ) NOW !!!

Anything else does not matter.

Well, there is an URGENT need for action NOW with the financial crisis.

To date NO Action PLAN from Obama.
All he is doing is pointing fingures and BLAMING everybody else.

No an IOTA of Leadership and Judgement.

In fact he is always caught COLD FOOTED in srisis situations.

Obama bin Biden.................... NO WAY !!!

Olivia   September 23rd, 2008 12:14 pm ET

These are interesting numbers, despite the race factor which would be reducing Obama numbers by a 6 points had he been a typical white man runing for president. The gap is not as wide as it would be expected because racism is still very American . Yet Obama being ahead with narrow margings may be underestimated due to young/new voters usually not polled. However, do not "missunderestimate" McCain and the white rural vote. I hope that people would drop their prejudices and fears and vote on the issues.

BTW, CNN needs to correct the title and content of this piece regarging Colorado.

To Scott L   September 23rd, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Are you kidding me?! Are you honestly trying to say that Democrats have caused all of the current problems in the last 2 years? The overriding Republican philosophy of government for the last 30+ years has been smaller governemnt and less regulation. What has happened in the last 8 years? Enron, Worldcom, Arthur Anderson, skyrocketing oil/gas, the housing debacle, Fannie & Freddie, Lehman, and on and on and on. I'm sorry man, but it's the Republicans that are bringing this country down. If you really think the Democrats caused all of this in the last 2 years, you are a complete idiot.

Why hasn't McCain have a double digit lead? For him to have so much experience and white, how come he is not leading? Obama is doing quite good despite the polls of how race will hurt him. Second, the ap/yahoo poll on race has been discredited by the columbia university/usa today poll on race which is released today. that is why polls should be interpreted with caution.

Polls are useless in this day and age when they don't include cell phone... I don't know anyone under the age of 30 with a land line. These polls are asking people who a. have land lines and b. are willing to answer some pollers questions... this points to an older crowd. Obama's younger voting block is not even being tapped for polling, which makes them hopelessly inaccurate. Come November people will find that Obama will win by a wider margin that is reflected in these polls.

I find it extremely misleading CNN reports it's "Poll of Polls" to have no sampling error. This gives the impression that the numbers they report are thus exact.

What they are in fact doing is just averaging a group of other polls. An average is what it is, an average. All the polls have sampling errors - averaging them together does not eliminate those errors, it is merely an attempt to balance them.

Also highly objectionable - these short blurbs about the candidates accusations about each others positions...the "find out the facts after the jump" bits. Many people will not "jump", they'll just read the opening, reinforcing the falsehoods CNN is purportedly trying to disseminate. How about tell us the facts before the jump, so that you're not just reinforcing more of the same garbage.

Anybody hear how Palin’s ‘World Leadership by Osmosis’ session went today?

Linda from Minnesota   September 23rd, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Well, I can tell you it is not that close in Minnesota. Last night the local news said Obama was ahead of McCain in Minnesota by 8 points.
We Minnesotans are not stupid enough to vote for 4 more years of Bush policies.

Thanks But No Thanks   September 23rd, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Scott L- you are compeletely delusional. The democrats have had a one vote (Lieberman) majority in the senate, and a majority in the house too small to override a veto. It is about time that the republicans are held accountable for the mess in this country. The problem with the financial markets today is due to lack of regulation, and that has been due to the republicans. The democrats are as we speak trying to include some oversight into this bailout program and are being stonewalled by this administration. Please pull your head out of whereever it is and open your eyes

Jeannie   September 23rd, 2008 12:08 pm ET

I like the polls. CNN and others do a lot of work to keep us updated. Keep at it! I do believe Obama will win by a larger margin than is indicated. I think people want change, and I believe the American people are better than racism.. we've come too far to turn back to the archaic thinking of someone like Palin.

first time colorado voter   September 23rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

No way McSame is leading in Colorado. The sentiment on the ground here is obama all the way. Double-check your polling.

David from Ohio   September 23rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Factcheck:

I think CNN has made a mistake with regards to the new poll from Quinnipiac. Their poll has given the edge to Senator Obama in Colorado: 49 to 45 over Senator McCain. Their polls have Senator Obama leading Senator McCain in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, although margin is small.

One thing you are right about: this election is going to be a wild ride.

Are you serious   September 23rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

JUST IN!!!!!!!! PALIN WON'T LET REPORTERS TAG ALONE WITH HER AS SHE GETS "foreign policy" EXPERIENCE. LOL............... MCCAIN'S TICKET IS AWFUL

Charles W. Skinner   September 23rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Problem design with a lot of these polls is that they tend to over-represent urban areas and under-represent more rural areas. It' s not something that can be balanced out with a standard poll. This over-representation of urban areas (which generally lean democrat) gives a roughly +3% boost to Sen. Obama which doesn't really exist. Over-representation of Miami-Dade County in FL, Pittsburgh in PA and Akron or Toledo in OH could easily give these results.

Add that to the +/-4.5% margin of error with the small sample sizes that the pollsters have been using for "registered voters" (a sample size of 500), and you have a real problem in terms of getting anything useful out of this.

In order to properly cross-reference to determine if the balance has been made correctly, you actually have to look at the geography of the polls. Without that, most of this polling is worthless.

Obama = Positive Change, Growth, Maturation.....

seth, minnesota   September 23rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

In Minnesota, Obama is ahead by 8 points, according to Rasmussen. 52-44.

What's the discrepency? I know polling is a tricky business, but I'd be curious to see which way Minnesota is trending. Minnesota has been solidly Obama all summer by 5+ points, then suddenly in one week it's tied, according to a few select polls.

Bad news for Obama here. He needs to be 5 pts in the polls to win the state come Nov. 4th. New poll out today states many Clinton supporters are still anti-Obama. Without Hillary voters Obama has no chance. Doesn't look good for the dems. McCain 08!

MikeH   September 23rd, 2008 12:06 pm ET

OOPS! CNN caught screwing up the poll data yet again.

Obama is ahead in Colorado. But CNN wants to give the impression their boy McCain is doing well in the polls so they "make a mistake" and have McCain ahead in Colorado. And they won't fix the mistake and will leave this 'error' posted.

CNN, you really ought to clean house and get rid of all those Republican operatives working there under false pretense.

Philip Joseph   September 23rd, 2008 12:05 pm ET

CNN–you have one of the polls wrong! Obama, not McCain, is up by 4 in Colorado according to the latest Quinnipiac poll in that state. Check out the Quinnipiac site: http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x4140.xml and check out realclear politics as well.

Hmm, lets see, vote for the guy that LIES constantly and has to have a factcheck.org disclaimer attached to every thing he or his lapdog VP pick say, Has the very people at fault for the economic crisis as his economic advisors, along with the gal that destroyed Lucent and nearly destroyed HP. Has the WORST record for not voting at all, let alone “present”, has the VP pick under investigation for abuse of power, voted 90% of the time with his party, who have nearly destroyed the united states over the last 8 years, has said he will keep us in iraq for 100 years at 10 billion dollars a day, who is 72 years old and could very well die his first day in office when he has to face what he has caused???

Or vote for the black man who has sound answers, doesn’t lie, has everything he says backed up by factcheck.org, has had the past 5 secreataries of state back his plans for the nation, has every economic advisor who knows anything back up his economic plans, is still married to his first wife, has values and integrity, believes in peace and thinking things through before he acts, will be here for the common man, rather then the oil companies, knows it’s the common man getting to work that moves the economy, has a battle tested and proven VP pick???

I’ll take the black man.

I’m a “liberal”, married, military employed, gun owning, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage,
white democrat from Indiana.

The winds of "change" would appear to be blowing away Obama's smoke and revealing there's no fire, just an old style Chicago politician throwing mud at his opponent while promising a new, higher ethics, bipartisan style of politics.

Same campaign Rod Blagojevich ran to become Governor of Illiniois. Check out the Chicago Tribune or Sun Times to see what the truth of his claims was and extrapolate that to an Obama administration.

Lynn:60 yr old Obama supporter   September 23rd, 2008 12:03 pm ET

The two candidates are showing their temperment in a crisis:

McCain: react immediately without knowing the whole picture; change and shift as details become apparent; accuse the other side of being to blame and if all else fails take the other guys policies and pretend they are your own

Obama: have the fundamentals of a plan and vision; study the facts as they become known and consult with advisors and experts to arrive at a plan that shows judgment and intelligence.

Take the time to go to each Candidate's websites and study their plans on almost any topic and notice the detail and explanations in Obama's and the "brainstormed list" in McCain's.

mrmustard   September 23rd, 2008 12:03 pm ET

There is a media conspiracy, allright. But it is NOT a vast left wing conspiracy as alleged by Republicans, it is a conspiracy to maximize the bottom lines of the mega-corporations that control the lion's share of the electronic and print media; e.g., Disney, GE, Time-Warner, NewsCorp, Hearst, Tribune Co., etc.

If one side pulls away in the polls, watch as media attacks on that party increase to make the race tighter. If the other side pulls away, watch for the reverse.

The game today in media is all about profits, and nothing else. Nothing will maximize profits like close political races, especially for the office of POTUS. The closer the race, the more people tune in, so ratings are higher and so is ad revenue. This is more true on the tee-vee and radio side, but also can be seen in print media.

I watched this play out during the Obama/Clinton race. Every time one pulled ahead, the media attacks on that candidate would increase.

These polls change everday. I do see that the deciding facter in this election wont be"walmart moms" or "white women" , but will be the new first time, and young voters. They have never counted us in electiosn before as we never really showed up. The polls dont call cell #s. How many people under 30 do you know that have land line?

If the new and young voters turn up(which I see happening ) in record #s. Obama will clearly win. lets just hope this doesnt come down to recounts (remember 2000) or the elctoral college getting over on us.

I felt disinfranchised in 2000 (as a 1st time voter) and i dont want the Supreme Court making the decision for us.

Young people come out to vote! do early voting (began yesterday in GA) so we dont have to have it be a nail biting ending.

FYI expect long lines and a little disorganizing in some of the less predominant wealthy areas.. it happened in Metro Atl in 00 and 04

Molly   September 23rd, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Scott,
Why is it that most Americans have absolutely no grasp of their own history? This did not happen in 2 years. This meltdown took 25 years to occur, starting with Reagan. When government is run by people who don't like government, this is what happens. Conservatism is to blame, all the way around. You may be shortsighted, but the American people can see through the spin. Obama, all the way.

george from alaska   September 23rd, 2008 12:02 pm ET

What utter nonsense. This just proves that these "scientific" polls are nothing more than pure public relations baloney. We are heading for a possible Depression greater than the last one, and the American people know that it has been caused by decades of Republican sponsored government corruption. The notion that the Republicans have any chance at all in November is absurd. I have one comment...get real!

You should do some simple Math, it's kind of hard to fix 6 years of deficit in 19 months, lack of accountability and plain lack of competance has brought this on, How do you go from having a $281B surplus to a $357T deficit and then you want to say that it the Dems in congress, Wow I think the McCain camp is hiring you should be a shoe in.

"things were just fine until 2006 when Dems took over! Think about that…"

I am thinking about that, and it makes my head hurt to believe that anyone could be stupid enough to think that everything was fine until 2006! Gas prices were already going up. The stock market was already going down. Most of Congress's bad ratings are because they were elected to stop Bush from destroying the country, and the Congress voted along with the Republicans instead. Trying to blame the past 2 years of a Democratic congress that's been going along with the president all across the board is beyond ridiculous – it's brainwashed!

nellie   September 23rd, 2008 12:00 pm ET

McCain has been against regulation on the financial markets as far back as I can recall. During his campaign speech, he and Palin screamed about smaller government. Now, they have fiip/flopped about wanting more government regulation. If he is such a "maverick" why doesn't he stick to his guns and what he believes in. Speaking of social security, a republican senator stated last night on a news program social security, even after this mess, should be privatized! It may take years for the economy to recover, the government is listening to some of the best financial people available and yet John McCain criticizes Obama for not coming up with his plan already. This is something that can not be rushed. How did McCain come up with a plan overnight for the financial markets and some of the brightest people are still haggling with this mess?

The republicans have been screwing everything up since 1999-2000 with the help of PHIL GRAMM derugulating the entire system It's his fualt and who guessed who backed him... that's right the Republican majority in congress. Honestly I hope your just a McCain campaign worker because for an avergae citizen to say something so outrageously untrue means that you must be watching FIXED NEWS CHANNEL, or as we in the real world like to call it, Bush Administration Talking Points TV. If you are just this naive naturally then you must live in West Virginia or Ohio. Let me guess, the next thing to come out of your mouth will be "DRILL BABY DRILL". GOP voters are sheep. If they still vote republican after what has happened the last years, GOP voters truly are stupider then my wildest imagination, all the while convinced that they are doing the right thing.

I'm from Mississippi and I know that Obama will have trouble winning here. This state has voted Republican too many times to count but I really hope this year will be different. This is the year we stand up and declare that we will no longer accept things as they are. We will be engaged as citizens of this country and elect a president who is equally committed to setting a new direction for the USA.

"Why doesn't Obama have a double digit lead? Are 40% of independents racists too??"

Look at past elections, and go ahead and let me know how far back you have to go to find a president who has won double digits of the popular vote.

It was Reagan vs Mondale in 84. Before that, you have to go back to Nixon vs McGovern.

Double digit leads are *very* rare in US presidential elections.

Mike, Syracuse NY   September 23rd, 2008 11:57 am ET

This whole thing is a media driven ploy to make themselves seem relevant. No matter who wins we are going to hear at least 1.5 years of the media claiming there were some "irregularities" in the election. After that we will then have another year of gearing up for the primaries. Follow that with another 1.5 years of primary and general election campaigning. Congrats media, as long as you can keep the counrty divided and the elections close you will always have a "news story" to report.

It is hard to have any faith in McCain when all he offers is his past total support for Bush-Cheney policies, impulsive reactions that he quickly flip-flops from, the selection of the bazaar Palin for his running mate and claiming credit for the 'surge' success. Even the 'surge' at best is questionable as while the violence is down, nothing else is accomplished and we are still paying all of the costs, plus then it is questionable as to whether the Anabar (sp?) Awakening had more to do with any reduction in the violence or if the surge would have even worked without the Awakening (where Iraqi's took responsibility in their neighborhoods). On top of all of that McCain and Palin have both demonstrated a clear propensity for dishonesty. As I say, it is hard to have any faith in the McCain-Palin ticket.

alvino   September 23rd, 2008 11:53 am ET

I wish someone could take Joe Biden aside and tell him that this election is not about his close relationship with John McCain, it is about correcting 8 years of government without controls. Let's put America first and correct this mess.

ALLAN USA   September 23rd, 2008 11:53 am ET

I got phone call from poll co. I told them My family will vote for Obama. But on 4 nov. we will vote for McCain. Other wise they will consider us racist.

Bill   September 23rd, 2008 11:52 am ET

The introductory paragraph says "while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado."
The table printed below says Obama is ahead in Colorado.

"Obama: 49 percent
McCain: 45 percent"

Which is it?

james e. Holland   September 23rd, 2008 11:52 am ET

It seems as if the polls must be wrong....ALL the people that I know and talk to are voitinig against Obama.. CNN and NBC only want to here their canadate if leading...

jim Holland

Vanessa   September 23rd, 2008 11:52 am ET

The new Quinnipiac/Wall poll shows Obama up by 4 not McCain...

leigh   September 23rd, 2008 11:51 am ET

Don't believe polls! The data can be manipulated like the touch screen voting machines. Call the Obama campaign and offer to make phone calls, go door to door and get out the vote. We must show up in droves to get the
republicans out of the White House and we can do it! OBAMA 08

Who are you really, "Feminist Julie"?

I believe that women who choose to have large families should put kids before career, though it is possible to have both. (I should know. I have six.) But your statement sounds like the 1950s.

Democrat for McCain/Clinton/Palin   September 23rd, 2008 11:51 am ET

CNN polls are so useless when 88% of their viewers polling are democratic.

Gallup polls which are independent show Obama losing points at record speeds, yet CNN reporting he is gaining? Too funny.

Obamas reasoning on voting 4 times to support mortally ending the life of babies that initially survive abortions "To save a baby would demeen the decision of the womans choice to have an abortion".

**So suffocating or strangling a surviving baby which is what they do is humane because the woman wanted an abortion?

Obama on abortion: "I don't want my kids punished with a baby if they make a mistake."

I am pro-choice, I am a registered Democrat. However, I will not vote for this man due to his extreme ideologies, his corrupt mentors, friends, and his anti-american wife. No way, No HOW!

Mark   September 23rd, 2008 11:51 am ET

WHO CARES about your polls. They only say what the press wants them to say.
Polls are just the medias way of trying to manipulate an election.

I find it soooo stupid that all of Obamas followers are predicting a landslide,,, well if these stupid polls mean anything at all, then what sort of dim-wit comments it that?

Everytime one of these stupid polls get published the Dems all run around and puff thier chests out saying, we will win, we will win.

Polls mean nothing people,,, Nov 4th means everything

Janine   September 23rd, 2008 11:51 am ET

The only numbers that matter are on November 4. Everyone go out and vote:)

DebM, Allentown, PA   September 23rd, 2008 11:50 am ET

Are you someone who believes it's critical that Obama and Biden win this election? Volunteer!! Call your local Obama office and offer to provide rides on election day. Voter turnout will make the difference.

Magnus   September 23rd, 2008 11:50 am ET

Right,
I think you meant "Illinois Senator" with a 4-point lead. That or you misprinted the poll numbers.

Obama-Biden all the way... but personally, I'm more interested in how crazy and unique this race is, regardless of who wins.

CM   September 23rd, 2008 11:49 am ET

As long as Barack keeps it close in the polls he'll win it in Nov. New voters haven't been included as it has widely been noted and the Dems have outpaced the GOP with registrations in some cases 10 to 1.

Obama's GOTV will be the deciding factor here.

I didn't realize that a 4 point advantage in key battleground states was the same as "dead even" when there is no sampling error...

I don't believe these polls regardless of who they say is ahead or behind. I think CNN and other news organizations report them like they are this close to keep their ratings up. I also think that a percentage of people lie to pollsters when they call just to screw up the numbers.

Just look at the primaries for evidence of this.

McHoover Would Destroy What's Left of America   September 23rd, 2008 11:45 am ET

The Colorado poll that you cite is actually revered, Obama has a four point lead (49-45) on Mccain. Please be more careful from now on.

Shari, NY   September 23rd, 2008 11:44 am ET

So much for the polls! Of interest now is the fact that Gov. Palin is getting a crash course on foreign diplomacy by meeting nine heads of states in one day with nary a word to the press.

PRC.   September 23rd, 2008 11:43 am ET

Presumably that should read "while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Illinois senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado," and not "the Arizona senator."

J from DC   September 23rd, 2008 11:43 am ET

I have to say, I am a little thrown back by Sara Palin. She keeps saying everyday that she wants to bring transparency and reform to Washington. But she does not even have transparency in her own state. She has “instructed” her staff people (who work for her) not to answer subpoenas for the investigation on the trooper case. Citizens of Alaska have inquired about the issue, they want transparency. Now the small case has reached public interest and the rest of the public is now being ignored. Palin is saying that the investigation is now political. But, that happens when you are in office. The other side will ask question and try to shade light on any flaw they see. It is up to her to show that there is nothing to the allegations. If she won’t be transparent on that issue, I don’t think she will be transparent on any serious concerns the American people may have if she gets in office. For undecided voters, she is not being very transparent right now.

I Just dont Get it!   September 23rd, 2008 11:43 am ET

Are these the same polls that said a year ago that it would be RUDY vs. Hillary from each party for president??

You people never learn and thats why we are in the mess we are in now! We are a bunch of idiots and deserve what we get if we believe things that have proven to be wrong or lies in the past.

Danman   September 23rd, 2008 11:43 am ET

Hey CNN.....Who has a 4 point lead in CO? Might wanna have whoever "edits" this crap to take fewer smoke breaks....

me   September 23rd, 2008 11:43 am ET

For once... I want to see a real poll. One that includes the millions of people who don't have land lines. Also where are the numbers for the younger voters (18-21)? I have a feeling that this election is not as close as the media hypes it up to be...

Open Your 3rd Eye   September 23rd, 2008 11:43 am ET

Obama won Colorado during the convention.

You can bet your life on that one.

VIRGINIA will be blue   September 23rd, 2008 11:42 am ET

Enough with the polls. The only poll i'm interested in is on 11/4/08. But if you're looking at polls, wait until the debates are over. That poll should tell us who will win the election.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

"while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado." THIS IS BACKWARDS

The Quinniac polls above show Obama leading McCain by 4 points... They can't even read the polls corectly-

Bob   September 23rd, 2008 11:41 am ET

Can you fix this error?

"...while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado."

Colorado poll for Quinnipiac/Wall Street Journal/Washington

Obama: 49 percent
McCain: 45 percent
Unsure: 6 percent

Proof reader   September 23rd, 2008 11:41 am ET

"while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado."

Unless there have been some major geographical changes overnight, you've got this wrong. Obama is leading 49-45 in Colorado in this poll.

fixthebroken   September 23rd, 2008 11:41 am ET

So does Obama have the lead in Colorado or McCain? The words say McCain, but the data shows Obama. I tend to lead towards the latter.

jim   September 23rd, 2008 11:40 am ET

The problem with the "poll of polls" is it includes polls that are out dated. Obama has absolutely had great state polling the past 2 days. I highly recommend pollster.com for the best in poll coverage.

ES NYC   September 23rd, 2008 11:40 am ET

You say in your piece, "Colorado shows a 4 point lead for the Arizona senator" Correct it to "Illinois" senator.

Scott L   September 23rd, 2008 11:40 am ET

Obama going dooooownnnn...

Americans tired of democrat owned congress ruining gas prices (how you can blame republicans is ridiculous) and democrats have had oversight of market committee for two years now and you are blaming republicans for the metldown?

look in the mirror people, your own party is destroying this country....things were just fine until 2006 when Dems took over! Think about that...

People do not fall for these Polls– there are many groups for Obama that are not being captured because they do not contribute to these polls... Election day will be the deciding factor–

Don't fall for these polls!

Feminist Julie   September 23rd, 2008 11:39 am ET

Obama will win because The National Organization of Women, NOW, has endorsed the Democrat ticket because there is no woman on the ticket.
I think women like Sarah Palin are better off at home raising kids than trying to involve themselves in traditionally male dominated things like politics.

John in Ohio   September 23rd, 2008 11:38 am ET

The media wants a horse race.

Joe   September 23rd, 2008 11:37 am ET

These "poll of polls" are so dumb. Just give individual polls, quit averaging them all together. Most individual polls in FL show McCain leading and most individual polls in Minnesota show Obama leading. Averaging them just doesn't make since.

Obama/Biden 2008

Andy   September 23rd, 2008 11:37 am ET

You should correct this story. The Illinois senator has a 4 point lead in the Quinnipiac poll of Colorado...not the Arizona senator.

IndependentThinker, NY   September 23rd, 2008 11:37 am ET

Excuse me CNN!
Correct this one:
while a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado. ???
Actually it's Obama who is leading by 4 points in CO

Is this news?   September 23rd, 2008 11:36 am ET

This is going to come down to turn out. Whichever side turns out the higher percentage wins. Obama will win because these polls are conducted with "likely voters," not first time voters that are considered unreliable.

In Florida alone, there are 300,000 more first-time Democratic voters than Republican first timers. Add in the enthusiasm for Barack Obama's historic candidacy, and you have a recipe for victory.

Same thing goes in Ohio and Pennsylvania, where college students (who haven't been polled) will decide the outcome.

Joe in PA   September 23rd, 2008 11:36 am ET

You say:

"A new Quinnipiac poll shows the Arizona senator with a 4-point lead in Colorado"

but then you say:

"Colorado poll for Quinnipiac/Wall Street Journal/Washington
Obama: 49 percent
McCain: 45 percent
Unsure: 6 percent"

Huh? Am I missing something?
