Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida, in the foreground, supported Sen. Hillary Clinton during the primaries but is now urging Democrats to support Sen. Barack Obama.

(CNN) – Rep. Alcee Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats Wednesday that they should be wary of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”

“If Sarah Palin isn’t enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention,” Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida said at a panel about the shared agenda of Jewish and African-American Democrats Wednesday. Hastings, who is African-American, was explaining what he intended to tell his Jewish constituents about the presidential race. “Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through,” Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause.

After telling attendees that the most important thing Jewish and African-American Democrats could do to support one another was to get Sen. Barack Obama elected president, Hastings had one more message: “For those of you like me that supported Sen. Hillary Clinton, she lost! Get over it!”

Hastings was joined on the panel by Rep. Steven Cohen of Tennessee, who is Jewish and represents a majority African-American district; Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama, who is African-American and whose district includes many of the significant sites in the 1960’s civil rights movement; and Georgetown Law Prof. Peter Edelman, who was a legislative assistant to Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.

Cohen, who recently remarked that Jesus Christ was a community organizer, took his comments about the founder of the Christian faith further Wednesday. “A lot of what Jesus talks about is wonderful,” Cohen said. “Talks about helping people and lifting them up and caring about people who are sick and all those things. He’s a great Democrat.”

The panel was part of the National Jewish Democratic Council’s annual conference. The Jewish Democratic group recently voiced criticism of Palin’s invitation to an anti-Iran rally timed to coincide with Mahmoud Ahmedinajad’s visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly. Palin’s invitation was withdrawn by the rally’s organizers after Hillary Clinton announced that she would no longer be attending the event.

The support of Jewish voters is shaping up to be a highly sought after prize in the general election match-up between Sen. Obama and Sen. John McCain. Jews have historically favored Democrats by wide margins in recent presidential races. But, the McCain campaign is making a concerted effort to go after the loyal Democratic constituency and Obama has been plagued by false Internet rumors that he is Muslim which have had particular salience in the Jewish community.

Well, what he is saying is true. Did you see the Republican convention? How many minorities were there? John McCain and Sarah Palin are warmonglers. There interest don't reflect what America is about. America is a melting pot of different kinds of people, cultures, and languages. It's not just about White America. Barack will not just be the minority president. He will become everyone in America's president. White, Black, Hispanic, Jew, Asia, Arabic, etc.

Anna   September 24th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

First Lady Laura Bush told CNN Wednesday Sarah Palin lacks experience in foreign policy, but quickly added the Alaska governor is "a very quick study."

I would say, this statement does apply to Barack Obama as well. He is definitely a fast learner and very wise I may add. Wisdom will bring smart and refreshing change about this world.

Why should the debate be held up for McCain and Obama to be involved with this problem. They are not going to do a thing and are not the people in charge at this time.

It seems like McCain does not want to keep his debate.

Karen you are an idiot, please re-read the article and post accordingly. Is the McCain campaign paying you well? You want to start a problem which is why you would bring something not in the subject. Go and start a rumor somewhere else.

Well it's about time someone spoke up and dared to say something negative about Palin–so true

JusLaugh   September 24th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

I think the way the McCain camp is treating Palin is very sexist. He is basically saying that women are to be seen and not heard.

What a bunch of racist crap.

This guy reminds me of another Reverend Wright. What a vile and inappropriate analogy to use. It does a great disservice to jews and blacks. Certainly anyone with a brain would not embrace the words of such an outrageous bigot. Keep race out of the campaign.

Give Black people and Jewish people the respect they deserve. They will rise above this bigotry and elect the person that they believe will be the best leader. It has nothing to do with "gun toting and moose stripping".

This is offensive on every level!

Eli   September 24th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

He needs to get over it and shut up. This is one time that someone has a leg up on the African Americans. The Jewish people were for sure treated worse and far more executed than the African Americans. So please SIR dont put yourself into the Jewish boat. Im proud that everytime he or a Chris Rock says Hillary lost, get over it, it makes a Hillary fan run to Mccain/Palin or not vote at all. I know this is one Hillary supporter that will not vote for the big O.

Phil in KC   September 24th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

You go, Alcee! I especially liked his advice to "Get over it!"
Of course, I don't know what toting guns and dressing moose has to do with blacks and jews…. I'd be interested in hearing the logic behind that. Perhaps it's that conservatives, and that particular brand of conservative, have never supported the issues that matter to that constituency. That I could buy into.

NEW YORK - Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says the United States could be headed for another Great Depression like that of the 1930s if Congress doesn't act on the financial crisis.

Palin's comments came in an interview Wednesday with "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric.

Asked whether there's a risk of another Great Depression if Congress doesn't approve a $700 billion bailout package, Palin said: "Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on."

UNbelievable,,,,,she need to undedrstand that alot of this is mental and talk like this leads to panic…go back to Alaska

So what you are saying is that YOU are educated enough to know that the seperation of church and State is something Jesus never wanted and that only Dem's want this????

You are truly pulling my leg here right?

Jesus gave to and promoted the poor and chastised the rich. Where is it that Republicans do that? Show me how Jesus, who is evidentally a socialist per Repub standards, feels that we should take care of ME & MINE!!! Or to expand that, ME, MINE, and the GOOD OLE BOYS who protect ME & MINE from those horrible socialists.

SAT   September 24th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

I appreciate the Reps enthusiam. However, he does need to tone it down. Don't make it personal. Stick to stating the differences on policy issues between the two campaigns.

If te Dems want to make a case to the Jewish community, have a spokesman give those type of sound bites. That would strengthen the argument.

My husband is a supporter of Defenders of Wildlife. DOW sent an email to all their donors featuring an ad targeted at Gov. Palin's record in Alaska regarding the polar bears and wolves. The ad showed footage of wolves being shot, tortured, etc. I don't know if this ad has started airing on tv. The footage was sickening to watch. It gave me the creeps.

“anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”

"anybody…don't care" That doesn't sound like good grammar to me! Anyway, it's bad enough America is stuck on a 2-party system…but now we have Jewish Democrat groups and African-American Democrat groups?? Why must we constantly break up Americans into different little interest groups? This is kind of like lobbying, isn't it?

Ed, Santa Fe NM   September 24th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Outrageous, the comparison of Sarah Palin's hunting, etc. to Jews and blacks being endangered by her views. That is bigoted at least, and racist most likely. If McCain or a conservative had made asimilar opposing statement the Coconut News Network and the rest of the left wing media would flip out. Let's leave Race out of the race for the White House, it has no place.

US Citizen   September 24th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

It is hard to believe that I am reading all this sexist and racist idiocey.
This goes to show how stupid this has gotten. It is OK for a man to go and hunt and field dress game but not a woman. Talk about a mixed set of standards that are 1000 yrs behind the times. It is VERY SEXIST, AND RACISIST. All of a sudden the Jewish people are teaming up with the Black race. Funny how times change when you get all the radicals yelling and showing their colors on sexism and race. They are all afraid of any woman to be in any power. They are all cowards if this is why they want people to vote against Gov. Palin.

The McCain campaign are actually giving us all the clearest indication of their estimation of Palin's ability to fill the roll of vice president. If they do not think that she is capable of fielding questions from the press, they cannot think that she is capable of being the vice president (or, heavens help us, the president). I am not a reporter, in any way affiliated with media, or a politico. I am "just" a citizen. However even I understand this. I wish others understood this as well.

Chuckjones   September 24th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

So, he's saying that Sarah Palin doesn't care about Jews and blacks because she believes in the right to bear arms and that she hunts?

We hear from the left that race will be an issue in this election, but the only ones talking about race as a factor is the left.

I no longer have words to describe the disgust I feel. Not just for people like Hastings, but for those who clap and laugh at their hate mongering.

As a woman, I felt insulted when McCain chose a random woman the country did not know to run as VP. I can see through the lies. You, McCain, have insulted women everywhere. We women were not just backing Mrs. Clinton because she has a uterus - and we will not throw our vote to McCain's aid just because he found a uterus to put on the ticket.

We are smart, women! We will vote for the *right* woman when the *right* woman comes along and unfortunately will will have to wait because Palin is not that woman.

Obama wants to win at any cost. What he lacks in merits he makes up for in vitriolic insults and derision designed to intimidate and humiliate those who don't support him into giving him their vote.

This is an effort to force people to vote for Obama- whether you agree with Obama politically or not- whether he is qualified to lead or not.

This is fascism.

First, "America for Obama" - Found your post interesting. So you were okay with Rev Wright comments and that Obama was a member of his church, or were those taken out of context. If you use the Obama measure, since she was not there for the comments, then it is not a story.

Second, this is blatant playing of the race card. The McCain campaign has said nothing about race throughout the campaign, but every chance they get, Obama's camp centers the discussion around race.

It is time for the media to go back to reporting news instead of providing its editiorial position. It is sad that people of both sides of the fence are being forced to react to smear instead of issues.

I have met some of the most unlikely people and Obama supporters this election cycle, it throws me every time. What we should be worried about is this "bailout." People call your Congressmen and make your views known. This plan, as it stands, is a waste of money. If ordinary people who can not afford these mortgages are left on the hook for these inflated amounts they can not aford, we will be asking the same questions in a month. Really, the money should be given on behalf of them with the condition that the lenders excuse some of that debt for people who were likely victims of this lending process. We can bail out corporations if we want to, but the fact is, the economy works from the bottom up. It is our money, and it should go to help us; not some greedy idiots who caused this mess and will be rich regardless.

Im surprised that there are not more repubs on here talking about Obama using the race card. Anytime anyone says anything about African -Americans the righties come out in full force saying that Obama is playing the race card from the bottom of the deck. Somehow the gender card is ok to play, and has been played many times throughout the campain. Most recently, with the email that Palin sent out to her supporters, and Carly "golden parachute" Fiorina when she claimed the saturday night live sketch was sexist. (even though it featured one smart woman, and one less intelligent one) I think there is a definite double standard.

This is a terrible way to try to win   September 24th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

This beats Obama's own bitter and gun toting God clinging elitist remarks.

This is so ugly that it makes me cringe. I am a life-long democrat and I am starting to question if a vote for Obama will end up bringing division and hate into the white house.

This is SO wrong that I am speechless.

Ron from Baltimore   September 24th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Ms. Martina Stewart, who wrote this Ticker piece, needs to sharpen her pencil some. Even if the event in question was a jumble, and I'm not saying it was, this is very poorly written. Is Alcee being, what, Semitic, racist, sexist, engaging….?? I'm not sure what the reader was supposed to take away from this piece, or what these few folks who tired to understand it are responding to.

I smell the fear   September 24th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

When will the vitriolic democrats stop with these unjustified and mean and cruel and UNTRUE attacks against McCain and Palin?

Do they seriously believe this will rally support for Obama?

For me- and I am a life-long democrat- it is having the opposite effect.

From the start I have wanted a fair fight. Obama has not provided that. He cheated to oust HRC and now he lies and cheats to gain an advantage over the Republicans.

I say, enough is enough. This is sordid and disgusting. African Americans better get a grip on their blind PRO- OBAMA no matter what, bias.

anonymous   September 24th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Well Bob in Indianapolis - I, for one, have a doctorate degree and I personally think maybe you should do a little homework on your own instead of running your mouth. Lies being told about NOBAMA? Not all lies. Check further. He is a man of many, many lies.

petena   September 24th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Racism? Just look at the African American representation at the Republican National Convention. The Republicans are for the RICH and only want the people of color if they are RICH. They can not identify themselves with regular people. Cindy McCain's dress at the convention $200,000 and Palin's business suit $1500. Plezzzzz

Linda   September 24th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

One word…DISGUSTING. It's one thing to say her policies are not in line with what Jews stand for…but to say what he did is just horrible. This is what people in middle america are sick of. When are we going to elect adults to serve us and stop electing these high-school children who like to play games and call people names. I hope Obama brings the change her promises…we surely need it.

wait a minute   September 24th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Rep. Alcee Hastings doesn't know the price of a pound of meat or grocery in general. Alaskans hunt for food, because shipped food is very expensive in this remote area of the country. I don't think ignorance is a blessing here.

Nannie Bouroughs   September 24th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

I am NOT an Obama supporter and I certainly do NOT support the USA and its support of Israel. Just what all these religious attacks on Sarah have to do with this extraordinary candidate is totally beyond me!

I am terrified that various RELIGIONS and ethnic groups or a combination thereof are destroying DEMOCRACY!

Religion has no place in GOVERNMENT!

Should the incredibly stupid and superstitious voters in America elect Obama, he is NOT going to do anything SPECIAL for BLACKS or for JEWS!

The President is president of all Americans and no GROUP should or will get any SPECIAL FAVORS!

Does Obama Palin Comparison?   September 24th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Racist!!!

Now I am gone from the Obama camp   September 24th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

I am a life long democrat and this is way over the top for me.

McCain/Palin just won my vote.

I can no longer support my democratic party- they have become bitter and vitriolic and openly express their bigotry, sexism and antipathy towards any American that does NOT agree with them.

Please tell me HRC was NOT okay with this.

She is much too inclusive and gracious to support such hate.

bakersfield   September 24th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

wow - dems are out there

Lynn, FL   September 24th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

This is disgusting, racist, fear mongering and Hastings should be ashamed of himself for stooping so low. His comments should be condemned by the Obama campaign. Just because Sarah Palin hunts moose it means she will kill blacks and Jew? That is one of the most absurd and idiotic things to come out of anyone's mouth in this whole campaign season.

The democrats across the board are trying to scare people in to voting for them on a number of issues, social security, abortion, health care, and now this. It is pathetic and so are the people who believe and cheer this nonsense.

rachel   September 24th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

People should stop saying get over it, that doesnt help your cause. Anyways look for Mrs clinton in Michigan this sat. stumping for Obama.

ELLIE   September 24th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I can't believe the drivvle I have just finished reading. Just go back and read what you all have written. It's hateful, misinformed, racial, and just plain stupid. I thought democrats were supposed to be for the poor and minorities. All I see and hear is hatred!

Oh, yes, victor nj, I am really going to rely on salon.com for my news source. You all had better wake up and soon. If you don't we'll soon be a socialist country.

Scott of Utah   September 24th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I am white and my entire family is right. I am terrified of what Palin / McCain would do with this Country.

BOBBY K. FROM BIRMINGHAM, AL.   September 24th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I agree!!!!!
I also saw earlier that Mccain wants to postpone the debates while he works on the economy??? He also asks for OBAMA to do so also. I do agree with McCain's proposal but at the same time the majority of the country wants to see what both men will do for National Security and PRIMARLY THE ECONOMY. BY HAVING THESE DEBATES, WE CAN ALL SEE WHAT MCCAIN REALLY PLANS(OR NOT) DO!!!!!!!!!

BRING ON THE DEBATES!!!!!!!!

Praetorian, Fort Myers   September 24th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Alcee Hastings….

So now we're pitting the blacks and Jewish citizens against conservative values?

What a desperate attempt to channel the Jewish vote in Florida.

Mr. Hastings here are some facts for you:
Israel is our allie against radical Islam. Unlike the safe folks in SE Florida–the people who live in Israel probably take a less liberal view on national defense strategy–and willingness to use military force to pursue national interests for us and our allies.

In addition. Governor Palin is being portrayed as an ignorant war-Hawk, when nothing in McCain's agenda has alluded to further expansion of U.S. forces in the middle east (with the exception of Afghanistan) and she supports McCain's agenda.

I've always heard it was the GOP doing the "fear mongering" Mr. Hastings?
No wonder 9 of 10 elected officials in Florida are Republican with knuckleheads like Mr. Hastings portraying the Democrats in such a bad light. Floridians aren't so stupid Alcee–despite your beliefs we can all read and write and have access to volumes of information in order to make our own decisions.

Thanks for the advice though Mr. Hastings. Shalom.

Matt   September 24th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Look at the demographic breakdowns for Wasilla and Alaska at factfinder.census.gov. Doesn't look to me like she has much experience dealing with the problems facing non-white minorities in this country.

Wasilla (2000 data, around when she was mayor) - Whites 4,674, Non-White 671 (32 Black, 201 Hispanic), Mixed 325

Alaska (2006 data, sowrn in as Gov. in Dec. '06) - Whites 460,170, Non-White 192,872 (21,476 Black, 37,498 Hispanic), Mixed 54,509

Don   September 24th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

The news has just reported that John McCain wants to cancel the debate and focus on the Economy, there is nothing that he can do in the next day or two. That is like placing 700 Billion dollars in GW and Dick Cheneys hands and telling them to split it among their friends.

LMAO at the utter ignorance these politicians are feeding you.

I don't quite get Hastings comparison, but I got the image of the demographics of the GOP convention and McCain/Palin rallies loud and clear.

Illini   September 24th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Rep. Hastings' statements are UNCONSCIONABLE!!! I cannot believe that this election has come to this! This statement is just reprehensible and if Obama knows what's good for him, he will denounce them!

What I really can't believe thought, are the statements on this Blog, in support of Hastings' statements! You people are just sick!

Well said "Belle."

Nancy   September 24th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

You people are all crazy…..I don't understand why there is such "HATE" in the Obama supporters.. Including other policitians. That is a terrilbe remark and he should be ashamed of himself….

Joyce, nj   September 24th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

I just saw news flash - McCain ask for the debate to be postponed. With the most hypocritical reason. If he care so much about the economy, what was he doing when Bush it all were destroying it?

Really, the tricks are so repugnant. Face the nation John, let us know where you stand, are you not ready? Nothing much can be done on Friday, the entire nation is waiting for this debate. If you're not ready now, you never will.

Michigan Democratic voting for MCCAin   September 24th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

How stupid can you get saying something like that ! That is why I
am voting for Mccain Hussien Obama well say anything to get the people on his side look at Rev Wright he sat their for 20 years.

MCCAIN / PALIN 08

Proud Obama/Biden Supporter   September 24th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

McCain and Palin are so far out of touch with minorities in this country and that is a shame. I want to ask Gov. Palin myself, "What type of inner city problems do you face in Alaska?" Oh I forgot there aren't any! She couldn't even hande being Gov of a state with a large city so how is she going to be able to be one heart beat away (literally) from running a country with my husband well being at stake who happens to be deployed right now for who knows how long! Wake up America, other countries are laughing at us!

Vonniewit   September 24th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I am pro-Obama but must distance myself from the Hastings comment. Don't be surprised if the Obama camp releases a statement. Truthfully, what Hastings said is true. It's just how he said it. One can agrue that Palin's nature is cruel. And the people, places, and things that she has not shown regard for should not expect differently under a McCain-Palin adminstration.

Eric   September 24th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

And they always said this race had nothing to do with race…..Yeah Right. Geraldine Ferraro had it right.

Jon   September 24th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

I don't care about race, sex, religion, etc., and I'm sick of hearing about it. Instead, the Palin selection is a rallying cry to anyone with a brain and a conscience to vote for Obama.

Karen   September 24th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

McCain or Palin has yet to address anyone non-white. They made a play for the Latino's which is fine, but there are additional demographics out there that does vote. Everytime they open their mouth I feel insulted and discriminated against. How could this be good for the federal governement that is for every citizen. She is a racist and not ashame of it. That is very shameful for America.

Scott in Atlanta   September 24th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

This guy has just proven himself to be a complete ignoramous. He just took an Alaskan lifestyle and turned it into a completely unrelated fear mongering rant. Obama and Biden should distance themselves from his comments immediately.

seriously?   September 24th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Ummm… Anyone here actually know anything about Isreal? Why would it matter it Palin has a gun to the Jewish peole? Almost Everyone in Isreal caries a gun, AR's etc in Public… At Schools… Isreal ( thus many Jews) are NOT Anti Guns… Although the first thing that Hitler did was to take away Guns and weapons from the Jews so that they could not defend themselves…and the world knows what happend when a group of people was not able to defend themselves… Hmmm Lets ask Obama and BIden about that, since they want to take your right away to defend your home and family…

ANGIE   September 24th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

How can I get some of that amazingly-good liberal PR??   September 24th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Alcee Hastings… Alcee Hastings… now where do I know that name?

Oh yeah…

He was impeached and removed from office for corruption and perjury. He is among a very, very elite corps of Americans: he is only the sixth federal judge to be impeached and removed from office in American history.

Oh yeah, THAT Alcee Hastings…

Now, again, tell me why I care what an impeached perjurer has to say about anything?

Tom   September 24th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Um, thanks Rep. Hastings, I guess. Now how about sitting out the rest of the campaign? We can't afford to lose this one.

Wayne   September 24th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Biden was on Meet the Press 42 times.
Palin was on Meet the Press ZERO TIMES!!!

McCain is being sexist in how he is coddling her. Using her for photo ops but not allowing her to speak freely, answer tough questions and show us her mettle under extreme pressure much like how Obama did when he was down 30 points to Hillary or like what McCain did when he fired his entire campaign staff.

Obama and McCain EARNED respect. Palin hasnt earned anything as she was appointed by one man. Lets see her show her stuff or fold under the pressure like she did on the foriegn policy question during the town hall or how she looked like a moose in the headlights when Gibson asked her about the Bush doctrine.

Cindy in the Carolinas   September 24th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

I don't know 'bout y'all, but I always treat moose and blacks the same way. Theys the same color ain't theys? This has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard! Maybe he's trying to downplay the fact that Obama's grandfathers hated Jews. The guy would be better off quoting P Diddy. "Alaska? There's no black people! No crack-heads! No crime!" Of course P Diddy thinks the three things go together.

Proud Soldeirs Mom   September 24th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Obama supporters just don't get it!

Wealthy Americans, own businesses, or corporations and or invest in other businesses, and or corporations, which in turn creates jobs and lower prices for the rest of America.

If you raise taxes on the Wealthy:

They in turn will;

Stop investing in other businesses (so those businesses have to raise prices, and lay off their employees to balance their profits.

Raise the prices of their own products (if business owners) to balance their profits.

Lay off employees at their own businesses.

The wealthy want to stay WEALTHY, and will do what ever they have to do to sustain their life styles. Put yourself in a wealthy person’s position. What would you do if your taxes were raised? You would cut back where you can so you can continue living the life style you and your family are accustom to.

By trying to stick it to the wealthy, you will only be hurting yourself, your family, and your friends.

Obama supporters claim to be intelligent, educated people.

Prove it! Do your own research. Don't take the rest of us Americans down because you are too lazy to do any research, and would rather just be a follower!

Frantz from Atlanta   September 24th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Why are the democrats allowed to get away with such HATRED against fellow Americans this election.

Makes me wonder if Obama lacks in merits so everyone has to play the race card and use sexism and antipathy against those who do NOT go along with Obama.

Never have I seen more blatant attempts to shame and force people into voting for the least qualified candidate to ever run for POTUS.

Wow. That was the most blunt statement I have heard so far from a politician. There may be some truth behind it. I don't know how Sarah Palin feels, personally, but anybody who says that racism doesn't exist is just plain naive. Racism, just like terrorism, will never go away. It's sad, but true.

That is a very small-minded and racist comment.

Debra Greenwood   September 24th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

You said it, Alcee! It is time for everyone in America to consider what outcome from the November election is in their best interests. Unless you make $250,000 or more, you would fare much better with Obama-Biden than with McCain-Palin.

The Republicans have promoted deregulation of the financial sector which has been a large reason for the disastrous current state of the U.S. economy.

If you want more of the same, vote McCain.
If you want a brighter America for all of us, the choice is obvious…

Hitler Youth for Obama   September 24th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

The democrats are being very vile and bigoted and playing dirty this election.

Maybe it has to do with how OBAMA rose so quickly in the dirty Chicago style politics.

This is not the change I want to see.

Stacy in PA   September 24th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Let's remember Obama was born through the womb of a white mother from America and his father was an African from Kenya. We most learn to come together and celebrate both sides of his heritage instead of finding reasons to be divided. I'm thankful for both of his parents and more importantly God for bringing him to us. His background will serve as testimony for all racists that two different worlds can come together and conceive a beautiful future for us all. We need to stick together and get out and vote.

N.S of Huntsville, Al   September 24th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

There is no need to play any race card, the world saw the Republican convention there was less than 1% blacks at the convention (if that), Palin you can tell is racist her teenage daughters boyfriend is a redneck racist, and I have yet to hear Palin reach out to blacks and tell them what she plans on doing for us not once. So its a fact not a race card, and if your not a racist you shouldn't be offended. Check yourself clearly before your yelling blacks are playing the race card, we don't have to. Your uncle McCain did it by trying to scare white voters about Obama but as you see that's not working. And the Republicans also don't give a care about women there using Palin and thats not working either.

Go Obama keep the good fight!!!

Are you kidding   September 24th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

"Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks" That comment doesn't make sense in any context. U.S. Soldiers tote guns and quite a good number are hunters ergo "they don't care too much about Jews and blacks?" I also like the attempt to take a persona that is supposed to be a universal figure and applying the Democrat label to them. The last time I checked, the two parties were not even around when this person walked the earth. I really wish our elected representatives were more informed and aware of the ramifications of what they say.

What a shame! Rep. Hastings saying just because someone knows how to hunt and take care of their game taken how can you in any way shape or form put that on the same ground as the with the holocaust?
You are an ignorant FOOL!
Hopefully the people who voted for you now see you for the ignorant sick fool you are! Hopefully they will VOTE you out ASAP.

How dare you!

NRA stand up against this fool!
Hastings is clearly a danger to the public to even think any AMERICAN would do think or act this way.

I support all AMERICANS who hunt and provide for their families by hunting. So, if you are a hunter remember this fools name.

The new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll will be released at 6:30 pm ET, but here's an early look at one set of numbers:

Forty-nine percent say that Palin is unqualified to be president if the need arises, compared with 40 percent who say she's qualified.

By contrast, 64 percent believe Biden is qualified to be president, versus just 21 percent who disagree.

I don't want to discuss race anymore. I know that there are people who will not vote for Obama because of that, but there are plenty of whites who are showing their support in spite of the ignorance of some. If we want to discuss race, I wish we would find a better forum, and a better way to do it versus making random comments.

BELLE..HIS COMMENTS WERE LESS ABOUT RACE AND MORE ABOUT RELIGION! If you do not believe me, just research the views of the PENTACOSTAL religion as it pertains to Jews..
