McCain aide: Friday debate will take place if bailout passes

(CNN) - McCain senior advisor Mark Salter told reporters Wednesday that the Arizona senator’s decision followed two days of discussions with colleagues on Capitol Hill, who told him that the bailout plan from Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson faced an uphill fight.

He also said that McCain called President Bush today and told him of the plan, but would not characterize the president’s reaction to the proposal.

The McCain campaign will suspend airing all ads and all campaign events pending an agreement with Obama, as well as planned fundraising activities.

He added that McCain would take part in the debate as scheduled if Congress reached agreement on the measure by Friday morning.

(Updated to reflect McCain campaign announcement fundraising activities will be suspended)

All thess idiots trying to do is to get obama off his preparation for the debate, I think obama should not agree with Mccain in suspending the debate whether Congress reaches agreement or not.

there is no reason to suspend these debates....
McCain has never been at economic meetings before he doen't have to be there now... doesn't he know there are telephones, fax machines and airplanes.... there is no reason for them to be there personally.. this is another gimmick..... Im sure republicans are going to say this is leadership... this was planned ... no if Obam says no because he knows he was about to slam McCain it is going to be said he only cares about winning,,,,,, Another gimmick

McCain -"The dog ate my homework"

    A diversion tactic. Look – Haley's Comet!!!!

To all the Republicans out there... .What happened to personal responsiblity. Let these banks pull themselves up out of this muck.

    To Wall Street:

    Jump, Baby, Jump!

Let the bads ones fail. Good banks will take their place.

A few weeks ago the Fed allowed these firms to come to the discount window and borrow money. Why haven't they been using this… because the interest is less than 4%….and they want a free bail out?

Yet these same banks want to charge 29% to their credit card holders!

They should all go to the top of thier skyscrapers and JUMP!.

    Jump, Baby, Jump

    Say no to:
    More War McCain &
    Taliban Palin

There needs to be more accountability and an absolute ceo ceiling for compensation. Not a dime should go to a single person on Wall Street. They failed and if that was not in the bill to begin with..then let's not call a blank check any kind of solution...it's a dumb solution. It MUST have regulations and stiff penalties attached to it.

Socialism for big business is UNACCEPTABLE. McCain's socialism is a HORRIBLE idea.

The last time I checked, presidents frequently have to multi-task. If this issue is so pressing that both senators need to go back to Washington, simply move the debate to Washington. A two hour debate on Friday night when Congress isn't in session won't make a difference in this mess. They can work until the debates, debate, go home to sleep, and head back to the Hill. Problem solved.

mccain now suddenly cares about the economy because things now he suddenly is realizing but where are these empty words of care 8months ago-there is nothing wrong in using change to promote your career if you have evidence of change in your career there is something wrong in using your military record as a shield from deserved scrutiny

  11. Palin the Truth hurts.

As Laura Bush said, Sarah needs more time. She isn't ready yet.
Mc Cain is buying time for for Sarah Palin to be given the "Quick Study"
    Crash Course.
Also, McShame is trying to take the "presumed" leadership role by leading Obama back to D.C.. The McSame ploy he tried to use to get Mr. Obama to join him in TownHall meetings.
McLame is hoping that if Obama says no, that he (Obama) will be seen as unpatriotic & not caring as much as McShame.

    More Republikin Tricks.

After 26 years, McSame, the life long de-regulator; wan'ts to suddenly re-invent himself as being for Regulation & Change. He wants to suddenly be just like Obama... :P

McChameleon... ever changing... since being nominated. :)

John McCain knows that he is losing and is not prepared. This mess did not happen overnight. He is trying to calm things down and hope he will look better because we are on to his games. Go on with the debate and the campaign. We still need a President in January and I Pray it is not McCain.

McCain is running scared. Looking for any distraction to keep from having to debate. What a loser!

Someone whould fill his advisors in on the fact that the vote on the bailout takes place during the day adn the debate is at night.

I can see and hear the ads and press conferences now about how Obama is unpatriotic for not putting the debate off.

HEY JOHNNY! EVEN A BLIND MAN CAN SEE THROUGH THIS ONE.

IF MCCAIN IS RUNNING SCARED, IMAGINE WHAT THAT DUFUS PALIN IS FEELING. HOORAY!

Didn't McCain just get done telling us the fundamentals of the economy were strong?

Seriously, McCain needs to make sure his melanoma has not moved to his brain. I am not joking, this is a very common site for secondary cancer from melanoma.

You 'Bots never cease to deliver.

If it had been Obama who had come out and made this initiative you would have acted like it was the Second Coming.

The Children of the Corn can ALWAYS be counted on to twist any and every sittation into a Right-Wing Conspiracy.

    Now that's entertainment!

BTW- 5 1/2 years as a POW prepared McCain for this debate a long, long time ago.

He doesn't need any practice to whoop a stammering chump like Barack Obama.

    NO TELEPROMPTERS!
