This is about as believable as Sarah Palin's "Bridge to Nowhere" line. Or McCain's promises to run a decent and dignified campaign.

The cynicism and opportunism of the McCain campaign never ceases to amaze me. I guess this is one way to get the Rick Davis news off the front pages.

The thing about gimmicks is that people eventually see through them. You'd think McCain would have learned that after the Palin nomination. But I guess gimmicks are all he has. We need real solutions. We need President Obama!

at 3:00 McCain says "I am suspending my campaign and I want Obama to do the same" making it seem like it was only his idea.

Honestly! The American people really don't care who made the first phone call. I think it's great that both senators are actually considering going back to their day jobs, if just for a few days, because of something so important to the American peoplle. And, geez, can't they walk and chew gum at the same time. Why should the debate be postponed?? We all NEED to hear what they have to say, especially now.

But the question of the day is whether or not during that 30 minutes before his news conference McCain told Obama about his decision to skip the debate. If no, then was it because the idea only surfaced then and it was a snap decision? Or did McCain already decide but for some reason chose not to say anything? Either way it doesnt look good considering they spoke directly right before his announcement.

We don't need to cancel the debates, we need to change the debate about the economy and make both candidates explain to the American public what role did they have in creating this financial disaster and what will they do to get out of it if they are President. John McCain and Sarah Palin need to stop all the political wrangling and claim their share of responsiblilty for the crisis. They are Republicans not "Mavericks" and their party was in charge, Mr. McCain! As for you Ms. Palin, this is American and you can't just waltz into the Vice-Presidency avoiding tough questions. If you can't be prepared to take the heat, then drop out. I'm able to cut the Dems some slack because their leadership will claim some responsibility and they were not in charge. Behind in national polls and only about even is states he must win that Repbulicans generally do win, it is understandable that McCain would decide that looking presidential might work as a campaign strategy. It is however only that. He could still campaign, still debate, and still try to convince the public that his newly discovered populist appraoch after a career advocating deregulation is real. He could still try to convince us that his VP choice was based on something other than pure politics. He could still decide to campaing on the issues instead of distorting Obama's statements and record. He could...but I doubt he would. He already appears to have misrepresented Obama'a initiation of a telephone call by announicng suspension of a campaign, failing to acknowledge the attempt at bipartisanship that the call represented.

Both sides agreed that Obama called and asked McCain to agree to putt out a joint statement, the McCain campaign agreed, both sides were working on issuing a joint statement AND the McCain Campaign released a statement saying that he would be suspending his campaign.
