McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate

(CNN) - McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday.

Graham says the McCain camp is well aware of the position of the Obama campaign and the debate commission that the debate should go on as planned - but both he and another senior McCain adviser insist the Republican nominee will not go to the debate Friday if there's no deal on the bailout.

I knew there was more to it! Palin's tutoring must not be going as well as they know it must to have her prepared to go against Biden, so they needed to find a way to have it postponed. Politics as usual. When will these politicians realize that we are not stupid and can see through these smoke screens? I guess they won't until they are voted out.

What a crock?! I think McSame is putting himself first. This is typical Repubican tactics to change the story of what going on with his campaign manager Rick Davis and that he is losing ground in the polls to Obama. Go ahead McPain take all the time you need...suspend until Nov. 5th if you like.

"We are pleased to announce that Sarah Palin has survived the freezing process and is now successfully hibernating inside this block of carbonite. This should quite well protect her against any threat of having to go in front of the public or press conferences."

Seriously, how much further can they stretch this blatant hiding?

Why did McCain suddenly get the brilliant idea to suspend his campaign and go to Washington to help? Why didn't he think of this immediately when the crisis first blew up, if he is always thinking about what's best for the country? Oh, right, now he's 10 points down and needs to look presidential...

  7. MCCAIN NO MORE!!! PLEASE

CAN NOT THE REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT FOCUS ON TWO THINGS AT ONCE (A DEBATE AND A “MEETING”)? JUST IN CASE MR. MCCAIN HAS NOT NOTICED THERE WILL BE VERY FEW TIMES AS A PRESIDENT WHERE HE WILL BE ABLE TO FOCUS ON “ONE” THING AT A TIME.

    POINT # 2

JOHN MCCAIN WANTS US TO TRUST THAT GOVENOR PALIN CAN HANDLE THE COUNTRY, BUT HE IS AFRAID FOR HER TO HANDLE THE MEDIA, NEVER ALLOWING HER TO TAKE QUESTIONS IN AN OPEN FORUM. IF JOHN MCCAIN FEARS THAT MRS. PALIN MAY MESS UP HIS CAMPAIGN, WHY SHOULDN’T WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, NOT FEAR THAT SHE WILL MESS UP THE COUNTRY?

THIS CAMPAIGN IS BECOMING REALLY SAD!!!!!

Furthermore, there is no need for a VP debate. It would detract from the really important issues at hand, like the economy.

Who the heck does McCain think he is, God? I don't care if his candidate isn't ready. That's his problem and he needs to stop trying to move everything that has been scheduled for a year around to satisfy his own shortcomings.

Someone tell this spoiled rotten rich dude "no!" for once!

So that's the real reason why he wanted to suspend his campaign and delay the debate. Failin' isn't ready for the debate and needs more time!

I agree with Obama-a President should be able to handle more than 1 thing at a time! (I also think McCain needs more time to study up on the economy)

He cannot multi-task and wants to be a leader. He cannot concentrate on more than one issue at a time.

**They probably did not get a chance to steal Obama's debate talking points.

Simple I agree if he doesn't want the debate friday than move the VP debate to that date and move Friday's debate to the VP date. unless they think they cannot get Ms. palin up to speed in that time frame of course.....

Makes you wonder if this wasn't the intent of the whole stunt to begin with. Keep her from reporters and keep her from debating.

What a coward! Cheap, tawdry political stunt! Don't fall for it, Barack! The American people now really see McCain for the transparent political hack he is.

This is a clever political maneuver and nothing else. Give us a break please. Are we expected to belive that the debate will keep these two men from fulfilling their obligations in addressing the financial crisis?
No way. This is a pathetic political ploy designed to put Obama in a no-win situation. I think Obama should tell them where to go!
