McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate

(CNN) - McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday.

Graham says the McCain camp is well aware of the position of the Obama campaign and the debate commission that the debate should go on as planned - but both he and another senior McCain adviser insist the Republican nominee will not go to the debate Friday if there's no deal on the bailout.

What happened John Mc/shame or no shame?
Another lye, another spin. Why postpone the debates? What’s next postpone an election because you and your lying VP are big nothing-both of you.
    That is unspeakable.
    Please vote Obama/Biden

It seems to me that the repugs economic knowledge is limited to cutting taxes for the wealthy.

We have been in Iraq for about six years. We are spending $10 Billions a month or we have spent a total of $720 Billions.

The tax payers need to come up with another $700 Billions to save our economy according to this republican administration.... I must be dreaming! No Iraq war, no crisis....

Wow! He's really scrambling to get more time to prep. Just one question: When he "doesn't really know much about the economy," what exactly is he going to do to help??

    Stick to the trail McCain.

McCain is nothing short of a coward!. This is a political stunt. He's trying to dictate the pace of the campaign. Sen. Obama should show up at the debate no matter what. McCain gets more and more disgusting each day! He does not have leadership qualities.

McCain is laughable. He is going to go down in flames in his debate. McCain knows he has an utterly unqualified VP candidate and want to keep her away from direct Q&A. I had no idea McCain was this pathetic. Feeble and unworthy of my vote yes, but I had no idea he was this pathetic to hide behind a banking fiasco. If anything IT IS WHY HE SHOULD BE ACTING AS A LEADER AND DEBATING THIS #1 ISSUE! Hide McCain. Crawl in your hole with Geritol and hide.

I say no way!! If John McCain won't show up for the debate Friday night, then Obama should be there and ready to speak to the American people on the economy as well as foreign policy. The McCain campaign is trying their best to keep the vice-presidential debate from happening because they know Palin is not ready, Good grief, what political stunts McCain and the Republicans are pulling!

    Form the AP newswire:

"Even as McCain said he was putting the good of the country ahead of politics, his surprise announcement was clearly political. It was an attempt to try to outmaneuver Obama on an issue in which he's trailing, the economy, as the Democrat gains in polls. He quickly went before TV cameras minutes after speaking with Obama and before the two campaigns had hammered out a joint statement expressing that Congress should act urgently on the bailout."

Now the plot thickens. Are we cancelling the VP debates also? McCain is really stupid. He will NEVER live this down.

Oh, I see. This is all about Sarah Palin and her not being ready. The McCain campaign is willing to lose 5 million dollars for a University in Mississippi?

Pathetic. Unpresidential. You are a shame Senator McCain. I mean a sham.

So John McCain thinks he can dictate how things are going to be ehh?

Glad we've gotten this insight into how he would attempt to govern as president. Strikes me much in same the way as George Bush's "cowboy diplomacy" did. The height of arrogance.

Senator Obama, turn the tables on him. Be a kinder and gentler candidate but make sure you appear at a couple of bonfire rallys in Pennsylvania and Ohio on Friday if he refuses to debate. Use some video of McCain's own words and them "debate" him that way.

Stay above the fray but hit him repeatedly on the issues during this stalling period.

UNBELIEVABLE...neither Obama no McCain has any legislative role in this matter. There's no reason whatsoever to postpone a 2 hr debate on a Friday night. LEARN HOW TO MULTI-TASK.

He wants to postpone it because he's not ready to answer the economic questions that he is surely to get asked! He is really starting to look like Chicken Little!

So now I have the angel and devil on my shoulder....

The angel says if the Presidential debate is postponed, then moving it the date of the VP debate makes sense in some way. Venue already established, etc..

The devil says that this is the biggest scam in the history of politics. McCain is desperate and trying to use the economic situation as a political tool. Can't get to a debate....yeah right! They want to postpone the VP debate too because Sarah Palin is not ready.

The devil seems to be winning right now.
