McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate

(CNN) - McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday.

Graham says the McCain camp is well aware of the position of the Obama campaign and the debate commission that the debate should go on as planned - but both he and another senior McCain adviser insist the Republican nominee will not go to the debate Friday if there's no deal on the bailout.

This is making McCain look like such a coward. He is just afraid to debate now that Obama has a clear advantage.

News Flash McCain. She does not have to make any decisions on the bailout. She should be obligated to debate.

    WOW:

McCain wants to look like he is the savior of the economy when he is falling behind in the polls. If is just a calculated political tactic to shift support toward him. It won't work because I think that American people are smarter than that and HE will lose on this and will be voted down in November. McCain is not able to rescue himself....

Man what a convenient plan – cancel on Friday, keep Palin under wraps even longer, and refuse to talk to the American people about how McCain would lead us out of this mess. Is this who we want in the White House?

This is Political Posturing because Palin isnt ready yet. The only thing that changed today concerning the bail-out is the poll numbers. Stock market hung tight today....it is the nature of the stock market to fluxuate. GET REAL MCCAIN......................Multi-task and do the dang debate!!!! We have been fooled before..NOT THIS TIME

Great. So what exactly is McSame going to do if he is elected and there is a huge crisis?? Suspend his presidency?

This is getting ridiculous. Show us some LEADERSHIP McCain, or get out of the kitchen.

    They are so full of......
If the American public buy this Bush like tactic-then you deserve to have Mccain & Palin.
He is acting very irrationally...now trying to cover himself (no debate this week-and taking himself out of the game)...And by changing the VP debate, he is admitting that Palin is not ready for her debate-seeing that the most that came out of her international meetings was that she is "gorgeous"!
I guess it is time to retool...oh what a tool!

Oh how convenient. I wonder if that was their intention all along.

I find it really telling how The McCain camp has NO I repeat, NO confidance in there VP pick. They love to talk her up, but they will lie through their teeth to make sure nobody actually hears her speak.

    I'm ashamed

Pulling the fire alarm before the hard test.

What on earth does John McCain thinks he's going to do in Washington to help this mess? Propose more deregulation like he's done for the past 20 years? What a pathetic political stunt.

So THAT was why he wanted to delay the Presidential Candidates' debate.

Because Sarah Palin is (surprise surprise) NOT READY!

The Republicans are apparently trying to avoid a debate between VP nominees Biden and Palin. Now why would they not want VP nominee Palin in worldwide TV in a debate with Joe Biden? You think they might be afraid she might say something unscripted?

No way!!!!!!! The President of the free world needs to take care of more than one thing at a time. I used to be for McCain but this is sad. I cannot belive there are that many utterly blind people in the US that they can still support this man. I doubt any McCain supporters will issue any valid argument to support him. Just make up make belive smears about Obama. What a sad day for America.

So they finally figured out that she is hopeless? Maybe they will need to postpone the VP debate the 2nd time in order to accommodate Bristol's wedding plans?

So neither of them can debate as scheduled? As candidates for president and vice president of the United States, they should be able to do more than one thing at a time. They have staffs to help them. If they can't do their jobs as senator or governor while campaigning, perhaps they should not be running for the White House in the first place?
