Maverick? When it comes to Senator McCain just drop the "m-a-v-e" and put a "t" in front of the "rick" ! MCCAIN is full of tricks and that is why all of his tricks backfire! Isn't it just too ironic that Senator Obama spoke to him about 2:30pm and shortly after 3:00pm, McCain is giving a statement like it was his idea to "come" together and give a joint statement? Senator McCain is only interested in one agenda and that agenda is not the American people, that agenda is himself! Yes, I acknowledge that he was a POW, but what else can I can for him that would make one think that he is "presidential"?

I'm "inclined" to think this makes Obama look like he is more interested in furthering his own campaign instead actually working to help solve a very real, very pressing problem. I don't have a lot of faith in someone who puts themselves first over the other 300 million of us.

Why can't he show up for the debate, answer questions liek a true statesman, and also run his senate office?

By looking at all the times Obama voted over the past one and half years he should be allowed one more time to case his none vote he only hold about 400 of those out of 600 times to vote so why not waste some more tax payers money. Our next president will not only have to manage this mess (this is not a short term crisis) but will have to manage the rest of the catasrophe's left behind by this administration. We have endured months of PETTY POLITICS. Now I want to hear about the issues.

If a candidate cannot participate in the debate and keep up with this economic meltdown then he needs excuse himself from the race for president.

The idea from Mccain of delaying the debates is a trap and this is how I see it:

1. If Obama agrees to the idea of delaying the debates, the mccain campaign will pick on him for being a follower and for mccain being the real leader and maverick showing leadership duirng a time of crisis

2. If Obama declines to the idea, the republicans will accuse him of putting politics before country especially during a time of crisis.

either way, the republicans are up to no good. So Obama should say no and let the mccain campaign spew all they want and let the debates go ahead.

We still need to have a campaign, we still need to have the debates. We are constitutionally required to have an election. It seems the electoral model of 'primary, debate, vote' is being tossed aside in favor of 'election by soundbite'. I can't see why they can't just move the debate to Washington, D.C., in some basement alcove if time is of such essence. If Congress can vote, and take junkets at the same time, they can handle a real crisis and debate our future at the same time. It's called "multi-tasking".

Bring on the debate!

The American public has a right to see and hear this debate to learn everything possible before choosing who will lead this nation.

And it is time that McCain's campaign stop shielding Palin from the press. The press doesn't have to show "deference". No questions, NO CAMERAS!

I am quite sure that my candidate can multi-task, dealing with current issues while attending a debate. He's ready. He has the right judgment and anyone who follows the news can see that.

Is John McCain not ready to debate? Did the dog eat his cliff notes? Can he not focus on more than one thing at a time?

If he's not ready to debate Friday, why should we think he's ready to lead come next January?

McCain getting cold feet already!!!! Needs to postpone the debate.

McCain is desperately trying to push back the debates to give himself more time to prepare for 'fixing the economy'.

There are enough very talented people working on the problem so John, your planned debate for President does not need to be postponed.

If he's not ready to debate then he's not ready to be President. Deadlines happen. Events happen. You can't just push things back because you're not ready. The President MUST be able to handle more than ONE thing at a time. This debate should not be postponed for his personal reasons.

Why don't they just change this debate to Economic issues rather than national security?

That way everybody wins, and everyone can see how lost McCain is when it comes to these issues. He's just trying to pull a Bush, by claiming disaster rather than facing a difficult discussion.
