Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari told Palin she's gorgeous.

NEW YORK (CNN) – Sarah Palin and the foreign leaders she has met with in New York have said very little to reporters over the last two days, but the press happened to be in the room on Wednesday for one eyebrow-raising exchange, as the new president of Pakistan lavished praise on Palin's looks.

On entering a room filled with several Pakistani officials this afternoon, Palin was immediately greeted by Sherry Rehman, the country's Information Minister.

"And how does one keep looking that good when one is that busy?," Rehman asked, drawing friendly laughter from the room when she complimented Palin.

"Oh, thank you," Palin said.

Pakistan's recently-elected president, Asif Ali Zardari, entered the room seconds later. Palin rose to shake his hand, saying she was “honored” to meet him.

Zardari then called her "gorgeous" and said: "Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you."

"You are so nice," Palin said, smiling. "Thank you."

A handler from Zardari's entourage then told the two politicians to keep shaking hands for the cameras.

"If he's insisting, I might hug," Zardari said. Palin smiled politely.

The Alaska governor did not answer questions from reporters at her first two appearances on Wednesday, when she joined McCain in meetings with Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili and Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko, and then traveled downtown to meet with Iraqi president Jalal Talabani.

But she did offer brief remarks to a reporter at the Zardari meeting who asked about her day.

"It's going great," Palin said. "These meetings are very informative and helpful, and a lot of good people sharing appreciation for America."

gotta LOVE that hard - hitting stuff !

jimmy from salt lake city, UT   September 24th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

lol..funny..that's all they talk about..they don't want the press closer because I want to hear about what she thinks of the "Bush doctrine" now that there is a new Pakistani Leader.

Dolores Spears   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Does Governor Palin's good looks mean she can run the country? Does the fact that foreign leaders think she is "gorgeous" reason to vote for her?

gringo   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

"If he's insisting, I might hug", Hillarious, with McCain and Palin winning (because of deep racism), you american are in for a heck of a ride.

Lynn   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Gorgeous……..Maybe that is all that it takes to wooo the male population. A president elected because she is considered gorgeous. From now on candidates may be put into offfice by their looks. Well, then Obama will be president….he is really good looking.

Jason   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Creepy!

VA 4 Obama   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Well, looks like they're just confirming everything that we're saying over here - she's all looks.

Paizley   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

LOL. How sexist of him to call her pretty. Speed dating foreign relations style.

PC   September 24th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

the only qualification I need her to have! what could go wrong with such a gorgeous VP? oops was that sexist?

Leslie   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Ahhh! How cute! The pretty liar with no brain!

We really know how she got where she is, don't we?

She is a disgrace to all women who have had to work hard to make it to where they are.

ONE MORE REASON WHY I AM VOTING OBAMA/BIDEN '08

LoooseyGooosey   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Ohhhh boy, WOW! SHE IS HOT!!!

And I can't wait for that Campbell Brown/Sarah Palin catfight.., I mean unbiased interview.

catawungus   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Trust me, he would have said the same thing had it been Paris Hilton. The smile, perhaps, would have been bigger. Oh, and his status back home would have been much higher.

This was fun. Now, is she smart enough, able enough to actually answer a real question? Or just 'ready to lead'?

Emily   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Um, the "whole of America" is NOT in love with her.

Lala   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Are you kidding me ? She is gorgeous… Can't you all see what that is all about ? They won't take her seriously at world forums !!!!

Anne   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

I guess there is no accounting for taste but if they consider everything else such as Obama's sweetie comment sexist then so is telling pain in that she is gorgeous.

Jerry Ohio   September 24th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

This is the waste of time to see someone who runn ing for VP do not answer question from the media it ashame to see this happen how we going to know what she speak about foreign policy

Dennis Lee Hoffman, citizen of the world   September 24th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Maybe she can just sleep her way to foreign policy experience

Nan in Nevada   September 24th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

How sad - sex sells worldwide! Poor little Sarah is really being taken advantage of!!!!! She should have accepted this pathetic role with her eyes open. Oh, they probably were open but she is just so dumb she let Grampy play her for the fool she is!

Candace- Texas   September 24th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

That is why McCain picked her…becuase she is "gorgeous"…have you not noticed that McCain has a thing for beautiful women???? His two wives were former models and now his VP is a former beauty queen….this guy does not need to run this country…he loves money and beautiful women, and lots of power…give him the White House and he will gamble us all away….

Jerry in Boston   September 24th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Sorry, did i miss something?

Is Palin now in the running to be America's next top VP?

Steve   September 24th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Pretty freaking sad. Whether she's qualified to be VP or not, it says very little for the Pakistani delegation. The first comment was fine, the other ones went towards creepy very quickly.

Rob - WA   September 24th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Oh my LORD. PUKE!!!!!!!!

lizzie   September 24th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Prob. not Obama or McCain either.

All looks no substance.

Ben   September 24th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

The British Newspaper has reported that Palin had an affair with her husband's buddy. Since the incident, the relationship with the friend has been cut. The British newspaper seems to have evidence. Can anyone pick up on this story? Is there another cover up?

smithonpolitics   September 24th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Talk about inappropriate. Watch the Republicans blame this on Democrats.

MikeH   September 24th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Put a thought balloon over Sarah's head that reads "Oh Asif, you sexist pig you. How much money do you have?"

Cyndi in Ohio   September 24th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Just goes to show that none of the foreign leaders and dignitaries will ever take her seriously! The majority of them do not even respect or value women any way, so I cannot envision them sitting down talking with her about anything important. All she is to them is a pretty face.

What a joke…this was just a publicity stunt and a photo op!

James   September 24th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

His comments are telling.

Where are the claims of sexism?

I have never heard comments like this in reference to Condi Rice.

She is not taken seriously by other leaders. There is no starting point that appears to be based on mutual respect.

There is not a person alive who thinks that it is acceptable to stop paying your mortgage, the electric bill, or stop feeding your kids and getting them to school on time just because your mother is on life support in the hospital.

McCain, Obama, and all of Congress are going to be basing decisions on being counselled and getting the "cliff note" explanation of what's going on.

There is no need for the debate to be suspended.

This is the same as the time out after time out at the end of the game to stretch out the game and delay the inevitable in hopes of some type of comeback.

Debate on!

frances   September 24th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Not only is she gorgeous she is a extremely likable. Not only that she
is someone we can trust. An authentic American.

Anon   September 24th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

That's too much, to the point of being inappropriate. For the first time I am feeling bad for Gov. Palin…

I'm going to throw up….Ugh….They only see her for the beauty not the brains….

I feel better already....   September 24th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I guess this puts to bed whether she's qualified to lead our great country.

Being "gorgeous" is clearly the #1 qualification I look for in the next Prez of the US……

MD in Oklahoma   September 24th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

First children and now looks; these are really important issues being discussed!

"Zardari then called her "gorgeous" and said: "Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you." It's obvious he is not paying attention to our news coverage, or maybe he's watching FOX news.

That's not what I would call a comment of respect. She isn't, and won't be taken seriously, she's McCain's pretty poodle. (That's the perception, whether it's true or not, I don't what's in the mind of individuals).

HyperD   September 24th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Ilona from Alberta   September 24th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

I'll bet the Republican's will be outraged by this treatment of their VP candidate.
Too bad gorgeous is not a foreign policy credential and lipstick won't do the trick.

Elizabeth in Texas   September 24th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Blah.

Denise   September 24th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

I thought the press not being allowed in "was a mistake"? That's what the McCain campaign said following the Karzai meeting. So, how does that same mistake happen again?

It is PATHETIC that she can not answer questions from the media. It is un-American. And all we get to hear about is that she talked to Karzai about his kid, and that the Pakistani president think she's gorgeous? HA! This is a freaking joke. If Americans vote for McCain, they are ridiculous. He will die, and SHE will be your President.

here it comes...lol   September 24th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

haha..and so it begins. If the right wings think this woman will be respected among world leaders, tespecially in the muslim and arab world, they better think again…lol. nothing more than a pin up doll.

Giggle Giggle… Geez as a women I am disgusted that they "handle" her like she is an idiot. Don't talk… just look pretty. McCain is such a womanizer and his votes on women's issues prove he holds all women in as much disdain as he treats Palin. This is not a good example of how Palin will negotiate with foreign leaders. The pretty wears off as soon as the issues come to the table and McCain won't even let her talk to the press, let alone work with foreign leaders. What a pretty little VP she will make for his trophy cabinet though.

Mary   September 24th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Did someone share with him that "the whole of America" isn't necessarily Palin-crazy? Besides, beauty really is only skin deep. No one is denying she's a beautiful woman. However, it does not qualify one to be a hair's breadth away from being the president of our great country.

Ann from Idaho   September 24th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Jo   September 24th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Dear CNN,

I am so troubled by Sarah Palin's visit to the UN to meet with world leaders that I am going to comment on it. Since when do presidential and vice presidential nominees conduct "field trips" to get a taste of world politics? It is humorous for Palin to think that her lack of experience cannot be mended with a field trip to the UN to meet with world leaders. In addition, I believe that the McCain/Palin campaign has truly turned into a drama circus. The visit to the UN with all the camera shots showing Palin sitting with leaders seems no more than pure show business, and I think it is outrageous for her to think American leadership is such.

Her lack of experience portrays the belief that anyone can run Washington and it is upsetting to think that our American leadership has come to that.

sexism?   September 24th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

but when obama/biden say anything about her in any way its sexist? huh what double standard? two faced? huh

Pat Murphy   September 24th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

McCain is grand standing & politicizing this very serious subject. If he cared about the public and was really serious he would quietly reached out to Obama before making any independent public announcement about campaign suspension. I resent it. It's just another insult to the intelligence of the voters as well as the refusal to let his cloistered vice presidential candidate freely speak to the press.

The McCain campaign calls her the " hottest VP"….as if being hot was a requirement to be VP.

she is gorgeous but, unlike Hillary Clinton, she does not have anything else….i mean she is someone who beleives that seing Russia from her home is foreign policy experience….see what i mean…

Thats all they can say?   September 24th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Is that she's pretty?

hmmm, seems like the same consensus as America…and most republians i talk to who always end with "YEAH, BUT SHE'S HOT!"

ron   September 24th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

well maybe she could put on something sexy if she needs to make any kind of foreign policy decisions.

Cincy voter   September 24th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Hey, CNN, report some REAL news! No one cares about silly fluff! This country is in the midst of an economic melt down and you report on the President of Pakistan calling Palin gorgeous??? Get real.

America is not crazy about Palin. The only people who are happen to be right wing partisan morons who enjoy lying, mudslinging empty suits like the Barbie-bot because she reminds them so much of Bush!

Like I said before THIS is NOT a beauty contest!!!!
its a vote for one of the highest offices in the land and Capbell Brown is right…. release Palin to the media!!!!

TIRED OF THE GOP   September 24th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I'm sorry but what a load of…. fill in the blank. _______

Is this a SNL dream come true, yea but a bad dream to us americans who are tired of the GOP as they are playing games. Smoke and mirrors no more. Let's take back the power and vote them out on Nov 4th.

Steve   September 24th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

HAHHAHAHA!

She's been reduced to eye candy.

Jennifer   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I havent laughed so hard in a long time. All he seemed to care about was her looks. Gosh, if that was all it takes, G'W'B should have got a facelift and pumps. We would have world peace by now!

catya   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Will Fox go crazy over that "sexist' remark?

Eugene   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

How do you say, "I'm about to puke" in Urdu?

USAF Staff Sergeant   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Oh.. wow now she DOES have foreign policy experience. That did it for me, I'm voting for McCain / Palin now for sure!

Sarcasm….

Lisa in NC   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Dan - Orlando   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Hey GOP

I thought complimenting her on her looks was sexist. Where's your outrage????

ohio   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

hahaha this is getting tooooooooo funny toooooo meeeeeeee

Recipe for Moose Chunk Stew   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Most of the old guys I know are voting for her for that very reason. They look at her the same way McSlimey does. They have abandoned their political ideology for something much more base. Who ever said that THINKING had anything to do with decision making. Idiots.

OBAMA SUPPORTER IN IOWA   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

We all know the being gorgeous is a qualification for Vice-President. Come on CNN. Report something of substance.

Nevada Mom   September 24th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

this is how seriously the world takes her…

Jeremy   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

This just shows how little she is respected.

Mike D. in San Diego   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

The "whole of America is crazy" about Palin Mr. Zadari??? I'm pretty sure I'm not and I think there are others. Its nice to see that America isn't the only one stuck with shallow leaders. In these troubled times, I'll take ugly with a brain over gorgeous any day.

KS   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

What a JOKE!!!!!

Now the Republicans should be ashamed of the comments their candidate is receiving from a Muslim leader -

But Wait, Looks like she is thrilled to hear the appreciation for America from the borrowers whose main focus is the extract our tax-payers money and she should have been informed that these Heads of States will always praise America no matter what.

If this is what she considers helpful and informative foreign policy experience, she should have met with French, German and Russian Head of States. Who knows, she would have fainted!!!

Mark Hudson   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

An added bonus for implementing our foreign relations goals. McCain/Palin08; Hillary 2012!

OMG!!! even the world leaders do not take this woman seriously!!
lets get real here and have her speak with the press !! these leaders are laughing at America behind close doors!! This is truly a disgrace!!
McCain should be ashamed of himself anything to win.

VIRGINIA will be blue   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Isn't the Pakistani president suppose to be griefing for his deceased wife? I can smell scandal if they ever put this empty suit chick in the White House.

Marie C.   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

OH….BARF!!! I can't take this anymore. Not even world leaders take her seriously. And who said anything about the americans being crazy about her???

Chuck   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

We have important issues to consider as the current economic crises and McCain is wanting to suspend his campaign and the debates and you report this crap.

CM   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

And this is supposed to help her and America how?

Dave   September 24th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Didn't the McCain campaign jump all over Obama when he did his world tour. Didn't they say things like he's acting like he's president already.
Um…what the heck is all this about then?

Unshrub   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but that's good enough for me for her to be VP or President. NOT

If I have the choice or her being gorgeous or Hillary being intelligent I would take Hillary any day.

anonymoose   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

this is too funny !!!!

Franky   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Ohhh my! Watch out Sarah!! The Middle East has very distinctive ways to treat the ladies…TRUST ME! LOL!!

Darko   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

THIS! is why the McCain camp didn't want the press in the room. This is the kind of crap they keep reporting on. She's a beautiful woman - I know, it's amazing - but…GET OVER IT and get to the real issues.

Jacqueline for Obama/Biden 08!   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Weren't the Republicans deeply offended a few weeks ago when Joe Biden called her good looking? Didn't they consider it "sexist" when he said it?

karen-phoenix   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

This is for the president of the United States of America!!! NOT Miss America!!! Pelin get real!!!!

Anne E.   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Carly Fiorina must be positively apoplectic.

jb   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I would never vote for her, but she is bang'n.

People make no sense   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

She is pretty so what does that have to do with her experience. What does it say about us if a foreign official calls her "gorgeous" and says: "Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you."

What does looks have to do with her prepardness to be the V.P.? Isn't that sexist, women?

So instead of conducting business, he's going to try to get in her pants/skirt.

deb in PA suburbs   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Quite telling. I doubt he would have said such a thing if she presented as a high quality knowlegeable leader. Commenting on someone's looks is not done with people with credibilty no matter how they look. When he says her looks are why so many Amereicans love her its a statement that there is no beef there under the surface. Looks like another backfire on the McCain campaign.

Carlos   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Take her to Pakistan !!! she will do very well there….

Greg, NY   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I smell the mother of all sex scandals if they get elected!

leslie song   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

"a lot of good people sharing appreciation for America"

duh! what's that supposed to mean?

Lila   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Wow. What a productive meeting.

bert   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

This is a mess and we need to take a real good look at the way McCain is keeping us from making an informed decision of the next President of the United States of America. This country makes way too much money to let a little 700 Billion dollar loan get in the way of the RACE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE!!! The GOP are always using fear to get anything done. They used fear to get us in this wayward WAR that has killed more than four thousand Americans. The way the GOP has been as of late makes you want to see charges brought up against Bush. The GOP needs to stop using fear to get us motivated and stop avoiding the media and the American people. Vote for Obama 08 and 2012.
.

America think for you   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

$700 billion to bail out wall street how about main street? America do you realize that that $700 billion that you will spend will be use to bail out Chinese banks and other foreign banks bad business and then they will sell these business back to us American. We should not let this to happen because the same mess will come back again in wall street. Wall Street greed, big CEO Payout need to have control over them. This $700 billion just show you that the republicans do not care. Congress please do not let George Bush rush you and us American into this mess. Bush has four months in power and he does not care of whatever mess that $700 billion will make.
Is that package has a plan to bail out main street as well? The economy cannot run good without main street confidence. If main street do not have money that $700 billions is a waste.

Cam   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Oh my god…….SAD…….I see the McCain foreign policy shaping up. If you follow us into attacking Iran, Russia, and any other country we hate, we will let you hug Palin!

Cindy   September 24th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

This I'm sure won't seen by the McCain campaign as sexist? right? Only if Obama had said something like that…

What crap!

Sarah/McCain- THANKS BUT NO THANKS!

Sharon   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

WHO'S SEXIST NOW DOES THAT MEAN THAT PALIN CAN'T TALK TO PAKISTAN NOW.

Danny in Chicago   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Now we KNOW Pakistan is in league with the Republicans! Let's be truthful - Palin is NOT that attractive. Sure, she is pretty, but I could find a gaggle of better lookers on the streets of Chicago in one afternoon (and they probably would know more about this country too!)

Come on….this is the Pakistani govt playing games with the US people. Another clue that Osama Bin Laden (remember him?) is hiding in their (and the Republicans) embrace.

The Truth is the truth - can you take it?

I can see that foreign leaders are really taking Palin seriously…

Alice   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

What a sexist.

Grandma for O   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Well lets see. She's been meeting with world leaders since yesterday and what little bit have they talked about?

Babies and her looks. With two wars, a country wide/soon to be world wide financial melt down, health care crisis, here and abroad and this is the depth of conversation.

Pathetic!

Moe, Hamilton, ON   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

hahaha, it looks like Palin's looks are still getting her somewhere, but hopefully not to the VP office.

'08 Vote Obama   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

I live in Alaska and for those voters out there that think you have a gem just because she's a women or because she is a Republican or what ever reason you justify to yourselves that she is a good choice let me tell you, here in Alaska we has Alaskans are learning more and more each day about this women.

She has lied why she fired Walt Monegan, she has made bad economic choices for Wasilla and Alaska has a whole, leaving them in dept. Wake Up, if Alaska is getting smarter then so should the rest of nation! Educate yourselves and just think, "Do I want to leave this country better or worse then it is now for our children and grandchildren?"

This crash course that Palin is taking/promoted to do is unimpressive! It will hold no ground come election day, and the McCain campaign will soon see that it was a mistake!

Frank   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Oh but if Obama or any Dem said that it would be called sexist………………….Sarah Palin makes me want to puke !!

Don   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

This is a pure joke and the media has taken the bait and ran with it. Look CNN these people are users and will do or say anything to win this election. Sara is not qualified to meet these leaders and have them to think that we are all a bunch of gun toting hicks.

Chuck   September 24th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

Wow…now if this had been made by a democrat the McCain campaign would be blasting on every station how sexist it was. Just goes to show that nobody takes this women seriously, he would have never made such comments toward Hillary b/c she is a serious politician not some political eye candy or the "hot vp" as the republicans called her!

Oh how sexist!!! Ha Ha, Well I guess that's Why McCAIN PICKED HER. Everbody does not love Sarah Palin.

Obama/Biden 08

Yeah... gorgeous   September 24th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Yep, that's right, she would be a heartbeat away from the presidency with nothing to add to the table, but hey at least she's gorgeous. What a pandering to the American people by McBush, instead of picking a running mate that is ready, he picks one that is likable and that will draw attention for all the wrong reasons. And then the republicans have the guts to say the democrats are being sexist! Wow, you wont even let Palin talk to the press, she is on this ticket for show, and the democrats are the sexist ones, increadible conclusion!

MEP   September 24th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

pro-choice wins   September 24th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Why doesn't she just move to Pakistan?

Pakistan treats women as inferiors, so it will make sense for Sarach to go there, because the press will not bother to ask her important questions.
