i have a better proposal and it will cost less than 700B. Every American (not foreignors) that are on the verge of losing their primary residence because they cannot pay their mortgage would sell their home to a govt agency for the amount of the mtg and the agency would sell it back to them for $1.00, the money would then go back to the bank that lent the money and they would have money to lend to someone else with better credit and an actual job. This way the money goes directly where it is needed and the homeowner now free from a mortgage, gets to keep his house, feed his or her children and pay for gas, etc, etc.

The republicans are trying to put a wrench in this for mccain---bottom line, its not that mccain doesnt want to debate obama-what he wants is palin not to debate next week!
his idea is if he could adjust the schedule a little (by having the presidential debate on the 2nd) & maybe even add another presidential debate-which mean they would have to cancel one of them-which olne do you think they would cancel...you got it Pontiac, it would be the vp debate!
REMEMBER THE REPUBLICANS,INCLUDING MCCAIN, CAUSED THIS MESS!
Mccains house of cards are falling...we realize more & more that palin is not up for the job...we are finding out that mccain is not up for the job---even his campaign manager is looking dirtier & dirtier with this whole fannie & freddie lobbying-mcccain is just trying to keep his head above water!
Please stop giving him the title as honorable---that may of been 40 years ago---but now...come one!

This is not the time to "cut and run" go to the debates and discuss the issues most important to us, the voters. We have a right to hear from you before we decide who to hire. That goes for Sarah too. You can't hide forever!

SHAME ON YOU, SEN. MCCAIN!!! This is exactly what so many members of congress predicted - you injected politics into a crisis. This is the most juvenile, contrived and ridiculous stunt you have pulled to date. McCain has lost all credibility, integrity and yes, HONOR. As an American, I am offended by your actions today.

Of course there is no agreement on the Republican side, they are stalling so they can not debate and to also mess with the election.

I say F them already, I am so sick of this administration and the Republicans, they make me want to puke.

McCain just steals ideas from Obama and recycles them for himself, sometimes in the same day speeches, really sad.

Fact: Both Democrat and Republican leaders in the House and the Senate stated publicly at lunch that a deal, in principle, was made for resolving the immediate financial crisis.

This deal was made prior to McCain coming on the scene.

Fact: A meeting at the White House results in one of the Republican leaders injecting a completely new set of requests, on behalf of the House Republicans, without any prenotification!

This surprise set of Republican requests were, in part, based upon a meeting that McCain that had with the Republicans.

Conclusion: The process for coming to a bipartisan agreement for resolving the financial crisis has been severely upset by McCain coming in to process he had no previous participation.

Please, America, see this for what it is........

The world certainly does.

Wait, Obama didn't swoop in with his six-point plan (or is it five-point now) and fix everything lickety-split? I love how this is all McCain's fault - Obama was in that room too, people. A little levity is in order. We haven't heard anything yet, how do you know Obama wasn't a proponent of scrapping the bill?

Remeber when Clinton signed the Financial Services Modernization Act in 1999? I can't help but wonder if that had anything to do with the pickle we're in now. Maybe it was McCain masked as Clinton! And then he went down to the basement of the WH to work on his weather machine to bring hurricanes to gulf region.

Face it, we all screwed up - Dems, Repubs, corporations, CEOs, lenders, and those people who borrowed way too much money that they couldn't afford to pay back who are now looking for a handout to save their butts. Good for our government for taking more time to do a thorough analysis of the solutions and their probable outcomes.

I like Obama and McCain talking on how to proceed with the issue at hand. They McCain pulling a sucker punch 10 mins. later to the press that he has been avoiding for the past 6 weeks.

No leadership there
No honesty
No honor

America deserves better than self serving John McCain

Obama and Biden….let's debate Friday even though our country needs us.

Morons…
___________

Oh no, I got a better idea... why don't we show up in Washington for a photo-op, not say a single word throughout the entire meeting and then have some of our Republican cronies veto the deal.

With fools like you to follow blindly, it's no wonder that the Republicans have taken this country into hell.

Consequences of waiting on a bailout: Possibly another depression.
Consequences of delaying the debate; Nada
McCain's plan: Fix the problem now.
Obama's plan: Talk
Could the Dems have picked anyone who demonstrates less leadership ability? No.

President McCain's Leadership is admired?

Huh???? The guy was still his old stubborn self and said "fundamentals of the economy are strong" last week.

McCain has ZERO judgement. He makes wrong decisions and tries to fix it later on. That's his track record.

I've always tried my best to be politically correct in these blogs, but no more. I'm 54. I saw Kennedy murdered. I saw King killed. I saw McCain get away with a slap on the wrist for the Keatiing 5 scandal. I witnessed Bush steal an election. Now I have a ringside seat watching you all spin Obama's superior qualities, character and ability into somehow being too smart and cool headed. I'm watching as you say he's not the guy you want to have drinks with (who wants to see the president in a local bar pounding shots?). Watching as you say Sarah Palin is in the same league even though she took 6 years and 5 schools to finish a 4 year program (some do it in 3 you know) So, I have to say this: If you white people don't elect Obama, you're racist and idiotic and this country deserves what it gets.

I am voting for Barack Obama. John McCain is not the solution he is the problem. If McCain had been doing his job for the last 20 plus years we as a country would not have these problems. I listened to Katie Couric interviewing Sarah Palin last night and Sarah could not come up with one thing John McCain has done thats good.

Video conferencing could have gotten more accomplished and could have saved Obama and McCain tons of time and money. I agree with Obama this is a easy multitask item using modern technology.

OOOps I forgot, McCain doesn't know how to send an email forget about using video communication equipment.

McCain's Republican party destroyed the economy. Now McCain try to fool the people by showing as a savior. So, far Mccain never admitted the faults of Bush administration but he voted with Bush 90%, thus McCain is also responsible for the current turmoil.

This is fun and idiotic!

in stead of kicking out 700 billion dollars to bail out the banking industry maybe the federal government should figure out how to get back all the decent paying jobs that the states have lost to NAFTA , then maybe these people that were given these loans could pay these morgages they were given,

What is with these GOP posters who say Obama is somehow not putting "country first" by wanting to debate AND resolve the financial crisis?

Do you honestly believe that McCain is spending every single waking second working feverishly on legislative text for a bailout bill? Do you honestly believe that two presidential candidates cannot spare ONE evening to fly to a debate to lay out their specific plans for leading the country for the next four years? Do you honestly believe it's impossible to walk and chew gum at the same time?

McCain did nothing else but make a mess of all this. They were almost ready to sign a deal (that would help taxpayers too) and he stepped in and made it more of a circus than a caucus.

McCain is only making things worse and avoiding the debate over this is just ridiculous. Current Presidents running re-elections in the middle of wars still continued with a debate!

Who does McCain think he is?! What an arrogant son of a B. I just can't stand this man. He says to trust him and that he keeps his commitments. McCain cancels with Letterman and instead meets with Couric (sneaky). Says he suspended his campaign but the ads are still rolling and his campaign on the ground is still in motion. McCain is such a phoney, fake and a liar. I can't trust him as far as I can through him. Get out of here NOW!!!! I'd rather keep Bush for another 4 years than this idiot.

which have been terrible abandoned by this current government!!!!!!

Yes, the good ole United States Constitution. Can we find lawmakers
that follow those rules to a tee.

I don't want a major player of the Keating 5 scandal having any input whatsoever in resolving this crisis. John McCain didn't learn anything from that except how to be a more effective crook.

the Debate must go on. I mean the show must go on. Let's have the Liberal Obama debate the Marxist Obama. He can switch sides on each answer. Just pretend he is in Pennsylvania for one answer than
Seattle on the next one. This should be fun. Better than SNL.

Of course Obama will be the first to comment. I'm sure he went there with a comment already prepared, before even hearing the facts. More canned politics by Obama.

HILLARY FOR MCCAIN '08!!!

oh geez...The world is on the brink of disaster and you have the dumbest guy in the room holding a meeting about the nations economic future. Not only is he really really dumb but he has lied to the world before. He (and the republican party) knows the President can get away with murder so they send him in front of America with that dumb look he always has on his face when he is telling a lie and tells everyone that the deal must be signed right now. Wasn't Colin Powell available?

Sentaor Dodd and the Dems blocking McCain's 05 legislation to overhaul Freddie and Fannie is the cause of this mess. Get rid of them and Freddie and Fannie...they're are an abomination in a free market.

Do you really trust THIS Congress to put forth a worthy bill in less than a week dealing with 700Billion dollars??? REALLY???

The treasury needs to buy the mortgages at penny's on the dollar, refinance those mortgages to the citizens, then sell them later on back to the private sector for a profit. Then use that profit to pay off current debts, like social security.

This is looking more and mroe like a Carl Rove politics. The Bush white house introduces a plan that they know will get support from the democrats, but will be strongly opposed by the public at large. While Bush, with nothing to lose, drags the democracts along in support of the bill, republican congressional nominees gain public support by opposing the bill. That's how to you save the conressional election for the republicans.

And what exactly is the hurry on this foreign policy debate? I don't get the rush- we have over a month until the election, but we need to get this financial mess addressed ASAP.

The liberals are just being stupid about this debate thing. Where were their cries when Obama backed out of the 10 town hall debates that he originally agreed to do?

How is McCain showing more leadership when he was sitting at the same table Obama was sitting at? The difference between the two is not a question of leadership, it's showmanship. They're both participating, but one thought it would be productive to grandstand a press conference and suspend his campaign. "Look everyoone!!! I'm putting country first! Watch me be a leader!!"
