Sen. McCain has not decided whether he will attend the debate Friday.

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign said Thursday evening the Arizona senator plans to stay in Washington overnight and has yet to decide on his travel plans Friday.

"Senator McCain will remain in DC tonight as he continues to take action in brokering a deal that will address the crisis as well as protect the taxpayer," the campaign said in a statement. "No further travel plans have been made at this point."

  2. Debates should continue

It's been said time and time again, don't you people get it McCain is not needed in Washington. Obama said it best when a President needs to know how to multi-task. I do it everyday, why can't McCain.

This is just to try and cancel the debate between Palin and Biden.

McCain has lost his spine. This is no way to run a campaign.

I dont understand why he wont just debate Obama, he wanted townhalls with Obama, but now that he has a chance to debate him, he ducks it. Whats going on?

For somebody who hates war, he's in no hurry to end the costly deadly war in Iraq – even if there are no WMDs there!

Well, McCain never was big on doing his homework!

    His reasoning does not compute!

If it is so important for McCain to forgo the debate and remain in Washington D.C. and solve our economic crisis, he should send Gov. Palin to the debate since she is ready to move right in and take over as President of the United states.

Hey Scott L, enough with the terrorist stuff...thats the last line you GOP zealots use when all else fails.

Presidential candidates have to debate 3 times. Thats what McCain is ducking now. They have gone on in the past without fail regardless of what is happening.

Obama doesn't owe McCain any townhall debates. He ran his campaign and McCain ran his. Obama just runs his better.

Obama can only win a debate if he is the only candidate, and then it would depend on his answers. The Saddleback forum was not good for him. I missed it, but when the Obama-bots started yelling McCain knew the answers in advance, I knew Obama had tanked. If he is the only one, who will they blame then? Oh yeah, the moderators were too hard on him. Isn't that what they blogged and complained about regarding one of the other debates? It took a skit from SNL to point out the bias in the media. Obama doesn't have much of a record to actually show much of a stance on anything. I will not be surprised to learn he won't vote yea or nay on this bailout. He'll most likely miss it because he's running for President and that is more important, to him.

You Repbulicans sound so stupid. Its no wonder Dubya was so close that he could steal two elections. John McCain has nothing to do with this deal and had nothing to do with this deal. He is not writing the legislation nor is anyone asking for his input. He is not going to be working tomorrow night at 9pm, handling the crisis and debating are two seperate issues. He will not be working tomorrow at 9pm, he can show up to the debate. Just because it wont be a room full of staged Republicans like his town hall meetings doesn't mean he shouldnt show up

MaCain wanted 10 town hall meetings not to debate, but he needed the exposure, he was not drawing a lot of people and the cheapest way to get your message accross is ask the popular candidate who draws tens of thousands of people to his events to show up with you.

It was a strategic move by the Obama's people to receive.

If Mr. McCain is a Scaredy-Cat then let him send in
his "Pit Bull" to debate Mr. Obama.
Talk about putting lipstick on an obvious campaign ruse.

McCain can't chew gum and walk at the same time, never mind give some intelligent input on the financial situation in Washington and have a debate. All you skeptics, are you keeping tabs on his rediculous behavior??? I think Palin is becoming a real pain in the butt for him and his campaign. I'll bet he admonishes himself every day for putting her on the ticket. He could use someone with a little intelligence right now. Oh yea, that's what she has.

Not only had he not read the deal, he hadn't even talked to congressional leaders. On top of that he hadn't even offered his own solution because he had no idea what was being done in Washington. Now he is sitting at his home in VA. To be honest, he is ill and we all know it. He should drop out. But he certainly not working on the economy...I mean, come on...he doesn't even understand it per his own words.

  19. Terrorist attack - please Scott

    Scott L September 25th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

McCain is NOT ducking. He has wanted to debate 10 times and Obama has said NO each time. If this was a terrorist attack you people would change your tune.

If it was a terrorist attack but it's NOT it's something McCain cannot fix and he is not even in the room with the people who are making the decisions.

It sounds like a lot of moneyand time has been spent in preparation for the debate. Possibly many small vendors could stand to lose out also. So much for McCain caring about regular people.

After all of McCains blustering of how tough he is, and how he wanted to debate, he is now trying to make lie and make an excuse to not attend. He has not suspended his campaign with ads running everywhere. Shall he now be called John Mc-Chicken McCain? McCain even lied to Letterman and got caught. Disgusting!
