The wife of a U.S. soldier serving in Iraq will join Michelle Obama at Friday night's debate.

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain has not yet confirmed whether he will participate in Friday night's presidential debate, but Barack Obama's campaign is moving forward with its plans for the event.

The campaign announced Thursday evening that Michelle Obama will be joined at the debate by Shannon Kendall, whose husband is currently serving his second tour in Iraq, according to a press release issued by the campaign Thursday evening. Kendall, a mother, met Michelle Obama during a recent roundtable with military families in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Friday's debate will focus on foreign policy, a topic agreed to by both presidential campaigns before the nation's financial system and broader economic issues took center stage two weeks ago.

Charlotte- We complained in the Saddleback Forum because McCain was pandering. Don't be ignorant..do your research. Obama has a LONG and EXTENSIVE record on a whole host of issues. Again, you show ignorance. Obama voted 'present' 130 times in the Illinois State Senate because it was common practice to do so. He has sponsored and voted over 830 bills and legislations. As an Obama supporter, I can tell you he will most likely vote yes to this bill.

This is nothing more than a political stunt by Obama and his weirdo wife. What kind of people would bump fists when the husband is chosen as their parties presidential candidate? Wow.

Mccain is only trying to get back at Obama for not having the townhall meetings he proposed in the beginning. This is so childish but for an old man it is not unusual. Old men are always trying to get a pay back. After this election we should put a limit on how old a person has to be to run for president first or second term!

There's a huge difference between not agreeing to a town hall debate and in the 11th hour chickening out of a debate you agreed to simply because you know you're going to get slammed.

I think that Palin should debate Obama on Friday. She has more executive experience, is ready to be President, can see Russia from from Alaska, is great with the press, answers questions with ease, has foreign policy experience – I mean Canada is right next door and to top it off the Pakistani PM thinks she's hot.

Come on America – Palin is ready to jump in for Sen. McCain RIGHT NOW!!! PALIN ' 08!!!!!

    lol****

Some of the 'slams' here to Democrats would be offensive, if they weren't such a reflection of the same old, same old smears the McCain campaign has run..... since Day 1. Now they have reached a point of just being ludicrus.
That's ok, it's about rising above the fray and taking well thought out action, rather than be mired in petty battles and posturing. I so look forward to the debates, whenever they are....
Oh by the way,,, Palin finally took a 3rd interview... 4 questions in NYC at Ground Zero... her positon on Iraq,,, absolute Bush policy. Transcript is here on the CNN site, if you want the very limited rest of the Q and A....
She was also interviewed by an anchor,,, Katie Couric I think. Her international policy about Russia being her 'neighbor'... Paraphrased, pretty accurately,,, 'Putin raises his head and flies into U.S. airspace,,, over Alaska,,, oh and not to forget,,,, Alaska has 'trade' with Russia.... hmm...... I'm REALLY looking forward to that debate.....
Substance over form wins every time.... :):):)
So, come on with the slams, and efforts at smears..... Give it your best shot... Oh, you already did that.... Hmmm... so, how did it work?
Substance over form... my friends, substance over form.....

I agree with previous comments that Michelle will be a stunning First Lady!

Lily 2 says: "Wow, lighting into McCain for wanting to see us through a crisis istead of debate Obamie."

    C'mon, Miss.

You act as if McCain can't do more than one thing at a time! And if he can't, then he shouldn't be President!!

This is a ploy; call a 'Time-out' in the middle of the campaign.

    A ploy.....and a pathetic one, at that!

Michell Obama is a joke. CNN likes to put her on the top. Today for the first time in her life, she must be feeling proud of our country. Get a life.

MCCAIN WAS DOWN IN THE POLLS, PALIN MADE A COMPLETE FOOL OF HERSELF IN THE INTERVIEW WITH COURIC AND YOU TELL ME MCCAIN SHOULD NOT GO TO DEBATE?

MCCAIN IS JUST ATTRACTING ATTENTION TO HIMSELF AND THE GOP WHICH SHOULD REMIND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT WE DON'T WANT FOUR MORE YEARS.

I cant believe that so many Americans can put Mccain down for looking out for ALL OF US. His history/past and present speaks loud and clear. How blind can you get. This man is a hero and has given of himself throughout his lifetime. His commitment is with NO doubt with the people of America. Nobody in their political mind would set aside his campain for a stunt. He has always put US first..........His wife too has given so much. Michelle, what has she EVER done?
"For the first time in my adult life I am proud of America" and "If I can be of any help CALL ME" Truly, who would lead this country a man that up and goes or the call me man??? Think

    ____________________________________________________

Yeah.... because Cindy Mccain doesn't look unappealing too! She looks SO phony... an old battle axe if I've ever seen one!!!!

And for all of you Repub's claiming Michelle doesn't understand the needs of military families... as if Cindy McCain does!!

CINDY WAS THERE TO SLEEP WITH JOHN WHILE HE WAS BUSY DIVORCING HIS FIRST WIFE AFTER HER CRIPPLING ACCIDENT!!

So don't get all SELF-RIGHTOUS on Michelle when Cindy has no room to claim be a model First-Lady...
