Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour discusses Friday's debate.

(CNN) - Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told reporters Thursday preparations for Friday's debate are going forward as planned.

“I expect there to be a debate tomorrow night and I look forward to it," he said.

John McCain has suggested pushing back the debate if an agreement on the economic bailout has not been reached by Friday morning. Barack Obama has said the debate should occur regardless of whether the bill is passed by that time.

That state has spent $5 million dollars preparing for this debate. The least the candidates can do is show up. Bob Barr said he would debate Obama if McCain chickens out. I mean, doesn't show...

I agree; the debates must go forward. McCain is just using this as a ploy to prevent or delay the VP debate. I will do a one man riot act if for any reason the VP debate does not hold next Thursday!!

Debate should continue. mccain and his camp do not care about the hosts of the debate, nor the time and the money put into preparation for this event.

When is someone going to tell mccain he is not the POTUS.

McCain will not need to make the desicion for the economic bailout plan, so why willhe try to cancel the debate. Get it, it's a trick.

Good and they should. Those people put alot of time and money into this and mccain wants it stopped so that he can cancel palins debate becuase for the one or two people out there that think she has a brain they will know for sure she doesn't after the debate. Hey, he took a gamble and lost in picking palin and now it backfired so he's scrambling.

An empty podium would give us more answers than McCain.

    Let him "Bail out."

The real leadership will be there in Mississippi.

That's right keep the debates. This is what the PEOPLE want. We want the man who's going to be in charge to face the people, and not hide in closed door sessions where no one really knows what he's up to. I thought McCain wanted transparency? I thought Barack was the one using the economical crisis for political gain? John McCain is the epitome of hypocrisy, and he's unfit to lead.

I would have to say to all instead of bailing out Wall Street try bailing out the American people. From my calculations 700 Billion Dollars could relieve 140,000,000 American families of their debts by $5,000.00 per household. Try that figure instead.

Please go ahead with the debates unless Mr. McCain is not well! Some people have noticed a problem with the eye area. Apart from that – the show must go on or the next thing will be a request for Election Day postponement.

All debates should take place as scheduled. Early voting has started in several states and the American people need to see McCain and Palin 'try' to answer tough questions before they vote!

Why can't the $700bn be directed to homeowner relief? That would inject it into the financial system, keep the banks liquid, and keep people in their homes. The current bailout plan just helps Wall St. while exposing homeowners to risk.
