Mississippi Gov. says debate plans going forward

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour discusses Friday's debate.
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour discusses Friday's debate.

(CNN) - Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told reporters Thursday preparations for Friday's debate are going forward as planned.

“I expect there to be a debate tomorrow night and I look forward to it," he said.

John McCain has suggested pushing back the debate if an agreement on the economic bailout has not been reached by Friday morning. Barack Obama has said the debate should occur regardless of whether the bill is passed by that time.

I think Obama is right on this. America does need to hear the responses of both of these candidates. NOW. Obama is also right that the president of this country needs to be able to multi task. I personally don't want to wait until who knows when to make my decision about who I'll vote for on NOVEMBER 4th! Let the debates go on as planned. Working Americans also have the ability to multi task .

Excellent. Obama should show up even if McLiar chooses not to. And Biden should show up on Oct. 2nd for the VP debates even if Palin doesn't show up. The McPOW camp is made of utter and complete fail. How pathetic.

    08AMA/BIDEN! :)

I think it is great that Mississippi is standing up for itself. Country First means listening to the people and what they want. McCain is not an economist and can't add anything substantive to the debate about the details of the bailout plan (which is what they are doing at this point; the basic plan is already agreed upon) and neither can Obama. Obama recognizes this and is prepared to go to Washington to vote, but knows he can discuss the bailout, read the proposals, participate in conference calls, etc. from Mississippi. The other 100 Senators can be in Washington waiting for the economists to recommend changes to the proposal. McCain is using this as an excuse to avoid the debate, whether intentional or not. Respect Mississippi, respect the voters, and get to the debate, Senator McCain.

We are supposed believe that McSame shows that he would be the best person for this job when he says I am going home because I am not winning! He has not voted since April and his vote would not make a difference, he is not that important. His job right now is running for president and needs to do his job that he wanted in the first place. Obama I hope you do not fall for this unpatriotic joke!

I have lost all respect for John McCain. This is not about America, it is about Sarah Palin getting out of a debate. I'm a die hard Clinton supporter and wasn't going to vote for either candidate. But I can't take the chance Palin could be the VP of America so Obama / Biden gets my vote.

All the discussion about the candidates and their VP choice and how it would define the candidate.

McCain really messed upon this one. It has defined him but not as he thought.

McCain is doing the right thing for his country
OBama only will show up because Bush made him!
Obama is still preparing for the debate – McCain already KNOWS all this information – does not need a teleprompter – or school.

Well, the latest report is that they are on the "verge" of signing the agreement for the bailout, and I don't think Senator McCain has arrived in Washington yet. Alas, his grandstanding was all for nothing - just makes him look more confused and unpresidential. No way do I want someone that erratic at the helm of our country. Senator Obama, on the other hand, has always been clear-headed, even tempered, and, well, presidential. Looks like this latest stunt is not going to give McCain the traction his pick of Gov. Palin did. Oh well, let's see what he has in store for us for the "smoke and mirrors" in October.

If McShame chooses not to be at the debate...for some coverup reason or another...then he should be able to trust and believe that his choice in V.P. pick would hold the fort down. I question whether she can stand on her own. What happens if McInsane is lying on his bed sickly ill. How will she handle covering for him? CNN, you guys need to get on top of this issue?

Good! The debate should continue. This was just another cynical political stunt by mccain. He has only two speeds – don't react and over react. Sheesh. I've seen enough of that.

bushs the sky is falling appearance last night made scruitiny of this plan all the more important. I don't trust bush – the last time he rushed decision making we ended up in an endless war. No rush, take the time and do it right.

I can't imagine mccain as president – he can only handle one issue at a time – you think we're in a mess now????

I am not one for putting people down but I must address the few brainwashed sheep with wool blanketing their tunnel vision. Whichever way this election goes you are burnt toast. 1) You will either get stuck with a team you have no intelligent reason to despise but still do, or 2) You will get a inept duo who will cause you more grief that you ever imagined. Good luck!

McCain will probably show up and make a big disclaimer about how "he's not prepared because he's been working on the financial crisis,"

Anyway you slice it, Obama is going to come out of this one looking like the only sane choice for the presidency.

The debate should go on. McCain completely overestimates his value here. He thinks that he is some super heeo that is flying to Washington to save the Universe. What a joke.

If anybody can't see through this for the farce it is, they shouldn't be allowed to vote. McCain STILL isn't in Washington, he spoke at Clinton's Global Initiative in New York this morning. This whole charade is about trying to cancel the VP debate.

McCain said himself he doesn't know much about the economy...now all of sudden he wants to wisk away to DC to help out with the economy. Yeah...right.
And I could care less what Bush has to say, I want to hear from the candidates....
