Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour discusses Friday's debate.

(CNN) - Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told reporters Thursday preparations for Friday's debate are going forward as planned.

“I expect there to be a debate tomorrow night and I look forward to it," he said.

John McCain has suggested pushing back the debate if an agreement on the economic bailout has not been reached by Friday morning. Barack Obama has said the debate should occur regardless of whether the bill is passed by that time.

John McCain has skipped more votes during this session than any member of the Senate except for Tim Johnson, who had major brain surgery. He has cast a single vote in five months, since April 9. All of a sudden, McCain is demanding that the presidential race shut down so he can return to Washington?

What's the problem? If McCentury doesn't show up, Obama can just debate his empty chair.

If McC does show up, same thing.

For all his vaunted experience, McCentury has all the sang-froid of a nervous schoolgirl. It's no wonder it took him so long to make it this far.

Everybody BUT McLame thinks that continuing with the debate is necessary. John, you can't hide the mountain of idiocy that you've built...

I agree, a president should be able to multi-task. The debate should still go on. Bring it on John McCain. Stop ducking and dodging the American people. We want to hear what you have to say now! The straight talk express has turned into the NO talk express.

If McSame cuts and runs and is a "no-show", they should just put a picture of his face of a Pinocchio doll and stick it in a chair. The effect will be the same...

This is a good example of Obama putting HIMSELF before the country that he is hoping to run someday. Obama is one big walking ego!

McCain, you take all the time you need to help with our economic crush. The debate can wait, but these serious issues can not.

Obama is already acting like a punk, a gangbanger, a mugger. Obama is for rabble.

What are the odds of Bristol Palin having a "miscarriage" two days before the scheduled VP debate, thereby giving Sarah an excuse not to show up because she needs be in Alaska to "comfort" her daughter instead?

Good New "Let the debate began"
McCain is not multi-tasked. When you get that old, you're doing good to do 1 thing at a time.

Country first "that is a lie" If it were true, McCain would have never picked Palin. A very stuip move.

The world is also anxious to see this debate.

And the world can see through McCain's political theater.

    Let's see.....

The fundamentals of the economy are strong!

Then less than two weeks later......

I am suspending my campaign because the economy is in crisis!!

Maybe McCain is trying to give Obama more time to bone-up on Foreign Policy. Shaking leaders hands does not foreign policy make. Same goes for Palin.

McCain can find the time to cook ribs for Rachel Ray during the economic crisis but he can't find time for a Presidential debate!!!

The State of Mississippi should sue Senator McCain for not showing up. He can afford it. Mississippi is one of the poorest states in the union. They can't afford to shell out 5M for nothing. Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of dollars the merchants and hotels will loose if the debate is cancelled.

So let me get this straight, the State of Mississippi isn't part of the economic crisis?. It would serve him right if the people there decided not to vote for him at all...

The same "dear in the headlights" kind of idocy that got Bush elected is demonstrated by David letteremans displeasure with John McCain canceling his apperance on the Tonight Show. I would like to enlighten Dave that entertainment comes pretty low on the food chain when it comes to circumstances like this. No body had to ask McCain to go back to Washington or remind him of what he was elected to do in the first place. I can understand why somebody had to enlighten this sophmore senator where the decisions are made in this country. Is this the kind of intuitivenesswe want running this country? We can't survive a nother arrogant zealot as president... green, orange, blue or otherwise!

"I hope Sarah shows up and pummels Obama so people will see what an idiot (columbia university gpa of 2.0)Obama is."

First of all, don't make stuff up as a gpa of 2.0 will not get a person to Harvard Law.

Secondly, Sarah Palin can show up but can she speak?
