Can you imagine if the President of a large corporation decided to suspend all operations of the corporation in order to focus all his efforts with the financial department to make sure that a resolution to a major financial crisis is obtained?

And oh, by the way, the President has no economics expertise!

The real world requires smart leaders of large corporations to manage operations effectively AT THE SAME TIME THEY ARE DEALING WITH CRISES!

The world doesn't understand why there can't be a debate, but the world is not biased.....and can see through McCain's political theater!

Senator McCain, Yes, the economic situation is important to America, but so is the freaking presidential election. It is the Senate Banking Committee's job to work on the bail-out. You're not on that committee. If you weren't on the campaign trail, you would play no part in negotiating the bail-out bill. That's what those committees do. After 26 years in the Senate, one would think that you'd have that all figured out. Perhaps not. Guess what, though. You are, um, the Republican Party's nominee for president! It's your job to run for president! If you can do only one thing at a time, and that's clearly your limit, why not make that one thing running for president? I would guess every single person who has supported you and donated to your campaign would like it that way. * * * * * Republicans, you should be up in arms about this fool's decision to suspend his campaign and dodge the debate. Even Haley Barbour, former head of the Republican National Committee, wants the debate to go on! John McCain and his running mate have been ducking the press and avoiding discussing the issues far too long. They can't avoid the issues forever, and now this strategy is blowing up in their faces! Republicans, the only responsible decision is to vote for Barack Obama. Only he has the temperament and integrity to hold this country's highest office. Haven't you had enough of being gamed by your party's leaders?

McCain hasn't cast a vote in the Senate since April, Obama since July. They may be the leaders of their party, but they are not the leaders in the Senate. Their showing up only causes one more distraction.

McCain not wanting to debate is just one more example of that boxing adage; "If you can't beat 'em with punches, dazzle them with your footwork." Nice ploy to try and get Sarah off her debate by switching the date to the VP date.

Senator McCain's dramatic action is not an act of leadership but a transparent political attempt at one-upmanship. If the reports are right, Senator Obama suggested a non-partisan action that seems to have been greeted by the McCain's maverick action. If McCain was really on top of the situation, his action should have taken place much earlier...he should have been there to be part of the solution rather than to steal the credit.

Yes, absolutely the debate should happen. We really need to hear these candidates talk about foreign policy as it is so intertwined with our current economic situation and and will be with our struggles in the future on many of the same issues.

THe issues aren't going away simply because we've elected a new President and Congress, but they could be handled very differently depending on the new President and Congress's policies.

Now more than ever before, we need to listen to what our candidates are saying to us and to each other. We need some REAL debate. We need it NOW.

You know, Obama bashers, neither of these candidates can do anything in Washington today. They are not on the committees that are hashing this out. Bush called Obama in to save McCain's butt, but there is NOTHING they can do except spout off and then vote when there is finally a bill, which won't be until next week. McCain has not been in Washington to vote since APRIL; Obama's last vote was in July. Funny, too, how Bush and McCain are echoing OBAMA'S plan for changes in the bill. Obama calls McCain yesterday morning and they talk about a plan..McCain defers from a joint statement. Then he goes on TV 30 minutes later with all these ideas and talks about no debate, catching everyone off guard. Believe he's all about the people if you like, but he's first and foremost a politician, and right now he sees his big dream going down the drain with our money. That's the ony reason for his grandstanding yesterday-he knew Barack would put forth the plan, so he beat him to the punch. That's not leadership, that's Rovian politics at their best. And about the bridge-I don't recall the Obama campaign saying anything about the bridge-it was the media and the bloggers who caught her lie. I suspect the vote was tied in with many other projects-so to say they "voted for the bridge" is a bit disingenuous, but then, everything McCain says is twisted.

Guys, maybe McCain in his heart of hearts does truly believe that by pushing the debate back until an agreement is reached is good for the country. He gambled on the American people agreeing with him, but as Obama stated, the POTUS should be able to deal with more than one thing at a time.

I believe McCain honestly thought he was making the right decision and it had nothing to do with giving Palin more time or he not being prepared to debate"

He should know better and should prove he is capable of handling a nation whilst working with other world leaders, finishing this war that has been going on for far too long, working on issues concerning the environment, and so on... down to spending time with his family.

I think (and I hope that others in my state will agree) that McCain's overly dramatic decision to "suspend his campaign" to play the hero in Washington is an insult to everyone who has worked to prepare for the debate. He is treating us as expendable, and that is wrong. Nonetheless, we will be extremely happy to host the next president of the United States Friday night.

If John McCain can fix the economy by going back to Washington, he should be thrown in jail for a federal stick-up. He has not been in on the original meetings and I'm sure the one in charge are getting thing done. I f John goes to Washinhton, all taxpayer should go because it is OUR MONEY. If McCain was that concerned about the economy, he would have accomplished something over the past 26 years. It is amazing how someone has NOT done anything about the economy in 26 yaer can make a trip back to Washington and fix it. These debates are not for Obama or McCain. It is for us, AMERICA. It is our patriotic duty to examine these 2 candidates as much as possible in order to do our job of voting.

So it shouldn't matter what EITHER of them want to do. It is up to the American people to decide whether they go on or not. And from what I see and hear, the American people want the debate.

So I wish both of them would be true patriots and give us what we need in order to make our decisions.

I'm still an undecided voter, and I NEED this debate, and all the others, in order to fully make up my mind. The American people need to see these candidates together and hear their differences.

McCain or "McLAME" as my children are even calling him made a brilliant move in that he isn't paying as much for advertising now since he "suspended" his campaign. Fact is I saw an ad not less than an hour ago on my local station in TN. He is getting more media coverage for suspending his campaign and going back to Washington to help with the economic crisis or at least saying he is. I for one cannot trust a man who lies to Letterman to get out of a scheduled appearance and makes it appear as though he is doing what is best for our country when most of Congress is fighting for the same things he and Obama are asking for in the economic bill. Yes both need to go and vote but for him to act like he is doing this for our country is obsurd. He is losing ground and this is just another diversion tactic to take eyes off of Obama. Obama is the one who is a true leader! He can multi-task the way a president should. IF McCain were to win the election would he be able to tell some terrorist group "Could you wait to attack us, we need to work on this crisis first?" NO! This is what I believe it all boils down to - Obama can handle more than one problem at once and McCain has to say lets postpone this - that is just not how life works!

Wow, what about the money the University of Mississippi put into holding the debate? That would be a shame for McCain to squander it. The country needs to hear this debate, needs a leader that can tackle more than one issue at once. I hate to say it, but it really does feel like some cheap trick to avoid debating Obama.
