More tricks from McCain Palin camp. Stop the gimmicks and come to Mississippi for the debate. OR are McCain advisors afraid of McCain appearing confused, dis-oriented, and sweating as he debates Obama. Rove is looking at the Kennedy-Nixon debate and KNOWING that his candidate is about to tank he is releasing every dirty trick in the playbook. HEY BUSH! Add 5 million dollars to your bailout package to payback OleMiss for McCain's no show.

Americans need debate more than anything for their future president. McCain plays politics first before country. McCain do you care about country first when you chose unknown, inexperience Sarah Palin to be VP? McCain, do you care about country first and drives 13 cars, 9 houses and keep on saying that the fundemental of our economy is strong--- says Granpa McCain.
I HAVE ALREADY CAST MY VOTE FOR OBAMA.

Someone asked to see one accomplishment Obama has made in 12 years. Note that Palin has been talking about bringing transparency to DC and putting the checkbook online. Good idea.

However, I'd like you to do a web search for "Google for Government". There's one.

Obama is right...again!

The President of the United States needs to be the master of focus, principle and multi-tasking.

Appears as the days go by..McCain is losing on all three fronts.

The debates should go on

McCain is a brave hero. He's confronting the crisis directly, even at the possible expense of his presidential aspirations. Until pulled in by an invitation he couldn't refuse, Obama was ducking the heavy lifting. Some leadership???

I'm actually more frightened of McCain trying to influence the bailout proposals in Washington than I am of having him down in Mississippi where he can just stay out of the way.

Sort of like when Bush goes down to Crawford to clear brush on the ranch: at least he can't screw up as much when he's away.

More of the same from John McShame

John McLame says, “I don’t know much about the economy, I still need to be educated”

“It would be acceptable if we had to stay in Iraq for another 100 years.”

We need to “bomb, bomb, and bomb Iran”

“I have voted with Bush 90% of the time because he has been right 90% of the time”

Sarah Failin says,

“I have foreign policy experience because you can see Russia from Alaska and I went to Mexico on vacation once.”

“I welcome any investigation into my past because I have nothing to hide, oh never mind I will not meet with any investigators for any reason ever.”

She believes the Bush Doctrine is a “World View” hahaha

She says she said “No Thanks” for the Bridge to nowhere when she was actually the one who got it approved

She says we may have to go to war WITH RUSSIA

She decreased her own responsibilities when she was the mayor of a town small enough to be run by a fifth grader

YOU CAN”T HIDE FOREVER PALIN/ McShame!!!!!!!!!

There is absolutely "NO" input McCain can interject and be of any benefit to the ongoing bailout negotiations. Remember, McCain admitted to his lack of experience in the area of the economy. SO WHAT DOES HE PLAN TO DO? DEBATE FOOL.....

Can you imagine if the President of a large corporation decided to suspend all operations of the corporation in order to focus all his efforts with the financial department to make sure that a resolution to a major financial crisis is obtained?

And oh, by the way, the President has no economics expertise!

The real world requires smart leaders of large corporations to manage operations effectively AT THE SAME TIME THEY ARE DEALING WITH CRISES!

The world doesn't understand why there can't be a debate, but the world is not biased.....and can see through McCain's political theater!

The only debate Obama can win is one where the opponent is too busy working to show up.

LOL..No wonder Obama is pushing this so hard! What a joke.

btw, isn't Biden a senator...I can't really fathom what is more important right now than to be involved in this economic crisis....but it seems that doing stump speeches is for the Obama camp.

Why don't they just turn on a tape recorder, they haven't changed this speech in 18 months.

bibek, McCain is a brave hero. As a member of Congress, he's doing exactly what he should be doing (dealing directly with the gravest issue we've faced in quite a while), even if it is at the expense of his presidential asperations. Obama, until pulled in by an invitation he couldn't refuse, was seeking to duck the heavy lifting.

First McCain turns his back on the media by refusing to take questions and sheltering Sarah Palin from answering questions.. NOW he decides he is going to suspend the debate. McCain is insane and if you support this candidate all I can say is that birds of a feather sure do flock together.

GOOD!!!

And if McCain doesn't show up, I expect SARAH PALIN to debate JOE BIDEN. Don't waste people's already much spent time and money on this debate.

I'm looking forward to watching the debate tomorrow night.

McCain has gotten himself in quite a pickle.

Senator McCain,

Yes, the economic situation is important to America, but so is the freaking presidential election. It is the Senate Banking Committee's job to work on the bail-out. You're not on that committee. If you weren't on the campaign trail, you would play no part in negotiating the bail-out bill. That's what those committees do. After 26 years in the Senate, one would think that you'd have that all figured out. Perhaps not.

Guess what, though. You are, um, the Republican Party's nominee for president! It's your job to run for president! If you can do only one thing at a time, and that's clearly your limit, why not make that one thing running for president? I would guess every single person who has supported you and donated to your campaign would like it that way.

* * * * *

Republicans, you should be up in arms about this fool's decision to suspend his campaign and dodge the debate. Even Haley Barbour, former head of the Republican National Committee, wants the debate to go on! John McCain and his running mate have been ducking the press and avoiding discussing the issues far too long. They can't avoid the issues forever, and now this strategy is blowing up in their faces!

Republicans, the only responsible decision is to vote for Barack Obama. Only he has the temperament and integrity to hold this country's highest office. Haven't you had enough of being gamed by your party's leaders?

McCain hasn't cast a vote in the Senate since April, Obama since July. They may be the leaders of their party, but they are not the leaders in the Senate. Their showing up only causes one more distraction.

McCain not wanting to debate is just one more example of that boxing adage; "If you can't beat 'em with punches, dazzle them with your footwork." Nice ploy to try and get Sarah off her debate by switching the date to the VP date.

Could these two be anymore of a joke?

Senator McCain's dramatic action is not an act of leadership but a transparent political attempt at one-upmanship. If the reports are right, Senator Obama suggested a non-partisan action that seems to have been greeted by the McCain's maverick action. If McCain was really on top of the situation, his action should have taken place much earlier...he should have been there to be part of the solution rather than to steal the credit.

Oh please Molly get a life. Obama in debate school. What can McCain do or a matter of fact either one of them at this point. Their not on the Finance and Banking committees anyway. McCain is just stalling and he's not going to make a good President. He can go back to DC and show his face and then go on down to Ole Miss and do his thing. He doesn't want to show himself as the fraud that some of us know. I wonder about the people who actually voted him the nominee they didn't have a clue. So deal with it.

Yes, absolutely the debate should happen. We really need to hear these candidates talk about foreign policy as it is so intertwined with our current economic situation and and will be with our struggles in the future on many of the same issues.

THe issues aren't going away simply because we've elected a new President and Congress, but they could be handled very differently depending on the new President and Congress's policies.

Now more than ever before, we need to listen to what our candidates are saying to us and to each other. We need some REAL debate. We need it NOW.

You know, Obama bashers, neither of these candidates can do anything in Washington today. They are not on the committees that are hashing this out. Bush called Obama in to save McCain's butt, but there is NOTHING they can do except spout off and then vote when there is finally a bill, which won't be until next week. McCain has not been in Washington to vote since APRIL; Obama's last vote was in July. Funny, too, how Bush and McCain are echoing OBAMA'S plan for changes in the bill. Obama calls McCain yesterday morning and they talk about a plan..McCain defers from a joint statement. Then he goes on TV 30 minutes later with all these ideas and talks about no debate, catching everyone off guard. Believe he's all about the people if you like, but he's first and foremost a politician, and right now he sees his big dream going down the drain with our money. That's the ony reason for his grandstanding yesterday-he knew Barack would put forth the plan, so he beat him to the punch. That's not leadership, that's Rovian politics at their best.
And about the bridge-I don't recall the Obama campaign saying anything about the bridge-it was the media and the bloggers who caught her lie. I suspect the vote was tied in with many other projects-so to say they "voted for the bridge" is a bit disingenuous, but then, everything McCain says is twisted.

I agree with Elaine,
Elaine September 25th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Guys, maybe McCain in his heart of hearts does truly believe that by pushing the debate back until an agreement is reached is good for the country. He gambled on the American people agreeing with him, but as Obama stated, the POTUS should be able to deal with more than one thing at a time.

I believe McCain honestly thought he was making the right decision and it had nothing to do with giving Palin more time or he not being prepared to debate"

He should know better and should prove he is capable of handling a nation whilst working with other world leaders, finishing this war that has been going on for far too long, working on issues concerning the environment, and so on... down to spending time with his family.

I think (and I hope that others in my state will agree) that McCain's overly dramatic decision to "suspend his campaign" to play the hero in Washington is an insult to everyone who has worked to prepare for the debate. He is treating us as expendable, and that is wrong. Nonetheless, we will be extremely happy to host the next president of the United States Friday night.

Welcome, Obama! Mississippi will turn blue!

If John McCain can fix the economy by going back to Washington, he should be thrown in jail for a federal stick-up. He has not been in on the original meetings and I'm sure the one in charge are getting thing done. I f John goes to Washinhton, all taxpayer should go because it is OUR MONEY. If McCain was that concerned about the economy, he would have accomplished something over the past 26 years. It is amazing how someone has NOT done anything about the economy in 26 yaer can make a trip back to Washington and fix it. This only meand that McCain and thos other carless idiots are responsible for this mess.

These debates are not for Obama or McCain. It is for us, AMERICA. It is our patriotic duty to examine these 2 candidates as much as possible in order to do our job of voting.

So it shouldn't matter what EITHER of them want to do. It is up to the American people to decide whether they go on or not. And from what I see and hear, the American people want the debate.

So I wish both of them would be true patriots and give us what we need in order to make our decisions.

I'm still an undecided voter, and I NEED this debate, and all the others, in order to fully make up my mind. The American people need to see these candidates together and hear their differences.

McCain or "McLAME" as my children are even calling him made a brilliant move in that he isn't paying as much for advertising now since he "suspended" his campaign. Fact is I saw an ad not less than an hour ago on my local station in TN. He is getting more media coverage for suspending his campaign and going back to Washington to help with the economic crisis or at least saying he is. I for one cannot trust a man who lies to Letterman to get out of a scheduled appearance and makes it appear as though he is doing what is best for our country when most of Congress is fighting for the same things he and Obama are asking for in the economic bill. Yes both need to go and vote but for him to act like he is doing this for our country is obsurd. He is losing ground and this is just another diversion tactic to take eyes off of Obama. Obama is the one who is a true leader! He can multi-task the way a president should. IF McCain were to win the election would he be able to tell some terrorist group "Could you wait to attack us, we need to work on this crisis first?" NO! This is what I believe it all boils down to - Obama can handle more than one problem at once and McCain has to say lets postpone this - that is just not how life works!

What's new. It's all wag the dog with McCain. First he wants to cancel the Republican convention due to a hurricane. Now he wants to cancel the debate due to the stock market. Next he'll want to cancel the election due to traffic congestion on our nation's highways.

Something tells me McCain will show up, it is just a ploy to disturb Obama by keep him guessing wether McCain will come or not.

McCain knows if he makes a no-show, he might lose this state as a retaliation.

Who made John McCain in charge of the debates in the first place? If he doesn't want to debate, then he needs to withdraw. Who do these people think they are? They've intimidated everyone they've come into contact with to get their way, especially the media, and frankly, I'm sick of it!

First it was town hall meeting and if he doesn't get his way he spreads lies about obama and cries when factchecks all prove him wrong, him AND palin, next if he doesn't get his way on this bailout he refuses to debate, unBELIEVABLE....what a sham...he thinks American's are that dumb that they will buy into this....what an insult.

Wow, what about the money the University of Mississippi put into holding the debate? That would be a shame for McCain to squander it. The country needs to hear this debate, needs a leader that can tackle more than one issue at once. I hate to say it, but it really does feel like some cheap trick to avoid debating Obama.
