McCain will attend Friday's debate.

WASHINGTON (CNN ) - Republican presidential nominee John McCain has decided to travel to Mississippi to participate in Friday night's presidential debate with his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, McCain campaign staff said.

McCain said earlier this week he would not attend the debate if an agreement had not been reached on a $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street.

Election Center: What to expect from upcoming debates

The campaign said the Republican presidential nominee believed that enough progress had been made for him to travel to Mississippi to participate in the debate, set for 9 p.m. ET at the University of Mississippi campus.

    Of course
We all knew that in the end that this was what going to happen once McCain's grand standing was over.

  4. He's a gambler who lost

McCain changes his mind, because his gamble didn't pay off. No one will give him credit for staying in Washington to save the bail-out deal . . . because he did go to Washington and the deal failed anyway. Now he faces the reality that if he skips the debate he'll look chicken. So he's making the best of a bad sitution by switching positions and attending the debate after having behaved like a doofus.

Good!!! He tried to pressure Obama into suspending his campain, and postponing the debates....but, the joke is on him!!!Now, he is the one that caved under the pressure. I'm so glad that Obama didn't give in to this lunatic.

Does this mean the bailout deal is done? If not, just shows McCain as the flip-flopper he is.

Sweet! I was afraid he was just trying to figure out a way to get out of having to have Sarah Palin debate Biden. Graby the popcorn, baby!

  9. Big news!!!

Yeah big news. How damaging to his campaign if he had not. The bailout still isn't finished what changed his mind, the fact that it was a political play and the American people recognized it or at least the smart Americans.

FLIP FLOP FLIP FLOP – What else John? You suspend your campaign and fly off to DC to muddle the solution.

Are you un-suspending the campaign because the polls show that your gamble didn't work?

Let's hear tonight exactly what John McCain did with his rush to DC?

John McCain has been the problem with his deregulation not any part of a solution to the GOP caused economic mess.

He has no choice but to attend. I just want to know what exactly did he do in DC that was so important that he had to "suspend" campaigning and potentially delay the debate.

Well, isn't that nice of him. Unfortunately, this already looks like a political stunt and has made this American hero look like a coward.

Whatever respect I had left for McCain has been completely thrown out the window due to this weeks events.

I'll bet anything that he will show up-his little showoff activity yesterday has finally caught up with him. What a stunt...this man will do anything to win this election. Does he not realize that Americans are not totally dumb. His actions call into suspect just what kind of a man he really is. There is no level, in my opinion, that he would not stoop too in order to win. I think he is truly pitiful.......

  20. Debate should go on

He never intended on not attending. This was yet another political stunt to try and halt the Obama momentum. That has been McCain's tactics this who time. When ever Obama gains momentum, McCain makes some big announcement.

Holding off his decision to attend the debate was just another polictical stunt on the McCain camp. The VP debate must also go on as planned.
