McCain will attend Friday's debate.

WASHINGTON (CNN ) - Republican presidential nominee John McCain has decided to travel to Mississippi to participate in Friday night's presidential debate with his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, McCain campaign staff said.

McCain said earlier this week he would not attend the debate if an agreement had not been reached on a $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street.

Election Center: What to expect from upcoming debates

The campaign said the Republican presidential nominee believed that enough progress had been made for him to travel to Mississippi to participate in the debate, set for 9 p.m. ET at the University of Mississippi campus.

Mccain grasping at the last straws and running like a headless chicken. The republicans must have sent him back because he was a distraction from real work.

How comical of Obama pressuring McCain. When Obama always tried to get out of debates with Clinton. I knew McCain would show up to the debate. He's a fighter – he has always been a fighter. That is what our country needs. Not a glorified media hogger like Obama

Oh. My. God. Did anyone read the statement that he sent out saying that he will appear? Will the douchebaggery never end with this guy?

"Both parties in both houses of Congress and the administration needed to come together to find a solution that would deserve the trust of the American people. And while there were attempts to do that, much of yesterday was spent fighting over who would get the credit for a deal and who would get the blame for failure. There was no deal or offer yesterday that had a majority of support in Congress. There was no deal yesterday that included adequate protections for the taxpayers. It is not enough to cut deals behind closed doors and then try to force it on the rest of Congress — especially when it amounts to thousands of dollars for every American family.

The difference between Barack Obama and John McCain was apparent during the White House meeting yesterday, where Barack Obama’s priority was political posturing in his opening monologue defending the package as it stands. John McCain listened to all sides so he could help focus the debate on finding a bipartisan resolution that is in the interest of taxpayers and homeowners. The Democratic interests stood together in opposition to an agreement that would accommodate additional taxpayer protections."

So when does McCain release a statement saying how important this debate is and how, as president, it's important to be able to do more than one thing at a time?

You know...when does McCain do what he always does...which is copy Obama's stand on things and try to steal his lines?

Good to see your stunt didn't work out so well McCain.

Now let's just hope Obama can stick it to him.

Present or absent, an empty suit is still an empty suit. That goes, whether the suit is at the cleaners or on the way to the cleaners.

Ha! Too funny. On Wednesday he suspended his campaign to "focus on the economy" in some nebulous, unclear way. He spent yesterday posturing and saying that he wouldn't attend the debate if a bail-out deal wasn't in place. And now, lo and behold, he flip-flops again and decides to show up after all.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly glad that the debate will be going ahead - the time could not be any more ripe for Americans to see these two lock horns, with the future of the United States (and, in some respects, the world) on the line in less than six weeks.

What it does demonstrate conclusively is that McCain realized that his ploy wasn't working, and that Americans weren't buying it. If he were truly guided by "Country First" and the strength of his convictions, he would have stayed his course. What a hypocrite.

I just hope that the American people will see this latest stunt for what it is. McCain doesn't understand the economy so what did he have to offer?

With his poll numbers going down once again he tries to create a distraction and get people paying attention to the smoke screen while He hasn't contributed anything but chaos.

Is this how he would run this country?

He whines and does more things in his self interest than Obama! Especially in the last few years. He's also been in the Senate less than Obama... which is funny since Obama has been campaigning longer!
