Well, McCrazy gambled on the Americans falling for his stupidity. He thought we would all rally behind him and proclaim how he is country first and Obama is not.

Problem with McCrazy is that he is in a time warp. This is not 2004. The press is not in his pocket like it was for Bush. And Obama is no John Kerry. He is way too smart for the whole GOP. He basically told McCrazy that if he cannot multi task, he has no business being POTUS.

Now, let us see what his next stunt is. May be he will bring with him an ear piece like Bush did to cheat on the debate and claim he is following the proceedings in Congress.

Very interesting to watch this all unfold. I am a first time follower of politics. Like many, I think I am very taken back by the childish behavior of the Republican Party to manipulate things in order to come off looking good. Its amazing to me that grown men and women are behaving this way.

Wow. I sure hope the quality of the CNN posters is not representative of the quality of the CNN readers/watchers. MSNBC here we come. What a pathetic bunch.

Your opinions are so so harsh and blind. I hope you realize you represent about 5% of the population and 0% of the helpful, rational citizens.

Course, think he has already done that with his
irresponsible actions this last week.

Just like him to make a rash decision, then have to rethink it.
He couldn't make a decent decision if his life depended on it!
Unless it was to buy another house or car...

Wow, is there a conclusion to the bailout. This is only proof that this man is NOT ready to be President. He doesn't think first. He makes rash descision and then as to change those descsions -which just makes him look foolish!

Same thing with the bailout- First he was against it, (rash descision) then for it, then against it,.,.. now no one knows where he stand.

Same thing with the war... for it (rash descision)

Same thing with picking Palin- EXTREMELY RASH DESCSION--- DID HE WATCH THE INTERVIEW WITH KATIE... RASH DESCSION.. RASH DESCISION... RASH DESCISION...

Let's face it... neither he nor Palin are ready to go anywhere near the White House.

I think most of the posts are pretty nasty towards McCain. To be frank, I don't see there is any big difference between McCain and Obama. Both of them play dirty politics (just watch the ads from both sides). I am really disappointed in the politicians. Don't we deserve better or we have to choose the less evil one!!!

He's very desperate. He clearly said he would only participate in the debate if there was a deal in the bail out plan. As many people have been arguing, it was just a political stunt aimed at changing the current debate. McShame put politics before the nation. He's losing this election whether he likes it or not.

Jack,

You obviously have access to the internet. Rather than spout drivel, why not do some research? You should start with the "Community Reinvestment Act', then move on to the "Federal Housing Enterprise Reform Act" of 2005. When you are done there, go see what the reduction in the corporate tax rates has done for Ireland and it's citizens. After that, come back and tell us all what you found out. Show a little independence and base your vote on some facts rather than blindly rooting for your favorite team. This is our country, not a penant race.

So who's trying to act like the messiah now? Give us a break. McCain has tried to make this crisis of the people "all about me, me, me, look at me!!!" Obama's been in Washington all this time, too, but he hasn't been trying to hog the spotlight or keep the country hostage with these dramatic shenanigans. Thank God someone is consistent and dependable--if Obama says he'll show up, he'll show up.

I am glad he is going, but he will have the opportunity to state he was not keen on leaving Washington, but felt he had no other choice. What ever he will find someway to turn this to his advantage. I hope the American's eyes are not as blind as McCain thinks they are.

We are happy to note that John McCain will take part in the debate. The whole world is watching daily with interest. I am happy he will not disappoint the Americans and the rest of the progressive world. Bitterness should be removed from the campaigns. What the world wants is purposeful leadership which will strenghten American and the world economy. Bipartisanship being promoted by the two candidates gives a ray of hope for peace and prosperity in the US and the world. God will protect both candidates.

His grandstanding didn't work, he messed up the deal yesterday so he has no choice but to try to redeem himself by showing up. I'm sure he'll say he's "not as focused" due to the problems in Washington but he'd find some excuse one way or another. Both he and Palin usually do. After all, they wouldn't want us to have "high" expectations, would they?!

Thank goodness. I thought I would be subjected to "um..um..um.." for 90 minutes since Obama knows nothing about national security. A town hall without a teleprompter would have been just boring.

McCain should have never cancelled in the first place. He has no idea about what's going on with the economy, and he knows that. That's why he punked out and ran to Washington. Economic problems have been going on all year, so why go to Washington now to "rescue us and save the day"? Bunch of crap. It seems like the economy going bad is news to McCain.

My question is, if we can potentially cancel political events and suspend campaigns, why didn't we do this during the Republican Convention when the hurricane was going on? We still had a convention, yet people were suffering in a different way, potentially losing everything they own, but he didn't try and suspend the campaign then. He's full of it...

It's quite simple. When McCain's Camp found out that Obama would have a Town Hall Meeting to himself with most of the nation watching, he decided he would attend. Go figure. Obama '08!

Great.

I'm SO GLAD that we have a completed bailout bill. After all, Senator McCain said he wouldn't be at the debate until we had a bill signed off with all the details completed.

The tough POW, war hero who understands how to "get things done" is weak, prone to miscalculation, reckless and niave. He has ZERO credibility as a thoughtful leader.

I only hope that America does not let any watered down expectations of his performance tonight lower the bar for him.

Let's look for objective evidence of competence tonight from both candidates. We're not electing a President on a curve.

Seems like David Letterman scared the hell out of McCain.

So much for country first! This was a ploy by McCain, who is playing high stakes poker with the future of America, first by selecting that dimwit Palin to be his VP, then my handling the economic crisis like someone with Tourret's. I would love to meet the 40% of Americans who would actually trust this highly unstable man to run this country.

It angered me to hear my friends say that Mccain was being a leader, when he never suspended his campaign or joined in the discussion at the white house. The truth is that Mccain is not a leader and needs to called out for what he is, a fraud, Obama and the Minority Republican leader were going at it, while Mccain never said a word.

Michael is right, this is no doubt, on one level, political grandstanding. On another level it is additional evidence of an impulsive, reckless temperament that is ill-suited to the responsibilities of the presidency.

I am just amazed at some of our opinions. As I drive through surrounding neighborhoods in my area, I see people who are obviously living in despair with McCain and Palin signs in their yard.

This is election should not be about who we admire, respect, or want to have a beer with, this election needs to be about who can handle the the transitions with our world, inspire the nation, remain calm and level headed in a crisis, and educated to express a sound judgement.

I am not saying who we should vote for, just ask yourselves the above questions and make your decision.

Tell me again what the purpose of his bolt to Washington was about? I'm confused. If congress is still in session and hasn't reached a conclusion, why didn't he stick to his original statement of the debate and my campaign will not go on until this is resolved. It's not resolved, yet he's appearing at the debates.

He's seems to be flapping in the wind. He looks tired, overwhelmed and this stress may very well be a cause for illness (although I don't wish it upon anybody!!!) Nonetheless, it makes me more concerned about "I'll get back to ya..." Palin in the oval office. Ok, she doesn't know the record of other politicians, but her own running mate?????

Whopie do!

Is this news to anyone? McCain played russian roulette with an AK, in the process made himself look really ineffective.

People are saying he might get killed in the debate tonight... and this one is about foreign policy; His (alleged) speciality.

When will we learn that these issues are not segregated in the real world the way we like to label them in politics? Our economy is only as strong as our foreign policy is wise. One cannot succeed without the other.

Say what you want to say. McCain is Bush 44. Its not just a talking point, its sad reality.

He can smell what America thinks! Don't monkey around with the future of the country...

Most common people in America hold two or three jobs just to make ends meet. Let's suppose John McCain was elected president, and there is a terrorists attack, ecponomic meltdown compounded by Russia's invasion of urkrain, What will he do? Suspend All engaments and deal with the ones that pose the most danger? US president should be able to handle ALL the issues at once.
