(CNN) — Too early to see how the night will end up, but both these candidates seem very flat — maybe it's been a tiring few days?

pek   September 26th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Jacqui Harper   September 26th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer! We should be willing to drink coffee with anyone.

Annette   September 26th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

You know when CNN had the talks with the 5 Secs of State the other day they all said the same thing…. that we needed to have talks with Iran…just as Obama has said….

pek   September 26th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

any good leader is willinjg to talk to his enemies (real or percieved) the silent treatment advocatred by bush and mccain is definitely not going to work. it also helps when you can pronounce world leaders names. is this a senior moment or is he just thick?

pek   September 26th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

he spurts out lies like they're facts. he cannot (i bet)back any of his stories with hard facts. what a terrible barefaced barrel of lies and half truths. this is beyond spin doctoring

Annette   September 26th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Just starting to talk Iran

pek   September 26th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

even if obama says nothing he would seem to be doing better than mccain. ok they're starting on iran now. IF IF IF iran acquires nuclear weapons. come on. mccain sees enemies everywhere.

scecy   September 26th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Why won't Mccain look at Obama?

Todd   September 26th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

McCain needs to stop telling these stories like my grandfather, lets stick to the issues.

Jacqui Harper   September 26th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

How will we know when the 'war' is won? How do we define 'success'?

Annette   September 26th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

That's because they don't really know his record of voting on vetern's issues… now it is 6 to 1 of active duty military supporting Obama/Biden….

Todd   September 26th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

Can we get some straight forward answers….Please!!!!!!

Anonymous   September 26th, 2008 9:59 pm ET

obama is for the working american, mccain is for wall street

enough is enough... proud 55 yr. old female hispanic Obama supporter from Dallas, TX   September 26th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Please, McCain it is not 1983! What does that have to do with TODAY?!!!

Mashawnda Dowell   September 26th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

McCain is good tonight, yet Obama communicates better.

Sgt B   September 26th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

I am currently deployed, and the only access I have is what I am reading on CNN. Can anyone update me on how the debate is going now? Have they started to talk about foreign policy yet? Have they mentioned Iran yet..please update..thank you!

enough is enough... proud 55 yr. old female hispanic Obama supporter from Dallas, TX   September 26th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

According to your CNN's best political team analyst scoreboard Obama I ahead…so all you McCainc supporters must be watching his website from earlier today when he claimed he won the debate (9 hrs. ago) and not the real time debate.

pek   September 26th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

i think obama is doing much better at this time. mccain seems not very well prepared. i totally agree with his silly smile - that should stop. trigger happy mccain we can do without

Revi   September 26th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Nothing about the Pakistanis shooting at Americans as we fire back, while the Pakistani Prime Minister wags his tongue at Palin

Revi   September 26th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

John cannot look Barack in the eyes…..

The Patriot   September 26th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Yeah, not really getting any real answers……………..JUST answer, stop beating around the bush boys!

NOSS   September 26th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

no disappointment here;
only low expectations

Annette   September 26th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

What world is he living in…..They have been saying they want more troops in Afghanastan for a long time….

mrsb   September 26th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Obama is lighting up on Iraq……..the war did start in 2003!

Annette   September 26th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

I think it is the format…..but that should be a point to Obama.

rachel   September 26th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Yeah and barack stop calling john jim. lol

LA33ROSS   September 26th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

This is not exciting. It was funny that he said his running mate was a good partner.

texas voter   September 26th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I wish McCain would quit his stupid laughing he looks like he is very nervous. This is a serious situation, what is his problem

Tandalyn@comcast.net   September 26th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

I'm not seeing it that way. Obama is fighting back and McCain seems ill prepared and flat. Just my take so far

Doug   September 26th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Candy is right, They're almost comatose!

how about Keating 5   September 26th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

i dont think so. mcain is for war and blood.

Why do you never post my comments?   September 26th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Its because Hillary Clinton isn't up there to make it interesting. Barack Obama always was a big yawn.

Norm Rourke   September 26th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Okay John you just bragged about being a maverick. Sick of this Johnny. How about getting off the maverick kick? We don't need a maverick in the White House…we need someone with moxie.

Rick   September 26th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

They had ample opportunity to prepare, If they're tired right now, that's little excuse. If there were a crisis of national or world proportion I would expect a lot. They are flat, they are just making conversation. Their personalities are not in play. Is this new? I can't recall liking a debate ever, but some have made it a bit entertaining. Unfortunately only Reagan comes to mind. I didn't like Reagan and the constant revisiting of his failed policies bothers me to this day. Hopefully Obama will win the election and can end the Reagan era for good.

Norm Rourke   September 26th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Seems they're beating about the bush…Hmmm? Is this a gaffe?

historyactor   September 26th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Very boring with no substance

Robyn   September 26th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

NObama demeans himself with his intentional use of 'John' instead of Senator McCain.

Alexander   September 26th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

to soon to tell ! but I think your prediction is on the right track

Michele   September 26th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

I know Candy..they need to really mix it up. This is sooo boring. Maybe because I watch CNN all the time and I have heard all this stuff before. Maybe they could thumb wrestle, that would be more fun. The Biden/Palin debate will be alot more interesting….her dumb answers and his long winded ones.

Amy   September 26th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I completely agree with you! Very flat, neither are convincing thus far.

Tammy   September 26th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

The canidates have to be nervous. I am very nervous for them.

pek   September 26th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I know i expected obama to be more riveting, but i suppose we should give him time to warm up, mccain seems to be his same pointless boring old self again. what was he talking about cutting ethanol subsidies? why? am i the only one who doesnt understand?

Mary   September 26th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

I am surprised by the aggressive and articulate nature of McCain. He really hit Obama on his vote for the energy bill and his many millions in earmarks. And I'm a liberal Dem.

Torry Smith   September 26th, 2008 9:33 pm ET

i DISAGREE i THINK THAT mCCAIN IS PLAYING INTO HIS HANDS

Richie   September 26th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

The format is definitely not working. Lehrer needs to get control of the exchange.

cb   September 26th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

you think?

Hillary Supporter for McCain/Palin   September 26th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

To early to tell C'mon McCain is killing Obama - sorry Obama your dealing with a man this time John McCain, put country first.

Joni Jones   September 26th, 2008 9:32 pm ET
