McCain ad pins Biden against Obama

CNN

Watch: The McCain campaign released a new ad highlighting Sens. Biden and Obama's difference on troop funding.

(CNN)—In perhaps a sign of what can be expected from next week's vice presidential debate, the McCain campaign released a new ad Saturday highlighting Barack Obama and Joe Biden's differing opinions on funding for troops.

"In the midst of war, Senator Obama voted to cut off funding for our troops," the announcer says. "What did Biden say?"

Watch: The latest McCain ad highlights a difference between Obama and Biden

"They said they voted against the money to make a political point," the 30-second spot shows Joe Biden saying in 2007.

Biden, who is chairman of the Senate's Foreign Relations committee, voted in favor of the troop funding bill last May.

The ad, "Promise," concludes with a familiar line of attack from Friday night's debate in Mississippi, that Obama lacks the experience to be the next commander in chief.

"Barack Obama. Playing politics. Risking lives. Not ready to lead," the announcer says.

The Obama campaign was quick to respond, criticizing McCain for past votes of his own.

"Despite what his increasingly desperate and dishonorable campaign says, John McCain opposed funding for our troops that would have brought them home, while Barack Obama voted against a blank check for George Bush," Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan said in a statement. "So if John McCain wants to talk about funding, he should explain why he voted against life-saving equipment for our troops in battle, voted repeatedly against funding for veterans' health care, and wants to keep spending $10 billion a month in Iraq while the Iraqis have a surplus and our economy is in crisis.”

According to the McCain camapaign, the ad will air nationally.

as obama pointed out at the debate, mccain also voted against a funding bill for the troops. the difference was the 'timeline' theme. so quit lying mccain.

Why can't these Senators do their day jobs? At least it is good to see someone doing their day job. Where are Obama and Biden? This whole bailout is scary. I got out of the stock market before the first melt down in 2004. The election was close and I knew Gore was going to lose. Kerry was and is a jerk who also lost. We already knew how bad Bush was, yet Kerry could not beat him? Obama will lose also, and we have had 8 years of garbage. Why the DNC continues to put losers on the ticket is beyond me. We had a shot this year, but Obamas' "urgency of now" got in the way I guess the "urgency of now" only pretains to his ambitions? He said we need more of a sense of urgency on the economy. I don't know how much more urgent it has to get for him to realize it. This country is in big trouble and it will get worse. WAMU goes bust, how many more banks have to go belly up for Obama to see the urgency"

With all the money McCain has he can not afford the tell the truth about nothing. Obama has a vision for the future while McCain is stay living in the past.

The reality is that when you cannot look someone in the eye it is actually you that you can not face !!!

IMHO McCain 2008 looks in a mirror and does not see McCain 2000 or the war hero – he sees someone that he himself does not respect.

All this talk about McCain not looking Senator Obama in the eyes and that's why he lost the dbate is ludicrous. Senator McCain did not look Obama in the eyes because, like millions of us across the nation, he is thoroughly disgusted by the fact that hatred of Bush has produced such an unexperienced, hollow, empty-suit of a man to represent the Democratic party. How can McCain (or any of us for that matter) be expected to respect a politician like Obama who is nothing more than an elegant speaker (when a teleprompter is present, of course) who is riding on the wave of anti-Bush sentiment?! We need a true Commander-in-Chief, not a Speechwriter-in-Chief. Brilliant performace by McCain last night, and any truly un-biased poll will tell you he won the debate handily.

For a man who is trying to run away from Bush's record he can't run away from his. Milliatry personnel knows that and gave him a "D" and Obama a "B+" in protecting their interests. Obama has received donation from millitary personeel 6:1. Since the fact is out there about each candidates record on protecting the millitary I can't figure which audience McCain is targeting with this new ad except he's showing an act of desperation here.

Do they REALLY want to use Obama's running mate against him compared to using Palin against McCain???????? Seriously?

There is that... and the big battle about withdraw dates. So really this whole issue does not benefit either except for that issue. Actually that should have been in the democratic response and play up McCain's change in timetables.

When will people realize that you can't always tell much from a politician voting for or against a certain bill unless you know the FULL BILL. For instance, the bill Obama voted against contained other provisions he found unacceptable that were unrelated to troop funding. The same thing applies to bills that McCain voted again. This sort of strategy by either side does nothing but fool stupid people.

Thats kind of a losing proposition for McCain...if we're talking about misleading comments on votes, McCain the Veteran voting against Veteran's benefits is a more powerful statement than Obama trying to get a troop timeline included in the funding bill.
