Candidates say they'll probably support bailout bill

Obama and McCain said sunday they would probably vote for the proposed bailout plan.
Obama and McCain said sunday they would probably vote for the proposed bailout plan.

(CNN) – Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain said Sunday they would probably vote for the government's proposed bailout legislation once they check out the final details.

Congressional lawmakers announced early Sunday they made "great progress" toward reaching a deal on the White House's proposed $700 billion bailout plan.

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, said the final plan will be a compromise that includes some of the original Bush administration proposals and elements demanded by congressional negotiators.

In an interview Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation," Obama said he had not reviewed the language of the latest proposal, but he said if the core principles he put forth were incorporated into it, his "inclination" would be to vote for it.

The Illinois senator said the final deal must include strong oversight, make sure taxpayers share in any gains when the market recovers, provide relief for homeowners, and make sure taxpayers' money does not go toward any executives' bonuses.

Obama told CBS that it appears those principles have been included, and if that is the case, "my inclination would be to vote for it, understanding I'm not happy about it. We should have never gotten into this place in the first place."

    THE BAILOUT SUCKS!

Shame on us for electing lawmakers who supported deregulation in the first place! This is what we get for not making lawmakers be accountable to US and for foolishly believing that they have been looking out for us this whole time.

    I'M SO MAD!

Thank you, John McCain, for looking out for the american workers by making that trip to the hill to look after our interests.
You have been put down unfairly by some dems and Obama, but the house republicans have said you contributed constructively, and we thank you.

  6. (CNN) Breaking News:

This just in. We can now report that Sasquatch is alive and well and living in Alaska. The proof has been confirmed. The fact that Sarah Palin was elected to the top of the Alaskan political food chain indicates there are thousands of the species living in quiet and remote villages, throughout Alaska.

Update: The manual dexterity and mental acuity of Sasquatch has also been confirmed and evidenced by the fact thousands of the members of the aforementioned Sasquatch villages were able to find and pull the voting lever for Palin in the last gubernatorial election!

    Stay tuned for further updates!

Don't go out on a limb now and tell us what you support and WHY... just keep playing it safe.

Us voters love that decisive leadership style.

McCain was on the right track going to Washington to get something done. Now he has backed off to be as safe as Obama is.

Dick Morris stated on Fox News that (McCain would ride into Washington on a White horse and save the day and then loop around to the debates on his White horse). Sounds like the only horse stuff here is what comes out of the back end of the horse. To be sure he must cover his horse hocky mouth.

GO Obama.....You are a stand up guy.

  16. REPUBLICAN INTRODUCE AMERICAN TO SOCIALISM

To all the ditto heads screaming Obama will introduce the United States to socialism. Since republicans appear to have a difficult time with both facts and how to obtain them, and ditto heads seem partial to having decisions spoon fed to the them in small easy to remember sound bites, much like a baby eating his or her daily morning pabulum, therefore I have done the research for you.
    .

“All socialists share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth into a small section of society who control capital, and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.[1]”.

One of the extents to achieve socialism is called “social democracy”.

“Social democrats propose selective nationalization of key national industries in mixed economies combined with tax-funded welfare programs”.

As a result, under the last 8 years of republican control in the White House now and control of Congress since 1996 until 2007 the U.S. government now owns an insurance company, two main home financing companies and very soon will own investment and banking firms both national and international in what used to be the private sect.

The bill that will introduce us to socialism is now in Congress and was introduced by republicans under President George W. Bush

    So, to recap:

President Obama will INHERIT an economy that is ALREADY a democratic socialist economy that was set up as a welfare program to bail out the fat cats on Wall Street!

Old man McCain has no clue what he's doing... suspending his campaign? retracting Palin's moronic comments about Pakistan? trying to play superhero in an economic bailout he doesn't even understand?

Even from the vantage point of McCain's NINE homes and THIRTEEN cars, the old man and his beer-queen wife clearly have NO CLUE what's going on in Middle America.

That Paulson, former head of Goldman Sachs, would even insist on secrecy and immunity from court review and oversight, of his and Bush's $700 BILLION Wall Street bail out, makes even more clear that the last thing they are concerned about are the CITIZENS of this country who would be forced by the IRS to fork over the money. America has truly become a plutocracy, a nation of, by, and for the super-wealthy. Time for citizen revolt, say by 50 million of us "forgetting" to file next April!

McCain put forth core principles and people said he had no business being in Washington since he was not on the committee? Is Obama on the committee? He doesn't hold meetings on committees he chairs why would he have input in this committee? Senators and Congressmen discuss and debate their positions and submit them to the committees for consideration. They wheel and deal among themselves in order to get earmarks attached to bills. This is serious business, Obamas' position on everything seems to go in reverse. We should never get to such and such a point is his answer to everything? There comes a time when the why is irrevelant and the how do we fix it is the most important. His not voting for the war has nothing to do with how we fix it. His plan to shuffle the troops from Iraq to Afghanistan will do nothing to stop the cost of war. We have the worst deficit ever and he is still proposing tax cuts? Can people not see through this hyperbole? Neither candidate will achieve their campaign promises. Sarah Palin isn't part of Washington and her lack of expertise on Foriegn Affairs falls to the number one guy, McCain. In the debates I heard Obama defer to the number two guy, Biden on Foriegn Affairs. The Democratic ticket needs to be reversed with Biden on top. Hillary should have been the number one with Obama number two. The Dems. would have had a landslide victory. I stll may write her on my ballot in November. I do believe Sarah will add a common voice to the politics of Washington. We need someone to speak for main street, and can related to the cost of a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs. It will be up to the President to deal with world leaders, the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense and all the other Secretaries are there to advise are they not? I want someone who can order a Phillycheese steak for themselves.
