Palin takes on Biden directly as debate looms

CNN

Watch: Gov. Sarah Palin talks about McCain's performance in Friday's debate and what can be expected from her on Thursday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNN) - Before hunkering down at John McCain's Arizona ranch for three days of debate boot camp, Sarah Palin used a Monday rally in Ohio to throw a few jabs at her Democratic counterpart, Sen. Joseph Biden.

She started by taking a swipe at Biden's age and 36-year tenure in the United States Senate.

"I do look forward to Thursday night and debating Sen. Joe Biden," Palin said while introducing John McCain at a rally here. "We are going to talk about those new ideas, new energy for America. I'm looking forward to meeting him too. I've never met him before. But I've been hearing about his Senate speeches since I was in, like, second grade."

Palin, 44, would have been eight years old when Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972 at the age of 29. John McCain was 36.

Palin turned 18 in 1982, the year McCain was first elected to Congress at the age of 46. If elected, McCain, 72, would become the oldest president in United States history.

The Alaska governor has generally shied away from attacking Biden directly while on the trail, although she did use the "second grade" remark in an interview with Fox News two weeks ago. But Monday marked the first time she has openly engaged Biden in her stump speech.

She also challenged her vice presidential opponent on policy grounds. Speaking in a state that's among the nation's leaders in coal output, consumption and reserves, Palin tried to capitalize on Biden's recent criticism of coal production as environmentally hazardous.

"We're not supporting clean coal," Biden said last week in Maumee, Ohio. "No coal plants here in America. Build 'em, if they're gonna build 'em, over there and make 'em clean because they're killing ya."

Palin promised that a McCain administration will utilize clean coal technologies that seek to mitigate the environmental impact of coal production and use.

"Just recently, Sen. Biden made it perfectly clear that in an Obama-Biden administration, there would no use of clean coal at all," she said, drawing boos from the audience. "From Wyoming to West Virginia and especially right here in Ohio, American coal resources are greater than the oil riches of the Middle East.

"And yet Joe Biden says, 'Sorry Ohio, we're not going to use it.' As for Sen. McCain and I, we will make clean coal a reality, and to help power the American economy with clean coal technology, we're going to look to the hard working people of Ohio to help us do that."

SO if anyone says anything bad about Caribou Barbie, it's sexist, but she can call out Biden for being old? Ageist, much, honey?

Oh, by the way, science [something strange in creationism land] does not support the economic reality of "clean coal". First you have to extract the CO2 from the coal. Next you have to store it someplace. And if that someplace leaks, uh the result would be more breathtaking than all the leg-crossing that went on last week.

Here's two new words for you to learn: Lake Nyos!

Just recently, Gov. Palin made it perfectly clear that in a McCain-Palin administration, there would be no use of truth at all.

McCain didn't utter a word about clean coal until after Obama did.

Please stop spreading those lies in my state Palin. Thank you.

I'd like to hear her explain *how* we are going to use clean coal technology, and why we should use a technology that is behind solar and wind power. This smells like a way to let coal sidestep regulations to help "fund" new research.

Whatever the case, after Palin and Allen met, VECO contributed $5,000 to Palin’s campaign for lieutenant governor. The contributions came at $500 a pop over a two-day period in late December from Allen, his executives and a couple of their spouses, representing 10 percent of all money Palin raised in her 2002 campaign.

Today, Palin is Sen. John McCain’s presidential running mate on the Republican ticket. She’s cast herself as a reformer, the woman mayor-turned governor who cleaned up Alaska’s politics. She now vows to change Washington.

It's time for McCain campaign to let Palin be Palin - and let it all hang out, we keep hearing she’s a good “team player” but someone needs to tell her that being a VP is not a HS BB game she’s playing. Otherwise keep the leash and muzzle on her for another 36 days, unless McCain wants to do a mop-up every time his patchwork VP speaks buth then again he might as well just before he goes into retirement.

Fitting since she's been running her campaign like a 2nd grader

Double standard if I ever saw one. Unless the Obama camp can go after McCain on his age who is 7 years older than Biden. Then Palin is way out of line going after Biden. Perhaps if she had paid attention in second grade, she may have learned acceptable sociall behavior, self-dicipline as oppoes to pouting, and just maybe she would have learnerned how to spek in complete sentences. Who knows she might would have been able to understand world affairs beyond the 2nd grade level.

She need to talk about the Economy Stupid. I think the bush team has lost all touch with reality and allowing her to campaign negative is not going to shore up anyone but the base and that alone will not do the job. John McCain and team need to get their act together or end the campain.

Would it behoove Ms. Palin to issue a statement which represents her own intellect rather than demonstrating her best skill is attacking her opponents with lines supplied by the McCain campaign?

jabs jabs jabs that's all she's good for. If she's wanting to not sound like George W. Bush, she's not doing a good job. If this cheap behavior of hers is what is to be expected at the VP Debate, I am not worried.

She's great at delivering other people's lines, but you have to wonder if she'd have anything to say beside garbled nonsense she had to come up with it on her own.

She's kidding right? All of a sudden she's ready to debate Joe Biden. Does she not realize that in a debate she cannot answer any of the questions with " I find some and get back to ya" This woman is a joke AND it isn't even a funny joke. As a female, I would love to have a female as POTUS or even Vice POTUS, just not her. She is not qualified. She will set the Women's Movement back 100 years. You can't tell me there weren't any other more QUALIFIED females that John McCain could've picked. He needs to be drug tested QUICK, he had to be on something when he picked this woman and I use the term loosely.

SARAH PALIN SHOULD WORRY MORE ABOUT MAKING A FOOL OF HERSELF AGAIN-AS SHE DID WITH KATIE COURIC–INSTEAD OF ATTACKING SOMEONE THAT HAS BEEN AN OUTSTANDING POLITICAL FIGURE FOR 35+ YEARS. JUST BECAUSE ONE HAS AGE DOESN'T MEAN THEY DON'T HAVE WISDOM!

Wonder who wrote that for her..
I think she has been hiding and might jsut well be better than biden gives her credit for.
Of course I also think that something is up with her going to AZ to Debate Camp, and "Todd and the kids coming there as well" ..would not put it past some family emergency that will cause her to not debate, or drop out...this si all being too well orchestarted...almost like the supposed "suspension of the campaign"/
