Obama spent Monday evening in Reno working the phones.

RENO, Nevada (CNN) - Barack Obama spent Monday night in Reno, Nevada talking with officials in Washington and advisors on the failure of the economic bailout plan in Congress.

According to a senior campaign aide, the Illinois senator's remarks in Reno Tuesday will again center on the economic crisis – and how it could affect the average American.

Watch: House bailout rejected

Specifically, the aide told CNN Obama wants to highlight how the crisis extends past Wall Street and touches everyone – from those with 401K’s, to the small business owner trying to make payroll and families struggling with rising living costs.

After his remarks in Reno, Obama is slated to head to the Midwest for several days of campaigning in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Obama, thanks for being THE CALM IN THE STORM. We the American people need a person to think clearly and come up with a solution to save this country. It's unfortnate we cannot rely on the President of the United States nor McCain for good judgement. That's evident because McCain voted with President Bush 90% of the time. The President and McCain are REAL MAVERICKS ALRIGHT...except they rode in on their white horses and took this country NO WHERE!

This eggmo of a candidate, reeks of an empty rubber suit. The phoniness is in his manner of speech. There is a couple of seconds between each word. One almost wants to finish his sentences for him. The Ah, ah's and the and, and's.Duh, duh's, is as if he's purposely trying to decieve . Thus, the snake oil saleman.

Central Florida   September 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

I am not a big fan of the whole bailout, but it unfortunately appears to be a necessary action to avoid financial crisis that would affect most Americans.

Obama has remained calm and focused on bringing the parties together to find a bipartisan resolution. I admire that type of presidential leadership during these challenging times.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   September 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

While Obama stays with the issues McCain is busy trying to coverup for Palin's. What else will McCain try to coverup? You can trust him, I don't, we've had 8 years of lies and coverup.

PD Thomas   September 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Do your thing Obama...that's what will eb the role of the next President. Offer ideas...solutions...but the reason people are hired in positions is for them to do them and do them well. If Obama had to do it all to show leadership then we would be a dictatorship and that is not an acceptble alternative.

McCain could be more constructive. He had a chance to reach out and work together if that was his real goal, but Obama has been burned once with that 'suspend my campaign' stunt. Lesson learned.

Petulant children have no place in the White House which is why McCain-Pailin or Pailin-McCain depending...will not be in there...

Republicans...it's time to 'bet on black'...'red's' played out...

He was on the phone with leaders after the colloapse of lehmen brothers which was two weeks ago to find a solution to the problem. Meanwhile McCain said the fundementals of the economy were strong. The reason Obama's efforts was not covered because drama queen McCain was walking around washington looking for a photo op instead of talking to lawmakers. the whole drama of whether he would show up to the debate added more good for t.v. coverage. Obama has been working hard on trying to get congress to reach an agreement and it has been confirmed by paulson, pelosi, reid and congressional leaders from both sides of the aisle.

California Gold   September 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

I find it unacceptable to break the piggy bank for the ones who got us into this mess and not provide funds for the debtor. Also modify the BK code to grant federal judges authority to modify mortgage loans so the homeowner can hold on to their home. Quid pro quo for both parties.

Larry   September 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Barak Obama is so clueless about the economy he could not sell a coke at the right price and with the right provisions. If he really knew what he was doing, he would get on his plane and go to Washington and meet this the Democrats and Republicans (all of them) and sell them on his plan. He then has to sell the American Tax Payer on HIS plan. So far all he has done is "if you need me, call me". I think this response is indicative of his entire career. He is and has been so focused on becoming POTUS that he has abandoned his job, his responsibilites to the people of his state that elected him, and the American Tax Payer. If he is as respected as he claims, he would sit down with Pelosi, Reid, and Franks and tell them to rally the Democrats to support his plan. Peloci telling 16 of her Democrats that it is ok to vote no is crazy. Sounds like partisan politics to me. I mean really who is eratic here?

Lynn in Saint Louis, Missouri, of course   September 30th, 2008 11:29 am ET

YEP, HE IS GOOD,!!! Maybe he can sell the bad debts to line the street to nowhere OR he could sell them to China and when they have value again they can pick them up and take them home to house all the bad stuff they put out!! We will then have enough money from the sale to do all the things OBAMA has planned for our country instead of giving him the worst economic crisis in our history. We finally get a great PERSON and they let this crisis go and go until they have costs us more and more and then dump it all in Obama's lap. Good Grief. But Obama is out there trying hard and did John, by any chance, say where he is going when he ran off mid stream again? OH I remember, he has to have someone pull up the internet to see what Obama plans next. SELL IT OBAMA!!! SELL IT!!!

PCS / North Carolina   September 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Do not give the CEO’s Golden parachutes. If their company wants money from the bail out plan, the CEO’s contracts should be amended, so that they could not walk away with our tax payer money, in the form of GOLDEN PARACHUTE (GP). Please write to your congressman RE: GOLDEN PARACHUTE. The bill they put forth yesterday still had the provision for the GOLDEN PARACHUTE. (The existing GP on their contracts will still be honored). They must be kidding. They contained the EX pay limit to 500,000, but continued to have the provision for the GP. What it means is, if the CEO’s would not like their salary, they can still walk away with million dollars of our tax money, in the from of a GP.

REMOVE GOLDEN PARACHUTES FROM THE CEO CONTRACTS.

MikeH   September 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

I'm beginning too think Obama can't win with this one, the 'bailout shouldn't happen, it's not for averafe Americans, its for Hedge Funds investors holding bad investment instruments. Let them lose, they're parasites anyway.

I agree with Time Magazine. Credit will become hard to get for awhile but then will loosen up, because all the fat cats still want to make money. The average person won't benefit much from the proposed bailout structure. More emphasis on profits being shared with the tax-payers (us) needs to be written in or just let these greedy scum loose their shirts.

To all you Repugs who took those stimulus checks, guess what you are welfare recipants. It's amazing how people will take something then try to be something they are not and that's RICH!! White people get over yourselves you are in just as bad of a state as the blacks, latino/hispanics,and asians. Ya'll always trying to make it look like the blacks want hand outs when ya'll are the biggiest ones to stick your hand out. We been taking care of you peopled for decades and you act like you been just living on your own taking care of yourselves when you know full well half you about to jump off a bridge because you can't take the pressure of not having or being taken care of. We as African Americans have been standing since the test of time and have proven we are a very strong people who know how to handle hardship when it comes, something you all know nothing about.

Lets get it straight statistically whites have a higher rate of welfare recipants, higher teenage pregnancies, and higher rate of drug abuse. But you know how you are, you paint the blacks with this problem. But hey, it's your little country and you paint it however you see fit, to help you to believe your lie. I really don't know what to say about you people, ya'll are some disturbing people.

Sitting on the side lines talking on the phones and telling the Democrats and Republican leader to "Get something Done " is not my idea of a President..and waiting till Congress has signed the bill into law and waiting till after he has been voted the president before he will take a good look and make sure the tax payers are protected is TOO LATE
Obama is to busy working " the truth squad " and the Ohio early voting . He don't have time to help with the bailout.

John McCain does not have the judgement, temperament or intellect to be president.

Republicans blaming their vote on Pelosi's speech should grow up. You choose to act like children on an important bill, but like your out of touch leaders ( Bush & McCain) you will do nothing until the crisis affect them. Lets see what happens when Cindy's credit card is denied or an AMT does dispense Megan money, bet action is taken then! Bush & Mccain should get control of their party members, offer a better plan, otherwise shut up and work with what you have.

Instead of giving our money to the banks, how about it's used to refinance some of these idiots who took out ARMS and are now losing thier houses?

How about we get some regulations on the speculators. It's their fault the country is in the crapper right now.

Maybe we ought to clean out their pockets to fish the country out.

You know I really laugh when people say Obama suggesting we raise the limits on FDIC to $250k is a stolen idea. Do you think McCain comes up with his own ideas? They have people around them providing advice and they make the decision to discuss it. Don't be upset with Obama for recognizing a good suggestion and relaying the message. It's a good idea and it will help married couples and small business owners who need the extra insurance on their savings and checking accounts. Part of the reason why these banks went under is because people were pulling their money out of the accounts. So banks can't function without money in the accounts. I'd rather try something than do nothing....and yesterday's vote against the bailout was a do nothing strategy.

Obama's riding high with his un-earned celebrity and is NOT ahead in the Polls that are created to Make Voters think and believe that he is. It's all political ploy and the media is definitely giving Obama singular support. The Media Bias is disgusting and real. It is also UNFAIR in a Presidential Campaign. “I welcome any investigation into my past because I have nothing to hide, oh never mind I will not meet with any investigators for any reason ever.”

She believes the Bush Doctrine is a “World View” hahaha

"Look at Missouri.Barack Obama Truth Squad???? What a joke. He is not a leader. He waits to see what McCain say or does and then reacts. What a waste. Him and Biden! And they have the nerve to pint fingers!!!!!!"

Are you serious Kate???? There is something wrong with you!!! McCain is the one jumping on Obama's bandwagon every time he makes an intelligent statement or suggestion. The he try's to make it seem like he–McCain–came up with the idea in the first place!!! Let's take the phrase "Time for Change" for instance....can you say that McCain ran with the whole "Change" theme before Obama did??? Or, did he steal it once he saw how much of an effect it had on Obama's campaign? Wake up honey...McCain is a puppet...and a thief!!!! TRUTH HURTS DOESN"T IT?????

I am amazed that there are so many people who do not understand how this credit crisis will affect them. They are against a bill of any kind. But they do not understand that by doing nothing, they might lose their job or lose their home because their employer can't pay them. I think that Bush should stay off the television, since 72% of America does not trust him.

Yvette   September 30th, 2008 10:57 am ET

Simple Solution for the bailout and financial crisis.

All residential mortgages across the US could be reduced to 5% (no refinancing or closing costs). This would reduce the average americans financial burden which in turn would increase their ability to spend which in turn would stimulate Wall Street. The Banks would still profit but at a lower rate which is better then foreclosing and taking huge losses. Then institute mandatory regulation on all new mortgages generated.

Christine El Paso   September 30th, 2008 10:56 am ET

I love the fact he didn't ride into Washington, act like he was going to do something he knew he couldn't do... he stayed calm and asked his party where they wanted him. He has a job to do right now and right now its not in the Senate, they only have a month to go they have to be on the stump! All he can do is what he was doing in that picture... and at least he hasn't used up all his political capital like McCain did last week with his party!

Alaska hillbilly   September 30th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Let me say it to you clearly. The US as the financial superpower is coming to an end. For decades the preachings of capitalism and deregulate free enterprise was the Bible for the US to expand its influence around the world encouraging the rest of the world to adopt the preachings of capitalism. And after decades of preaching the US is nationalizing giant private companies, showing the rest of the world the failure of capitalism. Free markets and no supervision has proven catastrophic will for the economies around the world.
They US can no more continue to try to convince the rest of the world that capitalism is the solution because nobody will accept it anymore.
A much more balanced system is needed. A system where private enterprise and businesses will coexist with the policies of the state about health care, education, Social Security, infrastructure.
Capitalism as you know it will no longer exist. It failed miserably as a system. Bailing out the giant companies with taxpayers money and nationalizing those companies is the proof of it.

I already sent in my ballot and voted early for Obama/Biden team. My whole family is voting for the Obama ticket..he is the leader that we need. He exhibited calmness to the people, explained the seriousness of the rejected bailout in Washington, the serious impact it will have in our lives, and a very concerned team player who will help find solutions to help America out of this very turbulent economic times created by 8 yrs of a KNOW NOTHING Republican president Bush who was too busy giving away billions and billions of dollars to other countries instead helping his own people and his own country, too busy winking and tap dancing outside the White House Porch as if he was a dance contestant on" Dancing With The Stars" Show, and his Republican cronies who were too busy living the good life on taxpayers' money.

I deeply resented McCain to quickly pointed his arthritic blaming wrinkled finger on Obama who had nothing to do with the rejected bailout yesterday. Republicans are so quick on the draw to put blames on others instead of going back to the drawing board to do alot of brainstorming to solve the economic crisis we are facing. John McBlame others is doing a great disservice to our American people!

1) The bankers have gone on a credit "strike". They are refusing to lend money because they won't get a hefty enough return. The governmenst hould break this "strike". Do what some European countries are doing – nationalise the banks if they won't free up credit!

2) The Black Caucus voted no because there is no provision for bankruptcy judges to change mortgage rates. Good for them!

3) There is nothing in this bill to stop foreclosures – if there is not a moratorium on that, then this bill should go nowhere. This is the people's treasury, not the banks! Hands off of it!

Want to end this crisis? Reset every ARM out there for the homeowners who can AFFORD to stay in their houses at todays interest rates.. I'm a first time buyer, I bought a reasonably priced house – my mortgage broker pushed an ARM my way saying this was all that was available to me. Its about to reset for the second time to 12%. I am prepared to walk away as I will not spend 50% of my salary on a house I will eventually be upsidedown on.

AJ   September 30th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Obama is good at selling snake oil; we have seen that throughout his campaign. What he is obviously not good at is listening to the people who would be his constituents and understanding our grave misgivings about any government bailout plan. It's time to let irresponsible companies sink under the weight of greed and recklessness. Our nation might have a rough period but he market will eventually right itself with no help from the government. If allowed to take its own course, our economy will come out stronger and perhaps corporate America will come out smarter.

Debby   September 30th, 2008 10:36 am ET

BK   September 30th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Obama is one of the reasons this happened. Look up ACORN. We know now what Obama done as a community organizer, he trained the personel to force banks to give loans to people who couldn't afford them. Some of their members are also in jail for voter fraud. Sound familar. This is a radical group that was started back in the 60's. The Dems had in the bail out bill 20% of the profit going to ACORN. The Reps. got it taken out. Better do your research before voting.

The speech Obama gave on the war, he didn't want to give that speech. The left radical group that was backing him with the money told him he better come out against the war.

Someone name calling should stop them from taking care of their business. "I didn't vote for the bailout cause Nancy Pelosi said something mean to me..." Grow UP!!!

THERE ARE MANY COMMENTS BY THE FAR-RIGHT ACCUSING THE DEMOCRATS OF THIS MESS. WELL HERE ARE SOME FACTS THAT.......PROVE.........THE.........OPPOSITE. YOU MUST LEARN FROM MISTAKES SO YOU DON'T MAKE THE SAME ONE OVER & OVER!

1. During the Bush/Cheney/McCain years our National Debt has DOULBLED.......$11.5 TRILLION......OWED to China, Saudi Arabia (the people who attacked us on 9/11!) & Dubai.

2. During the Bush/Cheney/McCain years we have spent ..........$10........BILLION........A.........MONTH in Iraq!

3. At the beginning of 2009, OUR NATION WILL BEGIN THE YEAR WITH .......OVER........$490..........BILLION DOLLARS........IN DEFICIT!

4. THIS YEAR WE HAVE LOST..........600, 000 JOBS AND COUNTING!

5. YESTERDAY......WE.........AMERICANS.........LOST..........$1.2 TRILLION DOLLARS!

YOU CAN BLAME THE DEMOCRATS IF YOU WANT. IT TAKES A BIG MAN OR WOMAN TO ADMIT THAT THEIR PARTY IS WRONG!

I ONCE WAS A REPUBLICAN, BUT ONCE I STARTED TO THINK FOR MYSELF, DID THE RESEARCH, CHECKED OUT FACTS.........IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE LAST ...........EIGHT..........YEARS........OF .........REPUBLICAN......RULE..........HAVE BEEN .......A.......DISASTER!

Maggie from Virginia   September 30th, 2008 10:30 am ET

I can sum it up this mess in one work "Deregulation". John McCain has been a champion of deregulation the entire time he's been in the Senate. And, he said on 60 minutes 9/21/08 that he does not regret it. But, he's NOW for governent bailing out the bums. I say show McCain the door. If this is not enough to send this man to retirement, I don't know what is. God is trying to tell us something. Open your eyes and ears people.

Tucker Bounds   September 30th, 2008 10:30 am ET

Exaggeration and truth-stretching is standard fare in politicking, but McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds took it to a new level today when he told Andrea Mitchell that John McCain’s selfless act of leadership in coming back to Washington single-handedly helped push through negotiations on the bailout bill. Nevermind the fact that McCain still hasn’t contacted the ranking Republican on the Banking Committee, Richard Shelby, and that his campaign is very much still in effect… John McCain put country first and personally saved the economy from disaster. Give me a break.

bigmike   September 30th, 2008 10:27 am ET

I'm sure McSame will come back on his white horse and tell his friends to vote to continue deregulation (look below and read if you don't believe).
1. 1982: Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act
2. 1987: Keating Five
3. 1999: Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
4. 2000: Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which led to the rise of Credit Default Swaps
The common thread? John McCain was involved in all of them.
This mess goes clear back to the 1980s, folks. It flared up a few times, but has now become volcanic. It can no longer be ignored, hence our current situation

Chipster   September 30th, 2008 10:26 am ET

Sen. Obama has been calm and handled this situation well. However, I do disagree with him. A $700 billion bailout only encourages more of the same reckless behavior and endangers important government programs.

Restore banking and market regulations. That's it. Just restore the regulations and let the market adjust. Yes, it will be painful but there should be consequences for the financial orgy that the American people have allowed, even encouraged, for the last 7 years.

John McCain defended his decision to suspend his campaign last week to be on hand as Congress hammered out the details of the financial bailout plan that failed in a House vote Monday afternoon, telling an Ohio crowd that he left the campaign trail because he did not want to “simply phone it in.”
“I know that many of you have noticed, but it’s not my style to simply ‘phone it in.’ I am a Teddy Roosevelt Republican. I believe our leaders belong ‘in the arena’ when our country faces a challenge,” said the Republican nominee. “I’ve never been afraid of stepping in to solve problems for the American people, and I’m not going to stop now

This is the 21st Century where technology (mobile phones, blackberries, email, voicemail, video conferences) help make ideas come into fruition more quickly.

McCain is the 20th Century. Lacking the skills needed for the highest office in America. McCain doesn't have the basic communication skills needed to be a CEO of ANY COMPANY. Maybe a consultant, but then again consultants need to know how to email... Just retire already. We all know you just want to be President to be President. Will you take more vacations that George W. Bush? (IS THAT POSSIBLE?)

Obama-Junkie, IL   September 30th, 2008 10:23 am ET

America fiscally is doomed. The House Republicans are too scared politically to vote for the bill prior to November 4th because they are worried about their own re-elections.

I say let the House Republicans hold up the vote. The Democrats have delivered 60% support for the bill while the Republicans only delivered 30%. Let the DOW go from 12,000 to 9000 and Americans lose about $4 trillion dollars of worth. Then when the unemployment rate goes from 6.1% to 10.1% and banks start cutting credit card limits and refuse to issue out loans to many individuals and small businesses, the many doubters of acting fast will pay the consequences.

This is a great way to usher in a Democratic President and a majority proof Democratic congress.

The Republican party is going down in flames.

Greg   September 30th, 2008 10:22 am ET

OK...quick civics lesson here.

Obama didn't need to get his party on board with the original bill because they delivered all the votes they agreed to!!!

BI-partisan bill people! The Dems provide "X" amount of votes, the Repubs provide "Y" amount.

The Dems came up with the votes they said they would. This was on Bush, and because he interjected himself into it, and McCain to push their party to pony up the votes AGREED UPON!!!

Learn a little about how government works and then you can whine and moan.

Obama isn't doing squat. Oooh, he's on the phone, yeah, probably ordering from Oprah.com.

Hey, all you Republican/McCain/Palin/Bush bashers, Pelosi couldn't even get her own party on board, so don't say it's the Republicans' fault. She was even telling people in her own party not to vote for it. She is the worst speaker of the house in the history of that position.

You want to see how bad things could really get? Just put the 3 Stooges in charge – Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. Reid and Pelosi have destroyed Congress since they took over, and Obama, if (God forbid) he gets elected, will let the idiocy run amok. Obama needs to tell his advisers, "GIVE ME A SIMPLE VISUAL METHOD TO EXPLAIN THE ECONOMIC CRISIS".

I think if Obama borrowed a Ross Perot tactic where he had some simple charts to point to during a town hall meeting or rally, this would greatly increase his stock in becoming the next president of the US.

Sorry but the average American is dumb financially. Using advanced financial lingo is wasted on the average American. Keep it simple and keep it sweet with lots of repetition is the best way to educate Americans.

vonne   September 30th, 2008 10:14 am ET

Just let some of you know...Obama wanted $120 billion dollars added into the bill for ACRON. For those who don't know what this is-it is suppose to help poor families in the projects basically a welfare organization. However, I seriously doubt it would have gotten to the people...The board has to be paid first.

Exactly.

But we're the one's that the Republican's are blaming for letting the bill go down in flames.

Well, that's not true, even though, if it were... I'd understand.

Barack, don't expend any of your politcal capital to help pull their heads out of their butts. Let'em rot and let John Mccain take his own bullets. Sure he puts the country first. Kind of like a bank robber puts the hostage first. He puts the hostage right in front of him to deflect or absorb any incoming fire. That's how he puts country first.

The bailout plan merely puts a band-aid on cancer. It addresses the immediate symptoms, NOT the root cause of the illness.

Repeal the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977.
Dismantle Fannie.
Dismantle Freddie.

If you don't do these three things, we'll be right back here again faster than you think.

It took 13 years after Clinton bolstered the CRA in 1995 for us to find ourselves in our current predicament.. My bet is, unless these three things are not part of the bailout plan, we'll be right back here in less than 10 years.

Stacy from Loudoun County, VA   September 30th, 2008 10:11 am ET

Obama has been presidential during this whole process. The President would not be up on the Hill beating the bill through. He would have people working on that.

Barrack better be very careful. This bailout/rescue is a no win proposition politically. It is obvious that the taxpayers don't like it but on the otherhand the argument is that it is necessary to stabilize the financial markets. Nobody really knows whether this bailout will do what it is hoped it is suppose to do. If this is true then how can anybody argue that doing nothing is worse.

Illinois voter   September 30th, 2008 10:10 am ET

People should realize who is at the root of this problem and vote out of office all those involved. most especially Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who are dirty as mud in this financial mess. The republicans tried to warn about Freddie and Fannie and those two idiots said there is nothing wrong there. and why? because they were in bed with them and they were naked under those sheets. and you can guess at what they were doing. take off the blinders and dont listen to the mudslinging against republicans because those who are throwing that mud are deep in it and they are only trying to dig themselves out and make themselves look oh so innocent. a smart and enlightened voter wont fall for it.

Rob Kole   September 30th, 2008 10:09 am ET

Senator Obama,

Please do not treat us as children, we know what the impact is of this crisis is to us. No need to tell us.

I wonder what the people who voted for you are thinking when they see you still running around the country running for president instead of back at washington doing the job of representing their interests?

Leadership would have him flying back to washington, opening the doors of the senate and calling every single senator to get back in session rather than take time off. Not picking up a phone.

The American people are not sold on this idea because it resembles the fiscal policies that have dominated for the past 30 years, Trickle-Down Economics.

As far as golden parachutes go, CEOs should not get them if the company accepts public funds. Period. Their contracts are easily voided by add terms into the contracts with these institutions that past contracts with executives are voided. I really do not care if the executives take a personal financial hit. Welcome to the country club, boys.

But, can you put someone in charge of a company who has been spanked like that? What sort of job will they do? Can we trust them? Sure, we can. When the penalty is life in prison, they will do it or quit.

JusLaugh   September 30th, 2008 9:59 am ET

McCain has mucked up his campaign so bad that he is now trying to pin everything on Obama. Then, he copies Obama's ideas and presents them as his own...if elected, he will be MUCH worse than Bush.

Obama is coming up with ideas to solve the problem and trying to educate the public on the effects it will have on their lives.

I am still not for this plan, but am glad to see one candidate coming up with solutions rather than severely partisan attacks like every single republican I saw on CNN last night.

It seems that people here in DC are confused after yesterday’s bailout problem. Most are not even excited about the upcoming debate on Thursday. It is like everyone is in a daze. I have not seen this many people silently afraid of the future in my lifetime. It is proof that Obama has been right from day one. This is a “defining moment in our time”, and there is a “fierce urgency” for a need for change, right now. Now even McCain has taken up Obama change message. Yet why some still fail to credit Obama for having the foresight of understanding when he forecasted the magnitude and serious of failed Bush Policies and tearing one another down politics is beyond me. I am shocked that the more Obama tries to stay above the fray, how everyone continues to do the very things he has been speaking against. He seem to be the only serious candidate with a clear understand of the root to the problems here in DC.

Lifelong Republican for Obama, Columbia, TN   September 30th, 2008 9:55 am ET

I am glad to see that Obama continues to manage his fine campaign and attempt to add his informative input on this bailout crisis. I still maintain that neither Obama or McCain need to inject presidential politics into these delicate bailout discussions. The Congress and the Bush Administration need to manage this economic crisis on their own. Obama is demonstrating fine leadership and I am increasingly impressed by this young man's ability to show real presidential leadership. I continue to be shameful of McCain's dreadful performance over the last several months!

Why aren't the main stream news medias caring the story about McCain's campaign manager's company lobbying for Fanny and Freddie right up until the take over and how McCain had lied about this to the public.

McCain is dead in the water if the news medias would do their jobs and report on fact instead of sensationalizing small insignificant events that really give no real insight into the candidates.

It is America's shame that a rag like the National Enquirer is the leading resource for exposing the truth while the main stream media is muzzled.

Anna PA   September 30th, 2008 9:53 am ET

There is nothing that John McCain could say to convince me that he can lead this country. I have seen others write that he makes a good pilot but not a good leader. I agree, McCain does not have the personality to lead. People cannot be afaid to approach the prez. because he will blow his top if they don't agree with them. We need a leader who can listen and melt other idea's into his own to improve upon his idea's.

Obama's is a good and thoughtful leader. McCain will fight with many to try to get his way and continue on the course of war, sending money outside of our country. We don't have ANY money to send anywhere. Another good reason to end the war in Iraq!!!

Dems, Independants some Replubs we can't get comfortable with Baracks lead in the poles. These Replubs will STOP AT NOTHING to win this election (Cheat, Lie, Distort) & WE ARE NOT GOING TO ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN THIS TIME!!!!

NOW HOW, NO WAY, NO MCDUBYA NO MCPALIN!!!

CONSIDERING EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SEEN & HEARD IN THE ELECTION & THE LAST EIGHT YEARS YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE FOOLISH BORDERLINE RETARD TO VOTE FOR MCCLOWN/PALIN TICKET REGARDLESS OF THE MAN'S SKIN COLOR.

BARACK YOUR VOTE!!

Aaron   September 30th, 2008 9:45 am ET

I'm voting for you Barack, but let the bailout die!

Alice Brinkley   September 30th, 2008 9:45 am ET

O'Bomber will call in his comments. His stooges will do all the work, but then he will vote "present".

Barney   September 30th, 2008 9:44 am ET

I hope all you people that voted to put Bush in office TWICE will re-think before you vote republican again.

This country has gone downhill to the point where we are are broke, in debt, and the laughing-stock of the rest of the world.

DO NOT VOTE REPUBLICAN AGAIN – PLEASE – we can't afford more wars, more subpoena-dodgers, more secrecy, more bullying – we can't afford it.

Laura, Boston   September 30th, 2008 9:42 am ET

Senator Obama you are not telling us here on Main Street something we don't already know. How about telling us and your speaker of the house to keep for politically incorrect comments to herself. Why couldn't she have made that little speech of hers after the vote. Is she going to put the $600 I lost in my 401(k) overnight back into my 401(K)?

Also, instead of bashing John McCain for going back and trying to help (at least he tried), why can't you come up with more than well we got to stay out of the way and let the Congress handle this. NEWSFLASH you STILL are a member of Congress or have you forgotten that?

I want a plan that doesn't bail out Wall Street. What economic stimulus plan do you plan to suggest for us whose lives are falling apart because of greed and stupidity on both sides of the political aisle.

DO YOUR JOBS AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR DUMB CAMPAIGN.

LB-NJ REPUBLICANS FOR MCCAIN   September 30th, 2008 9:42 am ET

Let's see when did you switch sides Obama after your buddy Bill Ayers
leader of the Weather Underground Liberation Terrorist Group got tired of setting bombs at Government sites or was it after ACORN got probed by the FBI for unethically bullying banks to give poor credits borrower loans. Good job Obama you and your clonies brought this
economic meltdown to our Country!!!!!

NOBAMA   September 30th, 2008 9:42 am ET

Funny to see Obama out selling the Bush bailout plan.

Looks like more of the same.

More continuation of Bush policies.

When are you idiots going to learn.

Obama will say anything to be president.

Becky   September 30th, 2008 9:42 am ET

You go Barack! Show these Republicans what putting country first really means!!! I think that the GOP should change their slogan to FEELINGS FIRST! They are a disgrace and I wonder if I can sue them for malpractice to recover my 401K loses.....

Greg   September 30th, 2008 9:41 am ET

Time to show McCain how a real leader works.

demwit   September 30th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Why wasn't Obama doing this Sunday night? Am I suppose to feel comforted now??

Tim in VA   September 30th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Talk, talk, talk. That's what this man does best!!!

jack   September 30th, 2008 9:40 am ET

how come we don't hear more about ACORN and it's involvement
with this bailout. How can the President play part well knowing that
this left wing terror organization wold benefit.

Lewis   September 30th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Greg M.   September 30th, 2008 9:39 am ET

Republican G.W. Bush, Republican John McCain, Republican Sarah Palin all of you are REPUBLICANS on the failed Republican team. Republicans you are the SAD problem FOR AMERICA AND THE WORLD, no one else but you. It's about time the circus and clown show the republicans have put on for so long to come to an end now. Republicans get out of the way YOU'VE MESSED YOU ENOUGH, let President Obama lead this country to POSITIVE CHANGE.

S. Boatman   September 30th, 2008 9:39 am ET

Im A Obama Supporter But Im Not Sure The Bail Out Is A Good Thing! Give The Markets A Chance First, But Put Some Regulations Back In Place To Make Sure This Doesnt Happen Again!

foreigner in the US   September 30th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Love that picture.

sm   September 30th, 2008 9:36 am ET

NO BAIL OUT !!!!!!

Let FAILEd financial institutions Fall !!!!!

Phil in KC   September 30th, 2008 9:35 am ET

If he can show a good grasp of the economics and explain it to the population at large, I think it improves his chances of winning considerably. Particularly if he can manage to broker some type of deal behind the scenes.

DebM, Allentown, PA   September 30th, 2008 9:33 am ET

I am SO impressed with the way Obama is handling this whole thing. Anyone who might have had any doubt that he is the right choice for our country should now know that he most definitely is ready to lead us.

Obama/Biden 08!

Baze   September 30th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Jerry Ohio   September 30th, 2008 9:31 am ET

Obama is a true leader ,,,,Obama is trying is best to clean this republican party and Bush mess....Obama will be a good president

mitch   September 30th, 2008 9:30 am ET

it's a rescue! NOT a bailout!

nancy   September 30th, 2008 9:30 am ET

It's nice to know that at least one of the candidates knows what's going on and can do more than one thing at a time. It's so comforting to know that Obama will be our next president. That is if there isn't some kind of "dirty deal" to steal the election. Beware voters and please let the parties know there will be outrage followed by chaos in Washington if this happens. The republican candidates are a sleezy twosome. Trust the "change" machine.

Paco   September 30th, 2008 9:30 am ET

If his advisors are Democrats than you can expect a plan that is BAD for Americans! Pelosi, Frank and Dodd should be removed from any negotiations!

CW in PSL   September 30th, 2008 9:28 am ET

See the difference McRelic....he is not running around blaming people, he is trying to fix the problem you are trying to affix the blame. You and your soul mate moose killer should do the country a favor and permanently "suspend" your campaign!

Alaska vs Russia,Iran and Venezuela   September 30th, 2008 9:26 am ET

My President is working hard to fix the mess that was created by 8 years of GREED, MISMANAGEMENT and LIES.

God Bless you President Obama.
