Palin says she's the 'new energy'

Palin told CBS' Katie Couric she represents 'new energy.'
Palin told CBS' Katie Couric she represents 'new energy.'

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said she was not taking a jab at Joe Biden's age or lengthy stint in Washington when recently joking she had been listening to the Delaware senator's speeches since the second grade.

"Oh no, it's nothing negative at all," Palin told Katie Couric Monday in the latest installment of her Monday interview with the CBS anchor. "He's got a lot of experience and just stating the fact there, that we've been hearing his speeches for all these years."

The original comments came at an Ohio rally Monday, when Palin told the cheering crowd, "I'm looking forward to meeting [Biden] too, I've never met him before - but I've been hearing about his senate speeches since I was in, like the second grade."

Watch: Palin goes after Biden

Some political observers found that comment peculiar, given her own running mate is the oldest man ever to seek a first presidential term. But Palin said she was merely contrasting the differences she sees between herself and Biden.

"He's got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I'm the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he's got the experience based on many, many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want in these next four years," she said.

Palin was 8 years-old when Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972. (Biden was 29 at that time)

Frankly, I would prefer someone who has the guts to stand up to all the stuffy "good ole boys club" crap in DC, admit they don't know everything, but are willing to apply their values and ideals to do what they think is the best for the country. We rarely get the chance to put someone in DC who doesn't have a bunch of favors to repay and even if it's just the VP and not the Pres, that kind of new-ness is refreshing and exciting.

We as American's complain about our politicians and the corruption in Washington, but when someone new to it all it is willing to stand up and let the entire country, media, and frankly the world judge them we write them off an incapable or foolish. Maybe if we were a little more understanding as a nation and let someone less experienced have a chance to prove themselves instead of always electing the people who just had enough money to conduct a campaign, maybe we would all have a new view of our great nation.

I respect McCain's choice to take a risk and let a fresh face into Washington. Maybe the face of the American politician will finally change. Maybe the government "Of the People" will finally have a chance to be "By the People" – any person – and not the "Same Old People".

Sarah Palin is chained to John McCain's leg and he's CLEARLY a "dead man walking" right off the plank!!

Sarah Palin's gaffe over Pakistan just proved that she was validating Sen. Obama's foreign policy because she KNOWS John McCain doesn't have a CLUE when it comes to economic and apparently foreign policy either!! HA! HA!

He was the "CLEAN UP MAN" this morning during the interview with Katic Couric. I mean Jesus, this OLD man looked like Sarah's Grandpa. He kept answering for HER even when Katie wasn't talking to him. AND the the icing on the cake was that John McCain did what he always does, he BLAMES THE VOTER WHO ASKED THE QUESTION and called it a "gotcha question". What planet is the OLD MAN ON? Yes, he BLAMED the voter who asked the question.

I mean who ELSE is John McCain going to blame? I mean is he going to blame his mother for his WHITE HAIR, whose NEXT? The tooth fairy, Santa Claus?

I'm starting to really think John McCain is "damaged goods". Something is NOT right with this OLD GRINGO'S head. I think he's been permanently damaged when he crash his plane! I think he LOST a good portion of his brain cells!!!

  5. Concerned Voter

Okay, now Sarah Palin is coming across very elitist and arrogant by saying, "I'm the new energy, the new face, the new ideas..."

Comments like that work a lot better when SOMEONE ELSE says them about you....not when you make a personal declaration of how awesome you are, when everyone else can see the exact opposite is true. I am going to vote TOMORROW for OBAMA/BIDEN 2008 as an advance voter....

HOPEFULLY, WE CAN TURN THE STATE OF GEORGIA TO BLUE!!!!!

OMG – "New Energy" when she is with the oldest guy in the race. She is not going to be the one making policies, she is going to follow her "grandpa" every step of the way. If we want NEW at the TOP it must be Obama that you vote for.

Palin has neither experience OR informed judgment! I would put the experience and informed judgment of Biden and Obama over Palin's any day of the week.

It doesnt matter if she is completely new. You just need to look at the record and she is a Bush/Cheney, all-in-one laced in a box.

    Like Bush, she
    1 is a governor
    2 left city in debt
3 is oil-based and for oil company
    4 is a Washington outsider

    Like Cheney, she
    1 shoots
    2 determined

    Like both of them
    she'll RUSH to do anything

It's about Judgment, vision and patience. She has none of them for onw.

Geez ... you post'rs here are soooo testy on anything McCain/Palin. You should be happy – have you seen the Polls? Obama/Biden is up by 6 pts. You're going to win easily. Or, have you looked inside the Polls like many others and realized you are losing ...

If Palin is the new energy, Americans don't want the drink. By the way, she better stop throwing those insults out there about Biden's age – remember, you have your daddy as your running mate, Sarah!

Wow – I had thought that elderly caucasians were a key McCain constituent. This is the group that Palin has chosen to mock?

People please – forget about each candidate's color, or gender, or whether they have funny names. This is an historic opportunity to put people "with brains" in power.

I'm not willing to hand power over to IDIOTS – one thinks that "dinosaurs and humans co-existed" (enough of this anti-science garbage), while another thinks that walking around, singing BOMB BOMB IRAN makes him presidential. Are you kidding???

Please, how can she even go there and talk about age? Does she realize how old her candidate at the top of the ticket is? I hope she goes to age. Barack wasn't even born when McCain started his career. She is so clueless and the people tutoring her must be just as crazy. Palin just has to open her mouth and she starts parroting all those ridiculous statements. Biden just have to sit there and bow his head. Palin is Palin's worst enemy. Go Biden.

She is going to take all of John's energy. How will John be able to run the country w/ all the issues we have and babysit her as well? It was sad to see that she had to go back on Katie Couric w/ her daddy and everytime Katie asked a pointed question, Papa McCain has to step in.

Man! Palin just can't get anything right. She wants the public to choose between expereince and "new energy" and ideas? Is she paid by Obama? Isn't that Obama's whole campaign?

Please, Senator McCain – shake this race up one more time and dump this incapable candidate. The Republican Party needs more credibility than Palin has to offer. And Alaska – you ought to dump her, too.
