Sick and tired of all this bashing.

Come on! There isn't a single sidewalk quarterback out here who would not get bashed to high heaven, not one who would have all kinds of nitty faults found out about him or her, if he or she made a run for it. And once in office - ANYONE who is elected will get hit, and get hit hard, by both sides: too much this way.. no, no, too much the other way. Anything and everything that goes wrong will be blamed on that person, including Obama. If elected, he WILL be blamed for plenty of stuff, rightly or wrongly.

What I do NOT like is the debate I heard the other night where Obama just simply could not stay with the issue to be decided on. He HAD to repeatedly and continually cast blame on the Republicans. I cannot abide that at all; that dirty bashing nauseates me. What goes around comes around, MISTER Obama. Sometimes big time! I find myself really hoping that it does.

Yes, I'm a whitey. But yes, have very, very close black friends. My dislike is for bashers, ANY bashers, not a dislike for race.

Give Sarah a break. She might end up being better for this country than any of you could ever be, and better than any of the other three. Wouldn't that set your flapping jaws asunder.

Why stop at adding credit card debt, lets add unpaid student loans, how about library overdue fees and video rewind fees? Lets pay off every single overdue notice and delinquency all in one shot.

We can just have other people pay for it. How about we call in the markers other countries owe us? I know the Marshall Plan has never been paid back and Europe seems to have money to spare. How many billions have we "loaned" Israel since the 70's and not one penny has come back? Not to mention the many many other countries that owe us in one way or another over the years.

What? That's a crazy idea? And you think printing 700 billion dollars, allowing the government officials who helped cause this and give it to the companies that racked up the debt IS a sane one? The Germans once printed money to pay off their debts, how did that work out again?

to john above regarding contributions from Freddie and Fanny

Do some research before you contribute to the discussions. Obama's contributions came from employees of the companies. McCain had even more contributions from the companies although his came from the CEO's and executives (you know, the crooked ones who caused the problems....).

Oh, and McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis has collected over two million dollars in fees up until last month through his lobbying company.......

So, john, just STFU until you actually look past the republican spin and do your homework.

Colin: A better question in my mind is why is a body of the US govt taking a Jewish holiday off? It is not a national holiday in this country. Does the govt of Israel take off on our American holidays? Should any holiday be observed during what they themselves have deemed a national catastrophe?

Thank you Senators Obama, Biden and McCain. Please let all the other Senators know that if our founding fathers had not understood when it was time to work together and move in a new direction; our country would now be called 'New Britain'. We would be using the metric system, buying petrol and driving on the left hand side of the street. Now is the time to make the best choices for the American people.

Democrat for John McCain

"Obama is coming to DC to vote 'Present'. What a hypocrite. he has done nothing and he knows nothing. Sikcne when did he become an economist. He has no experience in politics and now he wants to talk about bailout. He has blinded Americans and media has been pro-Obama. Barack -Get lost."

Sorry Democrat, if you do not see that Obama has more leadership skills in his little finger than all of McCain has, then please vote for McCain. In fact, just join the Republicans and do us a favor. I am not happy that Hillary lost but Obama is the better choice. I can not and will not turn our country over to a bunch openly crooked and hypocritical excuses for leaders. We have suffered enough the last 8 years. NO MORE!

If Paulson sincerly believes that his plan is the right thing to do than he should demonstrate his sincerity by resigning. If he is unwilling to let other people execute his plan... than the truth is he is just looking for another opportunity to further enrich his friends.

We're not talking about credit cards people. We're talking about credit that your employer needs for payroll, supplies to maufacture items, people being able to buy cars, houses, etc. If people can't buy, there is no trickle up theory.

For anyone that has a doubt, such as John who wants to know how many earmarks are in the bill. Go online, the entire bill is there for you to read. If more people would read it then they would understand. This is not just about Wall Street! It's about the banks extending credit to our employers, etc. for daily operations, when the business is small or employs thousands of people.

Get real and read the bill before you make any more stupid comments. As usual the majority of the American public starts speaking before they do their homework and make uneducated remarks.

It appears there are a lot of people who are offering strong opinions about this bill who have not even skimmed its actual contents. Yes, it's 110 pages of somewhat dense legalese. I just don't understand how you can:

1. Criticize specific components of the plan that simply don't exist
2. Offer opinions on the net impact of the plan unless you are a Wall Street veteran or a PhD in economics
3. Regurgitate opinions of partisan political pundants who are not qualified to offer an informed opinion or have a huge axe to grind regarding the bill

The proclivity of some people to confidently and loudly proclaim their opinions is often only outstripped by both their lack of knowledge and their ignorance of the facts. If you do not understand the bill, please shut up and let your elected representative take care of it.

In a free market democracy, we get the leadership we deserve. If we want propaganda over facts, the media gladly dishes it up. If we demand easy credit to buy gas guzzlers, homes we can't manage and cheap foreign products from mega-stores that kill local economies, they gleefully give it to us. When we prefer jingoism and xenophobic contempt over empathy and self-examination, we set ourselves up for isolation and attack. Every time we vote for mediocrities pandering to our petty intolerance and selfishness, we ensure that petty intolerance and selfishness rises to the top.

America, the enemy is us.

Since I can't comment on the Fact Check entries here, I would at least like to throw this out there -- how hypocritical of McCain to say that he is outraged by "gotcha" politics, and then runs advertisements that are exactly what he is decrying. Although it has been apparent for a while that it is no longer true, I do mourn the fact that this man was once looked up to as a straight talker. Had he taken the high road in this campaign, it would have done untold good for future elections. Instead, we get this muck.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. Wall Street does NOT need to be bailed out. Main St. does. Us citizens (the government, on out behalf) should but up the mortagages and maintain payments so people can stay in their homes. Let Wall St. take the hit for their "paper" losses and go home. The American people will make a profit to fund education, social security, national defense (the reason for thre Federal governemnt in the first place) adn its a win-win. Except for the people who won't be making the obsene profits they posted on paper. They lose nothing but their plans - not a dime!

I think they should vote the whole bill down and let the credit crunch fail. For far too long American, hell, the World has been living beyond their means. So what, we might not get to have the newest '09 car and may NOT get into a home that we can't afford. We may have to buy second hand all the way around, clothes, cars and rent an apartment. The small businesses that have been seduced on living on LOC may need to go bust and rebuild, lesson learned. We are Americans and we need to quit letting the world, the politician and the big business bankers tell us how we should run (or ruin) our lives.

I am ready for whatever this thing throws at me.

If 90% of the foreclosures are in four states, then only 10% of all foreclosures occur in the other 47 states. Why do we need a bailout system for the other 47 states? If 75% of all subprime mortgages are doing just fine in repayment, why do we need a system to bail them out? If Sonic franchisees cannot get credit from Sonic, how about using cash? Pay as you go built many a business in this country. Successfully. If the principal problem is that a house is not worth what the note on it says, whose fault is that? If home builders over built and saturated the market with homes that are not selling, how does that differ from any other producer who misfigures his market and has a surplus of product and a dearth of customers? And why should the mechanic's family in Wasilla, the car wash attendants' elderly parents in the nursing home at Cicero, Ill., or the autistic grandson of the daycare school's custodian in Lindale, Tx, pay to keep the Bank of America's balance sheet attractive? In spite of the "chicken littles" and doomsayers, the hysterical henrys and nervous nellies pleas for immediate and gross changes in the American System, I counsel careful consideration of the causes of each of the problems, with problem solving focusing upon doing only as much as is absolutely necessary to correct this period of adjustment. After all, a $100 billion here, a $100 billion there and pretty soon we're talking real money.

So the Senate is going to vote for the giveaway, and the last I heard there is another tax cut added for big business. There's no reduction in money given, the oversight board is not an independent board...it's all Bush people. And we're giving a blank check for one person to use unilaterily(sp?)

You are not making any change for America, not helping our country or our citizens who make under $250,000 annually. This is, as they say about the Senate often, just another exercise of mutual masterbation.

You are wrong about needing credit; our problem is that more then all the wealth we have, has been loaned out THERE IS NO MORE MONEY WE HAVE SPENT ALL OF IT. What is now needed is no credit period we must live within our means. This is the correction of the fallen value of the US dollar and money rescues just devalue the dollar further creating a deeper crisis. The dollar is given value by the wealth we collectively own.

All loans must be paid off however they can be. Businesses could be extended credit on accounts receivable; payroll, bills and material should be covered by profit realized that means you earn the money first. The housing market has been inflated beyond all reason by the folding in of credit card debt, and must be readjusted. This means that bailout money should go to purchasing these properties at a real value and negotiating a reasonable payable loan with either the present owner or a new buyer, but the credit card debt that has been rolled into these mortgages must be jettisoned from them. There will be losses but it is really a question of admitting the losses that have already occurred.

It sounds like this "rescue"/bailout plan is going from bad to worse and even though I think something may need to be done, the bill seems to be getting worse with each revision. I find myself in sympathy with the "nay" voters, and surprisingly more in line with the conservative Republicans than the liberal Democrats. I am a fiscal conservative after all.

Our lives are at stake and it is in the House hands. These are the people that you have elected. We are in a recession. For goodness sakes people they have put a clause in there which is (oversight ) which means ( if) there is an error it will be corrected. My understanding of the money issues is that it will be posted online every 2 days so that you can see how the money is being distributed with taxpayers money.

You have no other choice but to do this. Businesses live off of credit to buy things and pay employees which is you and to keep the business alive. The FDIC will increase to $250,000.00 so that people will not panic and take their hard earn cash out the bank, The bank make loans off your money. If it is not there then they will put a freeze on everything.

So it is your call, however there is no choice but to hope and pray for a change that things will get better.

What about the Governor with the Executive experience????
We need her to tell Congress what to do. Hopefully no one will have any hissy fits and not show up or get mad when someone says something that is not too nice.
Do your Job Senators! Please no temper tantrums and do what is right for us the taxpayers and get it done! That excuse to do nothing because of Pelosi's speech was a joke. Grow up Washington and do your jobs!

Senator Biden is absolutely correct regarding Roosevelt. CNN let's keep you honest.. Shame on you!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt : Elected to four terms in office, he served from 1933 to 1945 and is the only U.S. president to have served more than two terms. He was a central figure of the 20th century during a time of worldwide economic crisis and world war.

During the Great Depression of the 1930s, Roosevelt created the New Deal to provide relief for the unemployed, recovery of the economy, and reform of the economic and banking systems.Although recovery of the economy was incomplete until almost 1940, the programs he initiated such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) continue to have instrumental roles in the nation's commerce. One of his most important legacies is the Social Security system.

The housing market has been inflated beyond all reason by the folling in of credid card debt, and must be readjusted. This means that bailout money should go to purchasing these properties at a real value and negotiating a reasonable payable loan with either the present owner or a new buyer but the credit card debt that has been rolled into these mortgages must be jettisoned from them. There will be losses but it is really a question of admitting the losses that have already occurred.

Vote Palin!!!!!

Maybe if Sarah Palin gets in to the white House she can reform government. She will take the useless government members out; keep just enough to run the Country. That would save hundred thousand of $ to help wall street and America.

I just realized one thing that got me thinking. I usually get multiple credit card offers every week. But other than my current card wanting me to transfer other balances, I havent had one credit card company trying to get me to sign up for one in the last 3-4 weeks. Perhaps credit really is drying up for us typical people.

And by the way, the Senate is doing this at night because of a Jewish holiday. Perhaps people making an issue think they should ignore it? Democrat for McCain, when Obama actually votes will you post on a blog here that you were wrong? Probably not.

People, listen and keep an open mind about this. If the credit is not available for those of us who have small businesses or work for corporations already experiencing financial difficulties, many of us would be without jobs and many of our families would be in the middle of a financial nightmare. Not the best solution one can think of but after listening to different sources and being warned of the potential outcome if no action is taken, I think that it is a least a shot. Just make sure to vote based on who you really think would be better at getting us out of this mess!!

The rest of the world is doing bail outs. They've done it in the past. It works. They're waiting for America to fall in line. And if America falls in line, it will work for the world. If America doesn't...well...the world will have a problem with their money in America.
And that is one of the foundations of our economy. It's a global economy stupid.
We need a bail-out.
We just need to figure out who gets the help now.
Hopefully not the CEOs that caused this crap.
In the long run, it will work.

Mr. Obama has never had a job, never signed a payroll, never
run a business never taken responsibility for anything of any importance
and is basically just a windbag.
He should be a commentator.

I am surprised that Obama can take the time off to be bothered by such a trival problem. He usually just waits and does nothing qand then points out the problem and never gives a solution. Maybe this time he has had time to talk to his mentors , Reverend Wright , Ayers and Resko. Oh I forgot his bosses Michelle Obama and nancy Pelosi. All these women wanting to vote for Obama after the way they did hillary clinton and now the same tactics being used by the Obama camp , the dnc leadership and the liberal media. They must know that you people are crack heads and have not got no diginity , self respect or a brain left in your head. No self respecting man will vote for Obama that has been called , whitey , cracker or racist. I would vote for Putin before I would this black anti american socialist. Putin is more of a capitalist than this guy.

This is to DAVE who wants to know why George Bush is tied to this mess..
It all has to do with BIG LIES DAVE... Big lies George Bush has told to this country almost since the day he was first elected. Now it's like the little boy who cried wolf once to often. We the people, don't know if we should look for the wolf or just keep on walking. It seems most of the folks now prefer to just keep on walking rather then fall for another George Bush Lie...

Rather then make his money men, who by the way failed him, stand up in front of the people they are trying to get the money from (us) and tell (us) they have stollen from us, he, being big daddy Bush, thought he could come out once again and scream WOLF WOLF and we would all be very afraid and give him the gun to shoot the wolf . Instead we have told him to go kill the wolf himself.

And so the story goes Dave, don't cry wolf unless there really is one whether its in Iraq or at home.....

I agree with you Ron, the Reps. are setting the Dems up, and when the voting is done, McStupid will tell everyone how he voted no to the bailout. That way he can be a hero to the American people. Scary thought!!!!!!!!!!

I am asha.med of the American media. It is very obvious to the world
that they are sexist and totally biased in favour of Obama.

I just hope that Americans see the system for what it really is - a sham! We keep talking about change but we really do not want real
change. I hope Palin whips Biden on Thursday.
