The House is expected to vote on the bailout bill Friday

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The House of Representatives is expected to vote Friday on a massive plan to pump government cash into the lending industry, Democratic leadership aides told CNN Wednesday.

The House dramatically rejected an earlier version of the plan on Monday, dealing a stinging defeat to the White House and Congressional leaders, who had spent more than a week negotiating the deal.

The Senate is voting on a new version of the bill on Wednesday, partly in order to increase pressure on the House to pass it.

The degenerate liberal Mr. Frank as well as highly corrupt individual and an imbecial at that should be forced to resign immediately. The other imitation of a human being, Ms. Pelosi also highly corrupted and most likely a socialist with communist tendencies should go home, cook a meal, wash the windows and stay there for the rest of her life.

Ken   October 1st, 2008 4:59 pm ET

I invite you to go see Rick's (3:44) comments. This should give the 55% of us that use our brains some insight into the 45% that don't. Can you believe the FoxNetwork-generated delusion that is exhibited there? This is a prime example of why everything regresses when the neo-[R]s get into office: policies, goals, initiatives are all based on this [R]ightwing ideoloical fantasy world they have going, and not on reality — the neo-tard ploy to attempt to divert the blame for this financial meltdown away from [R] deregulation and lack of oversight to Jimmy Carter is a familiar pre-adolescent ploy to illogically divert blame. The issues of the modern world are hard enough to deal with, without ignoring reality and instead doing what 'the voices' tell you is correct. YOUR boy G. Bush has been running the country like this for 8 years now, and not surprisingly he has us spiraling back into the Dark Ages. And morons like Rick, that live in an intellectual vacuum and watch slackjawed as FoxNews tells them what to think, are actually cheering.

Hope the House says NO again…….listen to the American Public and vote for the people and not for Corporate Wall Street and the lobbyist who are writing the legislation, say NO NO NO thats what the Constituency is saying NO BAILOUT.

Schneider (D) - CA   October 1st, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Stupid Dems in Congress appear to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once again!

What part of NO BAILOUT do they not understand?!?!

Artificially propping up housing values will not help anything! This bill is poison for the dollar! Did you notice how the strength of the dollar went up after the bailout failed?!?! No more debt, no more deficit, no more weak dollar! No bailout!

Don't lure me congress - it is a still a wolf, whether there is a sheep's coat or not. NO ONE I KNOW or have I read on blogs approves this bail out - just all the rich greedy people and the bankers - disgusting to me as congress works for me- they need to listen to the outrage of the people. I am not voting for anyone who supports this bill and they have heard from me in writing and emails and phone calls.
Don't lure me congress - that is what the problem is - congress expects the citizens to roll over and it is not happening.

They were right to vote it down Monday and they will be right to keep voting it down.

N.S of Huntsville, Al   October 1st, 2008 4:35 pm ET

I thought they were voting today? That bill needs to start over and let it have more thought. What is the rush?

Its not a good bill so just start from scratch and listen to the people (tax payers) and try a new avenue.

Americans have no trust in Bush and no trust in Congress, and rightfully so. I'm proud that Americans are finally demanding careful consideration of this issue and not blindly accepting whatever Washington vomits out.

Ok, dose most of the world have blinders on or did I just miss the boat!!!!
anyone with half a brain knows the Dems are the ones that got us where we are today. They where the one that did nothing about Fannie and fready, and they where the ones that stopped the bailout deal from going through on Monday. You can all blame the right all you want, but you mean to tell me that that turd pelosi could not pull together 12 more votes, whatever. she feels that the congress Dems are at no fault and the right is all to blame, even McCain, but their was no clause to add acorn to the list in till Obama got involved and that is part of what took so long to come to the first vote.
all I can say to pelosi polish a turd and it is still a turd!!!

Erik Stremke   October 1st, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Trickle up economics.

Use the $700 billion to provide every household something like an EBT card for 1 year of mortgage or rent payments. Have all delinquent mortgages reset as current, remove late charges and give fresh start. Guarantees all mortgages are paid for a year, allows saving, and frees up spending cash to fuel economy. Could also add in an EBT card for say $300-$500 per month on groceries, and maybe a gas card. Use the $700 billion for all the people who will be paying it anyway, not to the ones who get huge payoffs for failing (Wachovia and other execs). Let the money trickle up. Its our money anyway, give it to Main Street, not Wall Street.

What kind of 'drama' will Mr McCain think up this week, as his panties get bunched up where his balls used to be? I do feel so sorry for him: he's picked a certifiable moron for a running mate, and his only supporters are the House [R]s who are the biggest set of dimwits in DC.

Greenspan, Gramm, Leach, Bliley, Bush… Republicans made this mess.

Democrats have been nominally in control of Congress, but with Republicans able to block any vote they want in the Senate, the Democrats haven't been able to make a move for the past two years unless the Republicans agreed.

Learn a little bit about how Congress works before you shoot your mouth off.

Votes are done alphabetically!! I do not like this but what the republicans have gotten us into over the past 8 years is exactly what happened before the crash of 1929. McCain has had a huge part in this mess and shame on them!!!! Obama has the right idea about building our country back up from the bottom up!!! Jobs, jobs and more jobs. That is what was done after the crash! WPA and CCC programs. The TVA was great also!!! This could all been done going "green" and new electric grid for wind and solar!!! Obama has the intellegence and the ability to not "piss people off" like McCain does. besides rumor has it McCain is having small strokes. CNN–check this out.

Why do people say the Bailout will not cost us money. We will BORROW the $870Billion. At 5% that is $43.5Billion per year to OUR lender and $43.5Billion added to deficit.

Remember when the Deficit was an issue? There is only so much money that Congress can spend after the mandatory payments starting with interest on the National Debt. This interest payment reduces by $43.5Billion funds for other programs!

Even if we get the $870Billion back someday, we lose the interest every year!

There has to be a better way!

I just wanted to add to the comment I just made.Look you want proof about what I'm saying. When do you see the Mom and Pop store put their self's right out there to try and get to us. Well "DA" isn't during tax return because people got some real cash in there hand to pay bill's and buy thing all at the same time. Well then wouldn't it make scene to put some big money in avg Americans hands and then they go out and help Mom and Pop pay their bill's and every one is happy even I can think of this why can't you. You've got the big degrees in front of you names. And this time of year would help out a lot if you'd just get it to us rather than talk about it.

Matt   October 1st, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Bailing out corporate executives will not rebuild the economy. Take a lesson from history: We cannot buy our way out of a recession - we must get our hands dirty and dig our way out!

Invest that $700M in public works. Invest it in the infrastructure that will boost our economy and decrease our dependence on oil (subway systems, light rail systems, etc.). Do this, and I promise you, the folks building our infrastructure from the ground up will do more for the economy than the fat cats on Wall Street.

Being a world recognized Democracy and Capitalistic society, how can the US Government even think of using Taxpayer dollars to " Bail Out" companies, that, due to their own short sighteness, and their own mismanagement, have run their companies into a Bankrupt situation. Socialism and Nationalism procedures should not be an option.

If , I , being a small business owner, and corporate Taxpayer, mismanaged myself into this situation, will the Federal Government step up and bail me out? — I think not!!

And how about those " Credit Default Swaps " out there that are in real trouble and obviously will soon face collapse ? —–

Will this be the NEXT Bail Out????

WHERE DOES IT END???

Leah   October 1st, 2008 3:56 pm ET

It seems like Congress is stumped - they want to add "presents" that do nothing to correct the flaws in the bill. The first thing people want Congress to do is get the money from the executives of the failing companies. They are the ones who took it. Look at the Freddie Mac golden parachute - there is a good percentage of the $700 billion, and that is only one company. Why is this too difficult for Congress to figure out? Until they get this done, there is not going to be support of the bailout. We taxpayers are tired of playing Charlie Brown to the Congressional version of Lucy. Oh, sure, THIS time you won't forget to do your jobs in the oversight committees (Dodd, Frank, Reid, Pelosi) and THIS time you really will make the SEC and other regulators do their jobs (Paulson, Cox). I see a lot of complaints in these blogs about how Palin lacks experience but look at what all these "experienced" politicians have done to us.

Robin   October 1st, 2008 3:56 pm ET

I've been listening to the bail out options. I want to know why the answer for resolving the Wall Street issue is a bail out but when the question is asked why can't we work out the issue from the bottom up, the answer is about banks ability to LOANING the American people money for their mortgage needs. Why can't the American people get BAILED OUT OF THEIR MORTGAGES? Haven't we bailed out this country enough in taxes? Isn't that what our taxes if for? A CONTINUAL BAIL OUT?

McCain's new strategy centers around getting rid of earmarks, yet his Repub house base is insisting on including them in the bailout bill before they sign it. If he gets elected, he'll have to undo what his base is just now doing. If he were really the great leader he claims to be, and has been hands-on with the negotiations like he claims to be, then he should have been able to get the House to vote on the bill this week "without preconditions." He knows how to win wars, but he doesn't know how to win over his own party. Humpf.

tpipe Owosso MI   October 1st, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I have a new plan to work with here.
Instead of $700billion dollar giveaway to banks, How about $50,000 per household to pay off on their mortgage(only their mortgage). The banks get the money, the homeowners get some relief and it would save roughly $200 billion dollars verses the plan being voted on.
Talk about an economic stimulus. I am not anywhere near a liberal, far from the socialist ideals of Marx it just makes more sense to me.

Armando   October 1st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

This violates our constitution. Call and say no to the bailout. No blank check to Paulson and his wall street buddies. The market must regulate itself. We cannot let the dollar lose any more value. No bailout is better than the bailout itself. The bailout should be last resort.

enough with this temperary solution if the house is already on fire put some effort into puting out the parts that are burning and prevent it from spreading already. people are consentrating to much on making more credit available to the very people who can't afford the credit they have. find a soultion for the small bussiness and those who need it to keep the market going, like payroll, and others that can afford it. handing out tax payers money to solve a problem that is only a problem because noone put regulations on the faultering economy back when they issued the economic stimulas package, which was a clue to the direction the financial institutions were headed.

This speaker of the house has some of her own accounting to do , she directed $100,000 grand from her political action committee to her hubby's real estate investment firm , paying with political donations that she had opposed last year. the payments increased over time when her husband took over the treasury position of her committee, how can this women be in this position , this is an outrage , if not for mere incompetence as it relates to her job but for the fraud that she is, she has the nerve to distort the political process and debate over this bill , she imposes the bias of her party to elevate Obama as a HERO, shame , shame , what a scam on the American people..

In 2003, Frank said: "These two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not facing, not facing any kind of financial crisis. The more people exaggerate these mortgage problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."

Frank then used the federal lending agencies to promote housing loans to poor Americans. But when he took over as Finance chairman in 2006, he saw the risky loans firsthand. So his committee created an oversight body, called the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which accomplished nothing..

Sadly, I think there will be even less Representatives inclined to vote for it now that they're injecting so called "sweetners" into the deal, most of which have nothing to do with the current crisis.

Is there intelligent life in Alaska? Sarah is not representing the state very well. All this time I thought Alaska would be at the forefront of environmental issues, and yet we see pictures of a gutted moose. I thought the state promoted fishing and clean air, and we get images of pipe lines. I thought we had leaders who were well read, and informed, and we get interviews by Sarah Palin who recites GOP talking points incoherently.

I've learned more than ever that I'm voting for the right ticket, and that my aspirations to visit Alaska can wait.

Sue   October 1st, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Gosh, Scott, McCain and Palin are already multimillionaires, which is why they don't bother to learn about economics and what affects real people. She talks like a hick, but it's all an act. She put her town into debt for an unused sports arena, and her state has oil money, so it would be hard for even her to screw their finances up.

This bailout is still a bailout, no matter what CEOS and Buffet are saying. It will not help the average citizen who pays their mortgage and is trying hard to save their own funds for retirement…not looking for a handout.

And gee, the market is just fine again today. What crisis???

If we as a society continue to focus on short-term solutions to long-term problems, we will be a short-lived society. Financial institutions have encouraged people to live beyond their means on borrowed money and we have become overextended. It is disconcerting to hear the politicians one day say are economy is fundamentally strong and a few days later say that we are in the greatest economic crisis in recent times. Please don't push through a reactive plan in crisis mode — focus on the root causes.

It is hard to believe the American people would ever vote for the McCain Palin ticket. When asked to name what specific newspaper publication she reads, she could not name the name of one paper. That's because she has never been interested in what was happening in the world or the lower 48 states. Most likely has never even picked up a newspaper to read. You can stop at any convenience store in the US and pick up a copy of the USA Today, or what about the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times. Any person with a brain could of come up with something, but not Palin. And this is who people want to vote for as our next VP and possible the next Pres. of the USA.

Here are some of the special-interest provisions that are now part of the Wall Street bailout legislation. The bill started at 3 pages, grew to 106 pages, and is now 451 pages.

* Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
* Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
* 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)
* Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
* American Samoa (Sec. 309)
* Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)

What I don't understand is why our leaders could not make decisions on behalf of their subjects. I know we elected them into office but to sit back and watch our economy go bad is something I haven't come to grasp yet. Give the Treasury Sec some money to work with and hammer out the rest as the days go by. But not to act and watch our economy tank is even worst.

The Bill in the Senate is no different than one rejected by the House earlier this week. The only thing added was some tax cuts. Adding "presents" to get votes doesn't change the fact that the basic philosphy behind the Bill is 100% wrong and will lead the United States in the wrong direction.

This won't be for Main ST. It'll be for Wall ST and their investments in derivatives, hedges interest rate swaps, etc., which have nothing to do with mortgage-backed securities. Also, we'll be buying foreign investor financial securities.

What needs to be done is regulate Wall ST and their exotic financials, put the bank liquidity ratios back to 10-1 not 30-1 and redo the mortgage loans that are financially sound.

Investors know the risk when they invest - let Wall ST suffer the pain for the risk that they took. I'd rather suffer the pain of frozen credit markets than the bailout/rescue Wall ST, because Part 2 of the credit freeze will come to roost in 2009-2011 from the 5/25 mortgages that will start to reset in California, Nevada, Texas and Florida.

PLEASE PELOSI   October 1st, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Be very careful how you speak to the fragile male egos of the House republicans that last childish display looked like a bunch of pouting babies missing their little binkies!

Not very manly!

This leadership disgusts me! Let's vote them all out and put them back on Main Street!

On Palin:

Unfortunately…or should I say fortunately…the rabbit is already out of the hat. Its a bit late because everyone by now already knows that she's not quite ready to be the V.P.

On The bailout:
By rejecting the bailout…it does help Obama right now but in the long term it probably would hurt everyone including the next president therefore its probably in his best interest to vote for the bailout. I'm not sure if I'm for the bailout…we should let wall street breakdown some…let them hurt a little bit more…show them that they aren't invincible….hahahaha

COUNTRY FIRST?   October 1st, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Maybe John McCain can…………SUSPEND………..his campagin again tommorrow in order to get Palin OUT of the Debate with Joe Biden.
If she is allowed to attend tommorrow night's debate……She will not only cook her goose………but John McCain's too. Her performance in tommorrow's night debate will bring attention to John McCain poor judgement and his impulsive and erratic behavior.

John McCain NOT READY to LEAD. TOO IMPULSIVE, ERRATIC
AND UNSTABLE.

I still say no socialism for the rich. Please shelved the bill and let the adjustment to place. Those who mismanaged their finances, be it managers or bankers should suffer the consequences.

This is a slipery slope, where and when is it going to end. The more you give those people, the more they're going to ask.

We need a new president to fix the mess being allowed by the repubs.

The Dem will fix the country again.

Obama/Biden 08/12.

Candy West Virginia   October 1st, 2008 2:22 pm ET

John, now that you looked like a complete idiot when you couldn't even get republicans in the house or senate to go along with you why don't you drop out. Forget about your claim of reaching across the isles, you can't even reach across to your own party. hahahaha

Sacto Joe   October 1st, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Hey, Dems! Frack the Repubs if they want too much! It's their fracking mess in the first place!
