Palin: I'm a 'Joe-six pack American'

Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday.

Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday.

SEDONA, Arizona (CNN) - Sarah Palin on Tuesday called herself a “Joe-six pack American” and said that her family has lost $20,000 in the stock market because of the financial meltdown on Wall Street.

Palin made the comments in a radio interview with conservative talker Hugh Hewitt while taking a break from debate prep at John McCain’s ranch in Sedona.

“I know what Americans are going through there,” Palin said on the radio show. “And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit.

“I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are.’”

Earlier: Palin takes a dig at Biden's age?

Hewitt asked Palin her reaction to the “extreme hostility” that she has faced from liberals.

“Oh, I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that a normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it,” she said.

  2. Palin's Reality Check Has Bounced.

Joe Six Pack doesn't think that because he can see Mexico from his house that he's qualified to meet with foreign leaders.

Joe Six Pack doesn't think that because he just lost $20,000 on his 401K that he's qualified to run the economy.

Joe Six Pack could have done a better job of conducting an interview with Katie Couric.

In short, I know Joe Six Pack, I serve with Joe Six Pack, and Mrs. Palin, you are no Joe Six Pack.

  5. Joe No Six-Pack!

Palin is a normal "Joe six-pack"? Does that imply that she imbibes around the kids? Does she know what that means? Does any of us know what she is? Palin is "normal"? Ok – Why doesn't she release her financial records and we can estimate what affect the recent market swings might have had?

Wasn't George W. Bush elected because he was "Joe six-pack" that you wanted to have a barbeque and toss back a couple Budweisers with? Look what happened when we elected one of those...

CNN, could you please factcheck this and post the results in the ticker reallly soon!!!

"Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit."

I know this has to be the biggest lie. Everything that comes from the Republican ticket are lies. They don't think anybody will analyze what they say or seek the truth. I am sick of McCain and Palin.

Joe six-pack or Neck-bone Joe, no matter. She's more like
'Fast Talkin Fanny;' verbose sans substance. Palin's insular and xenophobic existence has kept her from the reality that there are many types of Americans from all strata; and she is out of touch with most of them. Someone should speak with here about the Inuit and other Native people. And the Hispanic issues, and education, the elderly, etc. Vacuousness is what will be found.

What a nut bag. People are reacting to her in a negative manner because she is stupid. Just when you think she can't get any dummer she opens her mouth again. She has ruined this for McCain. It looked like McCain wanted to smack her in the Couric interview, If he did He would of had my vote.

I have news for Sarah Palin–if she lost $20,000 in one week, her 401k is ginormous compared to most Americans' retirement annuities. This doesn't make her Jane 6 pack–it makes her Cindy McCain's BFF.

Did McCain hold your hand as you read those scripted comments? Or, did you use a life line?

Ugh! When she talks it sound like she drunk a 6-pack. I don't want joe 6-pack as my president or vice president. Gerorge W. was joe 12-pack and look where that got us.

Oh, please will the people support her get real. She's so unqualified it's scary. Yet again we'll be the laughing stock of the world if she's elected.

So Sarah we get that you think you are a "joe six pack", though it would be nice if you would release your tax returns.

However, Sarah people are not "ticked off" about you being an outsider and it isn't just liberals that are hostile but that you have shown no knowledge, intelligence, judgment or plans for America.

What you do offer are attacks, lies and sarcasm. Those are not CHARACTER traits of the "Average Joe sick pack!'

"Extreme hostility"? Do they honestly think when voters ask questions and she gives stupid answers that it's considered "extreme hostility"? The fact that she can't answer a simple question from Katie Couric or Charlie Gibson makes the media hostel? Please. You know what we're not used to? Having someone on a VP ticket that doesn't know squat about what's going on in the world. I don't want a "Joe six-pack American" leading the strongest nation in the world – I want someone who actually knows a little about world and economic issues. What a joke.

  21. Big D

Seriously – don't we deserve better? Don't we as a country deserve a better VP candidate – who really actually could be a heartbeat away from being President?
How could McCain pick a VP candidate without vetting her? How could he think it was appropriate to pick someone who wasn't quite up to the task? This is not 'country first'. This is not integrity. This is not how a leader makes a critical choice. We deserve better – and McCain has poor judgement.

No one running for political office is a Joe Six Pack. The average Joe wouldn't run for political office. And you have to have some money to run for office. The average Joe is more concerned about paying their bills right now than running for any office.

Sarah Palin claims to be a "normal Joe six-pack American," but in reality she is anything but. How many "normal Joe six-pack Americans" think the world is only 6,000 years old and that dinosaurs and people were around at the same time?

We like to think that folksiness masks a common genius, as if we're all Will Rogers or Columbo. But there are a lot of very strange and dangerous people out there, and each one is someone's next door neighbor.
