Palin: I'm a 'Joe-six pack American'

Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday.

Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday.

SEDONA, Arizona (CNN) - Sarah Palin on Tuesday called herself a “Joe-six pack American” and said that her family has lost $20,000 in the stock market because of the financial meltdown on Wall Street.

Palin made the comments in a radio interview with conservative talker Hugh Hewitt while taking a break from debate prep at John McCain’s ranch in Sedona.

“I know what Americans are going through there,” Palin said on the radio show. “And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit.

“I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are.’”

Earlier: Palin takes a dig at Biden's age?

Hewitt asked Palin her reaction to the “extreme hostility” that she has faced from liberals.

“Oh, I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that a normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it,” she said.

No. It is not only liberals but conservatives as well who realize that you are unqualified to be vp. Lets stop with the gender nonsense Palin should not receive special treatment because of her gender. Look at facts. If a vp candidate said that he/she had foregin policy experiance because she lives in close promimity to russia, most people will say that the individual is unqualified. Be realistic. Second, her sob story of being the average joe is funny considering that the republican party is not for the average american. Republicans want to give $300 billion dollars to the rich and coporations who created this economic mess. Taxing my healthcare is not helping the average american. It is helping big coporations. so spare me.

and it is just not the liberals who are worried ......
Geoge Wills is certainly not liberal . And many other conservatives are speaking out.
I really hope she will do well in the debate , just in case McCain wins , I will at least see light at the end of the tunnel,

yup, she is just like the rest of America – ignorant, uneducated, un-travelled and completely clueless that the rest of the world even exists, much less that most cultures are far richer and older than ours and deserve a degree of respect.

She has no understanding of how the economy works or why debt is bad. She has no comprehension of how the checks and balances of our government work or any actual knowledge of the LAW, especially not the complications of the constitutional law she would be at the head of.

And like most Americans she has no understanding of HISTORY, that pesky boring subject that could allow leaders to NOT repeat the mistakes of the past. Instead they keep doing the same failed thing over and over and the American people pay for it, because they keep thinking there was no way to know the consequences.

    Good for you.

Some of us would like something a little more than an "average Joe" in the White House.

To put it another way: "been there, done that."

  5. I Just Said Thanks, but No Thanks to Another 4 Years of g.o.p. corruption, arrogance and incompetence

No, Sarah, we are just not used to someone coming in from the outside who is completely unprepared to lead a nuclear armed United States in the 21st Century.

Normal Joe Six Pack to lead America? Thanks, but no thanks. The last Normal Joe Six Pack, I believe was/is George W. Bush. How did that go for you, America?

But we do appreciate the comic relief. Now please Sarah, please go back to Alaska, they need you, because Putin in watching.

Can we stop choosing people we see as "average Americans" for the most challenging position in the nation, the Presidency? Can we finally recognize Joe or Jill Six-Pack is NOT qualified to serve as executive of an entire nation? This time, can we elect somebody who is MUCH smarter than the average American??? Please?

Myself and most of the folks I know are a lot closer to being a "Joe six pack" than Palin is. I don't have 20k to invest in the market, let alone enough to lose that much.

  9. Another Republican voting for Obama/Biden

Is Palin preaching to the Christians with her Joe six-pack comment? The ones that broke the laws this weekend and preached to vote for McCain and Palin instead of preaching the Bible. Well, what do you think? Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"It’s time that a normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency"

No, it's not. We're fighting two wars, battling terrorism worldwide, and the economy is crumbling. Let Joe Six-Pack govern when he can just check on the country during commercials.

Seriously, we don't need a Joe six-pack American in the white house. We have had that for the past 8 years! Having someone in the White House you would like to have a beer with isn't a good idea. Having someone in the White House who is smart and articulate and surrounds themself with smart people is such a better idea,

The Palin loss of money does not make me feel any better that she understands what the problems are. Millions have lost money in their 401k and I still have not heard from McCain what he thinks or what he is doing NOW to solve the problem. Both he and Gov Palin are only trying to say "I told you so!" by bring up his attempts in the past to reign in Fanny and Freddie. It is obvious that his attempts in the past didn't work so what is he doing now to make sure it works this time.

It is another "I can see Russia" statement. Just because she lost money doesn't mean she understands how to fic the problem.

The last thing we need is a "normal Joe six-pack American" a heartbeat away from running this country. Now she is trying to identify with "regular" Americans. The condescension from the McCain/Palin camp is over the top. I don't want a regular American running this country, I want someone who is well above the norm in leadership and intelligence.

Yeah, Nixon thought Carswell should be consented to for the Supreme Court "Because mediorce people needed to be represented too" There were 8 other Justices...only one President and one Vice President...we can't afford "Joe six-pack's choice"

Like she really knows what we are going through...I wish I got paid by the state government to live in my house like she did....I don't think it's extreme hostility either, the fact of the matter is that the other three candidates have gone through this same process just over a longer period of time...with Palin everything is condensed because of the limited time that we have to find out what she stands for. I think they are just getting paranoid.

UR so right Sarah, we don't want a Joe Six pack running our country. We have enough sense to know that Joe Six pack does not belong in government. So she'll be throwing back a 6pack while dressing a moose and then she'll invade Pakistan bc we have to "get the bad guys", and then she'll take a drive on her Road to Nowhere. And she'll get back to us with what we need to do to fix the health care of the economy, and those kids in Africa and Asia, yeah ah we should help them too....Thanks but no thanks!
