Sen. Biden said he's 'feeling good' about Thursday night's debate.
Sen. Biden said he's 'feeling good' about Thursday night's debate.

WASHINGTON (CNN) –- Boarding the train home to Delaware Wednesday night after voting for the Senate bailout bill, Biden told reporters, “I’m feeling good” about Thursday night’s debate with Sarah Palin.

His campaign agrees. “He’s ready” said spokesman David Wade as Biden stepped out for lunch in at a local burger joint on Tuesday afternoon in Wilmington.

It was a rare admission of strength amid efforts by Biden advisers to raise expectations of Palin’s debating skills. On Sunday Wade called Palin an undefeated “leviathan of forensics.”

Watch: VP debate follies

After campaigning last weekend with Barack Obama, Biden cleared his schedule for debate prep. He spent the first two-and-a-half days of the week at a downtown Wilmington hotel, holed up with senior advisors and Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who played Palin in mock debates.

The campaign sealed off the second floor, converting the hotel’s gym into a debate prep room complete with a makeshift stage.

Wednesday afternoon, Biden called an end to debate prep, going home to see his family before taking the train to Washington to cast his vote in favor of the financial rescue package.

The Delaware senator flies to St. Louis Thursday afternoon for the eagerly-anticipated debate. He will be accompanied by his wife Jill, son Hunter, sister Valerie and niece (and campaign staffer) Missy Owens. Biden’s eldest son Beau will stay at home in Wilmington ahead of his deployment on Friday for a year-long tour in Iraq with the Delaware National Guard.

VP should be graded by how focused the candidates are on issues.
It will be bias to lower expectations for and raise for the other. In a typical exam (except one conducted by GOP) there is only one marking script for all cadidates (male and female alike). There should be only one for tonight's VP debate.

Even republicans are being outspoken regarding the mistake McCain has made in choosing this stooge.

I read just this morning that some members in the GOP say that after teh debate tonight the election will be over. They re terrified of letting her loose for 90 minutes on live television.

Sad day for the GOP!

Don't get cocky Joe.

You can win this if you don't underestimate Palin.

Treat her as if she was a legitimate canidate and you will do fine in the debates.

Go for it Joe! You're a good, intelligent man who deserves to hold the office of Vice President, and if, God forbid, anything happened to the President, you would be capable of stepping in and leading our country. We're cheering for you here in NE Pennsylvania!

And don't feel the need to cut Sarah any slack.....Remember, she's the Queen of Catty Remarks, so give her what she can't stand up to.....a good dose of your knowledge of world and domestic affairs. She has NONE and can't fight against that.

Forget Sara Palin, what is Katie Couric trying to prove, she of all people should know what it feels like to be picked on and not measure up...

I hate her tactics when it comes to Sarah, how quickly she forget that cbs wants her out.

Let Sarah speak freely and stop this prying, she knows Sararh is not schooled in law and politics so why is she trying to make her look bad. Talk about stuff we care about and how to fix everyday problems.

Leave Sarah Alone....................................................

Patrick Henry, Fort Myers   October 2nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

I'm still curious–how Joe Biden can be even considered an agent of change?

When I was in 11th grade–he was elected to the Senate.
He's been in the same job since.
What a conglomeration of changing values and viewpoints!! No wonder he's always sticking his foot in his mouth.

I think Palin will kick his butt.
She's younger than him and Obama–and there are a lot of Americans who look beyond her mis-speaks–and focus on her vision, values, as they are related to our country. And that vision and values set–matches up with a whole bunch of conservative thinking Americans.

I wouldn't count her out–until the bell rings.

Maggie   October 2nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

So do you think tonight we'll find out if Palin has any intelligence at all or if she'll be just as incoherent and clueless as she's been in the other interviews?

Heather   October 2nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

I'm very nervous for Joe. This debate will put a chess master against a three-year-old playing checkers.

Wise White Guy   October 2nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

Rose, Texas. Joe Biden is a great man and he would be a fine President if need be. I think everyone should have doubts not only about Palin but especially John McCain. The truth is that Barack is the one best equipped to be President as it is his plan, his philosophies, his tactics, his belief in the people making this change, his intelligent insight, his knowledge of history and his charisma, etc. These are the things that have been adopted not only by a better part of our nation but by almost the entire Democratic party. He is setting the tone for our future and i will not lose one minutes sleep if he is in charge of this country. If McCain wins I will have to make a choice. Either forget about having a good nights rest or figure out which other continent we can move to because we will likely be living in a crater by the time John is done with this great country.

Brian Rich   October 2nd, 2008 10:06 am ET

I am too, Joe!!! Just stay on the issues and don't let Palin drag the conversation through the personality contest mud. Leave her insults and snarky comments alone and just focus on what the Americans care about right now – the economy and how the War in Iraq and other Bush failures have contributed to it's problems.

Joe, be very careful. No matter what you do, the Reublicans have already got an e-mail ready saying Palin won. Last week they accidently sent one saying McCain won hours before the debate happened. All they will do this week is pick up one or two out-of-context snippets of you and claim you are sexist and abusing poor lost Sarah and that she always took the high road.

The truth, to the Republicans, is a fluid thing. Hard to grasp, impossible to hold and missing entirely from their campaign ads. Sort of like the issues.

Well considering that the moderator, Gwen Iffel is in the tank for Obama what do you expect this debate to be like?

If I were Gov. Palin, I'd go onstage, make a statement about Gwen Iffel's financial interest in the outcome of the election and ask her to recuse herself. If Iffel won't leave, I'd walk off and demand a moderator that can at least pretend to be neutral.

Good to see what the liberal paid bloggers talking points are for today. bash palin, acuse everyone of lying, make fun of Palin for not knowing all of the supreme court rulings, even though we all know that neither could Biden. Ol' Joe would just reminice about him and his dad watching supreme court news on C-SPAN back in the 30's... again.

Joe   October 2nd, 2008 10:03 am ET

The difference is that politicians do not answer questions they go on rants abot whatever they feel like. Sarah Palin actually tries to answer direct questions. I would love to see someone finally give Obama a tough interview instead everything the media does with him is with soft gloves and praise. I can't wait to see more Biden gaffes tonight and then watch the liberal media put a positive spin on it.

Why doesn't SNL cover the Biden gaffes like the Roosevelt/TV debacle – that is funny stuff but god forbid they do anything to hurt the Democrats.

When McCain choose Palin for VP it was "shock and awe." Now it
it is total "shock". This rambling lady, avoiding straight, direct
answers to questions, reveals her lack of knowledge and experience
and does not qualify for this important office. The manner in which
she expresses herself is "hair raising." She is very devious, side-
tracking, and uses "charm" to cover up for her lack of real experience.
She has no lack of experience in "bluffing." McCain has no chance
with this lady. Good for us Obama supporters.

Olivia   October 2nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

I predict Biden won't hold back anything in the debate with Palin.
His well known brand of sarcasm will be very evident to make her look unworthy.

Biden will act presidential, conveniently forgeting he is up for the vp slot, and that he was rejected by the people during the presidential primarys. Don't care for the man....too in your face and a talker.

I notice that Katie Couric is being credited for the "gotcha" of Palin, and Jack Cafferty......well, everyone knows about cafferty.

TKW- New Mexico   October 2nd, 2008 9:59 am ET

Palin is going to show the mean, vindictive side that lurks below the exterior when she gets hammered and stammers her way through this debate. Have we not had enough of ugly politicians with Bush? John McCain has shown that desperate, mean, ugly spirit as of late too...

Tanya, Madison, WI   October 2nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

McCain vote on bailout bill = YES!
Obama vote on bailout bill = YES!
Biden vote on bailout bill = YES!

Why not? Bush cried "wolf", and they all went running. So try this one on for size:

In 2010 and 2011, Alt-A morgages will reset. The estimated exposure from these mortgages is $1 Trillion! The current subprime mess came in around $850 Billion. So what? Another bailout down the road? This isn't "Change" and it isn't "Reform".

This is madness. Demand something different from your Representative while you still have time. They are the closest to the voter and might just listen.

Donkey Party   October 2nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

The world will be watching, and laughing right along with the rest of us at Palin, the lamest and most dangerous selection for VP ever. Actually, I sort of feel sorry for her, because after McCain is done using her, and after his landslide loss in Novemeber, she'll have little, if anything, to return to in Alaska.

Amber in AZ   October 2nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

We should expect the same from both of them.....the best they have to offer the nation. I expect that she will get up there and dance around the facts and use lots of snarky remarks because that's what she does best. Joe just has to go out there and be himself. His interviews with Couric were great and he seemed genuine. He doesn't need to worry about her and just focus on his answers and supporting Obama. Show the country what two capable leaders and Obama/Biden administration will be. As it has always been, you barely need to attack because the McCain/Palin ticket has been shooting themselves in the foot from day one.

Bring it home Joe.
I'm rooting for you.

Obama/Biden 08

Wise White Guy   October 2nd, 2008 9:57 am ET

Leapfrog, great analysis. Ralph, I also agree with you. I was going to type up my opinion but you guys nailed it. The real question is whether people are going to continue to fall for the same old type of politics the Republicans have been selling to us for a very long time. Will the false attack ads work for McSame? Will Pagin's regurge attacks work for her or against her because we know she cannot learn basically everything about this country and world in a few months. I have personally seen enough already of John and his flip flopping, selling out on honesty with his ridiculous ads, and Palin's floundering on questions that could be answered by most middle school kids. A push at this debate would be fine with me. Joe, do just what Barack did in his debate. Stay calm, respond with facts and let her hang herself. To my suprise after Barack's debate the public actually saw through John's tactics and thought Barack won the debate. I never personally never had enough faith in the people as Barack has all along and that is why he is a great leader and i am typing on here. I would like to personally thank Barack, Michelle, and everyone else who has believed in this change and worked for it to happen. I have been inspired to help out our local campaign and we need to keep driving until this is DONE no matter what the polls say.

haitianfemalefor BO   October 2nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

Angelo   October 2nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

The problem is that the people who will be asking questions tonight may not be as persistant as Katie Couric.

On every question, Sarah NoAnswer Palin, tried to squirm out of answering the questions she did not know. Couric continued asking for specifics.

Will this type of questioning happen tonight?

The Light   October 2nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

McCain is an idiot! Can you believe he said this, and I quote, "She's had more experience in leadership than Senator Obama and Senator Biden put together."

So I guess 36 years in the Senate all the while having one of the lowest net worths in office isn't nothing spectacular. I'm 100 percent positive that Biden has had to deal with far greater issues than Palin. Joe Biden has more experience than McCain in the Senate. McCain's military experience consists of him being imprisoned only to move up the ranks because his daddy was an Admiral. And we all know that in McPalin's eyes, being a community organizer in one of the most crime infested, impoverished neighboorhoods in the United States is simply a joke. They are wretched human beings. The fact that they have shown ULTIMATE DISRESPECT to Barack Obama and Joe Biden while Obama and Biden have been completely courteous to them and their families. I really hope they lose bad or god help us all!

Jack   October 2nd, 2008 9:55 am ET

some people believe that Biden should go easy on Palin, well they forgot that she called herself a pitbull with lipstick. You don't play around with pitbulls, you do not handle them with a silk glove. You handle them with an iron fist and smack them down hard. They are very tenacious beast.

May Biden stick it to her hard and make her cry. may Biden make her regret the day that she accepted the nomination.

Good luck to Beau also – he is in our prayers.

Jim   October 2nd, 2008 9:51 am ET

Granted, Palin’s response to Couric’s foreign policy question was downright stupid. She could’ve answered, “What was Obama’s foreign policy experience before he started campaigning for President?” Maybe because HIS response to that question during the primaries was that he took “international relations” in school. So he majored in it. Wow. Yeah, that’s enough experience for a guy running for the #1 spot, but of course, the MSM doesn’t challenge him on it. Instead of focusing on a potential VP with limited experience, the media should be focused on the potential President with limited experience. As for Biden, let’s see: He plagiarized a British politician’s speech, which sunk his other presidential bid; he said his helicopter was “forced down” in near Pakistan, implying it was terrorists, when in actuality it was the weather; and claimed he was “shot at” when visiting Iraq – again proven to be bull. There’s a host of other misrepresentations, but of course, MSM ignores it all. And BTW, why is CNN’s Ticker always about something negative towards the McCain ticket. Yeah, no bias there.

It's is too unfortunate that Republicans know how to play the uneducated, poor and "maxed-out-moms" (Times) who are the majority of swing voters both parties need to win. What is even more unfortunate that the very same voters are the ones who will suffer from the consequences of Republican policies the most. And it's pure evil that the true elites of this country (mostly republicans with legacies and inherited wealth, in my opinion) would use God's name for their cause. It's a small relief that my family falls into socioeconomic/ religious bracket that breaths and benefits from everything Republican. But this election scares every last ember left in Hell out of me for I got kids and their future to worry about. Mr. Biden, please put Palin parade to rest tonight.

Good luck Joe! John McCain's interview on CNN and MSNBC this morning showed how non-presidential he and his running mate really is, he should also try answering the questions which are asked of him!

ann   October 2nd, 2008 9:49 am ET

did mc-cain choose her because of enhanced usage of words, or because he 'THOUGHT' that she was hot? but now that things are going down hill for her. i dont know what to say about her but she does look good "on some days". oh to add look up 'make mccain exciting on youtube. very funny

bigbubba   October 2nd, 2008 9:49 am ET

This should be like taking a pistol to a wreatling match. Unless Palin has been sandbagging with her interviews so far she should have no chance against Biden. It is hard to believe that anyone would appear that stupid, that long, just to appear better at the debate.

Actually, I may be harsh. The McCain camp may trying to fill a head with 30 years of knowlege in a few weeks and just overloaded the little fluff head.

After all, the most she has ever had to worry about is a state the size of a medium large city. Before that her biggest worries were how to look good in a tiara, how to look good as a talking head on TV and how to run a city that had less people that my old high school.

patriot   October 2nd, 2008 9:48 am ET

all I know for sure is I don't vote for muslims. So all you libs out there are leading us straight to Obama Osamas people.

Palin will crush this idiot. I bet Palin could even beat this guy in a fight. Libs are such wimps.

Deb   October 2nd, 2008 9:48 am ET

Tonight, you will see the same Sarah Palin because this is simply who she is. If you are incoherent, you are incoherent. This woman's brain cannot interpret the questions she is ask let alone try to answer what she hears. This is confusing for some, however I bet psychologist understands exactly what her problem is. She has deficiencies and they are mental. She can read off of tele-prompters and that's is what has been making her look good, that alone.

Carlos   October 2nd, 2008 9:48 am ET

Just be careful Joe, it is possible that Palin have been playing dumb to low expectations of her performance.

Kim   October 2nd, 2008 9:48 am ET

As we speak both parties are drafting their "we clearly won the debate" press releases. Palin will come out swinging against Obama, full of zingers and quips and her "I'm ready I'm ready" fodder while trying to look like Ms. EveryMom. However, Obama is way out of her league insofar as experience, temperment etc. so all she can do is regurgitate her usual silly responses. She has no argument against him. And the "maverick" comments..... please. I can't believe all this "debate prep" has taught her anything substantial. Joe is put in the delicate position of not being too condescending or appearing to bully the female. But I predict he will come off calm, statesman-like, and experienced...which he is! I'm hoping he nails her hide to the wall. Too bad Gwen Ifill will not be able to get any direct answers from Palin about her vast foreign policy experience, her grasp of Supreme Court cases, Troopergate......need I go on? FYI I wonder if the Republicans are spending $5,000 for a makeup artist for her like they did for McSame. Go O and JOE!

anonmous   October 2nd, 2008 9:48 am ET

Lara   October 2nd, 2008 9:48 am ET

If I was Biden and the Democrate campaign, I would be very careful because we all know the GOP are not trust worthy and will pull anything to decrease Senator Obama's lead. Good luck and just keep your mind on the questions and answers on the issues only!

RYAN kr Jr   October 2nd, 2008 9:47 am ET

Sarah Palin is clueless and dumb. She is not even qualify to be a Governor in my own view. Tonight, i will turn my tv off.

Jo Anne   October 2nd, 2008 9:47 am ET

How dumb is Palin that she could not name wht she reads? Newweek is one that she could have named. And the people want her to be our Vice Pres. Thank Katie for a job well done help the America people know that palin does not know.

Obama/Biden, More than ever!   October 2nd, 2008 9:46 am ET

Bill Clinton made the excellent point of the strengths, leadership and experience of Joe Biden. Bill stated that the next President will be so involved in getting the economy back in shape we will need a STRONG VP to cover. The VP will need strong on foreign policy experience and who can run the country and take care of the other important issues facing our country while our President concentrates of Economic issues.

Palin is not ready to lead on day one!

One more reason why I am voting Obama/Biden '08

SCOTT L,run along little boy,I think I hear your mother calling.

Douglas   October 2nd, 2008 9:45 am ET

I pray Joe has lot of good points unlike Palin because she has no qualified before she never join in military before. She just listen what they talked about it. Joe had been served and know entire his life and ready to answer for debate. Horrary

Please...please..please   October 2nd, 2008 9:45 am ET

Biden on behalf of every Democrat that will be watching tonight, please..please..please don't screw this UP! Don't give the RE-SUGS the satisfaction!!!

Raleigh, NC   October 2nd, 2008 9:45 am ET

It's going to ver very difficult to listen to Palin. She never completes a sentence....she rattles on and on and on and rarely makes any sense!
Biden, on the otther hand is thoughtful and very knowlegeable of the issues. I'm looking forward to listening to him.

Jay   October 2nd, 2008 9:44 am ET

Throw her under a bus and put the last nail in their coffin for their joke of a campaign!

Tina B   October 2nd, 2008 9:44 am ET

I wonder how many English teachers and professors will still vote for McCain/Palin after she desecrates the language today!

Phoenix   October 2nd, 2008 9:44 am ET

I am sad for Gov. Palin, but not for the reasons people would think. Yet again, we have a woman running who not only lacks qualifications, but she is simply not an intellectual. The Republican pundits say that she should try infusing alot of personal stories into the debate in order to shift from the ISSUES. What? Republicans continue to scream, "Oh, she's so smart." Is this what my party has come to, a bunch of anti-intellectuals who only champion ignorance?

Tired Republican for Obama

Tek   October 2nd, 2008 9:43 am ET

It's sad that he can't be his normal self because he is debating a woman. This is a double standard in politics. He can't be overly aggressive because he will look condescending is full of crap. What's wrong with pummeling your opponent? What's wrong with someone showing your intelligence and at the same time showing that your opponent is ignorant and clearly unqualified? No one is disputing that Sarah Palin is a joe six-pack kind of person but we are talking about the vice president of the United States here. This isn't a city council election. America's future is at stake. The fact that someone who is so unqualified to be vice president is truly disgusting.

Rick   October 2nd, 2008 9:43 am ET

Anything less than a clear victory for Biden would be a total failure on hs part.

KIM, RICHMOND,VA   October 2nd, 2008 9:43 am ET

Please allow Palin to hang herself. Be firm but patient. She will hang herself. The only way she will be excused tonight is if she dye her hair blonde and admit that she is as bright as the light in a refridgerator.

Another grumpy old white woman for Obama   October 2nd, 2008 9:43 am ET

Even if she has her lines down pat, bear in mind these are not her words. She is only a parrot. McCains camp changed this from a real debate to a question/ answer format and she is probably wearing an earpiece so her handlers can feed her answers.
Remember: You cannot believe anything she says. She is a Republican after all.

Tommy Akin   October 2nd, 2008 9:43 am ET

Okay, why is it that every time a male politician wants to impress the public that they are a hard worker, they roll up their sleeves and loosen their tie? I don't care who it is, it's phony baloney! Since when is shooting off your mouth such hard work?

djak   October 2nd, 2008 9:43 am ET

I agree with Gerald. They've been making Palin look like a moron on purpose so Biden's guard will be down for the debate. Expect some sneaky tactics out of the Repub camp.

SPH   October 2nd, 2008 9:42 am ET

If this were a job interview for an important position in a corporation or university, Palin would not even be considered. Her knowledge is so lacking and her wording so poor that she makes George W. look bright and articulate by comparison. I shudder to think that millions of people actually believe she should be vice-president of the United States! I guess this is a pitfall of American democracy. It often rewards those most adept and playing nasty political games and leaves the thoughful and intelligent candidates out in the cold .

Thank goodness for term limits!

Jen, California   October 2nd, 2008 9:42 am ET

I just keep asking myself: Whom would I rather see in my living room the next four years - Sarah Palin or Michelle Obama?

biden has the experience, knowledge, has been to Iraq and other places,

Palin has ZERO NO EXPERIENCE HOW CAN SHE BE THE VP

HOW CAN YOU STUDY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND KNOW ALL POLICIES WHAT A JOKE

NMC   October 2nd, 2008 9:42 am ET

Biden says that he is really ready to debate against palin. But is he really people are going to think that she has a better chance of winning people over on what she going to say because she is going to sound very intelligent. Everybody already knows that palin is going to talk alot about obama an biden.Biden an Palin are going at each other like they are running to be president.Hope that biden is training for this debate like he say he is.

Mel   October 2nd, 2008 9:41 am ET

GO JOE!!!! We'll all be proud and reenergized after this widely watched debate is over!

Scott NYC Independent   October 2nd, 2008 9:41 am ET

Just answer your questions in str8 direct manner and make them as short as possible. Don't attack, even though it will be difficult. Let her talk and reveal herself to be an empty shell with no substance. A review of Palin's past debate makes one thing perfectly clear. She can't give you facts and she is evasive in a general way. Let her hang herself.

MJ Ft. Campbell, KY   October 2nd, 2008 9:41 am ET

Come on Joe! We love you, you're our Honest to God, Regular Joe Sixpack!!!! You're the one who has kept it real all these years, traveling back and forth by train to D.C., and never getting rich off of ties to lobbyists! On top of all of that, you know what you're talking about! Which VP candidate is qualified to be President? Definitely NOT Sarah Palin.

sandy   October 2nd, 2008 9:41 am ET

I think if Biden just sticks to the issues and points out McCains faults he will be okay. He doesn't need to brow beat Palin, the best thing to do is just let her do it to her self. I think that it is what the McCain side is hoping he will do so they can call feminist. Or if the debate doesn,t go their way they will blame it on the narrator. Just keep your cool, and answer quick without going into long explanations, and you will do just fine.

NotTheOne   October 2nd, 2008 9:41 am ET

Everybody know that Biden knows alot of dirt on McCain then Palin knows on Obama . Some of us is hoping that he doesnt let out any info. or flaws on McCain . But everybody have dfferent predictions on biden and obama, we should all watch out for the Repulicans because they may something up there sleeve.

MLG   October 2nd, 2008 9:40 am ET

I'm glad Joe is up to the task. By the way CNN covered the upcoming debate last night, you would think he was the underdog. Seriously, they were touting Palin as the debate expert and saying Biden was the gaff king. It was comical to me, considering I watched Biden debate in the primaries and thought he did great!

Good luck, Joe!

Deb n Texas   October 2nd, 2008 9:40 am ET

Go Biden! We are very proud of YOU!

Sarah   October 2nd, 2008 9:39 am ET

No matter how this debate turns out, people still call Sarah Palin dumb or inexperienced and Joe as a winner. That's how people did last time for Presidential debate.

No matter how this campaign goes through, Obama will win not because of his ability to become a president, but because of terrible economy and Bush's failed adiministration.

The only thing we will watch from now on is how this black Amercian guy will do well as people expect him to do well in the next 4 years.

lyn   October 2nd, 2008 9:39 am ET

And Biden should feel good. I remember him in the primaries. I thought to myself I kinda like this guy he knows his stuff. Take it from me a woman Joe if she steps on that stage punch her debating lights out!!!

Palin is not ready for this stage. Someone made the comment about Barack being ask about different court cases. HELLO- he has a Harvard degree and a degree from Columbia; he also has taught at a law school. If you had read the Audacity of Hope you would know that he knows this countries history inside and out.

Palin will be good for soundbites but probably short on actual substance tonight. The stupid answers she gave in interviews could be a ploy so Biden needs to be careful that he doesn't misspeak. She will jump on that.

REDNECKS LOVE OBAMA   October 2nd, 2008 9:36 am ET

Palin is NOT interested in the WORLD..... she is only interested in her state. The problem is NOT Palin.... the PROBLEM IS JOHN MCCAIN'S JUDGEMENT.... he is W-I-L-L-I-N-G to DESTROY Palin, and our GREAT country, so he can win.

Ok joe, if your so dam good why is the head of the ticket so inexperienced that he had to get someone for the white vote. Second, your covered with pork as Obama is with his fannie and freddie Liberals. third, Hillary Clinton, would have united the party Obama has put so many breaks in this party, once people realize Obama, is all show and no delivery by 2010, what will be his appeal. His platform is for when there is a PEACE DIVIDEND, and the Iraq money is owed not cash on hand. We can not afford the perks he is promising and he and you KNOW IT. Therefore why would I waste my vote on him or you.

2012 ;-) Clinton the real right choice.

Joe, you will be facing an arrogant bully tonight.

She will be a foot-stomping, vindictive, accusatory mean girl--going for the one-liners and the zingers instead of any substantive responses.

She will jab and attack and sneer and then DARE anyone to correct her bad manners-much like a spoiled child who is used to getting her way.

Keep focused--she is not important. Many many Americans stand behind you, tonight and in November. Good luck!

Paying Attention   October 2nd, 2008 9:34 am ET

Best wishes Joe!

I would also like to thank Katie Couric for flushing out the truth. You have a new viewer.

I would like to remind everyone that Palin received per diem for working at her house, charged rape victums for their rape kits, and gave $150 each to kill wolves and bring front paws back as proof.

She obviously doesn't want to waste taxpayer money, supports womens rights, and loves animals. (NOT !!!!!!)

Go Joe !!!!

Am I missing something, or is this the same old game of lowering expectations that we witnessed with G.W. Bush. Everyone is now convinced that Palin will be a fool this evening, and should she even come close to holding her own, she will rocket in the polls. I think this is much more calculated than we know

I don't have much to say about him. I dont really care for either of the vice presidents. However, he seems to be more knowledged on the economy and issues. He doesnt just try to use his looks as a way to get around and put a name for himself. Hopefully he'll be any good at his job. God knows we need someone to help this crazy, screwed up world.

TAYO, NY   October 2nd, 2008 9:33 am ET

Yes we can.

Biden should just be Biden but he should try not to talk too much as this often leads to gaffes in the past.

As for Palin, the situation will take care of itself..............craming all the answer and regurgitating same will not work.

Period!

EBC, Boyds, MD   October 2nd, 2008 9:33 am ET

THANK YOU Gov. Sarah Palin, you are truly a GIFT that just keeps on giving to the Obama-Biden camp. Keep up the good work!!!

You should Joe, considering the galactic idiot you are debating tonight.

Frustrated GOP Voter   October 2nd, 2008 9:33 am ET

I have been becoming more Frustrated with Sarah Palin and John McCain. The both of them are conducting this campaign like it is a circus. Thise two had better get their acts together I am at my wits end. I don't want to vote for Obama and Joe Biden, but each and every day they are looking more impressive to me. One more screw up from Sarah Palin, I WILL GLADLY cast my vote for Joe Biden.

Bruce   October 2nd, 2008 9:33 am ET

Joe, keep focused on the issues. Try to prevent Palin from using her one liners to answer questions. Try not to laugh when she answers a question like she did on CBS. Keep your COOL and show how a real VP should act in public.

irony   October 2nd, 2008 9:32 am ET

"We won't appoint liberal judges who legislate from the bench." Surely by now, palin's handlers have told her the republican talking point when questioned about anything regarding the law. She has no depth of understanding and seems to be completely shallow on every major issue. I expect we will see and hear many talking points from her tonight.

Cynthia   October 2nd, 2008 9:32 am ET

Senator McCain has shown time and time again that he uses poor judgment. Tonight will show it to the American voters – you can cram things but I'm sure some will get jumbled up in her head, This country could begin a turnaround with the right people in the White House and I know it is not McCain/Palin.

Go, Joe!   October 2nd, 2008 9:31 am ET

"Leapfrog", you've nailed it.
'Me thinks your predictions are "on the money".

Nonetheless, GO, JOE!

We hope Biden will just stick to the facts, and try to find the balance between a forceful and convincing debate and letting Caribou Barbie cook her own moose, as she is guaranteed to do.
Now is Biden's big chance to show the American people why he and Obama are the best choice for America.

I hope McFailin gets patted down for "bugs" beforehand - since she clearly can't manage a coherent sentence, let alone a conversation, on her own, we can expect the Rove-ians will be spoon-feeding her tripe in real time.

CNN, you've been rejecting my comments lately. Please post this one, for a change!

I am very young and don't really understand every political issue, but from the debates that I have watched and the issues I have heard, I do believe that Biden is the best candidate for VP. I believe that Obama made a great decision about running with Biden. I think that Obama has many qualities that Biden doesn't have and Biden has qualities that Obama doesn't have. I think that together, they will be able to run this Country. Biden is a great debator and is ready for everything that Palin will throw at him.

Biden will crush Palin in any debate. He should not take it easy on her in any way. She is a female version of George W. Bush which means she should go down easy. The voters should also ask themselves if they want another Bush that close to office. Biden is one of the few people who can help this country.

I am sure that Bidens lifetime job in politics gives him a advantage over Palin. We need someone that is new and not corrupt in our Goverment. The years of experience that all these self serving Senators and Congressmen have, has made them a fine living and the rest of us hard working Americans struggling just to survive. They get us fired up to put them back in their Castles to live out life like Royality. They need to do a good job for America or be voted out after a first bad term of lazy, do nothing but act like a celebrity job. A little probing would show how wealthy they all are, the winter and summer homes, ranches, boats and planes. McCain isn't the only one with unbelieveable material wealth that the rest of us can only admire and never aquire unless we go into politics. Vote like your life depends on it because it does.

The majority of Americans still aren't ready for a black man to be president or democrat politics. The polls are wrong. When people get behind the curtain you'll see that there is stiil alot more racism going on in this country than people will admit.
There is still alot of people that want him to loose so Hillary can run in 2012. Most of these people will vote McCain but tell everyone they voted Obama. Just like the Clintons.

Billy Jones   October 2nd, 2008 9:27 am ET

Due to fact that Palin has difficulties naming a court case that she disagrees with. She has many misleading statements . People have alot of things to say about Palin but she might just come out swinging against obama and biden, but from what i hear she really out of order.

Sofa King Ray Todd Ed   October 2nd, 2008 9:27 am ET

You know sometimes when you debate an idiot, the viewer has a hard time distinguishing which is which. Don't get overconfident Joe. Just play your solid A game and let her hang herself.

Nervous in Texas   October 2nd, 2008 9:27 am ET

I'm still nervous here in TX. What if she pulls the ultimate rabbit act, but I'm guessing that it will be OK bc there's been too many flobs already that even if she has a good debate Americans will see right through the act that she did get well coached. I hope Joe stays poised and take some jabs at her and really sticks it to McCain. I'm sick of all their lies and unwilling to face their lies. But even if Biden comes out winning, I hope voters don't take their foot off the pedal. I hope that it will all carry into the voting booth. Just bc we may have the lead in the poll, it doesn't mean anything if all those polled does not show up to vote.

Mimi   October 2nd, 2008 9:27 am ET

I like how Biden is such a strong family man. He also wrote the Violence against Woman Act which tells us that he also has respect for women. He believes that women should not be left alone beaten and alone. I agree that women everywhere should have the right to take their abuser to court and file against them. Something about Sarah Palin's arguments, on the other hand, doesn't seem right.

BT in Ohio   October 2nd, 2008 9:26 am ET

You go Joe! Not that you will have to do much. We have already made up our mind to vote Obama/Biden this year and no matter what happens tonight – we will still vote Obama/Biden. John McCain has already shown what poor judgement he has by picking Palin as his running mate. Enough said!

Its funny how she can't rename the court case and she is trying to be vice president for the USA. I mean she is ok but she need's some smarts on things like that. Im for obama and joe, they got the smarts.I get a good vibe about joe but the worst about her. She makes no sense to me when I read about her and hear her, She needs to get real and get with it if she wants to win.

AZVoter   October 2nd, 2008 9:26 am ET

I hope Biden is ready; I'm confident he'll win, but he needs to be on guard.

If Palin is as dumb as she seems to be in recent interviews, it will be a walk in the park, but the republicans could be sandbagging us all, making her look that way to make Biden overconfident.

I mean, come on; she can't REALLY be as dumb as she looks, can she?

hmm, well i'm rooting for Biden on this one. Its great that he seems pumped up for this debate. It shows his excitiment and thats refreshing. Palin on the other hand, well the best of luck to you to. I cant wait to see how this debate turns out.

Biden, psssst...FDR wasn't president and television wasn't available during the Great Depression. Democrats want you to seem smart dispite all available evidence, so don't say anything stupid tonight. But I know you will not disapoint those of us who know you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Palin is the Real Hillary   October 2nd, 2008 9:25 am ET

It is sooo unfair how that Katie Couric attacked Sarah with insane questions that nobody could answer. This is another attack on her. she is hte new Hillary probably even better if I could say that, she has won over me and many staunch traditionalists who are proud of her long standing traditions.

its me   October 2nd, 2008 9:24 am ET

Biden's getting prepared for Palin which is a good thing. He says he's ready to go at it.Hey,like people say, practice make perfect. He had a 3 days of prep week.I hope Palin's getting ready.

nancy   October 2nd, 2008 9:24 am ET

Better bring a tube of lipstick with you tonight sarah. You will be licking your lips a lot trying desperately to come up with an intelligent answer to all the questions that a VP should know the answers to. Joe, we have all the confidence in the world in you to do the right thing. There are advantages to having at least a spoonful of experience.

GO Joe

Krew   October 2nd, 2008 9:24 am ET

Joe Biden will have to come out victorious. I predict that Palin will try hard and attack Biden and Obama together because that is what she was told to do. It seems that she is not very good on her own and so he will have to come back strong. He will deffinetly have to make his statements percise so that Palin won't know what he is saying. There is a potential for her to be confused and mess up. Biden can and will win this debate if he keeps his head straight. It is unfortunate that the debate is on the night before his son is leaving to Iraq. Hopefully, he can keep that off his mind and keep America on it. Go Biden!

S. Boatman Warrensburg, Mo.   October 2nd, 2008 9:24 am ET

The Debate Should Be Very Interesting! I Think Joe Will Win Because He Is Just Smarter Than Palin!

J J   October 2nd, 2008 9:24 am ET

I am still trying to figure out why all of a sudden everyone thinks Biden is so great. If he is everything that people are making him out to be why has he never been successful running for president.

Gucci   October 2nd, 2008 9:24 am ET

Sounds to me like ms. sarah does't know what she's talking about! If our country's vice president is elected based off of looks and not the welfare of our country, we will stay "down hill" as we have for the LAST EIGHT years! think before you speak and in that thinking process you should think about things you actually know about! be prepared for any questions directed to you because as a candidate for vice president you might have to answer some!

JO   October 2nd, 2008 9:23 am ET

I'm not into the political thing as much but for what I know Palin should be fearful. As much as I have seen and heard she shouldn't at all be a candidate for VP. She is as much worthy as George Bush was and we see how our country went down. Palin is not the best in my eyes. No disrespect Republlicans but it's time our country got back on its feet.

Shakoya Williams   October 2nd, 2008 9:23 am ET

I think that its good that they are challenging her, it will probably make her a stronger canidate. Other than that I think that he and Obama would make a good team. What I think about her is that she should know and have everything together that she is going to say so that way she want go on television looking stupid. When she is asked a question she should stop trynig to avoid the questions.

Tom Eyemdaman   October 2nd, 2008 9:22 am ET

I really don't know much about Biden, but from the little bit i know i think he is bette for the VP. Being on the same side as Obama i think this team could go far. Unlike Palin i haven't been hearing much negative comments about him. Palin to me doesn't need to be in office period he does. He seems more reliable.

Post turtle: someone puts a turtle on a post, turtle is stuck up there for all to see, people wonder how the turtle got to the top of the post, what to do about it and wonder what idiot placed it up there.

pokadot   October 2nd, 2008 9:20 am ET

I realize that many people feel Palin is a great candidate for vice president. However, the only thing that seems to go for her in this is her looks. She may look beautiful and intelligent but wheres the knowledge. She does like to use big words when she speaks but maybe not in the best context of what she's really trying to say. When I listen to her speak sometimes, she doesnt seem too sure of what she's trying to tell the reporters and audiences. Palin just trys to bull crap all her answers. Maybe she should look more into the economy and world today than have McCain hold her hand the whole way.

JONNA   October 2nd, 2008 9:20 am ET

I thought Falin Palin was being prepped. You mean to tell me that they didn't review one Supreme Court Case? This is hard to believe.

I still envision her as sneaking up behind a President McCain, blowing up a paper bag and popping it "Kaboom!" behind his back. McCain falls to the floor. "Wow I'm President!"

I agree with you Gerald in Georgia –

I believe they have acting like a bimbo so everyone can believe she doesn't know anything; and tonight she will do just like she was in the debate when she ran for Governor. I don't trust her nor that sneaky old man mccain. Biden should keep his guard up at all times and just hit her with issues concerning the troubles we are facing. Also I would call her out on her Christianity since they have brought it to the fore front. I would call her out before all the American people and God; and ask her do you really believe that you can lead this great nation in the mist of a war and a troubled economy if needed be? Since they want to be so religious; can you lie to God like you are lying to the American people?

And to think she practiced all week to be stupid! She calls herself the "pit-bull with lipstick." I think she's more the chihuahua with hemorrhoids (especially since she only talks out of her butt)! We already know she can't be any more ambiguous with her answers, so no surprises there. But I'm just wondering which brand new $2,000.00 outfit she will be wearing for the occasion. I hope they have a cork-top stage so when she falls on her face she doesn't get hurt. She's probably happy there will only be one VP debate!

Joe Biden should be very careful because this Sarah Palin we see in the latest interviews is not the real Sarah Palin. She is saying stuff that the people can't understand and to tell the truth i dont think she knows what she is talking about she probly looked those words up in a dictionary and sayed those big words.

Raluca   October 2nd, 2008 9:17 am ET

Joe Biden is a very decent man and an encyclopaedia of world knowledge and experience. He may not have seen Putin rear his head above Alaska, but he has been at the negotiating table with Brezhnev and his prime-minister in the 80s. He's been a major player in the development of events in former Yugoslavia in the 90s. He's been to Iraq and Afghanistan numerous times in the 00s, not just for troop visits, but for some serious diplomacy with the leaders in the region. I simply can't see him lose this.

Go Joe!

CANCEL Tonight's Debate   October 2nd, 2008 9:17 am ET

I think that John McCain should cancel or reschedule tonight's VP debate until Sarah Palin is better prepared. This is only fair Joe Biden has been in the Senate for more than 26 years. It is not fair for Sarah Palin to endore some of the harsh questions that I know they will ask of her.

Slash   October 2nd, 2008 9:17 am ET

Biden will probably refrain from getting an instant KO even if (when) Palin opens herself up for one-like Obama, Biden has certain principles, and being an unsportsmanlike jerk isn't one of them (unlike a certain Republican in the Presidential debate). But Palin may very well put the KO in on herself, regardless of what Biden does.

As for me, I'd love to see her get thrashed tonight. I've been feeling mingled hatred and pity for her ever since McCain had the audacity to appoint her to running mate after all of his talk about experience.

Senator Biden: We are all rooting for you. My advice, always address her as "Governor Palin", laugh off the one-line zingers I'm sure the McBush people have had her memorize, as much as you can make her stick to the question rather than injecting her personal bias, and, above all else, don't lose your cool! You and Senator Obama are our last great hope. We need you to win this election for all our sakes.

All our thoughts and prayers are with you tonight as I know your son's deployment to Iraq is weighing heavy on your mind. But his future and all of our futures is so dependent on you and Senator Obama winning this election. God Bless You.

Even in last night's french debate, the entire group managed to sound like they knew what they were talking about (language skills notwithstanding). This debate will be closer than everyone thinks, Palin has been out of the limelight preparing for this event. People forget she is still a politican and one good enough to become a Governor. Granted I too think that she is pathetically unqualified for VP, but she will show up tonight, it's up to Joe to get her out of her Rove instructed answers, and to get her to reveal her real self, I bet the American public won't like what they see, at least if they are actually paying attention to what she is saying or more importantly what she isn't saying.

Let the show begin.... As proven with the Gibson/Couric interviews Palin doesn't have a clue about anything that relates to helping to run this country and scares the hell out of most of us. The woman doesn't read the newspaper for God's sake and couldn't even name one. Oh I'm sure they'll have her prepped to stay as far away from the issues as possible so not to show what a complete idiot she is, but in the end, the majority of Americans will see that it's obvious, Biden is by far the most experienced and intelligent VP choice and will feel confident and at ease that if something were to happen to Obama he would be the clear choice to run the country.. Now Palin on the other hand, OMG now that's scary. I don't have any respect for anyone who would vote in this nut job. I wouldn't want to live in the very dark place they do.

AngryCenter   October 2nd, 2008 9:10 am ET

I'm nervous – will the debate format allow Palin to get off scott-free, by spewing her talking points and avoiding any substantive discussion?

I hope not. America deserves better than to be lead by a self-proclaimed "Joe Six-Pack" who wears her ignorance as a badge of honor.

What's all this nonsense about Palin being stupid? Anyone who thinks that you can be elected governor of a state and not have something on the ball, is not that bright themselves. She's far from stupid. She's simply unqualified for the position she's applying for. Underestimating Palin would be the worst mistake Biden could make tonight.

Roger   October 2nd, 2008 9:09 am ET

There is a chinese saying that "you cannot win an argument against a fool, to do so you must be a greater fool". Going by this, Biden has some work cut out for him. For an intelligent person, acting foolish is quite an arduous task.

bobbi   October 2nd, 2008 9:09 am ET

let her know up front that looks have nothing to do with running a country, we need strength.

Darrell   October 2nd, 2008 9:08 am ET

If Biden is Biden he will do fine.If Palin is Palin well, she will look like Palin and that can only be good for Biden.I think it is important for Joe to just be Joe with a little restraint.Palin would have to have a grand slam for anyone to have a different opinion of her.Myself I will have to have the closed caption on when she speaks because it is impossible to listen to her voice very long.Palins lies from day one cannot be taken back and her outrageous opinions on her experience will nevr be turned around by this debate. She probably will do Ok but it will never change what has happened already or the facts.I am looking forward to what she has to say about the Alaskan pipeline because my family knows more about that then she ever will and she had little to do with it exept sign on the dotted line.As usual she has blown her experience way beyond what she actually had to do with this project that has been in the works for twenty some years.Having said that since her memory is so great that she remembers Bidens speeches from when she was two years old, maybe she remembers when this project really started.

Cuteness isn't what we need. No matter what happens tonight (with Palin and wrong or no answers) it is going to be the medias fault anyway.
Just another time when they can't take the blame themselves.
Republicans always blame, always the same.

We need OBAMA AND BIDEN. 2008

Greg   October 2nd, 2008 9:07 am ET

I'm sorry to say it, but I don't think Palin will fall on her face tonight. The way this debate is set up, Palin and Biden don't ever get to really mix it up.

It’s basically a "debate" in name only. It’s a chance for each side to give short stump speeches.

And since everyone seems to be easily distracted by small shinny objects, I'm sure everyone will say "what a good job Sarah did" and "She didn't make any mistakes" and blah blah blah. She's been rehearsing too long to screw up.

So unless American wakes up, they will still be enamored with the new kid in school and give her high marks when she probably won't deserve them

Break a Leg Joe Biden! I hope I am wrong about what I'm afraid will happen.

sharon from CT   October 2nd, 2008 9:07 am ET

good luck senator biden. you won't have any problem kicking her butt.

you will do a great job showing AMERICA and the world that you are so much more well qualified than her.

additionally,

she will bury herself.

GO BIDEN!

WI Cheesehead   October 2nd, 2008 9:07 am ET

We’ve all secured the debate for Palin to take by bringing the bar so low for her. All she needs to do is speak without smearing her lipstick and they’ll all say did very well. Remember the “ever low expectation” GWB who was asked “who’s the greatest philosopher that has influence him the most” and we all thought GWB will paint himself into a corner and he took off the muzzle on his mouth, greened and said “Jesus” and not a single person today can remember anything else that was said in that debate. Please don’t put it past Palin.

Jack Jodell, Minneapolis, MN   October 2nd, 2008 9:07 am ET

So Sarah Palin characterizes herself as "Joe-average-six-pack-American", huh? Sorry. Ms. Palin, like most of the McCain/Palin campaign pronouncements, that is just a load of distorted and incomplete spin. For Palin neglects to mention that HER six pack is "LIGHT", coming in at only 44 calories per can. Her way of trivializing foreign affairs, our government and all of the important issues facing it, as well as the very position of VP she hopes to win, is disgusting and an affront to every intelligent voter. Palin's devious method of ducking and twisting questions so she doesn't really have to answer them is infuriating and insulting. Her dishonesty and immaturity are disgraceful. Whenever she shrieks so childishly and animatedly, one almost expects to see her blow a big wad of bubblegum as she exclaims, Like, WOW – that's AWESOME!" This silly little teenager should give us all a big break and withdraw from the race at once! She should let a dignified and QUALIFIED woman like Elizabeth Dole or Kay Bailey-Hutchison – ANYBODY -take her place! So go ahead nd feel good, Mr. Biden. Unlike Palin, you ARE qualified and deserve to be up on stage tonight!

Bruce   October 2nd, 2008 9:07 am ET

Be careful Joe, there is a gotvha waiting to happen..stay ion topic and discuss McCain...do not get into a match with her...shut up and let her answer, the more time she has to say things the more she may mess up. Be aware that there will be attacks, smile and just let them roll off.
Stay on topic, do let her drag you into things, and mostly shut up after you ahve answered...keep the answers tot the piont. Discuss programs and plans that you and Obama have.
I just do not feel good about this debate with the way the Mccain campaign has been.i have a feeling it is going to be "I am new, i can learn, I an freash, i ahve run a state, ...keep it on sustance Joe...do let her drag you in...I saw part of her Alaska debate and that is what she did. Mostly be a gentleman..

I am hoping he does well enough to convince the independents. I think they may have managed to properly indoctrinate Palin and may even have given her a history lesson or 2 during this week to get her in formidable shape. They managed to get the response times reduced to her advantage cause I would have loved to see her try to expand and elaborate on issues..( cause it would have been the Thursday night preview of this week's SNL episode)

Alice Brinkley   October 2nd, 2008 9:06 am ET

Joe will drink himself into oblivion when he has to quit talking. Hope he stays quiet for this debate for his own good.

Poetic   October 2nd, 2008 9:06 am ET

I think it is unfair that Biden has to act "nice" to Palin just because she is a woman.. she said that she is a pittbul so lets treat her as such.

Christy CT   October 2nd, 2008 9:05 am ET

I agree with leapfrog. They've lowered the bar so low that this debate will be anti-climactic. And as soon as she looks like she's fumbling, McCain will cry foul and insist that the debate was sexist/racist from the start.
I think that the most ultimate display of sexism belongs to John McCain- hiding Palin, "shooshing " her, correcting her and exoecting everyone to hold to the "kid gloves" standard that he's set for her. If that's not sexist and patronizing, I don't know what is.

Lori from Delaware   October 2nd, 2008 9:05 am ET

Joe – we're so proud of you and we are behind you 100%. Don't hold back. Push Sarah and make her actually give answers to the question. Don't let her get away with talking in circles.

I think that Gwen Ifill should back out of the debate right now and take the Republican "the moderator was biased and that's why Sarah failed" argument away before they have the chance to use it.

Good luck Joe, we all want an invite to the Inauguration!!

I already feel ashamed to see a person like Sarah Piglin, who is clueless in a major American party's vice presidential spot.
Even the very few (probably half-brained) that support her can clearly realize what a clueless person she is – from her interviews.
This is not street politics my friends.. We are talking about the future of our country on the line here. Wake Up

As much as I think attention needs to be put on Palin who is in fact the subject at hand, I believe that the ultimate target is the top of the ticket.

When she starts rambling or something I think the criticism needs to be re-targeted at the top of the ticket if the implication is to be more effective.

I think Biden should be able to do it easily.

The repubs are on the rope!

TyWebb   October 2nd, 2008 9:03 am ET

Hey, "New Yorker" and "Scott L", you two need to get a room.

John in Ohio   October 2nd, 2008 9:02 am ET

I'd be feeling good as well. Palin's probably poorly memorized rote answers to likely questions, but once somebody asks for any more substance, she'll be lost. Somebody will say "Do you think puppies are good?" and she'll say "of course puppies are good, puppies are wonderful!" and then they'll follow up with "what is good and wonderful about puppies?" and she'll have no idea what to say.

If Failin Palin is the pit bull, Biden is the dogcatcher.

AJ   October 2nd, 2008 9:02 am ET

Senator Biden should be feeling good. Tonight he will be going up against a right wing looney toon who cant open her mouth without stupid falling out. What he should not be feeling good about is his hypocrasy in agreeing to be Obama's running mate. He said many times that Obama was not ready. Now he talks about Obama like a lovesick school girl. Obama is not ready and it is the nation that will suffer for it. He is sure to win this election and it will be a disaster.

Frank from Peterborough   October 2nd, 2008 9:02 am ET

Sending Joe Biden into a debate with Sara Palin is conducive to killing a fly with a shotgun and it's going to be messy. It will be interesting to see how the air heads CNN uses to promote the Republican Party spin this one and it will continue to show how little they care for the country compared to how much they care about the party.

Lu from Europe   October 2nd, 2008 9:02 am ET

If Palin ever comes over to the UK (should McCain be elected by the same dumbos who elected Bush), I hope she brings an English/English interpreter to help us understand her gibberish. Surely that's not too much to ask.

Can anyone explain to a simple foreigner what the GOP mean when they say Palin's 'Real'?

I also don't understand why Biden has to go easy on her. Crikey, were she a Brit politician, she'd be torn to pieces by the press and public, and it would be the same if she was a man. This whole easy on her approach is very sexist.

New Yorker – Biden is one of the most brutally honest candidates alive as well as Obama. Palin on the other hand as well as Mccain are proven pathological liars (have you been to factcheck.org at all???)
Biden, you truly don't have to say anything, all palin needs to do is open her mouth and we can see how clueless, woefully ignorant and unintelligent she is. And yes Katie does deserve a medal for listening though hours of vapidity, nothingness, blatent stupidity and not bursting out laughing.

AM from Eugene Oregon   October 2nd, 2008 9:00 am ET

Biden,
You are a good and decent man. It is your years of experience in Washington that gave me a chance to live. Thank you for legislating 'The violence against women' act. Your calling to washington so many years ago made it possible for me to be rescued from a home of violence. There are alot of wounds in America behind our closed doors and alot of women in pain. I appreciate that the average 'Joe' can really make a difference in this world. Good luck tonight, I will be cheering you on. It does not matter who your opponant is, you deserve to be where you are- it is the reward earned by a life long journey of hard knocks and overcoming difficulty, something I deeply share and I know so many others do in America. You ARE the American story, you are a woman's hero!!

Joe Biden is in a no-win situation. Even if he sticks to the issues, the GOP will cry foul and accuse Senator Biden of sexism. So he might as well just crush Princess Palin for the good of the country and educated women (and men) everywhere.

The McCain/Palin Campaign complaining about anything are like Nazi Collaborators or the SS concentration camp guards complaining about being 'mistreated' after Liberation.

leapfrog proves my point, character doesn't matter to liberals. And by the way, why would Gwenn Ifil be afraid of being labeled "biased"? If everybody doesn't already know that, they don't know how biased they themselves are. She looked sick when she was covering the Republican convention. She shouldn't be moderating the debate but it goes to show you the media's influence in politics. Wouldn't it be a bit more fair if the moderating was shared by a lib and conservative? Oh, I forgot, "fair" doesn't play into this scenario anymore than character. And this is why Palin is soooo much more refreshing than Biden; there are still people who value character.

Bulldog   October 2nd, 2008 8:50 am ET

Joe will do just fine.

Sarah on the other hand is still unknown. The McCain camp tried to paint the picture of Palin from the start as this "perfect" person who would swoop in and do wonderful things. However, as facts continue to come out on her and we hear her actually talk without a teleprompter we are repainting that picture of her. She is not the person the McCain camp tried to portray. She has 2 ethics investigations going on against her in Alaska, she received gifts from lobbyist and other special interest people, she charged per diem to stay in her own home, and just yesterday a new poll in Alaska shows her approval rating dropping by double digits. The McCain camp was successful at first of their portrayal but the media is doing there job to tell us the real story and the McCain camp is angry about it.

You deserve a better. Only in America will people vote for the less intelligent person (C and D average) and then you get surprise by their performance.

Wise up... The world need you to get it right this time.

Bama   October 2nd, 2008 8:49 am ET

Somebody should frisk Palin for radio equipment before the debate. Bush had that suspicious square shape under his jacket in the debate against Kerry. It's much easier to seem brilliant when you have a life-line to a political affairs expert.

carlo   October 2nd, 2008 8:49 am ET

I am not going along with this "the bar is low for Palin". That is ridiculous. If the Republicans are correct, Obama is a lightweight with no experience, yet no one lowered the bar for him. Why shouldn't the same rule apply to Ms. Sarah? I think that it is incredibly sexist to treat her with kid gloves. She is a grown woman who thinks that she is up to the challenge. Also, if anyone thinks that Palin won't be rude and insulting, go back and look at her old debates. They are all attack and no substance.

James From Chicago   October 2nd, 2008 8:48 am ET

I cannot wait for the debate tonight. Palin is the laughing stock of this country, and why does Biden have to handle her with kid gloves???
It should be a debate as usual and he should debate her as he would a man running for VP.

Susan Thomas - Rockville, MD   October 2nd, 2008 8:47 am ET

I've actually met Senator Biden a few times at the train station in DC. He is one of the most down-to-earth, genuine people you can imagine. When he speaks to you it's as though you've been friends for years. Absolutely no pretense – what you see is what you get.

But more than that he is intelligent, he knows foreign policy, he is thoughtful, understands complex issues and he is a seasoned veteran.

Knowing that he is one heartbeat away from the presidency is a comforting thought.

Knowing that Palin is a heartbeat away is enough to make me slightly nauseous.

After all the misleading statements and outright lies Biden has made in the past It's hard to believe that people think he may make a better VP than Palin. proud army and navy mom   October 2nd, 2008 8:45 am ET

I am looking for a last minute cancellation by Palin.

She is absolutely unqualified and from all reports petrified about this debate. Mcwar is throwing her out to the wolves, he will drop her if she makes it any worse for him.

Can't say that I feel sorry for old girl, though. Palin knew she was not qualified and she arrogantly, without consulting her family, accepted the offer. now she gets to pay the piper.

Andy   October 2nd, 2008 8:45 am ET

Granholm is bright, and probably a good sparring partner. But can she gut a moose? I think they should have Biden preparing by debating a much older woman, because he would probably be more inclined to show her respect. That's going to be something the pundits will jump on if he appears even the slightest bit dismissive of Palin. So better to prepare witih someone he would be disinclined to be condescending towards.

davit   October 2nd, 2008 8:44 am ET

Someone much funnier than I recently said, "Palin is the only person ever to lose an interview." Diminished expectations can only take her so far. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who believes that her abject failure this evening will truly mark the moment the Republicans lost the upcoming election.

Turnabout is fair play   October 2nd, 2008 8:44 am ET

We know you're ready Joe and we're not the least bit worried that you'll gaffe or say the wrong thing to Sarah Failin. She is going to try to bait you into saying the wrong thing but remember one thing, no matter what she says about you, the media is not replaying what you say over and over because she provided so much entertainment and fodder for SNL. She will start out okay but will fall flat on her face when Qwen asks her to clarify one of her questions. God Bless.

It's unfortunate the debate is scheduled for the evening prior to Joe's son deploying to Iraq. Biden is such a strong family man, that must be weighing on him even though he also knows he has a responsibility to uphold in St. Louis that is bigger than any one person or family. Go get 'em, Joe, and our thoughts and prayers will be with Beau and all of our sons and daughters in harm's way.

leapfrog   October 2nd, 2008 8:39 am ET

OK...here're my predictions for tonight. Because it's much easier to attack someone's character then it is to attack someone's substantive arguments when you don't understand them, I predict that Palin will come out swinging against Obama and Biden. Biden will be tentative because he doesn't want to come across as bullying the "little woman." Gwen Ifill, now afraid of being labeled with a bias towards Biden, won't press Palin enough initially. Biden will eventually swing into action, which will pull Ifill along with him, and the result that we're all expecting, that Palin will be called to the carpet on substance and will be found lacking, will occur. But then the GOP attack campaign will call foul and say the whole thing was rigged by Ifill and Biden. The GOP party faithful will believe it and cast enough doubt where the few undecided voters out there won't change.

Joe Biden should be very careful because this Sarah Palin we see in the latest interviews is not the real Sarah Palin. This is just a set-up because the real sarah will show up tonight and she is probably going to be far more intelligent than this bimbo we've seen her portray in the interviews. Shock and Awe is the only thing the Repubs and the McCain camp have left and they know how to that game very well. I bet we see a very different Palin tonight.

Michelle Marietta Ga   October 2nd, 2008 8:33 am ET

All the best to Joe tonight. We all should expect Palin to do a great job as well, although I do believe she does have a hard time undertanding the questions, so it should be an advantage for Joe Biden.

The tide has turned in favor for a Obama/Biden win, but we need to keep an eye on the Republicans....they have a history of pulling some dirty tricks! Where is The Evil Karl Rove?

Mercilessly attack the FLIP-FLOPPING John McCLOWN, while treating PaliNOCCHIO with white gloves: no need to punch someone who is already on her knees... :-) :-)

Johnny   October 2nd, 2008 8:30 am ET

I am feeling even better. Palin is a disgrace to our intellects!

Stacy from Loudoun County, VA   October 2nd, 2008 8:30 am ET

Joe sounds calm and cool, this is old hat for him. I just hope he is not too cocky. Stay the path my friend!

Palin is plain dumb   October 2nd, 2008 8:28 am ET

THE SAD PART IS THAT NO ONE EXPECTS ANYTHING FROM PALIN WHEN THEY SHOULD EXPECT EVERYTHING THEY EXPECT FROM BIDEN

Cathy   October 2nd, 2008 8:28 am ET

Wish you all the best Biden. Pls. be careful not to underestimate her ability to act vulnerable and attract pity.

Jasmine   October 2nd, 2008 8:27 am ET

Make sure you coddle the Alaskan Governor. We wouldn't want to hurt her feelings.

Tony   October 2nd, 2008 8:26 am ET

Today's Special!

Creamed Moose!

Spencer from VA   October 2nd, 2008 8:26 am ET

Sen. Biden knows more dirt on McCain than Palin knows on Obama. I believe he will exploit McCain's flaws and leave the chihuaha without a bone to chew on. She needs to give short answers if she plans on coming out of this thing alive.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Tony   October 2nd, 2008 8:25 am ET

GO JOE!

Just don't talk too much. Just stand back and watch Palin implode!

Ryan   October 2nd, 2008 8:25 am ET

McCain-Palin landslide!
Say it out loud everyone....and try not to laugh.

jaye   October 2nd, 2008 8:24 am ET

Our country needs you, Joe!

I'll also add that Katic Couric deserves a gold medal for her interview with Palin. THANK YOU Katie!!!!
Katic Couric and Jack Cafferty are my heroes!!!

@wolfblitzercnn: Redskins-Giants always exciting. Both teams have a lot to prove. And Giants can still salvage playoffs. Skins just need a win.
