McCain dropped $2 million before pulling up Michigan stake

McCain spent heavily on TV ads in Michigan.

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) – John McCain’s presidential campaign spent nearly $2 million on television in Michigan during the month of September before deciding to pull up stakes and focus resources elsewhere.

Political advertising data compiled for CNN by TNSMI-Campaign Media Analysis Group also shows that in the final two weeks of the month alone, McCain spent more than $661,000 on TV ads in the state. Two-thirds of those commercials ran in the Detroit and Grand Rapids television markets.

Even the Republican National Committee weighed in with a sizable one day ad buy of more than $62,000 on Sept. 30, the last day of the month.

A McCain aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the strategy was to try and force Obama to spend money in the state. And the aide added that there was “always a shred of hope to be able to capitalize on an electorate that was experienced and frustrated with the Democratic leaders” in the state. The McCain aide noted that Obama had invested serious time and money in Michigan and pointed to the Illinois Democrat’s decision to use the state as the stage to unveil the endorsements of former Vice President Al Gore and former Sen. John Edwards.

In the month of September, Obama spent more than $2.3 million on ads in Michigan, while the Democratic National Committee accounted for another $262,000 on campaign commercials.

It was an expensive gamble for McCain, but with 17 electoral votes on the line the campaign thought it was worth it. Now, the focus for McCain will be to keep past Republican states such as Colorado, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia in the GOP column, while trying to flip New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin as well as grabbing an electoral vote from Maine.

This awhile ago – definitely unbiased in Alaska

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A judge in Alaska is considering arguments to block a state Legislature investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, abused her power when she fired her public safety commissioner.

Five Republican legislators on Thursday asked Anchorage Judge Peter Michalski to issue a temporary restraining order. They say the investigation has been tainted by partisan politics."

This shows just how out of touch McCain is...he spends 2 million dollars in September, then pulls out. And that's just what he'll do as president: Make poor decisions. If he's running out of money, fine...pull the ads, close the campaign offices...but why announce it? Especially on the night of the VP debate? Like everything else he does, this makes no sense.

    Game over, John...thanks for playing!

I just heard McCain talk about pre-existing conditions for health care. He’s promising anything and everything now. He is once again using Obama's lines. He talks about caring for veterans, but history proves the opposite.
Now he says Obama is about expanding bureaucracy. McCain wanted to create a new commission to look into Wall Street. And McCain, we don’t have spending under control because of Bush’s wars.
When he tries to empathize with the audience he looks like he is groveling. He doesn't believe what he says. He is losing momentum and drive. He seems so exhausted.

There is NO WAY IN HECK I'm going to TRUST Mr. McLIE. He's lied every step of the way for the past 19 months. I mean, he clearly can NOT be trusted by HIS own actions. He's lied so many times, it hard to tell when he's actually telling the TRUTH!!!

It's the CHARACTER of a Candidate that speaks volumes, and speaks to their credibility. AND right now John McCain has neither qualities.

John McCain has proven himself incompetent by his own contradictive claims. Honestly, does he really think Americans are that STUPID?? It really unbelievable how much this old man lies on a regular basis.

Yesterday ,I saw an Ad featuring Rev. Wright, Tony Rezko, and Bill Ayers. This was yesterday's News and now I know John McCain feels he is in trouble because he is going negative. John McCain promised that he would not go negative. He lies about Ear Marks, He lies about Obama, He lied about going negative, and he misleading the American people.

We all know when John McCain is blinking fast and speaking slow he is lying.

I am a Republican that will be voting for Obama/Biden because we need real change in Washington not another Misleading canidate.

There is so much special interest money behind the Republician Party, they can well afford the two million dollars. These people will pay anything or do anything to stay in power.

Thankfully the Obama campagin has harnessed the power of the people to fight back. We need to keep supporting CHANGE with our dollars and with our votes.

Obama's money was well spent. I say good luck to McCain in trying to keep NV, OH, FL red, or attempting to flip PA or NH. Not gonna happen. Check the polls after Palin's nonconvincing performance in tonights debates. The McPalin ship is taking on water fast. I dont think they can reach shore by Nov 4th.

This illustrates just how seriously out of touch McCain is. He tries to out-spend Obama in a state he knows he can't win. Just think about how he'll make decisions in the White House...without putting much thought into them.

Well, his only hope at this point is Florida...if he loses that state, it's game over!

What has the Republican party been reduced to? Quitting! Maybe it all started when they statred setting the bar low with Sarah Palin! The Republicans have been reduced to accepting mediocrity from their party leaders. Such a shame to see Americans giving in like that!

The irony of it all........remember when people were saying they would not vote for Obama, unless Hillary was on the ticket. Now, many will not vote McCain because Palin is on the ticket! What goes around always comes around.
