Obama takes campaign to the iPhone

Barack Obama's campaign recently launched a new Apple iPhone application.
Barack Obama's campaign recently launched a new Apple iPhone application.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama, who has made his virtual campaign as much of a priority as its real-world counterpart, is making a play for iPhone users.

Over the weekend, the campaign launched a volunteer-developed application that iPhoners can download. "Obama '08", which is free through the Apple.com iTunes store, features several options aimed at supporters and undecided voters.

– The "Call Friends" tab allows users to use their electronic phonebook to call contacts, with top priority given to contacts in local and battleground states. The application tells users no personal data or contacts will be uploaded or stored — though the number of calls made will be “uploaded anonymously."

– The "Get Involved" option gives iPhoners the phone numbers to Obama campaign
headquarters around the country, depending on where the user is located; they can also find out about “Local Events.” Both functions are based on the GPS feature of the phone.

– iPhone users can "Receive Updates" through e-mail and text message alerts.

– "News" features statements put out by the Obama campaign, separated by national and local categories; "Media" features links to YouTube videos put out by the campaign; Users are able to directly watch the video, as well as e-mail it out.

– An "Issue" feature highlights all of Obama's positions, from civil rights to Iraq.

Naturally, like any good campaign tool, the Obama iPhone application comes complete with a fundraising pitch.

At the bottom of the application menu, there's a green "Donate" button. Once clicked, a disclaimer appears: "You are about to dial the Obama for America donation hotline, exiting this application. Contributions are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes."

And for users who may feel this campaign season will never end, a particularly re-assuring feature pops up right next to the donate button: An election countdown.

  1. McCain/Palin go home

Obama may not have invented the Blackberry but he certainly understands how to use 21st century technology as an effective set of tools. He's actually leading rather than just yapping about it as is McCain. This is very cool :-).

No matter how much it flashes, beeps, or updates, Obama's programs are all still Socialist programs at the core. It clearly takes a ton of money to sell Socialism to America.

We have veered so far off track in the past 50 years, it is simply sad! If Obama is installed as our leader, we're headed straight for a completely Socialist state. Wake up, America! The "hope and change" nonsense is simply Socialism; it's been tried elsewhere and fails EVERY time!!

  4. America will be free again

    This is modern America....
People just think of what Obama would do as president. Science and tech will move forward. Imagaine Ch 73 on cable is Obama TV and its all positive ads not negative. He is showing stuffs that the whole world is running to catch up. Imagine him in direct command of both military and technology. We will regain our edge in al forms. We need the 21st century knowledge and move America back ahead of others.
    Thanks Obama

Obama is smart. He is reaching the youth voters on their terms. Unfortunately, young voters are not reliable to go to the polls also democrats turn out in lower numbers than republicans. Last election we were told that this is the most important election in our lifetime and the dems and young still didn't turn out in large numbers. Obama has been able to energize the party. Lets hope and pray the the young voters will be responsible and vote. All of you Democrats too because in reality this is the most important election of our lifetime.

As the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) stated in a recent story:
Palin appeals to "the white trash vote" with her "toned-down version of the porn actress look."

    LOL...too funny!!!!!

I am fortunate enough to own two homes. One is a very small cottage, not on a lake that costs less than a new Saturn. The second I have a mortgage on. If I were to lose my mortgaged home, I have the crack house in which to live.

Some people aren't that lucky. I am voting for the man with one house as he knows just how much losing it would effect his family. He has more to lose than someone with more than one home.

BRAVO Sen. Obama. This is WHY you will be the NEXT PRESIDENT.

We need a President who looks to the future, has vision of the FUTURE.

NOT an OLD FART who continues to speak about the PAST, i.e. Ronald Reagan, The Cold War, Pres. Truman, and his POW record.

Jesus, Lord knows we NEED a brilliant visionary who will lead us into the next decade!! Sen. Obama and Joe Biden is who we NEED to lead us forward.

AMERICA, PLEASE WAKE UP AND PAY ATTENTION.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT SKIN COUNTRY. IT'S ABOUT MOVING THIS COUNTRY FORWARD, IT'S ABOUT CHANGING HOW WE DO BUSINESS.

IT'S ABOUT PUTTING AMERICA BACK ON THE RESPECTED AND HONORABLE STATUS.

WE NEED TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK AND SHOW THE WORLD THAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT HONOR, RESPECT AND DIPLOMACY.

AMERICA THE PROUD!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Obama' s campaign from day one, has used all the technologies available to get his message across, and to raise funds...
Keep in mind that he refused to use federal funds, that McCian is using, for his presidential campaign...
McCain cannot start a PC, he's using negative adds and smoke signals to obtain votes...
Even the cuban population in Florida is going for Obama...
Palin cannot say good morning, without being coached, what kind of an idiot is that!...
    Who do you prefer?...
For us is very simple, the choice is yours...

An IPhone won't help him when he needs to make a quick decision in a crisis – ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-...! :(

Obama has 300 plus "Foreign Affairs" advisors, and he still needs a teleprompter to keep him on track after 18 months of practice!

But, but he sure can shmooze the fans he wants to manipulate! :(

What time are we supposed to start belting down the 6-packs before Sarah Palin goes on? I think she meant for us to be good and drunk by the time it starts............so we can make sense of what she is saying.

The more of this type of stuff I see, the more I am convinced that the Obama campaign is eerily similar to a cult, like the moonies. It scares me. I am not being funny or facetious. It really does scare me.

God, you liberals make me puke. Obama can do NO wrong, McCain can do NO right... no matter hw stupid these CNN blogs are.

When the only "change" you get is the few coins Obama leaves in the bottom of your pocket, I hope you're happy.
