From

ST LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) — Palin's answers do not lack confidence, they lack coherence.

Can you all imagine if it had been Hillary debating Palin??!?

king   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I am so sad, this was a q and a for Biden and a teaching tutorial for Palin.

Tara   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

She may be the most incompetent VP nominee of all time.

Diane Oklahoma   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

She's the affirmative action candidate!!

Best Regards,

An African American Female

rachele   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I think she is nice and very sweet…

I always vote lesser of evils…but Palin McCain ticket is scary…that ticket is just a heart beat away.

I just don't think her world is big enough for me…she scares me honestly…I know Alaska is part of America but she has not really been here…come on everyone she is in over her head…She has seen nothing close to our neighborhoods.

If I got anything different then I would be okay…but so far she is not convincing to me…

Nice woman…but she is not ready…she doesn't understand her position as VP

Deb Roseman   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

There's no comparison between Palin and Biden. Biden not only shows his intelligence, but out speaks Palin at every opportunity. Please … no more W's or Quayles. Since when did it become cool to have a mediocre executive leading this country?

Susan   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Palin : MUTE
Biden: Volume

My Policy

Paul   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

How is Palin like the average American? How much money
does she and her husband ( is he a fisherman or does he
own a fishing business?) make annually? How dare she
compare herself to every other regular American!

Ann   October 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I almost expected a "Ya der hey" out of her

redgundogs   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

She has no Achilles heel. She is ready to go, and she keeps getting that breathy voice when she decides that she wants to bo our 'friend'.

annoyed seriously   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

well too late at least hes talking about his tickets intentions. this debate was a joke

EqualBranchesofGovernment   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

It sounds like she''s running for a BEAUTY PAGENT……not VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!…..

John   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Ok!!! I don't want to hear any comments about Gwen. Also, If you are watching in HD, we all need to get in line to sign up for a check like Ed Rollins. Either he doesn't know what he is doing or he is getting a pay check. I WANT A PAY CHECK TOO. That is utterly ridiculous.

sandee in Portland   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Practiced, practiced, practiced. Everything she said that was memorized or on her notes, she said well, but when she didn't have a memorized answer, she stumbled and seemed at a loss. Also, I didn't hear her give one straight answer to any of the questions, just general rhetoric. But, since the bar was low for her, she did well.

RiRi   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

i love how she is continuing to reinforce why she should be nowhere near the white house!

Lennon Haas   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Why the politics of fear all the time? Yes, we must be cautious of risks and dangers. But why must our candidates always use abject fear as a motivating factor in political campaigns? Why can't logic, reason, and common sense be the motivations?

djak   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I will admit she at least sounds more coherent than she did with the media interviews, but it felt like she was repeating herself…nucular, reform, maverick, etc. She kept tossing those catch phrases out.

Reasonably Intelligent Woman from PA   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

She speaks as if telling a bedtime story to a child, very wide eyed and animated. But there is nothing there, other then canned statements that come out when McCain pulls the string at the back of her neck. And did she really say "doggone it?" No really, did she?

Andrea'   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

her ending sppech is the only answer that sounded coherent.

Erin in Oklahoma   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I'm glad this is almost over. I'm also glad that my daughter watched "Total Drama Island" instead of watching this. I don't want her to see one woman set all women back with her lack of knowledge.

Betty   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Of course you liberals can't understand her, All of you are narrow minded liberals. and you won't listen or try to understand anybody that does think like you liberals.

Mrs. Smart   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Ryan, why is it that republicans have no problem taking the money and
run, but like to refer to everyone else as "socialists"?

Dominion1906   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Palin seems to just babble . She mentions that she likes to answer the tough questions but she did not do a good job of doing this. There were moments were her voice quirved as if she was getting frustrated. Did anyone catch that? Her final statement was so lame and rehearsed. SMH……

Mary, ex-PUMA   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

It's like a boxing match with the world champ against the club boxer. And the champ is beating the hell out of the club boxer. It's almost painful to watch. Almost, but not quite.

MCD, San Francisco, CA   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I was amazed at Palin smiling while saying that she is a very tolerant person who is always willing to be tolerant of the gay community. I don't think she even realizes what she is saying or how demeaning that is. I wonder if the gay community appreciates her "tolerating" their very existence.

Independent in Portland   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

She is ignorant on many critical issues. It's clear that it's being concealed – thinly – by expert coaching.

John Buchanan   October 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Debate – it was her Stump Speech. Teflon Palin a Maverick of Deflection!

Kellen   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Is anybody really surprised about this? I mean seriously surprised. I spoke to a 5 year old the other day and she made more sense than this lady. Scary thought she might be President Palin if McCain kicked the bucket.

As if foreign leaders didn't have enough of a problem understanding Amercians with cultural and language differences. Do we really need them listening to someone who can't even put a coherent sentence together?

EAM   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Palin has not answered anything! This is scripted. She is just reading a story!

Palin is NOT the answer. Spunk yes! Smarts NO!

CA   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

It is so clear that Palin does not support drinking in moderation… I'm so drunk right now from drinking every time I hear Palin utter the words "maverick" and "energy independence…."

yellowgal   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

What is a maverick….how does the term apply to Palin…..Yes she may have champion corruption in Alaska.. Is that a maverick.

misleading the public on her involvment of the trooper investigation …is that corruptions. and abuse of power….clear your name….

Texas Voter   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I can't believe how much Joe Biden has lied tonight.

Joe Biden is a trial lawyer to the bone. Everyone should watch the Democratic primary debates, so you can see how much Biden bashed Obama. He's all talk, just like Obama.

jm from sc   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Fox News and people who would vote for an animal if they run on the republican ticket will say she was awesome.

People who are open and honest will agree with the ad. The woman has not clue except for the que cards.

Chi-town gurl   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

come on ya'lll…..she ain't that bad…….

C.J.   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Thanks Sarah for commenting about the mainstream media's far left screening of all political commentary.

m.e.   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Like the writer said in Newsweek: confidence and ignorance.

Just a viewer   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

She is an embarrasment for intelligent women across America!!! She think that by blinking her pretty eyes she is going to win votes. Come on

Jennifer   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Interesting that when asked what her achilles heel is, she could not think of one thing; instead, she used her time to remind us again that she has been a mayor and governor and to say yet again that John McCain is a maverick. She has spent the entire debate shuffling her cheat sheets she brought with her to produce canned, rehearsed answers to the questions, but providing little substance. This woman is a complete fraud and we should all be very afraid if she gets anywhere near the white house.

Bill   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

my head hurts listening to her.

Lisa   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Bill Schneider, you got it in for Palin?
Got nothing to say about Biden?
How about some balanced, unbiased commentary?
Is that possible?

L.

nelson mcnarland   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

after palin starts to talk is there anyone who knows what she said

Lynn X-democrat for McCain   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Biden is not confident on anything!! Tonight it's clear Obama and Biden our not right for the job!!! Biden should have sent Hillary to do the talking !!! Biden was really out thier on some of his ansewers folks!

Jeff   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Glad to see the CNN is so unbiased.

Ms Linda   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

She uses too much "slang" "Back in the day" – that's ok when talking to the girls, but on national TV in view of millions, running for VP of America. People get ready…..there's a storm a comin'

Kimber   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Palin's comments are all fluff and no fabric.

Tired in Georgia   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

What is Palin talking about?

perplexed   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Is this a contest for miss congeniality? She is being CUTE and smiling.. I want answers NOT lip gloss!

Misty   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I would pay to NOT hear her speak.

Rachielle from VA   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

she is a master of the non-answer. i haven't learned anything from her that could possibly sway me. she failed at that. she looks pretty tonite, and thats about it.

twicebitten   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

some people thought she did great…:-)

scary, eh?

Lyndon   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

This came about an hour and twenty minutes too late. Palin isn't just unqualified, she's a dangerous candidate to be placed so precariously close to the Presidency of the United States.

For the sake of our country's future, vote Obama.

Go Biden!!!!!   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

This is so sad. Palin is way out of her league. Enough of the cute catch phrases. Please just answer a question and stop giving out shout outs. Its not cute!!!!

JBB   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

AMEN no coherence whatsoever!!!!!!!

She said in closing comments she was thanking for the chance to answer the questions – what ??? did she answer!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

George   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

She can't even spell coherence, much less know what it means or how to formulate a thoughtful response. She has had her head packed full of platitudes, and that is all she knows to do when asked a question. Sad. And painful to watch.

Erik Sprague   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Bill, you lack coherence. I'm sorry, but are you actually an analyst? Let me get this straight: You're analysis was that her comments lack coherence? Jaha. Way to be fair and balanced. great insight Bill…i'd say you're losing it in your old age, but you lost it quite some time ago. Have fun voting for Obama.

Brandon Payne   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Bill Schneider you are so full of BS it is amazing. Why don't you just tell everybody you are campaigning for Obama. What debate are you watching anyway. Just goes to show why everybody calls this channel the Clinton News Network

Carol Timpano   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I couldnt look at Plalin her hair was in her eyes the whole debate………
Biden won easily

Maglet   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I hate it how she keeps going back to her family and saying how she knows this and diversity that. Blah. I wanted to hear what she had to say and I was hoping that she'd gear up for this and have some answers so I wouldn't think she was scary. But, um… she's ever scarier now.

Joe   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Oh gee, Bill, ya must be part of the liberal elite media. Up here is middle America, we like the idea of VP who winks and can't answer a direct question.

annoyed seriously   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

answer tough questions she avoiding the answer i didn't even learn anything about here ticket she keeps avoiding the questions, please please answer the question

Lynne   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

her answers lack coherence because she is out of her league and because she doesn't answer the actual question she is asked.

Voter   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Sara did a great job . She showed her strenghts.

Steve, Chelsea, MI   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Women that were supporting Hillary and are now voting for McCain because of Palin are the REAL sexists.

this is shameful   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

as a smart beautiful woman that I am

i am ashamed of Palin

I am sorry but not only she is clueless
she is just ignorant

and so why did we all go to school for?

and is this miss alaska pageant or a national debate?

and is this about alaska our about one of the most historic events of our times

is this about a hockey mom who the rest of us dont ID with or , or about our future??

come on, this is a VP debate not SNL

Petsilee   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I agree with Bill Schneider's remarks about Palin. She does sound confident but "YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND HER"!!!!!!!

A Foreigner - VOTING - for Obama   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Your comment is awaiting moderation….

Thanks Bill… right on point… 95% of what she has said lacks value… she seems a bit clueless… her views are very broad… not specific enough… pretty much BS!

Richie   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Loud shrill gibberish is still gibberish.

MC   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

What is she talking about!? If you vote for Palin and her running mate McCain you deserve everything you get. $6 for gas, your home foreclosed, another useless war, a failed economy!!!

J. Bean   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Even in adn.com's (Anchorage) poll, 49% think Biden is winning the debate and 43% think Palin is. One would think Palin would be doing better in her home state.

I had to laugh (again) when she said it's been the media filter that has told American people what to think. Palin has "f-ed" up on her own–it ain't the media's fault.

Maricela Gonzalez   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Well said, Schneider. Well said.

I don't understand what she is saying or even what she is trying to talk about.

STL   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

STOP CENSORING CNN! YOU COMMUNIST HACKS!

Reese of NC   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Thank God!!! I thought it was just me who saw that. Palin's answers sound rehearsed and Biden's sound natural. He clearly knows and believes what he is talking about. She is just spitting out half truths and "when I was in a Alaska" lines.

CLS in VT   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Did she just say she likes answering these tough questions? I am still waiting for her to do so.

Just a viewer   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

She is an embarrasment for intelligent women across America!!!

DCB   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Actually they lack content. She's charismatic, pretty and smiles a lot, but her answers only hit her (lightweight) points rather than responding tp what the moderator has asked.

Keith   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

she is very confident, but not abreast of the domestic and international issues. She certainly has no substance.

Josh   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Absolutely on the money about the coherence thing…Ryan et al that believe that Obama is a "socialist," this country has has socialist policies for a long time: the idea of social security, healthcare, wellfare, medicaid, medicare. All these are commonly embraced by the American public because it benefits the common good. We should not live in a country where everyone is out to get ahead by cutting throats and slashing their way to the top. So you're socialist charge can pretty much be a compliment, because if you're of the mindset that everyone is out for themselves and you should not rely on your neighbor or the American public, then you can go move to Iran or Mexico where people are literally killing each other to get ahead.

john l   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Sarah Palin is just plain weird. I think she is a unstable wacky mom

Cindy   October 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Go Joe!! Finally clarified the "maverick" nickname!

Thank you Thank you Thank you for saying what I have been thinking all night. This was painful and quite scary and I am sorry relating to the heartland or not but I do not want my political leaders speaking in a "folksy" manner when they are representing our great nation. If I interviewed her for even a Customer Service Rep position and she spoke with such poor grammer and diction I would not hire her.

Biden just finished up wiping Palin off the floor. What a blowout. If I was Biden, I would have just let her talk the whole time. She's handing the election to Obama as I type this. Thanks for playing McCain, your judgment has cost you the election.

kim   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

My favorite line

Nukulear weaponry, of course, would be the be all, end all of just too many people in too many parts of our planet, so those dangerous regimes, again, cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, period.

such insite. I am blown away. Let's give a shout out to all those many people in too many parts of the world.

Curtis - Marietta, GA   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

The moment of the debate – When Sen. Biden told Gov. Palin that "don't think that you're the only one who knows what it's like to raise a kid on your own". You tell em Joe!

Ruth   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

She is very gracious however, she isn't the type of person that America needs for a Vice President. She is not at all well spoken.

Kathryn   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Did she actually answer any questions? I have no idea what she was talking about half the time. It scares me that she could be second in command…

mhm

drooz   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Wow, how many ticker entries have been posted here criticizing Palin? And how many have been posted criticizing Biden? There's a reason I don't trust CNN for my news.

Terri-Ann, TX   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Too much talking points. Answer the questions Sarah Palin.

McPalin is toast   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

She's a total airhead, that is clear.
Spewing forth incoherent canned sound bites she doesn't understand.
Refusing to answer the many questions she doesn't understand.
Rehashing the same lines over and over and over….

And what's up with that WINK to the cameras?
Is this a high-school talent show???
"You betcha, six-pack Joe!"

Did anyone expect anything different????

Back to Chilly Willy Land with you, Caribou Barbie!

Obama/Biden 08

Maureen   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Palin has avoided answering the questions with slogans and catch phrases. I want to hear the facts to back up her claims that a McCain Palin Administration would be any different then the Bush Administration.

Will   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

She's just saying the words over and over again. I dunno what we just heard. She says we do because her debate was unfiltered.

But really I'm just confused. All I know are McCain's slogans.

Seth   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Who is this Schneider guy who keeps posting here and is only able to see the debate from one side? I'm watching it too, and I see that both candidates are giving strong answers. Very irresponsible journalism.

bobbi   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

she lacks understanding, she just does not make any sense.

Theodore Gates   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

I would not agree. It is not that they lack coherence… they simply ignore the questions.

Nyny   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

what does she have? conviction. what does she not have? meaning. purpose. ideas. experience.

sweden   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Palin sounds like someone who making a presentation – unprepared – looking at the paper that is full of keywords and just throw them out and hopes something sticks.

Stephen S.   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Agreed! I have struggled throughout the debate to follow or understand where she is going and what points she is attempting to make.

Roland   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Hey Ryan,

The biggest socialist shift in this country was just pushed through by a REPUBLICAN president, GEORGE W. BUSH. Bush is the real socialist.

listening to her speak is really gettin on my nerves.

G in the A   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

She's a lier on taxes , job creation. Plus she also just described Obama's plan as far as infastructure. I have NEVER heard Mccain say anything about that.

Jim in CA   October 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET

You know what? Biden is pretty good at this.

Mason   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I agree with Bill Schneider 100%. She is incoherent.

KJL   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Palin's grammar is atrocious! I was amazed when she said she has school teachers in her family.

I'm sure Obama and Biden will be much more capable of a coherent, back-and-forth discussion than McCain and Palin ever could. It's obvious that Palin has tried to absorb and spit back as much of McCain as she can, and that she has copious notes. Frankly, I'm tired of maverick, stinking corpse, and all the other phrases she keeps parroting.

PL   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Did Palin discover Alaska?

Jennifer   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

She just repeats GOP talking points. There's no substance behind any of her answers..

Linda   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

For those outside Alaska, please check out the local paper for information in Wasilla and Alaska to see her real experience in Alaska and while Mayor.

Eve   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Can't understand alot of what she says. What's she talking about? What war did McCain win? Can she say "new-clee-er"?

Naweed   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

They lack sense . … she is just repeating what's dumped on her

Houston   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

"UP THERE IN ALASKA……." ….everything must be perfect…here is a "leader" who does not own up to past mistakes or even admit to them…that worries me alot….i think she is dis-illusioned to the real world in the contiguous states because she is severely out of touch…..

please answer the questions!!!!!

Theresa and Sheldon Johnson   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Thank you, I agree. She is confident in the fact that she thinks she knows what she is talking about. She sounds scripted. Joe was real and at times showed much emotion during his arguments. I loved it. Joe was great!!!!! Oh Joe is the Maverick here. Not Mcsame Mccain

witch   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I really don't know any more about her then I did before the debate. I was hoping that we would see what is suppose to be so special about her.

LawStudent412   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks she hasn't really answered any of the questions she's been asked. Are you serious?

AH   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Is there any proof that Palin helped Alaska? I can't believe it!

E. L. Briscoe   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

The Governor seems to be holding dear to her seemingly singular "expertise", energy. She has also failed to answer a number of questions.

Ex-McCain supporter   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I am beginning to really hate Alaska and "Maverick." It is all she knows how to answer any question with.

Truthfighter   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

boy i can't wait for the analysis on this.

andrea   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

She should stop saying "Maverick" she doesn't have the experience to be VP. She can't even answer a question correctly!!!

Bradley Smith   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

The Maverick line put the nail in the coffin on this debate. McCain should buy her a copy of hooked on phonics.

Julia W.   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

But she does have a lot of arrogance.

Krum   October 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET

God help us if the Republicans should win… Palin is completely unable to speak on her own! Everything is so coached… ughhhh

Omaha   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Biden can only hope to be as coherent. He flounders through every question, constantly referencing Bush. Does he really think he's running against Bush? I can barely call McCain a Republican, I always thought of him as a Democrat in past, and nothing has changed my mind there.

brian   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Biden has shown that he would be an awesome President. palin, not so much, give her another 20 years or so.

Ada   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

She's like a robot….programmed to say what McCain wants her to say. She hasn't said anything that makes sense…All I hear, is Maverick, Maverick, Maverick, …..

lkstevens   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Her answers lack answers!

Mike, FL   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

It is easy to tell that all her answers are rehersed since she keeps sidestepping a question she is not familiar with.

Dee   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

I'm going to get picked for VP running mate and then give a "shout out" as a response to a question.

Robert Deming   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Palin knows she is losing and is tiring!

STL   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Palin is continually putting Biden on the defensive. She is much more natural in her presentation. It's America at it's best.

Brittany   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Yeah, Palin certainly does put some force behind her answers (if she actually answers them), however, I'm not seeing where she is going…she's alot better than I anticipated I'll admit

Lawrence Hinchee   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Palin needs to stay focused on the issues. When they were debating foreign policy she was discussing energy policy in Alaska.
She tap dances very well.

Jonathan   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Palin is a little out of her league. Biden is well prepared and gives articulate answers. Palin's answers seem scripted. I am a McCain supporter but I think this debate may have clinched it for Obama.

Ms Linda   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Exactly! Rehearsed answers. If a strong wind came and blew those notes off that podium, she's be done! Literally done!

God help us, or as they say in Britain: God Save the Queen.

Alphonso from Washington D.C   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

LOL! I thought that I was the only one that noticed this.

DisgustedRepublican   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Agreed, Palin had no focus at all and her jokish manner is not something I can ever respect.

Chris from STL   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Yes. Agreed. Ignorant but confident!

TexicoFrom Mexico   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

omg she is so done….this is just sad! I have watched every debate since 1992 and I must say this is the saddest disply I have ever seen! Ross Perot at least knew his stuff compared to her….is she really a Govenor? If so someone needs to send aid to Alaska

MrsS   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

I can not believe how incredibly stupid she is. This is so very sad!

Linda   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

She has not given a point or an example to any questions.

stephen hill - binghamton, ny   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

She only read the first few chapters of "Debates for Dummies"

Barney   October 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET

She's a trainable puppet for the conservatives.

NO NO NO NO More McCain/Palin

Let's get back to the constitution – for ALL OF US.

Suzanne   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Should we be surprised, Bill?

We've seen the precursor to Palin's performance tonight in her interviews with Gibson and Couric.

Conservatives kept saying, we need to see the Sarah Palin from her acceptance speech at the RNC. She was reading from a teleprompter.

Quite obviously, tonight, a lot of her talking points came directly from the note cards on her podium that she had to read directly from, and occasionally glance up to Gwen Ifill or the camera.

Me in NC   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Bill,
I thought it was just me. It seems as she struggles to switch from the oneliners to the scripts memorized.

Bradley Smith   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

All of her answers sound rehearsed and someone should buy her a copy of hooked on phonics.

Karen   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Amen! I couldn't put my finger on it, but you hit the nail on the head. It's like she knows a bunch of words, sprinkles the word "maverick" along with other catch phrases and thinks it all makes sense. I'm a bit smarter than that, and I think the rest of America is as well…

Ditto   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Every time she speaks…I say huh..

Air Force 1   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Palin definitly put on her tap dancing shoes tonight!

Josh   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

spot on Bill!

Mike in Seattle   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Thank you for saying that, and I thought it was me.

Truthfighter   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Now your talking Bill, you hit it on the nose.

Mary   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Excellent point!

Anthony   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Palin's answers are not answers but more questioning the questions

OBAMA'08   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Palin diverts her answers from the original questions….

Palin is not a champion for women's issues   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

palin is a rambling hockey mom….she does not answer the questions….she goes back to talking points all the time…reformer, maverick surge…pointing back to george bush….how do we know where we are going if we don't know where we are coming from?

laker1724   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Bill you want to talk about coherence, Obama did not make to many sense at all and he seems to never take a stand on an issue, just waits it out until he figures out the best solution that makes him look good. Palin is doing a fine job for her first debate.

jmb   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

whew…i'm glad it's not just me that thinks so.

ralph   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

You said it!. She really talks, but says nothing. Even for a politician.

ER   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Thank you! How is she on the ticket?

Ella   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

If Palin says "maverick" one more time……and this woman does not know anything. She doesn't know when to smile, when to laugh, and she pronounces the names wrong…..and calls herself a business owner and an executive…..and that business with Sudan…everybody in the States had to pull their investments out of there…..she is so ignorant and so very ridiculous….is that what we need….another VP or President (God forbid), who is so lame….so ignorant, so un-educated and plain old stupid.

Jramos   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

I agree, and she sounds too rehearsed, we need someone who isnt studying as they go along. ESPECIALLY being one heart beat away from the PRESIDENCY.

sunshine   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Lack of coherence is an understatement.

Armando Ortiz   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I'm not the only one that noticed this…

Emilio   October 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Of course not, they're talking apples and she's answering with oranges

Dee   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

and substance also. if she uses the word also, I'll cry

Roland   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

They also lack substance and relevance. But she winks really pretty, doesn't she?

jl   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

WELL, SAID!!!!!!!

American for obama------   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I can't make sense of her answers

latrice   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

hillary put women 10 steps forward and palin has brought us 25 back
if mc cain wanted to chose a woman to get womens vote he should have just agured with hillary about issues and made her his v.p.

Georgia Girl   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

You are sooooo right! I am so scared that she maybe a heartbeat away.

Alease   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

It was clear she didn't know what Achilles' heel meant!!!!!

Q Glenn   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

They just LACK!

Vegas Barbie for Obama   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Not only do they lack coherence (starting with her rambing on Global Warming), they lack correct pronunciation, as in NUCLEAR, she says it just like GWB!

Cathy, Peoria AZ   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Will someone please explain the meaning of Achilles Heel to the Gov!

bridgergirl13   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Gosh golly, lots of down-home language…absolutely no answers. This sealed the deal for me. Great Cub Scout mom…not a VP!

cmiranda   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I agree – her syrupy sweet answers have a snide and condescending tone for sure. But they lack a message and an understanding of what is being asked. But who cares? She's cute and she's going to take the conversation back to energy independence anyway.

slingen   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

oh lord…she just goes on ….and on…please…did anyone see a forklift bring in her note cards prior to the start of this thing….

America think for you   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Joe Biden put that cheerleader out of words. America look at her debate answers she is clueless and not ready to lead this great nation. I do not know that if she did not answer the question asked but, she did not answer them directly. Joe Biden is the projected winner of that debate

bobbie   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Yes I agree

J-M   October 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!

Sharron   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

AMEN!

J. Edward   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

How wonderful to see Biden become emotional! Too many polititians seem robotic (Palin) today

ines   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Agree with you 100% Bill. There is basically no substance coming from Palin. She is a talking condensed brochure.

Ryan   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Obama is a socialist!!! What about that do people not understand.

Sam   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I'm understanding just fine.

jonny   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Wow. Its soooo obvious when Palin is reciting a speech compared to when she is speaking from her own thoughts. When she recites a speech she looks at the camera and speaks well. When she speaks from her own thoughts she looks away from the camera and talks more in slurs and with a very strong accent.

Almost none of her comments have been her own spontaneous thoughts.

Jason   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

It's pretty easy to be confident when you're narrow-minded.

keisha   October 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET

ok, the debate has become very boring. it's not a debate. I feel sorry for Joe. He knows the issues but doesn't have anyone to successfully debate them against. Palin is just giving a practiced speech. I guess she thinks that Americans are tas clueless as her and will fall for her slogans. And if she doesn't stop using the darn "maverick" term. I wonder if she really knows what that is.
