House passes bailout

The House passes bailout.
The House passes bailout.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – The House on Friday passed a far-reaching and historic plan to bail out the nation's financial system.

The vote for passage of the Senate-amended bill – 263 to 171 – was the result of strong lobbying on the part of the White House and other supporters of the bill all week, following the House defeat of a similar measure on Monday – a defeat that shocked the markets and congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle.

According to preliminary numbers, 172 Democrats voted in favor of the bill while 62 opposed it; and 91 Republicans voted for it and 108 voted against it.

What great news! I've been distraught for months over the plight of that children's arrow company and the rum producers in PR and USVI. Now I can sleep at night again, knowing that my government truly has its priorities straight and would never steer me wrong.

Having being unemployed for almost 2 years and my motgage in crisis and not having any support, I hpoe this bailout will help create jobs and my house will no longer be for closure. I hope something very positive comes out of it.

high stakes poker game by a bunch of liberal crooks. When will they start to indict Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and the rest of the gang for Fannie and Freddie mismanagement? And why on earth are they not apologizing for their lies and distortions to innocent victims?

The corruption in Washington is destroying this country. Congress has the lowest approval rating in history. Yet they still pat themselves on the back.

You think Obama will change things? All we're doing is giving Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid more power.

Thanks Dems, for the 50 points on the Dow, get ready for a 500-1000 drop if Obama is elected. I have already heard of companies looking to move their operations offshore to other countries. They will not stick around for the tax hikes. And you think putting extra taxes on Oil companies are good? Don't be surprised when they leave too, just like Haliburton.

Great – pork. Don't these folks know that too much pork is bad for their health?

I'm pleased that my liberal Democratic congressman voted NO again.

Again, John McCain failed to unite his GOP party, only 91 republicans supported the bill compared to 172 democrats.

    McCain – A FAILED LEADER.

Now if Paulson just had some idea of what he's going to do with all that money. All visible indications are that he's making this up as he goes.

God I pray this will help people to stay in their homes. To see children living in cars and tents is one of the most devastating conditions I have ever seen in America. 159,000 jobs lost last month is no joke and who knows when they will lose theirs if they aren't in that number now. Americans must learn to be compasionate to all our fellow citizens.

The race is on which will fall harder the USA now with the $700 billion or the state of California. Which quicker!

That must have been one hell of a "pork shank" attached to the bailoutbill. It is amazing how "emergency pork" can save the day. So now they are going to give 700 billions dollars back to the bank robbers of wall street to see if they can make the same mistake over again......well..........bend over Americans and begin to receive your "portion of the pork."

  16. McCain!

This "Rescue Plan" (aka bailout) had to happen (like it or not).

When elected, McCain will get us back on the right track; if Obama gets elected, he will simply get impeached with his "false hopes & sad dreams."

  18. Laughing all the way to a Democratic victory

This is truly a democratic victory for both the party and Barack Obama. Those who don't think the democrats had pretty much everything to do with this bill are just fooling themselves, or just fools.

This makes no sense, if the concerns are main street as well as wall street. then give each American family one million dollars. I bet you GNP, Wall Street, Housing market and everything else would improve..at a cost much less than 700Billion.

Mr. Bush, you have shown the world just how greedy politicans and CEOs in America are.
Mr. Bush, you have shown you support corporate growth above all else. More corporations have been purchased during this created, planned "crisis" by "Wall St." You wish to ensure that only 5 or 10 corporations control this country and the globe.

Mr. Bush you should be impeached for attempting to make America a third world country.
