House passes bailout

The House passes bailout.
The House passes bailout.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – The House on Friday passed a far-reaching and historic plan to bail out the nation's financial system.

The vote for passage of the Senate-amended bill – 263 to 171 – was the result of strong lobbying on the part of the White House and other supporters of the bill all week, following the House defeat of a similar measure on Monday – a defeat that shocked the markets and congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle.

According to preliminary numbers, 172 Democrats voted in favor of the bill while 62 opposed it; and 91 Republicans voted for it and 108 voted against it.

It is much needed ... hope we can start bringing the econoy back .... there's still a lot of pain left though!

People who are against this, I just can't understand the logic. If this bill had come out, say about a month ago, we could have prevented LEH, WM, indymac, WB go under, and a lot of people getting hurt on their 401K.

This is a disgrace to our system of checks and balances..to our constitution, to our basic rights. We have stood by allowing one freedom after another to be attacked, and stolen by manipulation. This is wrong, wrong, wrong. DID ANYONE HEAR 'WE THE PEOPLE'?

The Best that can be said now is

I love that you Republican court jesters are trying to pin this on Obama, and fearmongering about socialism, when this bailout plan was GEORGE BUSH'S IDEA and JOHN MCCAIN voted for it. You pinheads better be voting for Bob Barr, or you're just about the most dishonest lying hypocrites that could be found out there.

Bush Republican Administration, Bush Republican Appointees, Bush Republican incompetance.... thats what this boils down to. Don't believe the Republicans who are trying to pin this on Fannie and Freddie... in 2004 Cox and his board appointed by Republican Bush allowed banks/investment bank to get more dept than they could handle... this is the end result.

Once again the people will pick up the tab of the crooks.

I used to be a democratic but after this primry and general election and what has happened to the market – count me out forever.

We are doomed if Obama gets in. No wonder the foreign countries like him so much – they see an opening to take us down.

the solution for a drought is NOT a flood.... look for the "unforseen" consequences for this stupid idea.... and it will be the fault of BOTH parties, because both presidential candidates voted in favor of this pork-for-the-rich!!!

Nobody blamed the bailout on Obama. He is just another pawn who opens his pockets to special interests and corporate greed.
But, his socialist ideals cannot be denied...even by his strongest supporters. He plans to regulate business in the private sector. That is directly opposed to our Constitution. The only time our Administration should step in is to protect us from violence, coersion, and monopolies. Other than that, a business should be able to conduct its affairs as IT sees fit. As long as they don't create a market that excludes any chance for competition, they are not in violation of their rights.
