Clinton weighs in

Senator Hillary Clinton issued a statement praising Biden's performance.
Senator Hillary Clinton issued a statement praising Biden's performance.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton issued a statement shortly after the debate praising Joe Biden's performance:

“Tonight's debate underscored the stark choice American families face in this election," she said. “I've known Senator Biden a long time – as Americans saw tonight, he is a strong, passionate and experienced leader. Like Barack Obama, Joe Biden understands both the economic stresses here at home and the strategic challenges in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world.

“We saw yet again that Senator McCain and Sarah Palin will offer only more of the same failed policies of the Bush Administration. America's hardworking Middle Class families deserve better.”

I for one am not interested in supporting a ticket that is on the wrong track like the McCain/Palin ticket. I'm not impressed with all the "cutsie" stuff coming from Palin...to me very unprofessional and we already have that with Bush...

Thank you for seeing that we do not need an Annie Oakley that winks at our men. We need to get real.

    GO HUILLARY!

Biden wasw right on. He showed that he had an extensive command of teh issues while Palin answered only the questions she wanted to and had been programmed to answer.

According to several of the morning news shows, Palin did not answer the question put to her by the moderator 10 times. She chose the questions she wanted to answer adn theohters she totally changed the subject matter.

It was the moderator's job to get answers to the questions asked and in that respect I felt that Gwen Ifill did NOT do her job.

She's still hoping to be Joe's replacement; unfortunately for her, he didn't completely bomb, so it's less likely.

Let's see what the REAL polls say over the next couple of days before we judge who won the debate.

From where I stood, here is my take on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being awful and 10 excellence:
    Quailty of the Debate: 6
Both sides answering the questions: 5
    Joe Biden performance: 7
Sarah Palin: Clueless (Refusing to answer most of the questions by changing the subject)

Well if you want cutsie fine, Palin, but cutsie don't get you far in the world we so desperately need to change. Joe Biden has the knowledge that a VP needs and I would feel better if he had to step in to the #1 spot. She didn't answer the questions that were asked her I wish they would of made her but they let her wander around the issues. She didn't know the answers so best avoid the questions, she did that quite well. The fact she is even on the ticket scares me more now and I know the American people are smart enough to figure that out.

Joe you did an excellent job. More proud of our ticket.

Gov. Sarah Palin is not ready to lead. When a crisis arrives, you can't look down at your 3 by 5 cards and have all your cribbed notes. You have to know procedures, you have to know the law, and it would be nice to know the Constitution. Clearly she does not. This isn't some beauty pagent. The future fortunes of some 300 million Americans are at stake. We can't afford to have someone that clueless about national and international politics to be anywhere near the helm.

Hillary is such a sore loser. You know she is infuriated with the rise of Sarah palin and her excellent performance last night. Biden had more facts and i expect that after 35 years of experience. But Palin proved she could hold her own and as someone who was undecided, im going McCain / Palin now!!!

    I AGREE!!!!
As far as I am concered Biden UNDERSTOOD what he was talking about. Palin came off to me as she was "campaigning" and not
really addressing the questions. She DID NOT want to veer from
    what she studied!
I thought Biden was "real" I could relate to him, Palin came off as
a "stepford wife" Palin was too concerned with being folksly, I did not
relate to that. Times are tough and with her being a heartbeat away from the big chair I could care less about her being charming.
I am a "football mom" and the parents I talk to are scared alright as she suggested last night, scared there she running for VP!

While she's winking and using phrases and Gosh Darn It, she will
be taking away a woman's right to choose!!!!!
Question? If she has to REHEARSE and CRAM to come off as creditable, God forbid something happens to McCain what is she to do!? Who will be the new wizard behind the curtain? Smoke and mirrors!!!!

A very truthful comment!!! Sarah Palin again did not answer questions and openly stated to Sen. Biden and the moderator that I may not answer the questions to the way you want me to, but I am going to answer them the way I want to. Hmmmmm.....don't we already have a President that acts or behaves the same way. 'Doesn't listen to anyone, says what he wants to say, does what he want to do, disrespecting people along the way'? She was identical to President Bush!!!!

  18. Obama the only choice

Not only did last nights debates show that Joe Biden was strong and confident it also showed the Sara Palin can be programmed rather well. The difference in hearing Joe Biden speak and clearly know what he was talking about was very apparent compared to Sara Palin who could only spew out what had been drilled into her head for the past few weeks. She clearly had no idea what she was actually saying. How anyone could support the McCain/Palin ticket is beyond all logic.

Not to mention Palin apparently believes it is pronounced nucular instead of nuclear weapons. Did this remind you of a certain someone?

Sarah Palin was so far out of her depth that the Coast Guard had to send out a ship to rescue her. Her "folksy" charm might work for a small town in Alaska, but she is not presidential material. She does not have a command of the issues and that beauty queen smile isn't going to get the U.S. out of the economic and foreign policy messes that we are in. We need real leadership, not someone who can memorize bullet points. Sarah Palin was not a good VP choice, and McCain/Palin is not good for America.

Why does CNN think that Hillary's words matter enough to place her at the top of the Ticker?

    Is she saying anything different?

It's not like she likes Obama.

    Wait, it's CNN.

Why is everyone walking on egg shell when they speak about Palin? If she didnt want to get talked about then she should not be running. This is not a superstar contest or a PTA contest. This woman is running for the VP of the most powerful country in the world. How in the hell can you take it easy on this woman, when she has no clue? If she does well, then say so and when she looks foolish then say so. IF you wanted to see a Politician then look at Palin.. Does not have a clue and talks arund the question. AMAZING

It's only in the USA that VP can drinble round question and many time use one answer for several questions and still say she did a good job.If ur VP candidate is incoherent as Sarah Parlin and you america say great job, well,God save the queen.

Hilary hit it right on the nail. Palin is an insult to women, and this country for that matter!! She has no substance and she has no knowledge. And the bar should have never been lowered for her because she is a heartbeat away from being President.

She is really scary to me especially when she said she has no promise because she only been at this for 5 weeks. Just because Palin made no gaffes and she stayed to her script do not make it no better then before. She was very invasive, did not answer questions and she would talk out in left field sometimes. The conservatives can't be serious, she is laughable but it is not funny because she is running for one of the most powerful positions in the United States!!!
