Palin calls Obama comment 'reckless,' criticizes Couric

Palin says an Obama comment was reckless.
Palin says an Obama comment was reckless.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said Friday several of Barack Obama's comments about the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have been "reckless" and disqualify the Illinois senator for consideration as the next commander-in-chief.

The comments are among the Alaska governor's most pointed to date regarding the Democratic presidential candidate's readiness to serve and come one day after she aggressively jousted with Democratic VP nominee Joe Biden.

"Some of his comments that he has made about the war…I think, in my world, disqualifies someone from consideration as the next commander-in-chief," Palin told Fox News Friday. "Some of the comments he's made about Afghanistan, what we are doing there, supposedly just air-raiding villages and killing civilians - that's reckless."

Palin was referring to an answer Barack Obama gave at a August 2007 town hall meeting with New Hampshire voters, during which the Illinois senator was asked whether he had plans to shift U.S. troops out of Iraq to other terrorist hotspots like Afghanistan.

"We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there," Obama said of the U.S.'s mission in Afghanistan.

Those comments were immediately seized by GOP critics. The Republican National Committee sent out a press release shortly after calling them "offensive," and demanding he apologize. The McCain campaign has also highlighted the comments several times this campaign season. An AP Fact Check later reported Western forces had been killing civilians at a higher rate than insurgents.

Palin also commented Friday on her widely-panned series of interviews with Katie Couric, telling Fox interviewer she did not think the CBS News anchor asked enough issue-based questions.

“I did feel there were a lot of things she was missing in terms of an opportunity to ask what a VP candidate stands for, what the values are that are represented in our ticket," Palin said. "I guess I have to apologize for being a bit annoyed, but that’s also an indication about being outside that Washington elite, outside that media elite also, and just wanting to talk to Americans without the filter and let them know what we stand for."

In two separate and lengthy interviews with Couric over the last week, Palin seemed to struggle with a number of answers, including a defense of McCain's record on regulation issues. She also appeared to stumble when relating her views on the financial bailout, her foreign policy credentials, her preferred news sources of news, and a Supreme Court case she disagrees with.

"Man, no matter what you say you are gonna get clobbered," Palin told Fox about her heavily-scrutinized performance. "You choose to answer you are going to get clobbered on the answer. If you choose to pivot and try to go onto another subject that you believe Americans want to hear about, you get clobbered for that too."

Governor Palin, please discuss how your foreign policy positions will differ from the current administration's?

Hey, can I call you Gwen? Heckuva job, Gwen!

I'll betcha' my opponents are a-wishing that you had a Maverick representin' every Joe Six-pack, hockey mom – bless their hearts – ya' know? Darn right, a maverick does a heckuva job, not just kinda good, but honest-to-goodness heckuva job! As one of my heroes, Donny Rumsfield, once told me, "Golly gee willickers, that's a peach of a pickle!". So yes, I know a little somethin' about oil up here in the only Arctic state ;-)

"Some of the comments he's made about Afghanistan, what we are doing there, supposedly just air-raiding villages and killing civilians — that's reckless." This statement is so all over the place. Poorly worded and difficult to understand. She DOES need a media filter in order to find out what she was talking about last night. She is in no position or of the stature to decide what disqualifies someone for the presidency.

She is clearly clueless and not qualified. These facts render his criticism moot.

    Sarah Palin,

You are a bad joke on the Nation and the world.
It is the idiotic "fear and smear" tactics of your running mate and yourself that have turned off the American electorate.

If you don't think that the financial "rescue" package, Supreme Court decisions, sources of your information, McCain's record on regulatory votes and what your foreign policy credentials are not VP questions, what are? Your hair color?

    Go home Bambi.

Fake folksy right winger Govern Palin and her memorized talking points is only echoing what her handlers want her to say. In other words she's got all the worst points of George Bush and Dick Cheney combined!

She is disqualified to be VP by virtue of her lack of intelligence.

The Future Queen, Sarah Redneck is as cocky as they come. Arrogance galore...the inability to see her own limitations, and let's not overlook the sexist and annoying habit of winking at men every chance she gets.

Yeah, why don't you just try answering the questions, Sarah? Or are the answers too embarrasing? What serious candidate for anything answers a question by saying she doesn't know and she'll have to get back to you? What serious candidate thinks that living across the Bering Strait from Russia means she has foreign policy experience? Hell, by that standard, I must have foreign policy experience because I live across the Niagara River from Canada!
While you're at it, explain why you stated that the US Air Force has had to scramble to check up on Russian planes entering our air space. The Air Force says that never happened. You are a joke.

Wow, the McCain campaign is continuing the same "admit no mistakes" strategy that the Bush team has been using, as if people can't see that poorly executed air raids that kill civilians are indeed costing us support in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The resistance to speaking about a problem and trying to fix it is why were are still in Iraq years and years after the Bush administration told us that it would take "six day, six weeks, I doubt it will take six months".
And we STILL haven't finished the job in Afghanistan.

Palin and McCain seem to think that the answer is more sloganeering and avoidance.

I doubt that's going to sell to the American people, especially coming from the person in the race that most people see as the least qualified for the job of commander-in-chief.

If Palin was not ridiculous before, now she truly is. What Obama said may not be politically correct, but that doesn't make it untrue. Republicans are amazing. They talk about Americans like we can do no wrong. They take such pride in being American that they close their eyes to the realities.

Yes... we are killing civilians because that's what happens when we do air raids.

No... Americans are currently not on the forefront of education and work ethics. America has an international view amongst the rest of the world as being lazy and uneducated.

I am an American... but the first step in making America great is recognizing where we fall short... and make improvements based off facts. If we continue to lie to ourselves and bolster ourselves falsely, we will never achieve the greatness which we as Americans have so much opportunity to achieve.

Am I the only one offended by this woman? I mean deeply offended?

She reminds me of women who wink and flirt their way to the top of whatever field they are in. Real women have sacrificed everything to get where they are and here this chic comes winking to the audience. As if it's all a joke. It’s the debate of vice-presedential candidates!

I'm sorry, I know her folksy tone resonates with some and more power to them, but dang if I want her meeting world leaders saying you betcha, darn right and nukular. I have had it and anger is not my strong suit.

I have given up thinking America is smarter than this, but about half are not. I'm sure she's very effective 'up in Alaska', but not ready for the world stage. Outrageous...

Hahaha... funny. McCain hasn't been "clobbered" for every interview he's given. Biden isn't "clobbered" for every interview. Obama isn't "clobbered" in every interview. Palin gets "clobbered" because she can't answer "a-gosh-dern" question without looking like a complete horse's behind!! Oh wait, that's why she's limited to only conservative news interviews now – can't give her questions that are too tough to answer now, can we?

The "Pitbull" is grasping at air if she thinks a single person would accept her charge that Obama should be disqualified as President. Please. Desperation doesn't look good on you, Sarah.
