Palin calls Obama comment 'reckless,' criticizes Couric

Palin says an Obama comment was reckless.
Palin says an Obama comment was reckless.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said Friday several of Barack Obama's comments about the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have been "reckless" and disqualify the Illinois senator for consideration as the next commander-in-chief.

The comments are among the Alaska governor's most pointed to date regarding the Democratic presidential candidate's readiness to serve and come one day after she aggressively jousted with Democratic VP nominee Joe Biden.

"Some of his comments that he has made about the war…I think, in my world, disqualifies someone from consideration as the next commander-in-chief," Palin told Fox News Friday. "Some of the comments he's made about Afghanistan, what we are doing there, supposedly just air-raiding villages and killing civilians - that's reckless."

Palin was referring to an answer Barack Obama gave at a August 2007 town hall meeting with New Hampshire voters, during which the Illinois senator was asked whether he had plans to shift U.S. troops out of Iraq to other terrorist hotspots like Afghanistan.

"We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there," Obama said of the U.S.'s mission in Afghanistan.

Those comments were immediately seized by GOP critics. The Republican National Committee sent out a press release shortly after calling them "offensive," and demanding he apologize. The McCain campaign has also highlighted the comments several times this campaign season. An AP Fact Check later reported Western forces had been killing civilians at a higher rate than insurgents.

Palin also commented Friday on her widely-panned series of interviews with Katie Couric, telling Fox interviewer she did not think the CBS News anchor asked enough issue-based questions.

“I did feel there were a lot of things she was missing in terms of an opportunity to ask what a VP candidate stands for, what the values are that are represented in our ticket," Palin said. "I guess I have to apologize for being a bit annoyed, but that’s also an indication about being outside that Washington elite, outside that media elite also, and just wanting to talk to Americans without the filter and let them know what we stand for."

In two separate and lengthy interviews with Couric over the last week, Palin seemed to struggle with a number of answers, including a defense of McCain's record on regulation issues. She also appeared to stumble when relating her views on the financial bailout, her foreign policy credentials, her preferred news sources of news, and a Supreme Court case she disagrees with.

"Man, no matter what you say you are gonna get clobbered," Palin told Fox about her heavily-scrutinized performance. "You choose to answer you are going to get clobbered on the answer. If you choose to pivot and try to go onto another subject that you believe Americans want to hear about, you get clobbered for that too."

This is funny. She should keep quiet on qualifications. the format of the debate didn't allow follow ups or clarifications. She recited the libes she had rehearsed very well. But that's it. Watch her next interview and you'll see. Unless it's on Fox

Palin talking about lack of qualifications due to comments?

    Really?

I don't think I need to say any more. Those who actually aren't starry eyed over her 'folksy charm' and see her for what she is will understand why.

I personally think that Gov. Palin is the last person who should be commenting on some ones readiness for the job they are up for, considering she can't even think or talk for herself. I have yet to hear one thing come out of her mouth that was not written by Karl or McCain. come on Sarah what do you really think ?

Sarah Palin is not stupid and that was emphasized by last night's debate. No ,Sarah is misinformed, manipulative, confused, uninsightful and way out of her league....but not stupid.
As George W will go down as America's worst president , her contemporaneous nomination for V.P. will be looked back upon as the silliest ever !

Simply put, Palin is a dunce. She makes Dan Quayle look like a brilliant intellect! Who is she kidding? The shrill sound of her mealy mouthed voice makes me cringe!

It's a sad day in America when many are celebrating the questionable abilities of a Vice Presidential candidate provides nothing of substance when it comes to national and international issues. Her astounding ignorance is a joke– and the rest of the world is laughing at us!

Sarah has lost her bloody mind. LMAO, on the fact she can only talk to Fox; what a joke Sarah, John and Fox are. If she has something to say to us, let her hold a press conference and she can talk all she wants, on anything she wants. Katie asked her easy questions and she could not answer one. Do us all a favor Sarah and take your lying butt back to Alaska where it belongs. I'm sure the moose population is growing and missing you ;)

Palin go back to Alaska.........Do you honestly think that there are people in this country that would support you in dealing with foreign policy? You couldn't, or wouldn't even answer half the questions you were given during the debate!!!!

You would be speaking with people who have little or no regard for women......your folksy, cutesy, gosh darn, wink wink, would definitely not help. They would just pat you on your head and make you believe that you've won. These people don't play games.....especially with people who don't know anything.

She disagrees with this decision and wants to go there with "Todd" and try again. 5 weeks on the national scene, and she is already trying to shove mcCain into the background and take over his campaign. The Republicans are falling apart. This woman is making a power grab right in front of thier eyes!

So let me get this straight: the fact that Obama came out and said basically the truth of what is going on in Afghanistan, as later confirmed by independent news sources, disqualifies him from the presidency in Palin's world.

What world is she living in?

And since when did government transparency become a bad word?

Plausible deniability! How long are we going to pretend that we are doing "god's work" and "liberating" people in Iraq and Afghanistan? We have killed more civilians there, due to bad intelligence and reckless behavior, than those who died under Taliban regime. This is not a holocaust of innocent lives, this is a killing field for our target practice. Enough!

7 years later, Laden & Co. are still roaming free, and these politicians and the dimwit Americans, are still screaming "Patriotism" and "Freedom".

No Gov. Palin! Protesting against the war doesn't make anyone disqualified or unpatriotic. That makes us more American than you are.

I wished they would have brought up the G.I. Bill that McCain didn't vote for.

Listen little Missy, Obama has done more for our troops than you would ever hope to do. You are a Partyline follower and should know what the facts are before opening your mouth.

    wink-wink, talk about sexism...

This is great...after scanning the blogs here, it becomes pretty obvious that 98% of the visitors to the CNN web site are die hard liberals. This explains why your question about who won the debate reflects a majority for Biden.
Most of these people sound like they should be locked up and put away for a while and allowed to dry out and get off whatever it is they are addicted to.
I observed the debate from the point of view of an independant and I thought Biden was a bit redundant and really full of himself and really misquoting the facts as they are. Palin was better than I expected and left me failry impressed and ended the program thinking this person could be President some day.
With that in mind, allow me to make a prediction.
McCain and Palin win and in four years Hillary runs against Palin.

Instead of shutting right up after being saved by the bell, this woman had the effrontery to open her puppet mouth and call Obama reckless on Fox news of all network..............I think its time for another interview with Katie Couric and its time to meet the press..............................
    McCain = Confusion
    Palin = Failure

  24. McCain's Barbie Collection

There is no other politician , man or woman, who would be congratulated for the way this woman spoke. If Obama spoke with the slang and avoided questions, the media would have said this man is truly unqualified. It is obvious that she is following what ever she is feed by her party. She don't even know John McCain's view on the simplest issues. Peolple are telling her what to do and say. This is why she is having problems and can't answer questions. When she has to answer questions as president, what will she do? Start winking her eye and avoiding questions. McCain should really be ashamed of himself for this bad decision.
