New Obama ad hits McCain again on health care, taxes

Sen. Obama's new ad targets Sen. McCain's proposal for changing the tax treatment of health care benefits.
Sen. Obama's new ad targets Sen. McCain's proposal for changing the tax treatment of health care benefits.

(CNN) – The Obama campaign is releasing a new television ad that targets Sen. John McCain’s tax proposals relating to health care benefits.

“One Word,” a 30-second spot, focuses on McCain’s proposal to tax health care benefits that are currently not taxed. The McCain proposal would tax “your health care for the first time ever,” the announcer says. “It’s a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle class tax increase in history,” the ad also says.

The new ad, which will begin to air nationally on Monday, was released on the same day that Sen. Barack Obama is set to give a speech focused on health care and taxes.

At a midday rally in Newport News, Virginia Saturday, Obama will call McCain’s health care tax proposal “an old Washington bait and switch” and “a shell game,” according to prepared remarks provided by the Obama campaign. “He gives you a tax credit with one hand – but raises your taxes with the other,” Obama will also say, referring to the fact that the tax credit included in McCain’s proposal will be paid to a taxpayer’s health insurance provider instead of to the taxpayer.

In a sign of how important issues economic issues like taxes and government spending have become to voters, the McCain campaign has already responded to Sen. Obama’s prepared remarks. Obama “is lying to voters,” McCain-Palin spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement released by the McCain campaign Saturday morning. “It’s a bald-faced lie because John McCain will improve the tax code so that middle class paychecks aren’t used to pay government bureaucrats but instead will pay for the access to health care Americans deserve,” Bounds added.

On Friday, both campaigns released new television ads that also spotlighted tax issues.

Script, "One Word," 30 seconds:

Obama voice-over: "I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message."

Announcer: "On health care, John McCain promises a tax credit.

But here’s what he won’t tell you:

McCain would impose a new tax on health benefits, taxing your health care for the first time ever.

It’s a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle-class tax increase in history.

You won’t find one word about it on his website.

But the McCain tax could cost your family thousands.

Can you afford it?"

You guys got it. This is all a scam to benefit the insurance companies.
It is time for bold and new ideas. McCain does not have any; Obama is the one who is going to make changes.

Sorry, Nightinglae, your RNC talking points and calls to hysteria will no longer work.
The people who have run the government for the last 8 years have ruined our economy, have begun to ruin the environment again after years of getting it cleaned up, and has mired us in two wars.

And, folks, keep your eyes open. Bush is trying to save his legacy by making a last push to find bin Laden. We are this close to a shooting match with Pakistan.

I have never heard Tucker Bounds say anthing that was true. Everyone involved with McCain can't tell the truth.

I want to see Palin and the Dude's tax returns for 10 years.
I want to see Palin and the Dude and her staff to tell the truth in the TrooperGate. Now the GOP is spending more money to appeal the ruling that she will have to testify. What happened to I have nothing to hide?
I want to see Palin and the Dude to stop dragging that baby around. They carry him like a sack of flour. Then handed him to the 5 year old as she walked down stairs with no socks or shoes.

McCain is plain nuts. Palin and the Dude or trailer trash.

The American People deserve more from our leaders.

I don't want McCain or Palin controlling my choices in life
Remember it was the Democrats who gave us Medicare, Social Security and Unemployment Benefits..............

McCain and Palin both deserve to be slammed.

If Palin gets the investigation against her in Troopergate thrown out, I hope teh national media, who has been completely silent on the issues, spalshes it across the front pages of every newpaper in the country.

For some who has been sceeching at the top of her lungs that she is innocent, she sure has pulled out every trick in teh book to get this case dismissed.

How anyone can sersiouly consider voting for this dimwitted biatch boggles the mind. One thing the republicans constantly count on is the ignorance and apathy of wome in America, especially white women. Seems like there right.

The "Straight Talk Express" has crashed. No one in the Republican Party will survive.

McCain has nothing that will help the American People and he has nothing new apart from the 90% he voted with George Bush. We can't stand anymore. Palin just needs to back to Alaska and please take the "Dude" with her. She will continue to need his help as pretends to be the Governor. I feel sorry for the people in Alaska

Obama will tax and spend America into oblivion and freeze energy independence with his pathetic tunnel vision plan!

Vote for Obama if you want a prevaricator in the Oval Office. He has obfuscated and schmoozed/manipulated his way through his whole campaign!

He has no moral center, and he does not have American values. Obama is a universalist with a socialist/fascist ideology who has also sold out to the radical environmentalist/union symbiosis!

What sad coices for voters. I like McCain and Palin, but I'm not convinced she ready to president , if needed. She might be a quick to learn though.
I like Biden he seems to care about Americans.Too bad he or Hillary isn't running for president. Obama has too much corruption in his small resume. Being a friend to a slum lord,in Chicago terriorists, racist priests,
belonging fradulent acorn and his dealings with fannie mae and freddie mac is a real turn off. I can't trust him.I think his only concerned with himself.

McCain will give s $5000 to buy our own insurance, after he makes us pay income tax on the healthcare benefits our employer gives us.

Keep your $5k you idiot. Those of us that can think for ourselves aren't buying your b.s!

With the economy and the deficit in such a sad state, no one is going to give a tax break or free health care. It ain't gonna happen. I cannot believe the gullible people who believe all the hyperbole. We will be lucky if we don't see a tax increase, no matter who wins. I like Sarah Palin, we need someone in the White House who knows how to shop for groceries by themselves. Someone who can relate. The other three are all Washington insiders

Universal health care will kill health care in America (this former Canuck speaks from experience) and so will Obama's outrageous tax/spend plan, and his pathetic, tunnel vision energy plan! :(

Obama will deliver oblivion to America! Is this the real plan?

Its hard to believe that people are still behind McCain as more comes out on his plans or lack thereof.

Rolling Stone has a really informative article that includes excerpts from McCain's memoirs and interviews with the people that know him. Look it up people and see what you're voting for.

Sarah Palin and why she is in this race for president. Think back to George Bush and how he began as governor of Texas. Keith is close but he still doesn't get it. His show was on to it when he was show Bush clips from 2000 and Sarah's debate clips from Thursday.

Tell America to listen up this is serious. Sarah Palin is the female Bush. She has been trained in GOPAC. She is the neocons next puppet to take control of the United States. SHe is no accident. She has been in Alaska for a reason. Some history, remember when the neocons take a baseball team owner and turned him into the governor of texas. This is the same that they are doing with Sarah Palin. That is why she works with Bush advisors. McCain is in great danger these neocons have a plan. I dont see him making much longer. He doesn't know what's happening to him. That is why she is so confident. It comes from the plans that the neocons have for her.

McCain has no idea what is going on. He acts like a poorly-programmed robot. Ask him to repeat what he just said (read from his cards), and he will not be able to do so. He does not care about your health plan, economy or anything. He is just a power-thirsty and blood-thirsty man who wants to become president at any price. ‘Country first?’ – give me a break! He and his drug-addict ex-mistress are and always will be first in his mind. Ask him to give at least 5 of his many homes to homeless and 5 of his many cars to drivers who lost everything as a result of Bush/McCain policies. He is a manipulative, stubborn, intellectually-challenged, and emotionally unstable man. He hates his opponents and will become a dictator if elected (God forbid).
