New Obama ad hits McCain again on health care, taxes

Sen. Obama's new ad targets Sen. McCain's proposal for changing the tax treatment of health care benefits.
Sen. Obama's new ad targets Sen. McCain's proposal for changing the tax treatment of health care benefits.

(CNN) – The Obama campaign is releasing a new television ad that targets Sen. John McCain’s tax proposals relating to health care benefits.

“One Word,” a 30-second spot, focuses on McCain’s proposal to tax health care benefits that are currently not taxed. The McCain proposal would tax “your health care for the first time ever,” the announcer says. “It’s a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle class tax increase in history,” the ad also says.

The new ad, which will begin to air nationally on Monday, was released on the same day that Sen. Barack Obama is set to give a speech focused on health care and taxes.

At a midday rally in Newport News, Virginia Saturday, Obama will call McCain’s health care tax proposal “an old Washington bait and switch” and “a shell game,” according to prepared remarks provided by the Obama campaign. “He gives you a tax credit with one hand – but raises your taxes with the other,” Obama will also say, referring to the fact that the tax credit included in McCain’s proposal will be paid to a taxpayer’s health insurance provider instead of to the taxpayer.

In a sign of how important issues economic issues like taxes and government spending have become to voters, the McCain campaign has already responded to Sen. Obama’s prepared remarks. Obama “is lying to voters,” McCain-Palin spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement released by the McCain campaign Saturday morning. “It’s a bald-faced lie because John McCain will improve the tax code so that middle class paychecks aren’t used to pay government bureaucrats but instead will pay for the access to health care Americans deserve,” Bounds added.

On Friday, both campaigns released new television ads that also spotlighted tax issues.

Script, "One Word," 30 seconds:

Obama voice-over: "I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message."

Announcer: "On health care, John McCain promises a tax credit.

But here’s what he won’t tell you:

McCain would impose a new tax on health benefits, taxing your health care for the first time ever.

It’s a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle-class tax increase in history.

You won’t find one word about it on his website.

But the McCain tax could cost your family thousands.

Can you afford it?"

This bailout is a thinly disguised "preemptive strike" against Obama's presidency. Am I the only American who believes that this crisis just magically appeared 6 weeks before a changing of the guard. It is orchestrated by Bush and his cronies in response to a perceived threat from the Democratic party.

I would like to know how McCain feels he can help people get insurance by giving a 2500 for single, 5000 for family to purchase insurance. He doesn't say how he proposes to get insurance companies to lower insurance premiums, not to mention many who will not qualify for insurance due to pre-existing conditions. Back to the drawing board McCain. You don't live in the real world. Being a millionaire, you couldn't begin to understand the problem the average citizen faces. You talk a good talk on your campaign stumps, then head off to one of your 8 homes, possibly in one of your 13 vehicles to practice your debate. You have never struggled to make ends meet in your life, so all of your words are just hot air adding to global warming!

Health care for all? Lower taxes? Cost-free education? Return automobile factories to Michigan? Forgiven mortgages? Three-dollar gasoline? Listen folks, it ain't gonna' happen! Why? Because, dear friends, the money's already spent, so don't believe Obama lies. He knows he's now got a perfect excuse for not following through on his promises, which is why he voted FOR

Employers continue to get a deduction...employees must have the cost reported as income(this is a new tax) His proposed $5000 tax credit will not offset the taxable income of $20,000 per family in California. Insurace cost will rise and the consumer will continue to be the ones that have to pay for it!!! I thought McCain wanted to reduce taxes!!!

Tucker...the only lies we have witnessed are those originating from the entire McCain/Palin campaign. You, McCain, Palin and all of the campaign should really be ashamed of yourselves. While you are fighting tough to keep Obama from being elected, you are constantly spewing lies to attain the goal of getting McCain elected. The good people of the United States of America will not stand for this!!! It is very obvious that you would rather continue lying to the people than put "Country First". BTW...you not only lie but you also steal from the ideas originating from Obama's campaign. There's only one thing left for McCain's camp...and that is cheat which will likely occur at the next debate. LIE, STEAL, CHEAT = McSame (as Bush) and McCheney.

McCain camp needs to stop lying. I know people will check facts and find out Obama is on their side. Southern states need to get behind Obama. Obama was not raised black. He just had a biological father that is black. He was raised white and stands on issues with white people. His family values are similar to most white people. Hopefully southerners gets to see this and vote for him.

I just loved it when Biden said during the VP debate on how McCain will make us pay for our health care. VERY SCARY, McCain is very tricky.

Obama was raised with a single mother, and his grandparents helped raised him too. He KNOWS the REAL WORLD, and UNDERSTANDS.

McCain has NO IDEA! He's so rich,..he's forgotten how many homes he owns!

Anything new to say? We've heard all this before. Obama desperately trying to tie McCain to Bush.

SORRY MCCAIN HAS AN ACTUAL TRACK RECORD. He did not support Bush on the important issues (and major screw-ups made by Bush and the Democrat congress), even CNN admits this.

AMERICANS ARE NOT AS DUMB AS THE DEMS THINK. COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW AND MEANINGFUL PLEASE.

McCain could care less about unfortunate Americans who don't have health care, take a good look at his wealth and greed; 7 houses and 13 cars, $500 shoes and a wife who can pay more in one outfit than most people can pay in a mortgage, children who can afford to publish books when ours can't afford college tuition. McCain lives a silver spoon life while many hard working people are living one step away from the soup line and tent city.

Obama's health care plan is so strong. McCain's is idiotic and uncapable of success without getting your own taxes raised in order for that money to be put to that effort. I completely agree with Obama.

McCain is tricky and LIES ! He's going to make us pay more with our healthcare with hidden costs. This man has NO IDEA what's it like to struggle with medical bills. He's very rich and honestly does not understand.

However, Obama DOES UNDERSTAND AND KNOWS how it's like to live humbly, with being raised by a single mother and grandparents.

    We need Obama,
He WILL BUILD us "The bridge to the future!"

Under McCain's health plan there is no guarantee that a person would be able to get health coverage if they have a pre-exisiting condition or a disability. Even those with insurance have claims too easily denied. This renders the tax credit absolutely moot. There are no safeguards in McCain's plan to protect Americans. I work with children with disabilities and it is awful trying to get them the care and services they need. It's a constant battle with insurance companies.

Never mind that most families can easily spend over $5000 a year on premiums.

I finally understood today exactly what Obama means when he says McCain doesn't get it. How can a person who admits to having 13 cars and probably has more, and admits to having 7 houses, but probably has more of those also, understand me who can only afford to rent? I can't afford to buy even one house. How many houses has he bought for his children?

He has nothing in common with me and many other Americans. Obama says he thinks he does care though. But the fact that he would not even look at Obama at the debate tells me that he doesn't even care either. It was an insulting, racist thing for McCain to do and it is one of the reasons I can't vote for him.

If anyone understands dirty politics, it would be Obama who learned from the under belly of Chicago-style politics. Wasn't it Obama who pulled some dirt to get himself elected by manipulating someone else's name off the ballot? McCain should run ads of that report to show there are two sides to Mr. Howdy Doody.

Not this time! America will not fall for the dirty tricks of Bush/Cheney/McCain in this election! And as for Palin? She is a pititful example of who McCain would surround himself with if he were to win the Presidency. She is pathetic. Knows little about world affairs and is in over her head. McCain did not even consult her on his plans to pull out of Michigan. She is not even in the loop yet she says the VP powers should be expanded under the Constitutional laws?

Sahah, honey, get some more e-mails going out to McCain's real staffers (to include Rick Davis of Fanny Mae/Mac claim and understand that you are being used to "energize the Republican Base" which really means to get America's racially motivated republicans to vote against what is best for America. Won't work because they even know McCain is just an angry old man who needs a nap!

I've always been told that any man that can't look you in the eye is a man you can't trust! McCain refusing to acknowledge O'bama at the first Presidential election was bazen and bazare and elitist! McCain is obviously still very angry at not winning in Vietnam (as per his 2003 interview written about in the October i 6th ssue of Newsweek) and this anger is continuing on into the Iraq occupation. Get over it McCain! Take a nap! Goodnight!

SARAH PALIN:…. she is a Barbie, they are NOT just BLONDE… their hair comes in all colors!

People just have to close their eyes and listen to the woman! She sounds like a Barbie doll with a speaking button. You push it, and she says a lot of different sentences. She is just spewing what she is told. Just like John McCain! They only know what they want, and like mavericks…. they are willing to go after it. They are wild cards, but way too predictable from my view point.

She and McSame will only do what benefits themselves and their rich cronies. If you think otherwise, you have not been living here for the past 8 years!
